[Q] Slide keyboard open, screen shuts off. Anyone else had this problem? - EVO Shift 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm thinking it's a ribbon cable between the two halves of the phone that is causing this. I have flashed multiple different ROMs and restored backups from before this happened, all with full wipes in between. When i slide the keyboard open, the screen seems to lose power. It won't come back on until i shut the phone and press the power button once to turn off the capacitive buttons, and once more to turn it back on.

This has been happening to me for a couple months now and I would like to know what it is also! Now I just stick with swype because it's a B**** trying to get the screen back if I open the keyboard on haha.

Yeah mine wasn't like that when i posted, i could turn it back on with 2 presses. Now, however, it can take upwards of a few minutes for me to get the screen to turn on. I went to Sprint and they ordered me a replacement free of charge, but it's not gonna be here til Monday. I hate on screen keyboards that's why I have a shift!

I have had all kinds of screen short problems all cause by the shield and holster combo once I removed that my screen quit shorting out, there were time I would literally flick to screen so hard I would hurt my finger to get it to come back on so i took the case off thinking the phone was trashed and like a week later it was 100% fine and has been for 3 months

I had the SAME thing happen with my old one. Although sprint wouldn't give me a free one because my screen was busted from a drop also at the time (which i thought that was what caused the screen problem)

Seems that this is a common problem, case or no case. I've never had a case of any kind on mine.

Edit: Disregard lol
Anyway I always use a case (otterbox if i can)

I'm just now having the same problem. Never had a case and never have had to replace my phone so its still the original. Maybe its a defect with the phones that had came out cause i know on my HTC touch pro 2 there was a defect on the screens for people that bought the phone when it first came out. I don't wanna replace mine now cause i don't wanna deal with batch files lol so i'm learning to use the onscreen keyboard

Then don't use the batch files. Do it with adb
Its honestly not hard at all to use adb and do it. I downgraded and rooted and everything in a movie theatre using only my phone in about 20 minutes.

Saw this issue a few times, on several Touch Pro 2's. Although I've never had the issue, I've seen what was the cause most of the time. It was usually the flex cable connecting the keyboard.

Wow, I will have to be careful to make sure I never have this problem with my phone, which I bought in February.
As for what notsointeresting was saying about adb, I rooted my phone for the first time today (being the 8th of November), and it was easy. It did take some time to do, but overall, it was really easy.

Touchscreen Jitter Issue

Ok so i picked up my new skyrocket 2 days ago and I put CWM on it, made a back up and installed the ICS flavor ROM from the development forum. Everything went fine, and i didnt use the phone much yesterday, but today i noticed that i am having annoying touchscreen problems. It basically makes Swype unusable. I have restored back to stock and it was still doing it. I have reinstalled the ICS rom, double flashing it, and it still does it. Is anybody else having issues like this? Its noticable on lists. This video is just an example but it does it in the market, on web pages, etc..
http://youtu.be/x__jdlGXyjk
I have never had these problems. Maybe take it back and exchange it.

Update:
I used odin and i reset everything to stock with no CWM and no Root and the issue has stopped as far as i can tell. Maybe i just had a bad download. Ill redownload it again and flash it tonight and see if it persists.
Ok so ive been using stock and it started again. I used an app called Touch Test to see what the screen is seeing. It is a really intermittent issue. There is a "ghost touch" that is happening. near the top of the screen and at the bottom of the screen. A touch in the middle causes it to jump to the top and then back to the bottom causing touches to jump all over the place. It is very intermittent. I didnt buy the phone from ATT so there could be 2 reasons for the this.
A) It was sold to me like this
B) The people at ghost armor put to much liquid on my phone when applying the screen protector and messed up my phone.
I didnt notice any issues before i got it ghost armored, but i only had the phone 2 days before i got it wrapped.
Any ideas on how to recalibrate the screen or any other options i may have?
Found the culprit... Kind of embarrassed it took me this long. Ended up being the wall charger. Its a cheap knock off but it had the same input and output. I was sitting at my desk on the touch test app seeing it spaz out and unplugged it to show my friend what was happening and it stopped. Used the same cable to plug into the pc and no problem. Well that is a relief.

Wow, thanks a lot for this info man! You really saved my life.
I also got a new charger and started experiencing these weird jitters. If it wasn't for this post I would never have figure it out.
My new charger was an Original one from Samsung, but it was obviously made for a different model as the output voltage and current were higher = caused jitters.
I then went back to using my old charger which came with the phone and the issue is gone.
Using Samsung Galaxy S5 NEO (SM-G903F).
Thanks again!!!

Randoom reboot

I' ve got randoom reboot with my One S. Doesn't matter if it lays anywhere and is in standby or i work with it. Without any sign it reboots... Sometimes after an half hour , sometimes after hours. Somebody gots an idea why? Oh forget to say, it's not customized or rooted

No this is definetely not normal. I would recommend to make use of your warranty cause this could be related to an hardware issue

Same here in Spain with an Orange HTC One S. Yesterday my phone rebooted three times and it was just laying next on my desk. Another problem is sometimes it doesn't connect to GSM network for a minute or two. It is also chipping a litlle bit on the upper edge. I am thinking of returning it.
Exactly the same here for me in the UK. New one s. Reboots since day 1. Does it anywhere from 2-5 times a day even when sat idle.

Nooooooooooooo I switched from a Motorola Defy+ to a OneS to get away from that particular problem which seemed to be unsolvable. Just about only things you could try is another sim card (unlikely), factory reset or probably the best option ..... take it back asap.
Thankfully I don't have the problem >touches wood<
my h3g signal go and come sometimes, but i think it depends by my cutting sim card to transform in micro sim.
I also cut my sim card to make it into a micro sim. I new this was possible but thought this might be a bad idea but when I spoke to vodafone about getting a new sim, they said 'bring it in and we'll cut it down for you'. I thought I might as well do it myself.
I just had a thought. How many of you with the rebooting problem have their phones in cases? Mine is. Now that you can't remove the battery to reset they've built that functionality into the power off button. Hold down to reset. I don't think it's that sensitive, but it just got me to thinking, is the case putting some minor pressure on that button to reset the phone? I just tried it manually, and it replicates the reboot... Going to try leaving mine out of the case for a while. Should only take a day to find out. Having said that, it does it sat on the desk on charge without having been touched.

I agree. Anyone using a TPU gel case that has the power button covered up might get this problem. I have cut a hole in the case over the power button for exactly this reason. Holding down the power button on the phone for ~10 secs replicates a battery pull.
Looking now to find a gel case that already has a hole there as mine looks a little untidy now.
Just an update. Left phone out of case since yesterday - rebooted once yesterday whilst I tried to launch the browser and once just now whilst it was on standby on my desk. The case would appear to not be relevant. Got a response from HTC. Apart from recommending a factory reset (why do they recommend that on a new blank phone!), they say return it....

I dont know about this though. If that was the case, you'd be seeing your lockscreen come up as well.
I too had my phone randomly restart on me twice yesterday within a <30min time frame. Was advised if it keeps doing it to take it back for a replacement at the store I bought it from. Oh and as for the case thing that doesn't matter, mine was in the leather HTC pouch which leaves the top of the phone uncovered.

[Q] Samsung Fascinate Screen Problem.

I'm having a problem where every other day I go to unlock my phone and the screen flashes white quickly and immediately shuts off. It does the same when I take the battery back out and put it back in. If I push on the sides and the housing a bit and that usually fixes it till the next time. If I put the cover back on soon after its episode it does it again. I think there might be a short or something in the screen. Has anyone experienced this or know what it is? : /
I had that problem on a phone I had a couple years ago. It wasn't a fascinate but I bought a replacement screen off Ebay and it fixed it.

I'm going to take it apart and try to see what could be wrong, I looked up some videos and it appears that it has prongs that touch kinda like how the batteries on phones work. I think it might be one of those aren't touching.

did it get wet or dropped hard right before it started happening? That's about the only way I'dsee the prong getting damaged.
No that's the thing. I've treated it very well. It is 3 years old. Seems fine today at least : p

[Q] Touchscreen wonky, not sure what it could be.

EDIT: Alright, I did the reset completely now and it seems to be working, still kinda reluctant to work in portrait mode. Suggestions/comments/help highly appreciated.
Hi, I've lurked this site for years but I only joined just to ask this question.
Now, I currently have this phone, the Mytouch 4G Slide for T-Mobile, for about 8 or 9 months now. Everything is fine. Except when I dropped it.
I dropped it and now the touchscreen sometimes doesn't work, no matter if it's in portrait or landscape. The keyboard still works and the face buttons work but the touchscreen is iffy. I thought it might be the digitizer but after doing some research on Google, if it were that, it would NEVER work from what I understood.
So, from then I thought it had to be a software issue, which is understandable as I did install a bunch of apps within the month, one of those including a compass. I removed and saved everything, then did a master reset/clean wipe and restarted my phone anew. I turned it on, and the screen came on. I went to slide the ring, and it didn't slide. Everything else works, touchscreen is still being pissy.
I notice when I let it sit for a bit, with it off and with the battery out, and turn it back on after about 5 to 10 minutes, it works okay. Either the screen will work in both portrait or landscape, OR only portrait or landscape. And sometimes, rarely, neither will work.
Is it possible for the digitizer to be -slightly- damaged? Or is it one of those things where if it's broken, it's noticeably broken? I'm not sure how to go about this as I've done everything I could think of. Some assistance would really be nice.
Digitizers can be partialy working, I have ran into this many times. To me it sounds like a bad digitizer or flex cable, but more than likely the digitizer

So, should I open it up and see what's going on or just replace it completely? I already know how to, I just have to go and buy the kit.
I have torn open many phones in my day, and this is without a doubt the most pain in the ass! If it won't cost you much to have someone else do it, say less than 50, it may be worth it. But it will only be 20 if you buy a new digitizer from ebay and do it yourself. Its easy to tear apart untill you get to the "screen assembly" for lack of better words.
Here there is soooo much sticky it can be hard to take apart without cracking lcd. So if you do this, use ample heat for like five min or more to seperate the chasis from the lcd back.
If your curious on my expeience I posted about it here

[Q] Screen drop outs and now always black, why?

Hi guys,
my DS did some strange stuff lately. It began with the screen staying black when I woke it up (hardware buttons did turn on and touchscreen also worked). I thought it was a software issue, because after a few on and offs the screen usually worked again. Also, this never happened when the phone was charging.
But a few days ago the screen never turned back on again, even when charging. I got a new battery but still no change. It won't even turn on when booting or when going to fastboot/ hboot.
Does anyone have an idea what is broken? I think my best guess is to have a look at these other screen replacement threads, but I wanted to ask first because the screen seemed to have gradually become broken, which confuses me. I didn't think something like that was even possible. Also, I can't return it since I bought it used and in Germany (DS is USA exclusive).
Thanks for help
Most certainly hardware as it is black when in bootloader and ROM. Best guess is the LCD but could also be the main flex the likelyhood of any thin else is fairly small.
Do read up on the screen replacement threads as this phone is one pain in the ass, you also need to be aware of what LCD to buy as there were different ones and they are not compatible.

Thanks for the tips. Screen might be still ok since it went out gradually, could be a defective contact since it also went on and off randomly. But I guess there is no way to only replace this contact, too complicated to find out... I will see.
Yeah, I had a look at these threads already, thank you
I had a program that I moved to the sd card that would cause the screen not to come on and would have to do a battery pull. When I moved the app back to the phone, the problem stopped.
(Walgreens app)
It has happened again since, so it may be another app I have to track down. Or I may be looking at faulty screen trouble too.
Sent from my MyTouch 4G Slide using Tapatalk 2
even if an app on sd were the cause of this it certainly couldnt make the screen blackout while in recovery and bootloader mode. to the best of my knowledge it has to be a hardware fault if screen wont turn on in bootloader... but well ive been proven wrong in the past
Well since I had problems with the screen turning off before when it did work in recovery, there might be a connection to daswerk's case. However I kept all my apps on the internal SSD and do remember checking it. Also, my screen turned back on sooner or later or when I played around with the keyboard.
However later it was off even in recovery mode. I did disassemble my DS lately (and broke my screen like seemingly everyone else hehe) and am now waiting for my new LCD screen to arrive in Germany from the states haha. Shipping costs were higher than LCD costs, d'oh! Thanks again demkantor, you've been helping me indirectly with your posts in the other threads as well
So guys, screen arrived, reassembled my phone, switched it on aaand... black screen.
Graphic chip or motherboard may be broken. I'm thinking about a loose connection because screen turned off once in a while before it never got back on. I found a user by coincidence here on xda who reported the same problem.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Don't want to forsake my dearly loved DS :'(
Next most likely would be main flex cable

Are there other possibilities as well? I'm thinking about getting a whole replacement set so I can try everything shipping costs are high since I live in germany hmmf
btw, digitizer/ touchscreen doesn't seem to work either, is this another sign that main flex cable is the prolem?
There are always more possiblities I was just letting you know what I would replace next as the most likley cause.
Having multiple phones to exchange parts is a good idea and really about the only way to test different components
And yes have no digitizer working can be a sign of a bad flex as well
