yea GOt two more project in line if no one Beats me to it but then again ill still release lol
giving this ROM a try, looks promising
it is great, i cant wait to see where else you take this rom
Checkin' in to the awesomeness.
Lovin' the venom.
Nice to get a slimmed down tricked out ROM to play with.
Much thanks man, really appreciative of the work you've put into this.
Edit to add:
Besides not having an internet browser, everything works and is in good shape. Not having a browser means Google Search doesn't search the 'net, but as soon as you install one it fixes it.
Definitely slimmed down...much, much nicer then stock. Sure beats the hell out of going through and deleting all that crap by hand.
Camera app works completely, just in case anyone was worried or was gonna go ahead and ask that question down the thread.
What Sinfamy said below about the T-Mobile name on the lockscreen is the only thing visually amiss, and the missing browser out-of-the box (which you aleady are handling) are the only two things I can see out of place.
Market works, and another browser can be gotten from there for the time being.
Stable, no problems flashing, runs great.
Makes for a great springboard to start from, and can't wait for the eventual kernel release and such to follow.
I found my ROM, lets me keep the stock camera app (which I like and have gotten used to), kills the Tmo/HTC bloat for the most part, and now i'll get much better update support then staying with the stock ROM.
Ck23, you did a good job with this and I don't really see the need to go play with any other ROMs now, this is basically what I want.
Staying tuned in for the Kernel, and the tweaks/updates that'll be following.
Gonna buy you some kool-aid, you earned it.
Looks great, can you align the carrier "T-Mobile" to the left or something so it doesn't overlap wit the notification bar?
Also you took out the official internet app can you put it back

If it's like EVERY OTHER ROM it's:
1. Download ROM
2. Reboot into Recovery
3. Perform Master Reset (wipe data/cache/system)
4. Wipe Dalvik cache under advanced
5. Choose install zip from sdcard
6. Find file and click ok
7. Let ROM installer script do its work
8. Reboot
9. Upon first boot it will take some time. Give it time for everything to get settled before you start using the phone too heavily.
Hopefully this helps. If CK wants to add anything to this, please do!
worked great thanks

Worked on my 3rd try. I restored my original backup and followed the instructions listed above. this ROM is great. you rule CK23!
Any pics of the notification bar? Does "Tmobile" and recent apps still take up prime real estate, or is it cleaned up and minimal?

ok cool stuff
Currently on AOKP, because... I dunno I wanted to see what r4ins was working with and it's a bit smoother than Paranoid. I have a blanket DPI of 180 with a market that fixes DPI incompatibility so no need to switch back yet.
However I do love Paranoid (great job gs2user) so I remember my settings.
Tablet UI (small) although to be honest the phone styled notification center is better
Status bar 185
Lockscreen 180
Default apps to 185
Calendar and email look the best in Tablet mode. I changed settings back to phone UI.

I thought I'd add my own configuration preferences to this thread. I love this ROM. I've tried going back to other ROMS here and there but everything just seems prehistoric to me with their setups. The fact that this ROM gives you the ability to use the phone like a tablet is awesome. The user interface is perfect for my particular needs / wants. Not to mention the ROM is quick and smooth. Here are some screenshots to illustrate what my setup looks like and what settings I used to get it. Enjoy.

So here's the deal,
I always loved the look and feel of the sidekick 4G but I never bought one when it came out, a few months back I found an
amazing deal on a perfect condition one so I bought it right quick only to find we have very little development here.
Well Im hoping to change this as i have time, with school, work, getting married in two months, house projects,
and other development projects i have had no opportunity to sit down and really play with this phone to see if
I could even build something from source on it.
Yesterday i saw the last ROM maintainer RicAndroid (pay him respect) here almost quit due to lack of respect for all his hard work
and having little more to play with, I decided I cant let this happen. So last night I whipped together a quick Aroma Package
that can be used with any ROM here, it will flash as is now and install a select few things to your phone no matter the
ROM you are currently running.
If people desire i can make a very expansive package that could hold many modifications to your phone, but for now,
as i have little time, I hope the few developers here can take this package and apply it to the best and most slim base ROM
and make their own fun to flash fully customizable ROM.
I Will Continue Making Bigger and Better Packages Only If people Request That I Do
Click to collapse
So for now, I hope whatever devs, maintainers, cooks, whathaveyou, here will take this and make it their own
you do not need my permission, i do not require any credit in your ROM, i just hope those who still maintain ROMs here will continue
and those on the fence about learning how will take this opportunity as an easy start!
As Always, Happy Flashing!
Changelog and Download
*Please feel free to request anything specific you would like added to the next release, I wont not promise when, but it seems people will use this, so I'll make a few updates. But I would Like input on what YOU want
As always I encourage developers and the like to take this package and make it their own. Find a Rom, strip it naked, ad features to Aroma, and release to the public! Until someone moves this phone past froyo this will be the next best thing I hope! And I'm NOT promoting simple zip kanging here, be sure to ask the developer to use their ROM and give credit where do! (i dont need credit if you use these packages at all but the developers do!)

First release
Can you please describe what it does?
It just adds a bunch of APKs, including 2 launchers ADW/Zeam and then some theme stuff?
yeah of course, as of right now this is just proof of concept, I dont have the installer add much. so what you do is download, put on sd, boot to recovery, and flash it like a ROM
when you do, recovery disappears and Aroma pops up, here it will go through a bunch of options. right now this package has a couple launchers to pick from, a couple music players, and a few boot animations (probably not optimized for this phone)
it is possible to add most anything, such as in another phone i have it flashing different systemUI.apks that will modify the placement of the clock and the color, also making one that flashes splash screens (the one when you first boot phone, here its says sidekick or whatever) and this can be changed to any image.
really I dont think ill make a large package for this phone, unless a bunch of people request i do so. but my purpose is to have developers add it to their rom (a slimed to nothing rom) and have just about every app service whaterer be flashed as users choice. can also choose kernel, have it wipe phone for you, really anything that can be flashed in recovery can be flashed here
Noob explanation. Aroma installers are GUI for installing ROMs. The allow you to pick and choose what you want installed rather than forcing you to use the ROM as is then taking out what you don't want. All with a pretty user friendly interface. We have them for some things on the amaze
Sent from my HTC Amaze 4G running CyanogenMod 10.1
yes exactly, i often have long winded answers to simple questions
and for those that arent familiar dont think what i did above above is as good as it gets, really its just something i slapped together in 20mis taking parts from other aroma installers i made for other devices and changing things to work here.
and like i said i hope others will take this on and make it their own, id be happy to build some polished up ones too if everyone wants it, just dont want to spend time on anything that just will go to waste
Awesome...thanks, man! I lost my temper a while back, yeah...but I'm sticking around. This is great to see some activity here again!
Sent from my SGH-T839 using xda premium
Great I'm glad to here you're sticking around! I hope this gives you more to play with as you've done great work with ROMs thus far, this should just add one more element!
And now you won't have people in your threads asking to remove this or add that, you just give them a great stripped down base and let them choose!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Thank you and RicAndroid for helping to keep this device going!
Wow, never thought that aroma installer would be applied with the sidekick
Wanted to make a Aroma Package myself, but the lack of time and knowledge didn't made it possible
Demkantor, I'm definitely interested in getting a fully Aroma package for the Sidekick
I would be brilliant because of all the hard work of all the devs themers, that have been there for the sidekick, would be used in your 'own personal' Rom
What Aroma Installer does : you install a Rom by choosing yourself the kernel, launcher, apps, bloatware, everything by choosing out of a list. Of course depends of what is included in the package!
edit : for all the devs out there, thank you for helping to keep the Sidekick alive.

You should add customizations like the status bar stuff like green wifi signal usb ect
The lockscreen mods ? But by them selfs so it don't take over a tab in settings
Full fonts that have all the characters
Font sizes? (For this I have seen font size (for root users) works but its paid for an beta)
hummm the background of notification center?
Animations like opening a app it will flip or slide in or something
These are just ideas that I could think of at the moment
Sent from my SGH-T839 using xda app-developers app
Those are great ideas but by in large they would need to be ROM dependent as they would be editing the systemui.apk, like status_bar.xml files and the like
But there are some things of this sort that could be done in any ROM, no matter the base so I'll see what I can come up with.
Maybe when I get some more time I'll build a ROM with these types of things implemented so for now hopefully ricandroid or someone working on ROMs may take this up....
Anyway I'll post another package shortly, don't have time to add in everything I would like to but that just means I'll have to keep going!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
ok new aroma! check second post, this is a much larger package (over twice the size of the last) so i dint get a change to test everything, if anyone is will to run a few tests i would be very appreciative
as always, Happy Flashing!
This guide assumes you already know how to use apktool and use latest 1.52 version. If you don`t, there are plenty of guides already on XDA.
Latest Sense 5 com.htc.resources.apk and apktool are not great friends. Actually there is a long history of compile issues with this file, but also I managed to fix it usually in the past. I stumbled about some theme threads, who were correctly complaining, that they can`t fully finish their work, since many essentially stuff in HTC`s framework can`t be themed, since com.htc.resources.apk can`t be compiled and as a result many color themes remain incomplete.
So I had a quick look and here is the workaround, which is tested and works.
For those having other apktool issues, it also might pay off looking in my One S apktool issues thread, maybe you will find some ideas to solve other problems.

brut for his awesome apktool
hdneuling for being a great tester and guy
1. First thing you will recognize, when decompiling the "nice" way, apktool will miserably fail. So let`s be the bad guy and brute force decompile
2. Decompile com.htc.resources apk with the following:
PHP:
java -jar apktool.jar d --keep-broken-res com.htc.resources.apk com.htc.resources-decoded
This ignores all errors and decompiles the apk
3. Since the real issues here in reality are only very minor dimens decompile problems, you can now simply delete all unneeded folders with an ERR at the end.
4. Make all necessary edits
5. Now compile the apk as usual, there are different ways to do it - I compile with
PHP:
java -jar apktool.jar b com.htc.resources-decoded
6. Flash and enjoy your work
Good job
Had to look into it, Helmut was desperate
Great Job, and o.k., feeling guilty now :silly:

One thing we noticed when putting together our tranquility rom was that any com.htc.resources, sense 4 and after, was that even when it could be decompiled it was better to hex edit. It caused issues with the rom. The dialer and battery life were affected. There were other performance issues also.

First off, Nice find!! So far the only ill effect I'm noticing is the fonts in settings/display, gestures and buttons doesn't function properly. it changes the font size in certain areas but not system wide like it should. this is the same error we had before, and maybe its because im using the port rom for Evo LTE. I'm looking into it but we couldn't find a resolve for this before.

I'm looking into it but we couldn't find a resolve for this before.

Just to confirm, this is also the case on the One ROMs themselves as well, not just limited to ports.
To see it clearly, just go into Settings/Display, Gestures and Buttons, and try flicking between small and extra large fonts. When you go back out into the main Settings menu, the font size doesn't change as expected.
Did try to get around this by compiling the images, and dragging them into the stock resources apk. If you do this without renaming some of the 9.pngs back into r.9.pngs, you get SysUI FC, and a messed up lockscreen. With those corrections made, everything boots fine, but Dialer FCs and several Settings menu options also FC.
Next thing to try is using villaintheme to insert the altered pngs directly on-device....
Edit: yup, using villaintheme seems to give the best result. No app FCs and no text resizing issue. Just means we still need to hex edit to change any of the values xmls.
At least the recompile workaround gives us a way to easily test resource edits. Thanks again for the heads up!

no problem, Ive dug in settings and com.htc.resources and see no link in the two. Not arrays, dimens, nothing. all the arrays and sizes for the different fonts are in settings so i dont understand why that would be affected. If i find afix/workaraound ill post it here.
Noticed the fontsize-problem before de/compiling com.htc.resources.apk too, dont know if it works on Stock because i never booted Stock ^^
Besides this, my edited com.htc.resources.apks are still working without problems, even with ROMs based on 1.29.401.1/2
LG, Helmut
This will no doubt come in handy. Thanks

Looks good--found 2 "bugs" so far...
Looks & works very good!!!!
I've found a bug so far...
Camera app is not showing preview in "normal" camera--preview works in panorama. (what do you need to track?)
Did the Winampdelete/reinstall---thanks!!!
Other than that it looks like a DD to me......
Once i am tired of MIUI this will be my next ROM to try
But could take a while^^
Looking foreward to test it though

I couldn't figure out what in the world was up with the camera. The developer said it worked great on the Supersonic except for the FFC. The CM9.1 I used as a base has an impeccable camera as well as 1080p! That's why I picked out a couple that have used before as add-ons to stand in until I MIGHT come up with something.
Other than that....I'm loving it myself! I'm glad you are too. Wait till she settles in...it looks like it's going to be sweet on battery usage too.:good:
As far as tracking errors go anything else will probably be related to the port. In that case it's probably going to be beyond my ameturish control. LOL

Josh's MIUI v.4 is lookin' good isn't it!? I don't blame you a bit either. I stayed on it for about 3 days myself & anyone that knows me knows that's a loooong time for me on a ROM! LMAO Now I have a good nandroid though and I revisit them all as time goes by.

Is this rom really that nice about to flash and run for couple days. See what this chatter is about. Weekend always got something nice.

Interesting....I tried a Gstore 3rd party camera app ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rubberbigpepper.lgCamera ) & it did the same thing...then pulled the camera.apk from the CM10.1 that is my DD ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2187130 )...it also did it too
I'm going to think about this one---I really want to like it, but the camera is a deal-breaker for me....back to CM 10.1 Official.....
I'm thinking that it's something in the kernel--3 different camera apps without preview....Hmmmmm....
As for really nice----YES!!!! I ran it for a couple of hours & could only find the camera bug....

I understand how it goes man. BUT....the cameras I put in there: Camera MX & Night Camera were working like gangbusters. At least on mine. With the DoubleShot I KNOW the camera is a huge deal but those are filling in nicely for me.
It's just WAY too powerful a ROM not to put it out there just because the camera we're used to seems to be borked at the time. If you come back to it, try those. Like I said though....I know how it goes.

If you can just get used to the new camera we're not used to seeing, you'll LOVE it. The video even has an option to turn on the LED for night shooting.
That's why I put several out there though. Variety is what makes the world go around.

In my case, the main camera gives me a brief peek at the "viewfinder" image then puts up a black rectangle that covers the entire image. You can clearly see the rectangle's outline a fraction of a second before it covers all the preview area.
The other camera shortcuts just FC, or give me a combo settings screen THEN FCs when camera is chosen.
The only other negative comment I have is that I miss the JB navigation bar. One of our phones has a glitchy BACK button, and Nav Bar compensates for that. (*_-)
Other than that, everything I noticed is good--I'm blown away by this ROM! It's quick, responsive, and smooth.
Thanks, Weekends!
BTW: clean install, several minutes "resting" after flash.

Yeah....in my haste I overlooked carrying some necessary libraries over with those camera apps. You should be able to just go into the market & uninstall/reinstall them and be good to go. OR just use Root Cleaner included in the ROM & then do the Market reinstall. You can also uninstall the main Camera with Root Cleaner. My bad. The Nav Bar just wasn't available in this one & I haven't yet learned how to get it in there. Sorry Jesterfell.

You simply need to edit your build.prop and add the line qemu.hw.mainkeys=0. You can use any good editor in Android to do that, or Build.prop Editor.

This is supposed to provide a basic nav bar. It probably does not allow customizing or re-sizing.
I've also seen something like it in one of the MT4GS ROM threads. Wish I could find THAT one now.
I will be trying it, but probably not for a few days. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Don't sweat the cameras. Un-installing & re-installing is not such a big deal.

Well......I HAVE!!! And IT WORKS Jesterfell.....IT WORKS! What a FIND BRO! What I'm going to do for you and anyone else that wants it is post it up in the OP with Instructions. I WISH I had found this when I looked but I just didn't. WAY TO GO!!
Edit: Oh, BTW, it DOES add it into "Settings/System" with all the editing functions there. I just didn't put it thru it's paces is all.
:highfive:
