I read a little about this and was wondering what method is the easiest to get music from my epic to car audio. My stock radio doesnt have a 3.5 jack and just has a cd/cassette player so i figured just buy the cassette adaptor but I hear problems with calls while using this method.
Is there any way around this other then bluetooth?
Yup a Fm transmitter which sends a radio signal and you play your music through the radio -$13 at walmart its ok but the cassette adaptor gives you better quality

But is there a cassette adapter that lets you talk on incoming calls. ive heard that you can hear them but they cant hear you
Casette adapter works just fine for calls. Audio is over car speakers and Epic's microphone. I do it all the time (or at least I did before buying the car dock which doesn't allow the calls to go through the car radio)

i use a $25 fm transmitter i got on newegg that plugs into my car's lighter adapter, excellent quality and i can change the station.
get a Radio transmitter that connects to your phone, and basically creates a radio station from your phone in all its glory.
Or, since bluetooth connectivity is here to stay, get a new cd player that has bluetooth. cassette what?
If you read the OP, you will see he says he does not get good results with FM and frankly neither have I. I live in a metropolitan area with a congested FM band. I have never been able to drive more than 15 minutes on a clear space in the FM band.
What is the cheapest Bluetooth stereo that lets you answer calls on it out there right now? I am looking to buy one because the FM transmitter just doesn't work well in Austin.

If you can handle very simple wiring (or know someone who can) this is a fairly cheap solution:

You'll want to boost the output volume on your phone through Voodoo control or another method. But it works 100x better than any of the wireless transmitters I've tried.
The cassette adapter is the way to go, and I see no reason they wouldn't be able to hear you. It's just headphones to the phone, and I talk with headphones all the time.
I mean, the only thing you have to keep in mind is it doesn't make the mic magical. You'd still have to hold it near your mouth, or put it on speaker (probably with mixed results). If people leave their phone buried in the console, then yeah, people can't hear them.
If you want to spend a little extra money and you plan to listen to music I would say go to crutchfield.com and "outfit your car". I just entered my cars information and it gave me the right product for the job. Now I have a 3.5mm jack coming through my trunk to my dash. Audio quality is perfect. Costs about 70 bucks but price will vary by car. Whicheve metod you choose I would also reccomend a ground loop amplifier for 15 bucks. I bought the best reviewed one on amazon and now there is no more electronic noise when I am charging my phone.

The Sony MEXBT2800 is the cheapest one I've seen with bluetooth built in, Dual makes a cheaper one but you have to buy the adaptor.

I use a Jabra Cruiser in my work van. It works fine, but you definitely lose some sound quality when playing music. It sounds kinda like AM radio. I use it mostly for talk radio podcasts and I really don't notice any quality difference there.

I also have a MotorolaT505 MotoRokr which works fine. Like the first poster I generally am listening to podcasts, so the sound quality is not as critical as for music. I would tend to buy from a local retailer and try it out, so it is easy to return if it doesn't meet your sound needs.
I'll send a dittos to the above-mentioned Moto T-505. I used to play my music with this same set-up in a tractor-trailer and my BlackBerry 8320.
As with any wireless connection, you would have 2 wireless connections here by the way, one from phone to BT unit & another into car's stereo, so there's the possibility of interference and sound degradation. IMO, it worked fine. And the connection does work. The real question is whether or not it is of good enough listening quality for you.

cheap ($50) and works decent. its an easy way to get bluetooth music and calls on your stereo without installing an adapter or new headunit. Suprisingly the FM transmitter even works decently in DFW area where there are no free frequencies... now you ar4e not going to get CD quality sound but it is better than nothing.

Installed that in my car, works pretty damn well. Gives you an aux input jack, but instead of transmitting OTA to FM, it plugs directly into your antenna on the car stereo, so it's much more clear.
I currently use a cassette adaptor because fm transmitters do not work well for me. What I would like to do is connect an A2DP bluetooth adaptor to the cassette adaptor for hands-free use. Can this be done and which device would you recommend? Is anyone currently doing this?
Also, I don't have an aux input on my stereo.

I have never seen anything like this before but that doesn't mean it's not out there. I would just pick up a decent mid range car stereo that already has bluetooth. I would imagine you can pick one up for around a hundred bucks.

If I understand what you are asking, the bluetooth adapter would need a line out - like a headphone jack. I have not seen that. There is a company called PAC that makes adapters that turn the connection to the 6 disc changer into an aux in. You might check them out.

I took your suggestion to check out the PAC adapter but unfortunately, they only offer a FM transmitters with bluetooth. I guess I'll have to use an FM transmitter. Thanks for helping.

NP. Unfortunately, I guess they don't have the wired interface for your particular vehicle.
Hey, I got exactly what you need! I just got a new car and it has Bluetooth but only for the phone. So I had to pick up this adapter to get A2DP working for streaming my music to the car. The adapter plugs into the AUX, standard 3.5mm jack.

This would work. OP didn't have an aux jack but that's ok he can just plug in the cassette adapter off of this.

I had previously ordered the Nokia Bluetooth headset from eBay for $15 from Hong Kong and it lets you plug any 3.5 jack into it. That worked out ok until I lost it. They have a few up there still that could be worth trying out.

Just wanted to report that the device I ordered will not work for me. In the picture of the device, I saw an input hole but it was for power, not a 3.5mm input. Sooooo, I guess I'll give up on this project.

Actually all you need is a "barrel" adapter. It would allow you to attach your cassett adapter to the bluetooth reciever you bought. They are very common and cheap.

I'm happy to report that:
Cassette adapter + 3.5mm female to female coupler + bluetooth audio receiver = SUCCESS
I'm not an audiophile but the quality of the output is the same as listening directly from the cassette adapter. 95% of the time, I listen to podcasts so quality is not a big thing for me. I did test with Pandora and Google Music and both sounded good to me. Today is the first day using it on my way to and from work ~30 minutes total. I will report back again once I've had time to use it extensively. I hope this helps others in the same boat.

The sound quality is the same as it was before routing through the cassette adaptor. I only have a 15 minute commute from work, so I can't speak on taking phone calls while connected. I did try to make a call once as a test. I could hear the other person clearly but they couldn't hear me even with the mic close to my face.

Tonight I made my first accessory purchase at the local Verizon store... as their prices have always been pretty bad, but I have a military discount of 15%, so I bit the bullet and purchased an iBolt cradle system. If you haven't seen it, there is a review in the accessory section, it's pretty spot on, but this important update is for those of us who don't have A2DP streaming in the car, and are forced to use the AUX IN jack.
Long story short, when using this dock, you have the option of sending the sound thru your micro USB port or out the phones speaker in back. This dock comes with a nine foot long cable that has micro USB at one end, and regular USB and a 3.5mm audio jack at the other. This beautiful setup allows you to not touch the evil headphone jack (trump card) on the phone, but rather it lets you the phone play music out the USB connection while retaining Bluetooth phone connectivity thru your cars Bluetooth connection! (while charging)
Silly that I had to buy a $32 device to get functionality that the AT&T version of our phone has natively... but at least it's fixed!
Not trying to be a jerk or anything, but what is the advantage of playing music through the USB instead of bluetooth? I actually like the BT option - plays music but pauses when a call come in and lowers the volume for GPS directions. Works great all at the same time...

There's a large portion of G3 owners who do not have bluetooth streaming (A2DP). Just because you have bluetooth phone connectivity does not mean you have bluetooth streaming. We are forced to use the aux in jack in the car to listen to music. I think a large portion of S3 owners simply tried to use the headphones jack on the phone... But if you do that, you cannot use bluetooth. Every sound is routed thru the headphones jack. You cannot toggle this.
So, using the iBolt cradle, witch ports the sound out via usb instead of the headphones jack, I am able to retain my cars bluetooth functionality.
Side note, not sure if you know this, but the sound quality of bluetooth streamed music is pretty bad compared to a cabled connection.

A day after I purchased the iBolt I received this little gadget in the mail from ebay.
USB Bluetooth Adapter
For under $10 it gives you the same A2DP bluetooth audio streaming. But, the difference is it doesn't sound nearly as good for the lower end of the spectrum. But, in a pinch it's awesome, and for the price, you can't beat it. I have it as a backup for now.
I took about 30 min and hid the iBolt cabling today. I like the fact that I moved the cradle to the top left of the windshield, away from the center console. Will post some pics later today of the install.
I am surprised at how easy the phone is to use with my left hand, from the steering wheel. Retaining the bluetooth functionality, specificallly my integrated microphone, really makes this work around worth every penny. Hope it helps someone else!

No worries, none taken. I am just ecstatic to be playing music via S3 thru my car stereo and still be able to use the cars bluetooth for phone calls! Now if we could come up with a fix for this damn NO SIM error, I would be in heaven. LOL!

I-bolt rocks. Bought one the other day. Search for best price. Down in the low to mid $30 range now depending on shipping and coupons.
Could anybody solve my problem? My car doesn't have a usb port so I cant use the iBolt to play music through it. I use the cassette player to audio jack and use bluetooth talk through my car speakers. Is there a solution to use bluetooth while using the audio jack?

Yes. I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner, but on anther board, someone brought this up and it works, albeit ghetto'ish.
Mount the phone somewhere in the car where you can speak towards the mic. Plug the cassette tape adapter into the headphones jack. When a call comes in, just answer the phone keeping the headphone jack in use, and the sound will come thru your stereo, but the mic you will be using is the one on the phone. Talked to multiple people who all heard me just fine. (even with the mic pointed downwards!)

The cable is exactly the right length to mount the ibolt anywhere in the car, hell I think we could mount it on the rear window, lol! There is space behind the base of the center console where you can tuck away any extra cable you have before you route the cable to the jacks. I decided to use an add on 2.1a USB car charger (cig lighter adapter) vs the cars internal USB as I don't think the MINI USB pumps out anything more than 450 mA (1\4 what the adapter puts out I bought seperately)

Does that require a custom Recovery and/or ROM, perhaps? I'd like to keep things relatively stock for now, though am OK with tweaks. Plus, the iBolt looks convenient to use in my car.

So how do you know if you have bluetooth streaming? aren't all the G3's the same in that respect? Or is it up to what your car can do?

I know I can do that but I want to use the bluetooth in my car to make calls(my car doesn't have bluetooth audio only calls). When I use the headphone jack to make calls people say their voice echoes back but if I use the cars bluetooth its fine.

EDIT: Nvm saw the answer already lol. Looks neat! 100 usd is kinda steep but you get an aux cable and fm capability for non AUX headunits, which is good though. You said you removed the cushions to use the mount with a case on. Did you remove it by peeling or cutting?

And I've used FM transmitters with phones/mp3 players before. Sadly they are not very useful in large city areas/major suburbs where all the FM channels are basically taken.

No it has an AUX cable to connect to if you have an AUX port in your head unit. If not, then yes bt via FM is your only choice at that point. Well unless you have an old tape deck of a head unit and get a cassette aux port creator lol. Man those where the days hookin up cd players to your head unit .
Anyways, it seems a bit steep but a combo unit like that isn't that bad IMO. But you are right, if your area is a large metro, the FM frequencies will be too crowded to get a quiet streaming signal to use.

I paid £59.80 inc delivery as I asked if I could have a discount other wise the best i could find was direct via their site. There are cradle with FM transmitters that are cheaper (around £25) however a) there is an extra lead to connect as there is no bluetooth b) the quality is not as good as (so I am told).
You are paying for a Cradle, charger, good bluetooth to FM transmitter, and the extra Aux cable. I selected to mount on dash but you could mount on the window. Yes - if you car does not have bluetooth then yes this is solves the problem. Beware - if you have bluetooth already then it needs to support media profile to stream navigation audio via the car stereo.
I also forgot to say with bluetooth streaming on and GPS on - it charger about 15% in about 15 mins.

I just peeled the cushions off with my finger, was OK, and just kept rubbing the glue until it was all gone. I do plan to add a smaller / thinnner rubber pads at some point to replace what I removed - however not really needed at the moment.
Seems you would be better off spending the extra cash having a good Bluetooth stereo installed. I just went to best buy got a really nice Pioneer BT stereo for around 130. After installation, adapters and such the grand total was 240 us. Even with a 20-30 dollar car mount for your phone you're under 3bills and it sounds awesome. Hands free calling music navigation all through my stereo with zero interference.
I have also used all kinds of FM transmitters and from experience I can tell you they NEVER work as advertised. Sure maybe if you live 100 miles or more outside any big city you might get it to work but it will NEVER sound good. I travel from Indiana to Chicago a lot for work and rite about the state line they always cut out no matter what channel I was using. The loudness of the sound you get from them is always about half of what a normal radio station is and even less than that of a CD.

In reply - I have since driven around to test this and agree trying to find a FREE FM signal is quite hard.
I have since connected the cradle to the stereo via the removable but supplied aux lead and this is much much better. I still Bluetooth enabled - so can connect any Bluetooth device however I now do not get the FM interference.

It is a good car kit and for me better than replacing my car stereo - as you would also need to get a cradle and method to charge with out!
Got tired of wearing a bluetooth headset in the car and was considering upgrade my car's audio system to something that would have bluetooth.
Just by luck I found this bluetooth adapter that once connected to my car's audio system, gave it all the modern capabilities.
No more headsets, no more fiddling with turning volume down on maps, so that I could make a phone call.
My Galaxy S4 now streams audio to my radio, when a call comes it is pauses the music, or when maps has some voice guidance, it also pauses music and then continues afterwards.
Same when I make a phone call... music pauses and continues afterwards.
This company GROM Audio makes bluetooth adapters for many cars.

That was really nice to know about such product...can you post or share the link....if you have found it somewhere online...
A Bluetooth Stereo have been one of the best things I have ever put in my car, in my case an aftermarket Sony Deck.
This just makes everything so much easier and less cables around the place. All i need now is one to charge my phone and that is it. Even when I'm with friends I can have them connect using their phone and play music while sitting in the back seat.

Been looking at these as well recently as the CD player in my car at the moment only plays standard CDs and not mp3 CDs which is a pain.
But these really are a bargain, just need the aux cable which is about £6 and I'll have bluetooth audio!

You really need to get a Prime membership. I have had it since they first offered it years ago.
Anything marked "Prime" (big or small) ships for free via 2-day FedEx air and you get free Kindle borrows and free streaming of movies and TV.
All for $80 a year. I have Kindles and I buy stuff from them all the time so I make out like a bandit! :good:
But yeah, the thing works perfectly and since my Mustang came with a power point and aux in jack inside the center console, it is invisible and just flat works.
When I get one that will also pipe the phone audio through the speakers, this one will go in the Motorhome for sure.
