[Q] My Sensation's Battery life is too short. Any Resolutions? - HTC Sensation

Recently, when i have been using my Sensation im only getting 12 hours of lite usage before the battery drops from fully charged to 35% This wasnt happening before and i have no idea what the problem could be. Does ANYONE have any solutions to this problem? Here are my specs:
rom: ARHD 4.1.3
kernel: Faux123 0.22-10
battery: Stock
My WiFi is off and my GSM is on

Well, I did experience increased battery consumption relative to other ROMS out there when I was in ARHD too.
I would suggest getting juice defender, buying an Anker battery, and flashing another ROM if you desperately need more juice.
And if you dint feel like shelling out extra money, then charge your phone to 100, reset battery stats, and go through 5 full discharge/charge cycles and see if that helps u out.

[Q] Best Rom Desire S. Battery Wise!

What is the best ROM for Desire S in terms of battery.
I used virtuous unity 1.29.0 and it's battery backup was quite good then my original ROM.
But after updating to new virtuous unity 1.31.0 the battery backup goes quite bad.
Anyone know a good battery backup ROM for desire s?
Calibrate your battery, really works!
Instructions:
1. Turn your phone on and charge it for 8 hours our more
2. Deplug charger, turn your phone off And charger it fit one hour
3. Turn your phone on, wait 2 minutes, turn your phone off and charge it for one hour
4. Turn phone on and your battery life should be much better now

Don't forget to sacrifice a virgin and hire a shaman.
Cmon ppl! Li-Ion and Li-Poli batteries do not require forming (yeah its forming not formatting). Ni-Cd and Ni-MH were the types that required this.
In extreme situations (charging over 20hrs) you can even damage/reduce capacity of your phone's Li-Ion battery.

I'm saying that the type of the battery used in Desire S is not formable. Additionally in extreme situations you can damage it by overcharging it. This is more complicated, because it also depends on the type of charger, and charging hardware in the phone.
What DesisreS says looks exactly like forming process, hence my response.
What you (possibly) can do, is calibrate your device/os to properly read battery status and use it more efficiently. But this is done through some software tricks I don't know.
Our battery is smart.
Overcharging it won't do anything. It just cuts off the electricity when reaching 100%. Full voltage is around 4.2V. If you look at your voltage while charging, it's already at 4.2V at around 70%. I have no idea why it does that.
And at 0% it's not really empty. It still has around 3.5V. It gets dangerous at 3V where it won't be able to charge again.
Just clear your battery stats in recovery or use an app from the market and see what happens.
Read and search around the forum for more info.

You can use the app called battery calibration from the market for the calibration
Charge battery to 100% & run the app
This does not increase battery life but helps the OS read the battery more accurately & this needs to be done after installing a new ROM

Uhuh, this is what I mean. But lets go back to the original question, what are your experiences with different ROMs and battery life? I'm going to be Desire S user soon so I'm curious too.

LeeDroid ROM. Offers great battery life and very close to stock ROM. I got 1/2 day use on stock ROM with heavy use when I first got it, then put leedroid on, now I'm having 1 full day heavy use before I have to charge my phone (15%)
(Includes a lot of syncing, WiFi, web browsing, music, games etc the whole day)

Battery Draining Really Fast.

Hello,
I'm getting sick of my Sensation. I'm using the stock ICS rom with Sense 3.6. Radio:11.22 HBoot: 1.27.0000 With 2 Anker Batteries (1900mah). I just downloaded the battery monitor widget and I saw it was at -407ma!!! But it's dropped to around -161ma. I usually maybe if I'm lucky get 4 hours out of it? I really want to fix this. Tried many other roms but still the same. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Lachy

wiping battery stats will do no good..
What is your screen time? And do you make sure to turn off GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, and disable auto sync when you don't need them? You can also try flashing other roms and different kernels

I assume you're already rooted coz you mentioned that you've tried many other ROMs? Do let us know what kernel you're using and some details such as the governor, tweaks and OC speed that you're using. Perhaps you can start by installing CPU Spy from the Play Store and let's see whether it is reporting that your CPU is getting deep sleep when your phone is idle.

Yeah it sounds more like a wakelock issue so you should look into that ^
And sorry I didn't see you had tried other roms

Hi you know what helped me? I got a different long lasting battery! Now I don't worry about battery drain any more. I bought one of the big boys a 3600mah battery. It solved my battery problem! I bought it from mugen. Finally, I can use my device without worry about the battery! Downside is it does make the phone thicker but with this battery life it's so worth it! 19 hours heavy use and still have 42% battery left! It's been awesome! So if your sick of the battery drain, I suggest you get a extended battery. It does the trick! No more constant charging! Best wishes

That much battery drain across different ROM's with 2 different batteries screams hardware problem to me.
Is the device getting REALLY hot? Even when idle?
I'm thinking there's a short somewhere that's causing the drain. I can't be positive without looking at the device, but usually you'll see that kind of battery problem fix itself with a new ROM or different battery.
It's also possible that you got bad batteries. Did you buy them from some random discount store on eBay? Those tend to be crap if you aren't getting them from a reputabel seller.
I agree with above post always buy your batteries from good seller like mugen

Terrible Battery drain. Help?

Hello,
I'm getting very terrible battery drain. It is fine when on standby. Ranges from about -3ma to about -20ma. But when in use it does sometimes like -500ma. I've just wiped battery stats and did a full discharge and recharge up to 100% without touching it. I'm using an Anker 1900mah battery. Kernel: Brick v1.4 Rom: Elegancia Sense 4 Hboot: 11.2

You can purchase a new extended battery.it SOLVED my problem with battery drain! Just make sure you get your battery from a reputable dealer. Too many counterfeits out their. I personally bought a mugen 3600 with new better signal back. Back includes antennas for good signal. I got mine from mugen, I can now use my battery ALL day and night without issue! I had tried EVERYTHING in the past to stop my battery drain, not much joy UNTIL, I got my new battery! I tried different kernels, settings , applications, but still had a issue UNTIL I finally replaced my battery! Now my problems are gone! The mugen is expensive but with this battery its really worth it! If you can't afford mugen try Anker. It's a whole lot less and still gives extended battery. It won't last as long as the mugen 3600mah but it sure will help with extended battery life!
The drain was my main issue!! After I changed batteries it was SOLVED! Don't buy off eBay , you can buy Anker off amazon, or mugen from mugen site. If you try all tips and tricks and still have your issue like I did. Changing batteries is the way to go. I can not stress enough how much it helped me! My battery drain was extensive! But now I'm using my device HEAVILY and can go well into my 20th hour with about 40% left at the end of 20 hours. That's a huge and significant difference for me. Before I could barely go three hours before charge! It's changed everything for the better for me! You really might consider investing in one for yourself! I don't regret it for a second! I really think it will help solve your issues. Once you get your settings correct, try all the power saving tricks. If still no joy, get one of these batteries! It will change everything for you! Especially the big boy, the mugen 3600! You won't worry about battery life again! And you won't regret your purchase! It will not disappoint! Best wishes to you and I really hope you consider my advice. I do really think it will help. I know it SOLVED my battery issue. Good luck! Remember to purchase from a reputable dealer to prevent counterfeit! If not the mugen, try the Anker. It will help. However if you can I highly recommend the mugen 3600 !its truly been amazing battery! They improved the back so no need to worry about signal! It's strong as ever with there new back. It does make your phone a bit thicker but for this battery life I'll take a thicker phone any day! You won't be disappointed!

Hey,
Thanks for the reply. But I bought the Anker from the seller on Ebay. That Anker have on their site. Plus I'm not willing to spend 100 dollars on a Mugen battery. It may make a difference but it makes the phone a lot thicker.
Thanks,
Lachy

Hi, I too get massive battery drain recently! I bought an Anker battery same as you from Amazon and contacted the seller, they are sending me a replacement so I will post back in this thread when I get it and do a few drains on it. I have had bad drain on CM10, AOKP M6, ViperS and CM9.
I'be been using Anker for more than a year and never had any problems with it. Imo there's a problem with yours, so yeah replacing it with new one should help, because Anker is a reaaalllyy nice battery

Had same problem, extensive battery drain for no visible reason whatsoever then i found a post on android central about Sensation and EVO 3D/4G having battery problem while switched to automatic network mode, both 2G and 3G, setting it manualy up to 3G only solved this issue for me, now Anker 1900 lasts about 2 and half day on standby. This did the job by me, so no guarantee that it will work by you, but its worth a try imho. Good luck
Alright.
Hey, thanks for the replies, what do I say If I want a replacement? I've gotten one before but only cause it was completely dead and not working/charging at all. So what do I say this time?
Thanks,
Lachy
Have you tried changing kernels? Or slightly under volting? It could help.

I basically said it was giving me false readings and it was impossible to know how much battery I had. I also said I used a bus app which used mobile tickets and before my battery lasted all day but now I have to turn it off to make sure I have enough battery to show my ticket. All of that is true btw, the seller I emailed on Amazon were pretty helpful, hope you have similar luck.

Alright. Will do. So if I say something like this. They should send me a replacement?
Hey,
I've recently been having a few problems with my anker battery, it's been losing a lot of charge while doing nothing. Just being on standby. It is also using a lot of charge while not even using it much. Most of the time it is only on about 45 percent by the end of the day with very light usage.
Is it possible I could get a replacement?
Thanks,
Lachy.
Something like that would work right? One quick question. When I get it I charge it up first then 4 discharge/recharge cycles right? Fastest way to do that?
Thanks,
Lachy
Yes and when you get your new battery you can drain it faster by watching video , playing games, pretty much any activity that's going to drain battery. Then charge to 100% without a break. Then do it
Again. Now that said, on my battery when I got it new it had calibration instructions, it said After discharge charge for full 12-14 hours even if it said full charge. This was part of the calibration technique.I'm pretty sure it would hold true for ALL batteries so after your discharge cycle you might want to charge uninterrupted for the 12-14 hour cycle then drain again and repeat 4-5 times. This was the instruction that came with my battery.(mugen) You might want to consider giving it a try and making sure the uninterrupted charge is At least 12 hours. Hope this helps and hope everything works out well for you. Best wishes.

Alright. I emailed them saying what I said in my previous post. Lets just hope I get a replacement. When I get my new battery I charge it to 100% then discharge or just start discharging?
Thanks,
Lachy
As I understand it, charge to 100 first then discharge, this is subjective. This was what the directions told me to do so I'm assuming it's correct procedure, although I've heard of others simply draining it from the start without charge. I would think the battery company knew what they are talking about so I'd go with charging to full first then discharge. I did this with my own battery and its worked out well. Best of luck to you! Enjoy your new battery!

You can also try a better extended battery. I was having same problem but got a better battery now my issue is solved. I got a extended 3800mah battery from mugen but if that's too big try Anker. Both are great batteries .I now get two days out of one charge . It's made a huge difference for me. You can find both batteries online. Anker is a whole lot less money and a thinner battery. But if you are a heavy user you might want to consider the bigger batteries. If you don't need that much juice go with Anker. Hope this helps.I know it solved my battery drain problem.best wishes!

use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1641605 and undervolt it to ~100mV or ~75mV
it makes a lot of differ in bricked kernel

I had the same issue on stock battery ( using vipers ). I had to charge it even two times a day. Could not watch a one hour video on YouTube (while brightness is set to max). Then bought anker 1900mah battery and my phone resurrected ! After whole day using battery still at 50&40 at midnight. I watch the whole episode of a tv serie on YouTube (almost two hours) and battery is still at 50&60 ! (ViperS 1.3.5) . When on standby battery drains one percent after almost three hours.
It's strange that you're having problems with anker.. maybe your battery have some problems..
Or you can change to ViperS just to experience if battery drain issue is still.

Have you tried using a extended battery?I was suffering with the same issue.I purchased a mugen 3600mah
and now with heavy use I can get two days out of my battery. I'd tried everything before to stop the drain but nothing was working. I tried settings, kernels, different roms. Still had the drain. This was really the solution for me! I'd tried other batteries but still was not satisfied until I got the big one. I can't stress enough what a difference it made!it did make my phone thicker but for' the battery life it is totally worth it! If the big battery is too much for you then try Anker it's a good extended battery. And it is not thick. A good battery makes all the difference ! Be careful when you buy because so many counterfeit ones are being sold. If you get a good battery, your not going to have to worry about drain .it solved my battery drain problem. You might want to try getting a Anker or mugen. Both Are excellent batteries.

Yep, totally agree with this, I can personally recommend the Anker battery. I now get 1/1 and a half days battery life with heavy use. The anker battery really isn't that much from amazon and is coming from a reputable source. I was also experiencing the same battery drains as you were before changing batteries.

i'm on fw 3.33 and i'm using arhd 6.7.2 with faux kernel underclocked to 918 mhz and undervolted -125.
what rom and kernel are you usin, to get good battery life?
Anker wasn't enough juice for me because I am a HEAVY user. This is why I went to mugen. I can confirm two days of use with heavy use out of the mugen 3800mah battery . I was more concerned about battery life than about my phone being a bit thicker so it did not bother me at all to go to the bigger battery. It solved my problems with battery drain and had proven to be a awesome solution ! I did have to save up for the battery because it is not cheap at 95 dollars. However honestly, for me, it's worth every penny. They have new backs now with better antenna and you don't have to worry about signal issues either. If your a HEAVY user I highly recommend this battery! If your a moderate user I recommend Anker. It's such a great feeling to finally not have to worry about battery life. Just beware of counterfeit and if you decide to order one get it directly from company because they're so many scam batteries going Around! They place a sticker over the fake battery making it look like its the real thing! With batteries you have to be really careful now. Order from the company when ever you order.

Battery too weak?

Hello XDA Community, i'm a HTC Sensation owner and i got it from service 3 days ago (the phone had really frequent shutdowns and the battery only lasted like 2 hours even without using it). Altough it doesn't have those problems i experience a really weak battery... As you can see from the photos i only had a 9h and 20 minutes lifetime from 100%, with only 2 hours and 7 minutes Screen On... Today i played games around 1 hour, used the internet 5-10 minutes , talked for like 1 minute and sent 5 messages. Is it normal that a 1520 mAh battery drains so fast?
I had the same problem when I first got my Sensation. Mine was used, so the battery was already a year old, but the phone was mint. I had the same terrible drain as you have, and I hardly used mine during the day. I rooted it and tried a few ROM's, and found that so far, anything based on Bruce's CM10 gives the best battery life. Will defiantly be try the Viper ROM today though.
If you don't want to root, I would pick up one of these:

I'm going to be trying one out myself.

I bought mine used too, it was used for 8 months, ill try to purchase an anker then... Thanks!
Hi I had same issue, tried Anker it was a good battery but I still needed more juice . I went to Mugen 3800mah battery. Now with HEAVY use I get more than 24 hours use out of one charge! I can't stress enough what a difference this battery has made for me! Yes it is expensive but for me it was worth every cent! I am a heavy user of my device and rely on it for everything from navigation to internet to gaming. This is a serious battery , it solved all my battery drain issues ! One thing through, it does make you're device a bit thicker but it still fits in pocket and feels good in my hand. For me, battery life is what I'm after so I don't at all mind the thicker phone I'm not in a beauty contest, I wanted results! This battery delivers. If your a moderate user you might not need so much juice but if you're a heavy user like I am this battery is the answer! It will not disappoint! If you find Anker is not providing enough juice and want more time on battery, do consider Mugen 3800mah. You won't worry about running out of battery Again! This battery with HEAVY use will still be on 100% two hours later!! My biggest issue was battery drain and this battery solved that problem for me. Like I mentioned its not for everyone because it will make device thicker but if you're serious about battery life it's the way to go! So depending on your use this might be an other option for you. If you use your device heavily, I highly recommend this battery. Best wishes to you!

Thanks for the tip... I'm not such a heavy user of my phone but atm its still unbealiveable short on it's life. If i would take it out of the charger at 100% and play 1 and a half hour it will get to 1%...
Have you gave Anker a try? Most people here really like Anker and its given great extended battery. It's very affordable and I think it would be a wonderful solution to your issue.battery will make a big difference. You will see. My stock battery was absolutely pathetic. After I switched it was like night And day a huge difference! I believe Anker is only about 10 to 15 dollars and you won't regret switching. This is one solution to your issue. Best wishes. You can also try changing kernels and see if that helps but I think a Anker battery will really help in your situation.

Just thought I'd put my two cents in...
Whilst a higher capacity battery will help to some extent, IMHO it's like buying a bigger hose instead of fixing the hole in the bucket.
To clarify, I do actually own an Anker 1900mAh battery as well as the stock battery, but only because it was cheap and I was interested to see how much difference it made. I switch between the two on a regular basis. I can't deny the Anker certainly has a better cycle length than stock, but as I was already achieving well in excess of a full day's use on stock battery the benefit to me was negligible.
Another clarification, I'm not one of those people who will refuse to use their phone all day and then crow about their "amazing" battery life. You buy a smartphone because you want to use it. Mine is a work phone and as such is well used every day, making/receiving calls and texts, camera shots, VPN access etc. Then there's my personal use, web browsing, eBay, bluetooth audio every time I get in the car or work truck, e-books, games and so on. Not to labour the point but the phone comes off the charger at 6 am every work day and always has some life left when it goes back on the charger at 10 or 11 pm.
I guess, partly because of what I do for a job, I'm not a fan of "bigger hammer" solutions. There is a wealth of information here on XDA and you can greatly increase your battery life and cost you nothing but a bit of time spent reading. For a start I'd suggest looking into Battery Monitor Widget and/or Better Battery Stats (this thread).
I don't know if you're rooted or not, there are huge gains to be made with rooting and the possibilities that come with that. However, my wife's completely stock One S had absolutely atrocious battery life out of the box, and of course no possibility of increasing battery capacity, but with a few tweaks and better understanding she can still get a day's use out of her phone.
Sorry for the lengthy reply, but I see a lot of "get a bigger battery" responses to these questions when there are other options you can explore
