Update errors - Thunderbolt General

When I first received the most recent thunderbolt update my phone ran like crap but better then it was. I had to factory data reset it in order for it to run the way it is supposed to be with the update. So anyone having issues with the new update. Suck it up and rest the phone. Make sure to back up contacts all of them out of market apps. After the reset and put everything back to the way it was before I have not had a lagging issue yet.
T-bolt.

Im stock and still having Sense reload issues which slows down the TB after the 2.34 update. I emailed HTC and they told me to clear data for Sense or do a factory reset. Cleared Sense data and that was good for about 2 weeks. Looks like the dreaded factory reset is the only solution. HTC doesnt seem to have another fix for it. I asked. lol.
Helps to use a launcher instead of sense also.

You can always root and add this line to the bottom of your build.prop file:
ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1
It should force Rosie to stay in the memory so it won't have to reload.

[Q] (REQUEST) EPIC 4g Issues

I wanna know is how in the hell to fix this issue. It's annoying enough to make me want to go throw my phone through a Sprint store window. Anyone have any ideas?
com.android.mms has stopped
com.handcent.nextsms has stopped
com.android.phone has stopped
The radio resets, the wallpaper and other settings reset. This mostly happens while texting. It's not Handcent cause it does it with stock texting and with Chomp also. This started to happen with the first update. Samsung and Sprint still will not update to 2.2

If you are still running stock ROM and Kernel, back up everything and do a factory restore/hard reset. If not, use Odin to go back to 100% stock and try again. If you are still getting these FC's, you're best bet is to take the phone back to Sprint and tell them they f'ed up.
I would suggest what thomas just suggested. Sounds like you got a bad install. Start fresh. If problem continues I would return the phone. 2.2 is coming and it wouldn't did this problem since its unique to your phone and like I said it sounds like the update install correctly. Most likely an error on your part

I havent actually done anything to the phone at all. Just let the normal updates install. No rooting or anything else. Someone at Sprint said it could be an app that doesnt like the most current version but I uninstalled one by one and still have the problem. Right now it's running 2.1 Update 1 Build DI18 It never did it until the updates started coming.

About had it with this phone

I bought my Captivate on 12/13. For the first 3 weeks I had it I had almost no problems with it (other than the usual GPS issues). About 3 weeks ago I rooted (1-click Root), installed the 1-click decripple, SGS Tools, Titanium Backup and OCLF and removed some of the bloatware, but stayed with the stock ROM. Got some noticeable improvement as far as Quadrant benchmarks, but about a week after I did all that the phone started freaking out. I had my first of 2 unexplained shutdowns. Simple things, like receiving calls, would lock the phone up. Then I started having force closes when I tried to use a speed dial. The past week the battery has been doing strange things like losing 60% charge over 4-5 hours without using the phone for anything. It will somehow go back to normal and work fine for 4-5 days. Today, the force closes and lockups started anew. Again, an incoming call locked the device. I didn't even know it for 3 hours when I turned it on and the clock was over 3 hours behind and the screen wouldn't take any input beyond unlocking. Reboot and later I tried to speed dial and back into force close loop. Reboot...still does it. Tried to bring up my contacts and get a black screen, eventually leading to getting kicked back to the Home screen. Obviously, the contacts issue is related to the speed dial issue, which is probably related to the incoming call issue since they all are tied together. But what could be the problem? I am so frustrated I'm ready to hurl this thing at a wall. I uninstalled OCLF and am considering an Odin flash to stock. Seems like the phone is really flaky when it has a full of >90% charge. Any clues?
I would start with olcf. The lag fix it used its not recommended and may be causing data corruption
I have said it plenty of times before, and I will continue to preach....I recommend flashing back to stock and master clear to troubleshoot. That will give you assurance that you will start on a fresh clean slate, as far as bugs/data corruption/bad configurations. Obviously you will want to back up all of your data first. After you flash back and master clear, don't do anything else to it other than installing regular apps from the market to see how it runs. If it continues to act up, then you know you have hardware issues. If it fixes it, then you know you had something going on with your config or data corruption.
Whats your build number? If it is one of the 1007 builds then you may be able to get a warranty exchange for the reboots.
Getting noticeable improvement as far as Quadrant benchmarks go doesn't always = better
Here's the really odd thing, pulling the battery and rebooting seems to clear the issue for a few days. A plain reboot won't. I alternate between 2 batteries, both OEM. I've never cleared the battery stats. Could it be an issue with one or both batteries? It always seems to happen shortly after taking the phone off the charger.
If you haven't already, you can try recalibrating your battery. But the route I would take is flashing back to stock using odin one click. It doesn't take very long and it will rule out alot of things

Yup...I agree...and I would start with a 100% clean slate..and not use any data from any previous time..Flash a good kernel..a good modem..apply the gps fix of your choice..and enjoy..Trying to use parts of a stock rom..is self defeating...wither or not you get uber high benchmarks or not...You may want to stay with some type of stock build..but you IMHO your better off going with a I9000 rom/kernel/modem...Anything that is even close to stock AT&T is junk as far as I know.

As soon as I have a few hours to spend redoing all my data, apps and info, I think that's what I'll do. I already downloaded the 1-click Odin OEM ROM. After flashing Odin do I have to redo the JH7 OTA update?

What if there's something wrong with an app I installed that is causing the problem? Wouldn't reinstalling my apps with TB just bring that problem back?

It really doesn't even take a few hours to back up and restore. I have an 8gb external sd card full of music, photos and videos and over 200 apps stored internally and it takes me 10-15 mins if that using titanium backup pro for apps . You don't have to restore jh7 but it might be a good idea to do so if that's what your phone had out of the box.

Typically restoring normal apps you get from the market will not cause you grief. But what can cause you grief is backing up and restoring mods, system data, configuration data etc. The goal is to create a totally unhacked unmodded totally stock experience to isolate and possibly identify what could be causing problems

and OCLF.... dont forget that OCLF causes PAIN!
I need my phone tomorrow for work, so I'll settle for just uninstalling OCLF for now. Maybe Friday or Saturday I can sit down and "go back." I don't remember if the phone had JH7 or if I updated it OTA when I first got it, but that's what it has been running almost since day 1. Is there an Odin for JH7?
No there isn't but heres a thread on how to install it...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790080&page=20
You will need to download jh7_ota.zip.
Basically, after you flash back to stock, you have to install clockworkmod recovery, place the zip file on your internal memory, boot into clockworkmod recovery and choose to install the zip file. I actually did this the other day to see if it actually works, because my phone came with jh7 out of the box.
PS...if you kept the box your phone came with, it will show near the barcodes if your phone came with JH7 or JF6
Box says JF6, so I must have upgraded it. Don't remember doing it, though. What's wrong with just using the Odin for JF6 and letting the phone do the OTA for JH7?
One click lag fix sucks.

ALOT of FC's whatever i do out of the blue..

Hi!
Am i alone or have someone else likewise problems with fc's no matter what you do?
Today i got this problem just out of the blue....
Have you changed "Scenes" or the "Skin" on your phone? I had tons of FC issues when I changed to a different scene, and had to do a factory reset to fix it. Not one FC since.

Nope, non of the above... think i must to a factory reset ... bah! i was just starting to enjoy my device. Even though it backup it self and restores alot from market, it's just half my setting
Hope this is a one time thing.
eh ... did you factory reset in the bootloader or within the sense?
Come to think about it, i've just changed my ringtone from zedge today.
If you do perform a factory reset. Don't jump right in and reinstall all of your apps all at once. There's a good chance that you installed something that hosed everything up. Install your apps on a need be basis. I've seen it time and time again where one app screws everything up. Android gets the same bad rap that windows gets. Windows is actually a very good OS, people just abuse the hell out of it and blame MS.

I think i want to agree with you, yesterday i activated this and then my problem started all over again.
What i remember it was an system app that made the fc and it was java related and something about memory exhausted.
I kept sending thoose reports all night to get their attention
I'm not 100% sure, but now when i saw your note here it can be true.
Is it possible to have this account at a manually update to get rid of those fc's?
Or must i delete the account...? I reinstalled the device for the seccond time yesterday because of this

[Q] G2X still automatically reboots after gingerbread update

I am totally new heree and not sure if this is the right place to post this. Please bear with me.
I updated my G2X when the Gingerbread version first came out. I just noticed that it still automatically rebooted itself twice last night while I was reading. The G2X was right nest to me and I heard the T-Mobile tone while it rebooted. Has anyone experienced this? I thought this update shall fix this bugging issue. I also notice the battery drains faster. Anyone knows how to root it after gingerbread update? Thanks.

Yup, go to the privacy menu and use the option.
The simple act of doing a reset does a lot for a smart phone.
I had an Iphone 3g where after 4.2.1 the solution to speed was to do 2 factory resets in a row.
Some people will return a laptop because they don't want to do a reboot.
------------After the reset, go to the marketplace and the first thing install the T-Mobile My Account app. The original version is problematic and can lead to buggieness

If you return a phone to Tmobile before doing a factory reset to see if it solves your problem then you simply don't value your time. A factory reset takes all but five minutes. If you call Tmobile you will have to wait for them to ship you a phone, and when it arrives it will be in "factory reset" condition anyway. If you go to a retailer and pick a replacement up, it too will be in the same condition. So if you are going to get a reset replacement, everyone would be wise to try a reset before rushing to Tmobile.
I had the same problems with GB after the update- I didnt do a factory reset though.
Moved to Eagles Blood and seems like a much more stable and cleaner rom- havent tested enough to see if it reboots or not though.
To root, flash clockwork mod recovery using nvflash and install a rooted rom. There's a rooted version of gb stock out there, or you could be adventurous and install one of the many custom ones we have.

Return your broken phone ASAP. Phones should not randomly turn off or reboot. It is broken. Do not try to fix a broken phone on your own. It will result in nothing but headaches. Take it back now!
Yeah my replacement phone still randomly dies, I'll come back in a few hours and have to do a battery pull. It doesn't reboot like the old one but it does die more.
Should I get the replacement replaced?

I ran Xboarders OTA GB with no tweaks since it came out. I then switched to EB 1.07 and had a ton of issues. I then returns to Xboarders OTA tweak and it was flawless. Now I am on to Weapon G2x.
Like I said, I really think a good scrub down and wipe, i.e. factory reset does wonders, at least folks should give it a try.
I absolutely agree that theres a good, actually great batch out there, I have NEVER had a single issue with my phone and its bone stock on 2.2.

[Q] razr maxx hd constantly freezes and restarts after 9.18.79 update

I installed the 9.18.79 update on my rooted with stock rom razr maxx hd. The only change i made to stock apps was the sqlite tether mod hack. I used voodoo ota rootkeeper and it worked fine, so I still have root. I do not have unlocked bootloader. Anyway, after that update, it keeps freezing and restarting. Doesn't matter what app, every 5 min to half hour, even when i'm not using the fon it will restart. Very annoying! Is there a fix for this or a way to uninstall update?
If you unlocked your bootloader I would say a factory reset would be worth a try. This way your phone is refreshed to pure stock. You will lose root but with an unlocked bootloader that doesn't matter because getting root back is easy.
If your bootloader is still locked, a data reset will cause you to lose root (edit: after posting this i am second guessing if a data reset will lose root. It might not. It had been so long since i have done that i can't remember. Lol) and there is no confirmed way of getting it back. Of course, if your phone is basically unusable with constant reboots, I think I would rather have a working phone without root than what you are currently dealing with.

It's not unlocked and the update fixed the exploit to unlock it I didn't think I needed it unlocked anyway. I just wish I knew if vzw or a dev will come out with a patch for this so called update.
Mine is doing just about the exact same thing. I upgraded it on Saturday and it has rebooted more times than I can count. I hogs battery now too. I could get an easy 3 days before, I am no power user, the last 2 days I've used over 50% battery and have not done a thing. I used the OTA rootkeeper as well to keep root. I hardly have any apps frozen with Titanium Backup, unfroze them all, I'm running Nova Launcher. Funny thing is I did the exact same thing on my wife's phone with no issues. Hers is rooted too, stock ROMs. I was totally happy with the stock ROM, so I have not ROM'd this phone yet, want to now cuz it sucks but going to have to wait until I can root again. I tried wiping cache in Titanium and a couple times in the stock recovery. Did nothing.

Wife says she has had problems keeping her bluetooth connected in her car, she said it disconnects frequently now. She just has a stock Lexus radio which worked flawless. DAmn you Verizon, these phones were AWESOME prior to this update, burn in hell haha!
I wiped cache in stock recovery as well
Is there a way to sbf the original stock file back to the fon? I've used sbf on a number of droid x but thats been awhile.
I have the exact same problem as OP, but the period between reboots can be as high as 2-3 days. Anyone have any idea what is actually wrong? Did they program in a random reboot to make us want to upgrade to the Droid Maxx?

No, a FDR does not remove root.
Glad I have not updated yet. Matter of fact I froze the updater so it won't update.
well if fdr won't lose root with locked bootloader, i might try that, tho i'm pretty sure it won't help.
Well, I just did the data reset. Didn't lose my root. Reinstalled all of my apps with Titanium and will see if the lockups go away and if the battery life gets back to where it was prior to the update.
Still freezes and reboots. I guess I'll start removing apps and widgets to try and pinpoint. This sucks, was such an awesome phone prior to this ghetto upgrade.

I've deleted all widgets and still froze and rebooted. So, I ditched Nova launcher and went back to the stock launcher and so far so good. I'm having random freezes after the update. No reboots. I'm 100% stock. This is happening at least twice a day. Does anyone have any idea what's going on? Is it the update because I never had this issue before the ota. It also seems to happen after or during a call.
mcaspe1, I feel your pain. There is a utility on here to go back to 9.16.6. I did that and my phone is back to being awesome. I also read a thread over on droidrzr or something like that where you can use RSD Lite to flash the new radios, which I did too. FYI I called Verizon this morning and the phone has a factory 1 year warranty. I *****ed about the battery life and the constant freezing and restarting with the new software and they are sending me a new phone. If you don't want to mess with the utility to get you back to the old stuff, which is SUPER EASY, then call Verizon and tell them the new update version you got sucks ass. It could not have been easier. Note, if you didn't do a factory reset they will tell you to do that first.

Thanks for the info. I tried deleting a few apps which I thought could be causing it. If that doesn't work I'll definitely either flash back or call VZW. Thanks again.
Here's the link to the utility to get back to the old software and to root it, did it 3 times so far now! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2307439 I did options 1 & 3.

Already got the notification from Verizon that my replacement shipped! I hope it still has 9.16.6 on it so I can unlock the bootloader after I see the shenanigans these new updates are doing to phones!
Before I started all of the flashing, I tried going back to stock launcher, unfreezing every app in Titanium Backup, killing every widget, clearing cache, and a factory data reset. I flashed back to 9.16.6 and it was all good for a few days, so took the update and it started locking up and rebooting again within 10 minutes of constant use. Must be something with the hardware that update doesn't agree with on some phones, because I think flashing the stock 9.16.6, then taking the update, and only installing tapatalk from the market and still having lockups, ruled out any apps I had running. The sucker would freeze when trying to set ringtones and check system versions and using chrome and tapatalk.

Well, Just had another freeze and now I'm fed up. Nothing I've done has helped. I'll revert back so I can have a working phone. I called and have a replacement coming. Thanks for the info. I have posted on the Motorola owner's forum regarding this. They are now aware.
A fellow poster, "Bertil", on the Motorola owners website has indicated they believe that turning off smart actions and clearing the application will stop the screen freezes. Says its been a week without any problem. I figure I'll try it out until my replacement comes tomorrow. I'll report back.
