[Q] Galaxy S to Boost Mobile - General Questions and Answers

I am trying to figure out if I Unlock the Galaxy S 4G will I simply be able to go on Boost.com to input the ESN to the upgrade information on that page and will it allow me to use it for Boost? My Boost account is current, but I wanna use the Galaxy S 4G instead of the Prevail that I have. Any suggestions???

Isn't the GS4G a GSM Phone? The Prevail is a CDMA running on Sprints Network. Mainly all Boost smart phones are CDMA, or IDEN. So no, I'm sorry. If you use a regional carrier for T-Mo *as the GS4G is a T-Mo Band phone*. Walmart's Family Mobile is epic. It's also a HSUPA+ and 4G Network.

No this a gsm phone.

Nope, this doesn't support CDMA technology, which is what Verizon and Sprint use. Unlocked, it will support GSM (SIM cards) like AT&T and T-mobile as well as foreign GSM providers. There are a couple of phones that do both, but to my knowledge AT&T has never had one.

No. No GSM phone can operate on Verizon's CDMA2000 network. Some of Verizon's phones are dual-mode and can accept a GSM SIM, but it doesn't go the other way around.
The Infuse can operate on T-Mobile's network, but only at EDGE speeds - TMo uses different bands for 3G than AT&T does.

[Q] Carrier Trade

I was wondering if you guys could help me understand something as I don't know much about cellular carriers. I currently own a Lumia 920 on att and was looking to trade it for a galaxy s3. I found someone who will trade with me, but he is on Verizon and the phone is with Verizon. I applied on att for an unlock code so that he would be able to use it, but I'm not sure how the whole GSM vs cdma works. What would I have to do to make this swap work if that's even possible?
thanks in advance.
It is cdma vs gsm networks. The gs3 on Verizon can work on gsm networks but was not designed to be utilized solely on a gsm network. I would stick with s phone from your current provider

Hello everyone,
I just picked up a sidekick 4g I would like to use this phone on Verizon's 4g CDMA network, what would it take to switch this phone to accept CDMA?

Unless I'm misinformed, this is not possible at all. Sidekick 4G is a GSM phone, which will only allow it to work on other GSM carriers. Unfortunately, Verizon is not one of them. Sorry.

You're correct. The best carrier to use the Sidekick on in the US is T-Mobile.
I got a SIM unlock code from T-Mobile, and now I can use it on any GSM network worldwide. There are also other ways of unlocking it. But it definitely does not work on CDMA. Phonearena.com is your friend: http://www.phonearena.com/phones/T-Mobile-Sidekick-4G_id5158. Always check the specs before you buy a phone to make sure it will work with your carrier. Even if a phone will work on CDMA, that doesn't mean it will work on Verizon. For example, the Nexus 5 has CDMA but will work only on Sprint-based networks (in addition to GSM), not Verizon.
no its just GSM..

[Q] Why can't I use my Verizon device with Ting?

Hi,
I currently have an unlocked, out-of-contract Verizon Galaxy Nexus, and I'm considering switching to Ting, a MVNO that uses Sprint's network. However, Ting says this isn't supported, and I was hoping someone here could help me understand why.
As I understand it, both Sprint and Verizon use CDMA, so I already have the hardware I need to communicate with Sprint's network. However, the ESN on my phone is not currently whitelisted on the Sprint network, therefore it won't work.
Ting has a bring your own device program. If your phone is on their whitelist, and it is Sprint branded, you can use it with their network. So I guess what I'm struggling to understand is why Sprint branded phones will work, but non-Sprint branded phones will not.
Is the fundamental issue simply here that Sprint refuses to whitelist my ESN because it is a Verizon phone? Or is there a technical reason why I can't use my Verizon Galaxy Nexus with Sprint? Is there anything I can do get my existing phone to work with Ting?
Thanks,
John
there's pseudo-technical reason, and it boils down to the big V is a stupid way, the reason is that Verizon uses a weird (read: f***ed up) way of authenticating devices on their "CDMA" network, Verizon uses WCDMA/CDMA2000 style authentication even for the 4g towers, and the hybrid AAA/HA keys they use were developed by them for use only on their network, this is why, primarily, that sprint phones are incompatible on verizon and vis-versa (Also, anecdotaly why Verizon 4G phones are a pain to put on Verizon MVNOs though with the GNex it is possible, I have mine on page plus using Sprint's CDMA radio firmware, and YES everything, even 3G data works fine, and no, no ESN swap was needed). Basically it's a ploy to keep Verizon phones, well, on Verizon..

[Q] Feasability of Galaxy Note 3 on Boost Mobile

In light of the new "Unlocking Consumer Choice and Wireless Competition Act", why is it so hard to bring a Sprint Galaxy Note 3 to Boost Mobile? My Touch Pro2 came from Sprint, and I didn't have all of these problems. With the Galaxy Note 3 there is all of this talk of flashing, getting SMS/MMS to work, and 3G to work.
Question:
When you finish, will it have Boost Mobile LTE as on Sprint? When you do get it set up, and you reset the phone to factory because of a bad app install, now what?
Thoughts:
What I don't understand is why using a Note 3 with Boost Mobile should be any harder than using one of the S3s that Boost sells. Ting has BYOD and also uses the Sprint network. I've been with Sprint or Boost since the 90s. They phase out IDEN, then they go with Wi-Max? Now Sprint's new Spark network is using an LTE variant (TD-LTE), that doesn't work with any other U.S. carrier's phones, and works at 1/2 the speed? Sprint/Boost introduces new tri-band phones that cannot multitask, as an upgrade to earlier phones that can? The won't support phones even when they came off their own network?
