[Q] Start an app (Pandora) on bluetooth connect event - Verizon Droid Charge

First off, I have done some google searches and searches on the forum for this question but all I could really find was people having issues with bluetooth and Pandora.
My question: Is there any way to open an app, namely Pandora, on a bluetooth connect event? I know that Pandora, if already open and playing, will pause for phone calls and when the bluetooth connection is lost. Headphones being plugged in can trigger the music player to open. So there must be a way to see the bluetooth connection event and start Pandora. Or maybe it already does this and I just havent figured it out?
TIA

Tasker can do it. You have to be willing to pay for the app, and you have to be willing to invest some time learning how to use it well, but it's the gold standard in Android automation. There is a one week trial available on their website if you want a try before you buy.

Sirius XM app

yep. and the app use is an extra fee on top of the monthly charge...
you culd always have them send you the app...

sweet.. thanks for the heads up on this.. for some reason I didn't think there was an app.. make good use of my subscription.
Works 50% of the time, but when it does it's fantastic. Other 50% of the time it says Service is Down.
I love Sirius service, but what a ****ty app. First, the sound quality goes in and out, next it has an Inactivity timeout of something like 2 hours...so if your like me and you sit there listening at work you have to click the 'restart' button 3-4 times in a day. I know why they do it with Internet Users, but there needs to be a better (longer) timeout for the App. THE WORST part is that if you get a call while it's running, it won't stop...it plays throughout your call. A very poor 1.0 release. Be warned, I bought a Stiletto2 thinking it would be a great Sirius device (and it is for the most part), but they NEVER update the software or add features. I doubt we will ever see a 1.1 version of the Sirius App....I love the concept of Sirius, but they really don't give a **** about their customers.
couple improvements I'm hoping for is a widget with the app. Also dvr functions pause/rewind/ff. Also recording would be great... they are allowing timeshifting with the Skydock now also caching with the Slacker app.. so maybe..
All good ones. I hope they beef up the buffer a little otherwise loving it

Only if you are not signed up for internet listening. If you are solely an internet subscriber, it doesn't.
If you want howard stern, use droid live or xiialive
Thanks for the link. Anyone else have a problem with no icon or anything being created for this app? To open it I had to go into Astro and launch it from there..couldn't find it in the app drawer or if you try to add an icon to the home screen there's no option for it.

[Q] Auto silent when connected to college's WIFI?

Hi, I've been tying to search for an app maybe you can help me.
I'm looking for an app that I can configure that when I connect to specific wifi (probably school or college or even piano teacher [ they all got wifi, it's so common in these days..]) so it will automatically makes my phone on silent or vibrate...
And when log out will return to normal.
It can save the imberesting ringing mobile at class and also can not be forgotten at home at room hidden behind couch or something at silent because I forgot to return it back from study and so I wont hear any calls..
You probably know what I'm talking about from life and maybe also wondering where is the guineas that will invent that app already..
So if you know any app that can do this, please tell me
Or if you are an app-Creator, here's an idea...
Thanks,
Yarden.

Try tasker
Enviado desde mi MB860 usando Tapatalk
Yes, Tasker or AutomateIt should do what you want.
i will 3rd the vote for tasker. I use it and its a great app
+1 tasker
I have this exact profile for my classes
Llama https://market.android.com/details?id=com.kebab.Llama&feature=search_result does this sort of thing extremely well and has the significant virtue of being free. It's well-supported and quite functional, and (for me at least) much easier to set up than Tasker.

Car App/Hands Free

What apps do you guys use for using your Nexus 5 in the car? I remember way back I used to use Car Home by Google before it was incompatible.
It'd be cool to open up Play Music or map a destination without pressing any buttons at all. Maybe something more expanded than Google Now. A hands free type of thing or an easy way to use it while its mounted in a car.
What app(s) do you guys use?
EDIT: I just realized I should've put this in Questions and Answers, reporting this thread for moving. Sorry about that.
Err...Google Car Home, search and ye shall find, don't even need root to install anymore if your not that way inclined.

Pandora Now Playing on Active Display

Saw a thread about this on reddit and took a stab at it.
Curious if there is anyone with root that does not have Tasker installed that would want to test it for me? It works on my Moto X, but I have Tasker.
The app fires a notification with the current song playing on Pandora so it can be seen on Active Display. It's still in the early stages, so it's not perfect.
If you're interested in trying it for me, here's a link. The only requirements are having root, using Pandora, and having a Moto X, obviously
https://copy.com/LlLkiTAtpdxnsFt
It will ask for root the first time it tries to run, and it updates every two minutes. Once I can tell that it's working on other devices, I can decrease the refresh time in an effort to be more accurate.
Note: It will ask for root the first time it runs, so you might want to keep your screen on for a few minutes until you see the root request. After that it will just fire the notification.
Edit 3/26: Also make sure that the app is enabled in your Active Display settings if you disabled the option to automatically enable all new apps
Thanks!

I can't seem to get it to work. Will reinstall Tasker and see if it works.

Did it request root? It runs on a two minute cycle, and scrapes the existing notifications, one of which is Pandora. It then assigns those to variables and makes its own notification.
If it did ask for root and still didn't work, can you check Settings > Accessibility and see if Tasker is checked?

I have SuperSU to auto grant root access. I hadn't had tasker installed when I thought I had. Installed it and still couldn't get it to work. I just checked Tasked in Accessibility so let's see.
Edit: Still nothing. Hmmmm.
Doesn't work for me either at&t moto x 4.4.2 root no write protection :/

Cool! I was starting to get worried that maybe it only worked for me. I forgot that some people may have the option to auto add new apps to Active Display turned off.
Any plans to extend the functionality to other media players like Google Music?

It could be done pretty easily, I just don't use Google Music. Once I confirm that this one works properly, I can take a look at that.
Didn't work for me. Stock rooted without tasker
Eclipsed X
not working for me either. Downloaded SuperSu, and enabled in Active Display and turned off the sleep at night.
Works great thanks.

Does this affect battery life?
For those of you who are not having success, and meet the requirements of the first post, please try it again. The app only updates every two minutes so you will not immediately see the notification appear. Let the sing play for a bit and then it will appear.
Needless to say mind works and I learned the lesson above from my own experiences.
Works Here
Followed directions, SuperSU installed, activate in Active display settings, small delay before it becomes active, works as advertised. Thanks for this.
Could you link Musixmatch Lyrics to Active Display ?
I am huge fan of MusixMatch Lyrics plugin, and love to see the lyrics playing on the Active Display mode itself, so we can see the lyrics without unlocking the phone.
You don't need root to do this with Tasker. All you have to do is use autonotification intercept to intercept the Pandora's notification.
I'll write a profile for you if you want
Lyrics aren't possible, Active Display only allows two lines

SMS Reader

Hi all, convert back to Android after a couple of years on Windows Phone. Missing Cortana and it's ability to read texts to me, make call handsfree etc etc.
I have found a few apps that read texts on the phone speaker, but can't find anything that works through the car Bluetooth with the sound coming over the car speakers.
Does anyone know an app that will do this please? I spend a lot of time on the car and the lack of this feature is an issue.

I have that installed but it doesn't have the same features for the car as the Windows version has.
You can't dial a number on the car Bluetooth and do voice control from there.
And again, it's not available officially in Australia.
Thanks anyway

How did you go with this? If your still trying things you could try smart connect. It's a Sony app but I have it installed on my mate 9 and so far it works the same. You can set up "events" so when your mate 9 connects to a certain device it will perform certain tasks, one of them being read texts. You can also have it turned the feature off when it disconnects.
I found you can use Tasker with various scripts to mimic the Cortana on Windows actions. But I just haven't had time to explore it. I am using "SMS, my Car and me" to read out messages. When I get some time I will have a look at your suggestion . Thank you for posting it here.
