About an hour ago I didn't know anything about cyanogen, or what kind of mod it was. So I did some basic research, then on these forums I looked at some C7 base mods, the issue is, there are more than one of them!
I like the fact they come without sense, better battery life and are 'clean'. Currently I'm using Mikes hd revolution 3.6.2 and it works a treat. But I fancy a non-sense Rom.
Could anyone with experience tell me what I'm in for (pros and cons) and perhaps point me to the best Cyanogen mod around?
Thanks in advance.
I run the CM7 Alpha-version from the CyanogenMod website. It can be found here: http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/forum/401-htc-sensation-experimental-mod/ (see the sticky post a the top).
A few known issues aside (which don't concern me much), so far, it works great for me - the phone really feels much better without Sense. I definitively won't go back to a Sense ROM.

I agree with this. I would recommend you use the official CM7 from kmobs himself. After you expirment with the original cm7, you can try different variations of it

So the SelfKang7 version on XDA is different from the official kmobs version? What is the difference exactly? I often wondered what the difference was.

No the selfkang is exactly the same. The other roms are based off the selfkang and are themed with extra bits added/removed and some are more optimised.

Okay thanks for clarifying. I keep going back and fourth between ARHD and CM7 because I absolutely hate the CM7 camera issues. My FFC on CM7 even takes picture upside down??? Crossing my fingers the stable version will have a solid all functioning camera with zero glitches.

I agree, Why can't they make a launcher like that?
Maybe you're better off asking in a miui forum (miui-us for example?)
I run miui on my Desire and it's great. The speed of aosp with a little bit of *sparkle*.
I think it suffered a bit as many of the early themes were straight out iphone rip-offs, but the community has really matured and is turning out some good stuff these days.
I'm sure there will be miui for Sensation - will probably just take a little while.
CM for Sensation will be great as well. Nothing like a little variety!

Strictly speaking that is true, but bmarko had MIUI on the Galaxy S II about 95% working before the first CM7 nightly was out for that device -- I know because I was using it. And even now he has only used a couple of fixes from CM7 to my knowledge (vibration and 1080p camera). My point is with the desire and knowledge to do it, MIUI on the Sensation could be developed without a prior CM7 release.

you are both right, and wrong I'm sure if you asked bmarko he would tell you he ported cm7 himself first. Miui cannot exist without cm7. But if a dev got cm7 working, he could plunk miui on top of it and release it as miui without the cm7 base ever being released.

I agree with this guy here as opposed to the other two members. I've tried BOTH roms listed and they're basically the same. Just very ever so slightly different. I used to use ARHD but then I started using other roms because Mike doesn't update his often. InsertCoin gets updated pretty good but I experience issues once in a while (it's nothing severe though) and it's not a bad rom at all. I'm using bulletproof though because I love all the mods he adds on. It's really up to you, gotta try and find out what you want and like.
Agree that it's up to you to try, test, tune, etc what's best for your needs & likes! Take a deep read in the Development section...happy flashing!
CM7 is the best rom on sensation by far.
CM7.
Sent from my Sensation using xda premium
I started using custom ROMs with my G1 and CyanogenMod. I stuck with that exclusively for a really long time through different devices. Since it has taken a while for CM to come out on the Sensation, I started flashing all kinds of different ROMs. That's the beauty of Android and XDA. You can try all kinds of stuff out and decide what you like the best. I currently use Android Revolution HD 4.1.3 (Android 2.3.5, Sense 3.5) with the Amaze camera. I'll use this until a stable version of CM comes out with a better camera. I also use ADW.Ex launcher. This works for me for now because it has a really nice camera, but I've tried a TON of ROMs. Whatever you do, ALWAYS search for answers, use the appropriate forums (General, Q&A, Themes & Apps) properly, and have fun.

I don't want to give recommedations since there are a couple of awsome mods floating out there...
If you like Sense and eye pleasing colours and animations go with CoreDroid. Wipe battery stats when you flash a new rom (made a big difference for me).
I'm thinking of going back to sense after an extended period on miui as I'm bored and until the kernal is released ics is not fully functional. Now my question is what from do I choose. There are so many now there's 2.1, 3 or 3.5. Then there's Endymion, coredroid, bindroid and so on.
What I really want to know is what one works flawlessly and is smooth. Any suggestions to help me choose?

I also vote for endymion, not out of my own experience (I'm a cm freak^^), but because lowveld is a great dev and supporter and many users are happy with it.
But, your best bet would be to try it out yourself, hyperion i.e. is also pretty good sense 3.0 or lbc_mod if you like 2.1 better.
Last but not last coredroid also got many users.

hey all, looking to flash the most stable rom for the inspire out there! anyone wanna give me a few good stable roms?
Anything gingerbread is rock solid. ClearDroid and Virtuous Unity are my favorite for Sense and Gingerbeast and Absolution rock if you want to be senseless. The ICS roms are stable enough for daily use but might have small issues that keep them from being the right choice for you. Personally, I love Redemption but there are others that have more active development. I haz not tried jellybean but I would guess that is the same or worse when compared to ICS. You will have to try some out and see what works best for you.

I agree that 2.47.502.7 was buggy and I did not like it even when devs re cooked it. As for the last update 3.20.502.52 or even the original Rom they ran flawlessly. And to use roms with these bases was really all I was saying to him. Just stick to roms built off of these for the most stable experience. I've spent quite amount of time unrooted and also running every Rom you could possibly flash on this device and when I am on an actual inspire base every part of the phone runs the way it should ( with the exception of 2.47.502.7). I think we agree, I just meant roms based off stock, not necessarily stock itself.
As for what Rom to run that differs all together. I'm on an Ics sense Rom that was never intended for our device but I'm willing to live with a little instability for more options and Ics

Yes I agree. Gingerbread is most stable. Some dhd base though have minor issues like agps not updating accurately, scanner apps not reading barcodes, battery drain, intermittent WiFi/data issues, Sound problems.. etc. Nothing major though. My favorite dhd base was the sense 3.0 update they got. Runs the smoothest imo. Sense 3.5 and up gets a little clunky.

I really like this ROM but its not being updated, and I'm unsure how to get the camera working in it.

Why not have it based on Jelly Bean? The main camera IS working in bruce's builds. ICS seems so yesterday and counter to the groundbreaking cutting-edge nature of Paranoid Android. But then again I laugh and scoff when I see a Sense 3.6 ROM posted. I'd be a lot less interested in Paranoid Android if it was based on CM9 instead of CMX

I agree with you. Cm9 seems cool, but outdated by JB. If I had instructions on how to do it, it would be a great task for me. I work, so doing this would be on my spare time but it is better than nothing don't you think? I also think that having more than one person would be a lot less of a hussle. Using CM9 you'd be working with a VERRRY old 1.5 Paranoid Android Codebase.
1.6+ (They're on v 1.99 currently) requires JB.
If the OP for the Sensation port could publish his how-to on how he ported it, there are SEVERAL of us in the community that are willing to help maintain this ROM going forward.
