[Q] - General Questions and Answers

Need to root... i'm going right??
My Kies page says this about my Samsung galaxy s2:
PDA:KI8 / PHONE:KI2 / CSC:KI1 (HUI)
I've found in the forum this cf root "CF-Root-SGS2_XW_NEE_KI8-v4.3-CWM4.zip"
May i use this cf root on the device using Odin, or it's not good for my device? thanks in advance to anyone who may help me.

This need to be in the Q & A section in Galaxy S2 section look there and you will find the information you are looking for. But, one hint Kies is not used. In fact I have not ever used Kies.
Either way go to your phone specific forum look there to find your answers
Good luck!

[Q] Confused!!!!

I am a total noob..sry folks but there are so many forums that it only confused me more. I just bought a While Samsung Galacy S2 from Sprint.
Model : SPH-D710
Android version : 2.3.6
Kernel version : 2.6.35.7-SPH-D710.EL29-CL852097
My question should I be looking for information on rooting the phone in the Samsung Galaxy S2 4G.
Also can I get simple instructions on how to root. The couple of stickys on this forum say, you should have root.....
Just want to start from the basics,
1/ how to root the phone
2/ install Odin (or is this used only for rooting)
3/ CWM mentioned everywhere what is the purpose and when do I install
4/ I would also like to try the new ROM's
5/ How, when and what to use to backup the original phone before attempting the above.
Hope this does not sound so stupid, I will continue to browse the forums.
Thanks.
First I wouldn't flash anything from this particular forum as this is strictly for Samsung galaxy s 4g phones NO OTHERS!
FAILING TO HEED THIS WARNING COULD RESULT IN A BRICKED HANDSET!

How to Root Samsung Galaxy SIII

I am struggling to root my Samsung Galaxy SIII version 4.3. I cannot use a PC currently and tried using Towelroot but it said it doesn't support this device. I tried using master root but displayed a purple box an didn't respond. I also used Z4root but that didn't respond. Any help please ?

Which carrier variant of the S3 are you trying to root? If it's the Verizon variant I would recommend checking out this guide on how to root Android 4.3 on the Verizon Galaxy S3. If it's not the Verizon variant I would recommend taking a look at the XDA Root Directory Samsung device section, and choosing the appropriate model Galaxy S3 you have which will take you to the correct rooting guide for your device. For future reference questions like this should be posted in the Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting section or your appropriate device forum Q&A section. Let me know if you have any questions I'll be happy to help you out .

sj420 is right, we really could use a reliable method for rooting our devices that does not require a separate computer... or am i missing something somewhere...

If you upgrade your device through the latest official OTA to Android 4.4.2 towelroot will work just fine to root your device. Otherwise using a computer is going to be your only option I'm afraid.

[Completed] [Q] Rooting my Nexus device "from scratch." few questions...

Hey, I recently got a Nexus 6, and instead of installing CM as I usually do, I'm going to try rooting and using Xposed. The trick is that I use Linux exclusively, so I can't use the one-click installers. It's a Nexus, so unlocking is a piece of cake, and I know how to use adb and fastboot to install a custom recovery.
From there, I'm not totally sure what to do. I downloaded the SuperSU zip from chainfire, which I'll install from twrp... Then... Do I need to install busybox or something? I guess I'll have to side load xposed after that?
Also, not sure what the update path will be after that. I guess rooting will break OTA... So what do I do?
Sorry for being such a newb! Thanks!
Hi
Thanks for writing to us at XDA Assist. You can find your specific device forum here (bookmark/subscribe this):
Nexus 6
All information for your device can be found within that specific device forum. Within that section you will find a dedicated q&a sub-forum:
Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
I'd suggest you do some reading in your device forum, see if you can find your answers there. If you can't find your answers go ahead and ask your question in the q&a section I linked you to just above, that's the best place for it.
Good luck!

[Completed] help with straight talk galaxy s3

I have a straight talk galaxy s3 (sch-s968c) and have no plans to upgrade it. i really like this phone. i got a samsung gear live as a gift and like it as well. after wading through forums for the last two weeks, i have managed to root my phone. now i just need simple directions on how to get the android updated to 4.3 or 4.4. either one is fine for my needs. i tried to follow some forum threads on how to do this, but they are usually too vague for me to accomplish it. help. please.
Hi, thank you for using XDA Assist. The best place to get help is the device's specific forum here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3-att. They are the experts on your device. Your device is a variant of the S3 so you may have to work a little to find the answers you're looking for. But here are some tips:
You can usually find stock firmware for Samsung devices at Samsung-updates.com or sammobile.com. They are flashable in Odin. Always backup first, off your device, before using Odin
There may or may not be a root method for 4.3 or 4.4. Root exploits are generally patched with each new android version. Check in the forum I linked you to.
Don't be afraid to ask questions in the threads you've found. They are the experts. At XDA Assist we have good overall general knowledge but may not have knowledge specific to your device.
Good luck!
