Swype Beta Version 3.26 Released - EVO 4G Themes and Apps

For anyone who uses the Swype Beta, Swype has released beta version 3.26. The biggest and most appreciated change in this version is "in app upgrading" meaning you don't have to download the installer, go through the web page, log on to Beta Swype etc. to get updates; they now come through the app itself.
The original install routine holds true with this version i.e. uninstall Swype first through Ti Backup or your usual method, use a root explorer and delete the /system/lib/libSwypeCore.so after mounting as read/write. Go to beta.swype.com and log in; download the installer etc. According the Swype, this will be the last time you have to do this.
FYI, the aforementioned /system/lib/libSwypeCore.so file is no longer there after installing the newest beta. Maybe someone with who is better at this can advise if complete uninstall is necessary in the future.

Swype problem after GB install

Need some help...
I installed the leaked GB update over top of Fission 2.6.1. Everything works fine now except for Swype. When I try to use it, it says "the swype package you installed is configured for another device and will operate with limited functionality."
I went to the swype site to have the beta files resent to me. I tried to uninstall both the app and the installer. The installer I can uninstall but the app does not have 'uninstall' as an option.
I then try to go into Astro root explorer to either delete or rename the libswypecore file but can do neither.
Anyone have any suggestions on how I can get swype to work? Thanks.
You can't do anything with those because you don't have root access. A lot of people are having problems with Swype and GB. Just give it some time, this is still a leaked version and as of now I believe there is no way to root that GB file. I'm sure there will be a way rolling really soon, along with the actually GB update for our phones.
well root has been found now so figure a day or to for swype to be fixed
The installed version of swype in the GB rom is no good, if you have beta access for swype then the easiest way to fix is to grab root explorer, rename or delete the swype apk, and then download the swype installer and install a different version. I've got it working again on my D2 running GB
Thanks that worked great. I renamed the.apk

Still can't get it to work. The version of Swype that I have came with the Fission ROM that was on my phone. I tried using Super Manager to delete that libswypecore file but can't. The file won't delete. As a result, I can't download a beta that I'm registered for.
Any ideas?
Try this, I just got it to work last night. Go to beta.swype.com, I'm pretty sure their beta registration is still open. Sign up for registration, but before you do all that go to root explorer and change the name of swype.apk (I changed to swype.apkk). The continue on beta.swype.com, register for the beta version and they will send you an email, and follow instructions to install.

Is 'root explorer' the only app that will allow me to change the name? I tried using 'super manager' and 'astro' and neither worked in changing the name.
Got it to work. The mistake I made was not setting up root access within Super Manager.
Thanks for your help.
I think there are more apps, but root explorer is the most known. I tried this method and everything worked but when I restarted my phone I started getting force closes and re downloaded it all and it works fine again.

Swype Beta 3.0 on EVO... any success?

Hi all,
As the title implies, I just tried updating to the newest version and keep getting an error telling me that it's running in limited mode (allows key press) but when I swype, NOTHING!
The funny thing is when i try to generate the license I follow the steps:
1) click disable swype (it then throws you to the keyboard selection screen where i choose android keyboard)
2) uncheck swype (I don't even see this option on the keyboard selection screen, I'm on MIUI
3) hit generate license
For the previous build... the hack/fix/trick was to start from a swpye free device, install the installer, then install swype... After doing this, you don't go back into the installer to generate the license, you'd go backup the swype apk using a backup tool, then uninstall swype... then restore the backup (then long press home button) and click on swype installer which would register and generate ok.
Any Thoughts?
Worked perfect for me. As a previously registered member, all I did was log in. Dl the installer. Installed the swype. Used it. Realized why i deleted it to begin with. Uninstalled. Looks better, yes...would rather type the Damn thing out than have to correct over and over again little errors that my HTC kingdom keyboard fixes. Good luck w your install tho
Also mine generated its own license after i completed the install.
weird... are you on MIUI?
I'm at a loss as to why it won't work.
I'm trying some suggestions found here:
http://forum.swype.com/showthread.php?3719-Install-Swype-on-MIUI-without-Titanium-Backup!
i finally got my hands on a 3.0 apk. It will not install. The forums say it won't install over a "system" version. So now i think i have to figure out how to remove the installed version.

One of the new features of 3.0 was tap correction, so it can do the same things the stock keyboard can as well.

It sounds like you've got the preloaded version installed.
Try using root explorer to uninstall it.

Well isn't that amazing!!
Finally got this working on MIUI.
I followed the steps from the 4th post on http://forum.swype.com/showthread.php?3719-Install-Swype-on-MIUI-without-Titanium-Backup
"Sorry, but for me it does not work.
This guide has now works for me.
Download installer
Download and install swype
At the enable step leave the installer and select swype as the input device
Reboot your phone
After Reboot, open the swype installer again
Select "Select Android keyboard" and change input back to android keyboard
Choose disable swype, go to applications and uninstall swype but NOT THE INSTALLER
Go back to the installer and generate license
This should put you through the download process again so just follow it and re-install swype
Once re-installed it should generate the license, but it still won't work
Reboot your phone again and all should work, enjoy!

However, thank you for your help! "

This is exactly what i had to do. I found the existing swype apk, deleted it, restarted the phone and was able to install the new version.
All i have to say so far is awesome! Typing in "normal" mode doesn't seem to lag or be as clumsy as before. Plus(my favorite feature so far) it now asks if you would like to add a word to the dictionary instead of just adding whatever i happened to be typing at the time on it's own. MUCH more control over what words are included. I'm still playing around with it, but so far i'm impressed.
Does miui comes work swype already? If it does you will need to get a file explorer...then go to system/app and look for swype....when you find swype deleted and then reboot your phone...when the phone is on instal swype installer and swype and just follow the instruction to regenerate the license....it work for me....

There is also a library file to delete. in system/lib/libswype.so or something like that. I had to delete that file before it would work for me.
Its more efficient to delete the swype.apk from system/app if you need a file explorer let me know our you can go to the market and download one

I'd also say just titanium backup to remove and then install the new apk.
Worked for me at least, and man is this worlds better than 2.5xxx
all thats needed to install the new beta is uninstall the official apk and lib.
on miui just install then restart the phone. the licence will generate itself. im loving the new beta, but i must admit im a bit jealous if the themeing honeycomb users got for the honeycomb version of swype 3.0.
No issues here. Just uninstalled Swype and went to beta.swype.com to download the new one.

Swype Beta 3

Does the download from their official website expire?
I downloaded and installed it last night, was working great. This morning it would not work and gets a blue outline when I Swype. Has it expired? Should I try reinstalling it?
Any help appreciated.
(Running Continuum V6)
i had the same problem. I had to reinstall it. I dont think it expires unless swype releases another update - someone can correct me if I'm wrong, here.
Did you change anything from when you installed it to when it wouldn't work? Like your build.prop? Swype doesn't like that.
Reinstalling or reverting any changes would probably fix it.
Yes I've reinstalled and all is well again. I didn't change a thing so I keep checking to see if it's still working, heh. Thanks
1) Uninstall Swype Installer
2) Delete /system/app/Swype.apk (I use Root Explorer, but you can use adb, TiBu, etc... your choice)
3) Delete /system/lib/libSwy*
4) Reboot into recovery, wipe Dalvik Cache
5) Install the beta again.
Mine was having the same issue and I followed these steps. Beta 3.0 installed and is now working.
did you license it through the swype installer
This may be a miui thing but to get swype beta working here are my steps.
Swype not installed
Get installer apk from web site
Install full version
Let the installation complete up to the screen where finish is an option
Do not select anything
Power off, then on. When powered on swype is installed and working

I also had to reinstall it.
the EVO_SWYPE APK on Google./xda. Its permanant and works. That is if nothing above works for ya.

[Q] How do I uninstall Swype on Serendipity?

Swype quit working and after a reboot it says a newer version is a available and I need to update. However, I cannot uninstall the old version. Going to Applications -> Manage Applications -> Swype yields no "Uninstall" button (I guess because it is included in the ROM).
What do I do? I tried just installing the new beta and I still have the same issue. Swype doesn't work and keyboard is surrounded by a blue box.
I'm having the same problem.... I can't figure it out.
Try deleting the .apk on system files? Using root explorer or other methods

Tried this and installed the new Beta. Now it just keeps crashing.
Should I do something besides just deleting the apk?
EDIT:
Found the answer... Follow The Jack of Clubs post and it worked:

No matter what I try I can't install the new Swype. The one in the Serindipity 7 ROM doesn't work.
I have uninstalled it, then I used root explorer to delete anything that says SWYPE, then I downloaded the new beta SWYPE INSTALLER and run that. It downloads SWYPE BETA then when I install it I get a message that simply says "can't install."
Yes, I created an account and successfully activated it.
I've gone through the process multiple times. Any suggestions? The one suggested in this thread doesn't work.
not trying to be funny, but try FlexT9. Awesome keyboard with multiple ways to input, including swiping, writing and voice. Haven't looked back after using this and it is the first thing I install on my devices.

Go to the system/lib folder and delete the libSwypeCore file(will need root explorer). Reboot. Now try to install swype again.
I'm not a developer but I try to play one on XDA. Seriously I'm not a developer. DlevROM Yo!
You could try using Go keyboard. It is a regular keyboard, free, and supports swype too.

Swype Beta on ICS Leak

Has anyone been able to install the Swype Beta with Android 4.0 support on the ICS leak? I installed the installer and was able to get it to work the first few times. It wouldn't install Swype because Swype was already on the system (although it didn't work), so I used TB to uninstall Swype. Then the Swype Installer was able to install Swype, but it always stalled on licensing the copy of Swype. Now the installer won't even start, and Swype is still not installed.
Anyone been able to get it to work?
Swipe is working fine for me on ICS. I'd suggest doing a factory restore and see if it fixes it for you. Don't see why you would want Swype beta when Swype is working.

When swype is installed within the OS you have to use root explorer or equivalent to remove the swype apps (make sure swype isn't the default keyboard at the time). In the old swype there were two files but they changed their file structure with their last major upgrade. Might need to search for any files containing "swype" to find them.
After they are all removed you should reboot and then install swype beta - this has worked for me with previous android OS versions/phones but I just got my SGS II so I'm not sure about this phone.
In terms of the next question in the thread - the betas for swype have consistently been much better than the pre-installed OS versions so I have found it very useful to be able to use the latest beta versions. It truly is a work in progress.
try one of these:
http://jbthemes.com/djdarkknight/daswypethemes/
An easy way:
- disable swype and use another keyboard
- go to titanium backup and uninstall swype (but keep swype installer)
- use swype installer to download the new swype beta
- activate swype as default keyboard
and Voila!
i have the swype beta and it works for me, the problem i have is with the correction function and the browser
