I have flash CM7.1.0-11.10.12-ODEX-XT720-J.Y.Daddy on my Milestone XT720 but am not able to boot into Recovery mode. The same problem when tried to boot it from Rom Manager with CLockworkmod.
Since when is our phone supported by CWM and/or ROM-Manager?
Where did you read that? :nvm:
Nevertheless try holding power + volume up + media gallery button to get into recovery mode.
If you've installed Open Recovery (1.4.6 or Mioze's XT720) just hold volume up while booting.
Or do you mean the special button for booting in recovery while shutting down. I don't think this button works...

Which SBF are you running? When the Korean kernel runs on Milestone XT720, it's a known problem that volume up doesn't work to enter openrecovery (which is a pain).

i used UK SBF...but when i flash korean sbf, all the sensors are not working so i cant get into settings to enable debug for rooting. How to do it? Is it only the Korean sbf is the best thing to do?
One more question, everything works fine with CM7 by JDaddy for me except, the camera resolutions, failed to move in SDcard though i have partioned using Gparted with ext4, 1gb; 30mb Linux swap and 6.35GB Fat32. i have only 173mb internal memory....

You don't have a custom recovery but rather the stock one that came with the phone. Make sure you have these 3 things on your SD card. Openrecovery.zip (size will be 1701mb), and openrecovery folder and another folder labeled nandroid with another folder labeled openrecovery. So it will look like this
Sdcard/openrecovery.zip
Sdcard/openrecovery
Sdcard/nandroid/openrecovery
**No spaces between**
Go to this thread and download and unzip this recovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1242259) This is what we are all using now b/c of the customization that MZ put into it. Follow the directions. If and when you replace your files in the sdcard/openrecovery/updates make sure that if you have anything in there that you want, don't overwrite them.
Hi guys, i need help too... I just reformatted my SD card (using gparted on linux) but i encountered a problem after I put back the card, I cant enter recovery even with the correct files inside. Ive tried re-installing OR using dexter's openrecovery apk but that didnt work too. When I reboot into OR through the app, i just get the triangle sign with the exclamation mark. Same when I use the volume up. Ive also tried going into stock recovery, but i get to this problem too. Any suggestions? Thanks!

This happened to me on my wife's phone. What worked for me was to take MZ's OR.zip and extract it and RE-copy all the files over into your SDCard/openrecovery folder. For some reason the OR "broke" and had to be completely re-installed. I just used Dexters.apk, installed it, unziped MZ's and replaced the folders. I powered down and then did the Power-volume-media hold to get it running. But she was on Stock so she didn't have the extended power menu.
Also what ROM are you running atm? If you use MZ's OR, there is a bootstrap fix that will generally prevent this from happening.
Side note: I know GParted is the wave of the future, but I hate how it erases everything. I have used MiniTool Partition Wizard from the beginning and can say that I have had no one of the problems as GParted. You can resize and reallocate your partitions at will and all the data will be preserved in your FAT. You can even coipy over data from one EXT to another EXT. Just my 2cents.

Before I reformatted the card, I was using MZ's OR, and I just did the bootstrap fix lol. I'll just try it again later.
Just now when I used GParted, I could move the partitions around, and resize them too without losing any data. I was using Lucid Puppy 5.2.8 if that has any difference from the 5.2 version...

download another rom and flash it, make sure you have the required partitions ie; Fat32, EXT4, LinuxSwap

Trying holding home after restarting - into recovery
Select Partition Card and follow the clicks.
Load a Rom onto the card using the MS Toggle
Flash a Zip from card
this might get better replies in the QA section.
Can I run this on Sapphire? Whens the next release date?

well, if it was a "while back" they probably don't have MS toggle ( mass storage, i.e mount sd over usb )
@OP
just get the rom onto your sdcard, power off phone, remove sdcard, put in adaptor , then in to your pc's card reader.
you will also want to upgrade recovery
RA1.7.0 is probably your best bet

Totally true FR.
Dont worry OP, Im bilingual in British :
To get the rom onto your sd card:
Power off phone, remove sd card and use an adapter to get a rom on.
This method can be used if your recovery does not support MS.

thats because you flashed it from cm5, nothing wrong with the recovery
issue is CM5+'s kernels
Since they can't boot to ROM the instructions on Amon_RA's page are perfect.
clockwork recovery's page does not give any detail on how to flash, infact it recommends you do it via ROM Manger, which can get you stuck for a bit
PS you can use Amon_RA's instructions to install Clockwork
I'm warming to clockwork, but it has some things I just don't like
No console ((((
No flash/action confirmation, ( trackball is not great, you sometimes slip up or down when pressing ... grrrr )
Hi
i stalled clockworkmod as described here but when i try to pull it up with the (volume + and power button) all it does is go into the reboot kernal thing and shows the install box and then boots up to normal screen. Did i miss a step somewhere?
thanks
jt
Did you make sure you did it from actual SD Card? (not internal storage).
I followed the steps as well and got the files suggested. I did not root my device however. I'm running the newest build of the stock TnT UI.
I put the update.zip on the root of my SD Card and then the folder recovery (with command in it) on the SD Card as well. I flashed it using the stock method. It didn't look like it flashed but when I powered down and went through the ropes I boot into CWM.

Sounds like you did not install CW. When you unpack the install, it should look like this:
/sdcard/update.zip
/sdcard/recovery/command
If either of those is not exactly like that, it will not work.
Thanks rothnic,
that was the fix, got it working now
I've got CM, Titanium backup, and Vegan on the SD card ready to go, but when I hit power and volume, see a quick download icon, then nothing.
I feel like an idiot.
----
I went back, cleared the sd card and left the update.zip
and recovery/command.
Still nothing.
try moving to the CM files to the sdcard not the sdcard2 (i tried running it from the external microsd but moving to the internal sdcard seemed to work) also makesure the files on the sdcard are moved to the right place on the sdcard just like:
/sdcard/update.zip
/sdcard/recovery/command
as described from rothnic's post in this thread
I am having the same problem....
I applied the latest update before trying this...
Any Ideas?
Got a bit of a problem folks,, hope to get some help...
i have been running TNT lite since i got the tab and was up to 4.1 and started getting the acore force closes. so i followed some threads and installed clockwork and did the partition reformate and wipe data,,,,
now when i reboot, it gets the birds splash, and moves to the G-tablet boot image (i have the dancing droid one) and it hangs,,,,,,, nothing....
any ideal how i "fix this"...
thanks for any help because as you can see i am at a stop!

I had some issues with my first tab similar to what you are having. The only way I solved it was by reflashing and wiping all date, which takes you back to the EULA. Good luck.
Do you have functional recovery? I'm guessing yes since you partitioned. Go to recovery and flash the rom again. You can mount the usb drivers in cwm to start usb mass storage so that you can download the rom on your computer and transfer to tablet. You can also put rom on external sd card and install from cwm.
When you partitioned the storage you deleted everything including the os. I believe it warned you of that before you did it.
If no recovery then you will have to nvflash. Search nvflash and bekit to get the nvflash info.
Matt
Make sure you are using bekits .8 CWM release. The latest release of CWM gave me fits, the only thing that would install was CM 7.
This isn't an Android Development topic, its a General topic, but don't worry about it, a mod will move it.
As to the question, like the others said. Use CWM .08, Wipe System, Wipe Cache, Install zip from SD Card, Install your choice of ROM (in your case, TnT Lite 4.1), Install gApps.zip, Reboot system now. That should get you up and running.
I am confused about you saying that you just now installed CWM but have been running TnT Lite. How would you have done that or do you mean you tried to update CWM or do you mean you have been using the stock TnT?
Also, feel free to hop on the #Tegratab IRC on Freenode if you need fast troubleshooting. Someone is usually on there to help

I "think" i tried this last night. I have 4.1.4 Update.zip and recovery folder on an USB stick. In CW, i went to "mount USB" (thinking i could access my USB and install from there) but ???? i didnt see anything and the only options were install update.zip from SD, and from Location but no USB option, and of course no way (that i saw) to brows to another location to "pick" where i wanted to install from.
Im thinking i am missing something with this step, or just plain old doing it wrong..

I have been installing the Roms, by downloading, taking the two "files" and moving them to my tab, and then rebooting with the power volume up,, ,finds the update and installs the ROM. its worked for all of them since 2.2...i thought i read that was an acceptable means of installing the ROM.????
as far as getting the files onto my SD (now). How? my computer doesnt see the tab because it is just hanging on dancing andy(unless there is anothe way of making it "see it", i cant seem to figure out how to get CW to read from my USB drive.....
Im just plain "stuck".
I am by no means a Android guru, and up to this point havnt had problems in the past... I TRULY am thankful for ANY help and all help i have recieved...
thanks folks

power off the tablet.
hold vol+ then power till u see recovery key pressed in the upper left corner of the screen. it will appear while the birds are still on the screen. If you get to the g tablet screen power off and repeat till u get into cw recovery.
Using volume +/- to navigate up and down Home to select and back to go back one level
Navigate cw recovery till u see mount usb storage i think its under partitions.
when you see usb mounted hook up the usb cable to the computer to the tablet mini usb port. copy the rom of your choice to the tablet. u only need the update.zip
once copied unmount usb storage.
back out till u see apply update.zip
Install and reboot u will be good to go.
of course flash gapps if u know what that is and want market on the tab.
Enjoy.

CW Won't read your USB drive. The "Mount USB" option in CW is to mount your tablet onto your computer as a USB storage device. By doing so, you can push files over to the tablet's internal storage from your computer.

Agree. That is what I was talking about earlier, I just couldn't remember what it was labelled in CWM. Mount the USB to your PC and push over the file. Then in CWM choose install from sdcard (I think, too lazy to look). Navigate to the rom file and run it. All should be well after that.

Update: 08/22/2011
CWM 4.0.1.5
Code:
Changelog:
https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_bootable_recovery/commits/gingerbread
Also changed the Init logo. You should like it :P
This brings you up to date.
DOWNLOAD
Internal: http://krylon360.com/file_host/G2x/nvflash-internal-08222011.zip

To flash, use NVFLASH.
I am using Chris's nvflash script from the original cwm. I modified it to flash the new recovery image.
Instructions
Power off phone
take battery out
hold vol up and down and plug in USB
You wont see anything, but it should mount
(If you get an error USB Device not found after running the script, unplug from pc and phone, and redo it)
extract file
type ./flash-recovery.sh and enter
once you see .img sent successfully, unplug usb and put bat back in
hold vol down + power, once you see the 2nd logo, let go
OLD!
This is the newest version of CWM compiled from Source. Along with this comes some much needed changes.
1st and foremost: I am not responsible for any bricks. Know what you are doing before attempting this.
Code:
New Version Changes 06/16/2011
Reverted back to Yellow Color Scheme (this was causing source not to sync)
What ever else changed with the source
This is just to bring you guys to the latest CWM Source.
New Host :)
Changes:
Red font (Much like Voodoo Red CWM) to show EXT4 Support
Able to backup and restore both ext3 and ext4 without any issues
(restore ext3 over ext4 and vice-versa)
EDIT: 2 versions now avail. These instructions are for the Internal SD version only
CWM now mounted to Internal SD. Brought back flashing from Internal SD due to request.
External SD is also mounted, however at this time, unable to flash from both internal and external.
If you would like your old CWM backups, be sure to copy over the Clockworkmod folder from your external to your internal sd.
External version instructions.
There aren't any. Flash as you are use to with the 3.0.2.7 Yellow recovery

New Update.
Updated 2nd Boot Logo, now no longer Blue LG
Fixed USB Mass Storage option. Now mounts to the PC when selecting.
Reboot option is due to a kernel issue on stock. If you have CM7, this works though.

you can now backup and restore ext4 based partitions.
This also give the option to have the latest cwm, and gives the option to be able to flash from internal sd if you happen to have a small microsd, anotherwords if you have only a 2gb microsd, go for the internal version because that will give you more space for roms, kernels, and mods, and backups.

UnionMount/aufs/unionfs?
Anybody remember the discussions and use of aufs (https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Aufs) and unionfs (https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/UnionFS) back in the G1 days? Lots of discussions here in XDA about it but I believe it was available in haykuro, cyanogen and jesusfreak builds. It allows two separate filesystems to appear on the same mount point. I'm not sure what issues exist with it today but maybe some of the kernel hackers could comment?
Anyone else notice that the SD card space free is messed up on the external version? Still seems to be reading the free space from Internal, although SEEMS to be backing up to external SD (as its not failing w/ on 300MBs free)
EDIT: LMAO! Guess i accidentally flashed the wrong version. That's what happens when I work on my phone before coffee........

Is "Settings > Applications > Unknown sources" checked? If not, that's probably your problem.
If anything, you could always just Odin KC1 instead. As what everyone has been saying, KD1 has a faulty system partition.
As for the 8GB sd card, Samsung decided to cheap out on the newer phones. All of them come shipped with 8GB sd cards now.
I would recommend odining kc1 for a fresh start plus you will have root. Then grab cwm final by krylon 360. Once you have all that up and running make a backup of the 8gb sdcard on your pc and format it inside the phone ,replace all the files you want plus the update.zip. reboot into recovery and see if you can adjust the mounts. If so now try flashing a rom. Most roms need the ext4 converter to install properly should it require this it should be stated in the op of the rom you intend to install if not read through the post a little to see if anyone else has had similar issues or had to use the ext4 converter. Hope this helps and you get things going for you girls phone.
Edit: also do not use rom manager as it is not for our phone yet.

i have tried and that wont work flashed kc1, i can now download and install apps but cant get in to recovery now
ok odin'ed KC1 cant seem to get into recovery, i have tried to root explorer push the recovery file into system>bin wont work, i have also tried to reinstall via update.zip from the stock recovery and that wont work either.... very frustrated atm... going to sleep if anyone could help it would be very much appreciated, thanks
What do you mean it won't work? did you make sure to press the mount r/w button before pasting the file? If there is an extension in the filename, remove it. And you don't install the update.zip, you just place it in the root of your sd and leave it there.

Is your recovery file named "recovery.bin"? If it is, you have to rename it to just "recovery". It won't overwrite properly if you don't do it that way. Maybe you should try using another root explorer. I use Super Manager and it works perfectly. Be sure to enable root function and r/w mode though.
What do you mean that you tried to reinstall via update.zip?
EDIT: Seems like jager555 beat me to it.
Also, you could redownload the recovery file and update.zip. Who knows, something might've happened during the download process and messed it up.

thanks for all the tips, while using root explorer it was in r/w mode and the update.zip i use so CWM works, on my phone sometimes it will go into the stock recovery (blue in color) i got to the second option reinstall pakages and it will do a quick flash and boot into CWM recovery (yellowish in color) im now running CWM red on my phone so its not an issue but cannot seem to get it to work on the GF phone, i have tried everything i can think of and followed all the tips here and still cannot get it to work
leave your sd card and sim card out of the phone and odin to kc1. when it is complete, let the phone sit for 10-15 minutes. put the sd card in and then redownload krylons cwm final and move the two files to the right locations, making sure they are named properly and you OVERWRITE the files that are already there. once it is done, power off the phone, remove your sd card and do a full format. when this is done, put back the update.zip on the root of the sd card, put on the ext4 converter, as well as icbinb. these are the only 3 files you will need right now. start up the phone by pressing the 3 button combo and go into the orange cwm final. wipe cache and factory reset. check mounts, flash ext4 converter and then flash the rom and reboot. im not sure why your cache is the problem. you can try to odin to kb5 and see if that gives you different results. but if that doesnt work, i dont know what to tell you.
