Pretty newbie question, but does anybody have any idea how to install it onto wp7 phone? I downloaded it from the website but I'm left with files I don't know how to install.
Anybody know?
Thanks.

Well, you're right ... SlideIT is for Windows Mobile 6.5 / Android and not for WP7...
That's probably why I didn't understand how to install it. LOL. Thanks.
Is there an alternative to it currently?
I think at the moment it's impossible to change the SIP on WP7.
But there's tons of exciting developemnt around native things going on, so maybe the future will bring alternative keyboards...

Hi all, these PDA gadgets is all new to me so I thought I would start with something quite cheap (in case I am too thick and cannot follow)..
So I got this XDA but i can't really find any use with it.. Most webpages i come across saying that its in-compatible and also the pre-loaded MSN messenger saying that it won;t work with that version( then why on earth is that pre-installed?) also the webmessenger again is not working... nor the ICQ... So.. what exactly can i do with it??
bit fustrating really..
Sorry if my questions have been covered but doing a search and seems that everything is too techy like different ROM and things that I do not seemto understand too well..
Thanks in advance..
ms have a update of messenger which is required
to be installed because the version of messenger in the rom
is OLD
re webbrowser.
Use a new browser, ou multie or tweak2k to change broswer's 'id' so it's seen as internet explorer for compatibility.

hmmmm.. ok ... cheers for the info.. now the next question is.. How and what do i need to update??
which Rom can help me to browse?? Also i guess there is no way out about the messenger then.,...??
thank you
as i said ms have an update you have to run to get messenger working
if you get a newer rom it may not be necessary though
can you tell me if that update is downloadable and where??
or what is the version called?
thank you so much
it's always the last place you look

Im looking at cooking a Rom for myself based on all the available Roms, cabs, etc... my question is if there is a way to cook a rom and view it on your desktop instead of flashing it on my Tilt... my main reason for asking this is that I really dont understand what all the different packages look like or add to the overall look of the cooked Rom... Id much rather put something together and play with it on my desktop instead of flashing the Rom over and over until I find something I like... any ideas? thanks

Very good idea, but I've never heard of anything that does that - the only way to test a cooked ROM is to flash it to a phone & see what happens.
There's a programme which emulates WM devices so you can run the OS on your desktop:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...A5-183A-4A1E-A7E2-CC500ED1F19A&displaylang=en
It only takes the OS in a certain format though, and i wouldnt know how to convert HTC-specific roms to run with it.
Edit: here's version 2: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...53-f231-4a64-a648-fea5e7061303&DisplayLang=en
jpofsc, let me know if reonan's link worked. I'd like to get my hands into rom cooking and this would be a safe way to test roms without flashing to my phone.
I don't think it works
I've been trying to cook myself something this past week and things aren't really going the way i'd like them too and i just tried using that and it doesn't work unless i'm doing something wrong

like to know what they're using and how they got it working.
Work make things a little easier when trying to develop a ROM lol
That would be awesome. Just like Virtual PC or VMWare.

Same as: My Mobile (My Mobiler)
a quick google and i came up with this wm emulator
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=A6F6ADAF-12E3-4B2F-A394-356E2C2FB114&displaylang=en
i think you should be able to use this for our devices. i havent been able to find an emulator for the tytn yet
The MS Emulators are not hardware emulators.
They basically provide a generic WM6 virtual OS that you can deploy software to. It is a software developer's tool.
I don't think you;ll find what you're looking for as it would have to know how to pretend to be a KAiser by using the exact drivers that a Kaiser depends on etc.
Hi All,

Unhappy O2 Customer
Myself and my partner also recently updated our roms on our O2 Xda stellar, The flash went well for both of us, it was the after effect of realising there is no sliding home screen with the O2 release of this rom.
Im going through every file on our phones trying to see if its just hidden?
but so far nothing has turned up.
If anyone has managed to find a way to enable the sliding home screen please will you get in contact with me and post it here for everyone please.
Thank you

Hello there
I understand that the sliding panel home screen is available on non-touch smartphonedevices, although you may read it as a realse component of WM6.1. Bad wording I guess as it is a little confusing.
Regards.
Thanks
Thank you for the fast reply,
I feel slightly cheated by this but hey thats the way it goes. it would be quiet difficult for it to work with the size of the screen on the stellar but it would still of being a nice addition.
Thank you again for the response.

Well, to be honest I replied to this as I too was wondering where this feature was.
But hey, look at it this way, you have not lost any features!
In fact, since I got my XDA Stellar in nov 07 I have been using SPB Pocket Plus which offers more flexibility than what I believe Slidin home offers. Check out the Tabs on which you can add any file, program or even a whole plugin as I have the HTC Home plugin.
I've not seen first hand what Sliding Panel is like but Im very satisfied with this set up on mine and maybe this is helpful for you in achieving the same flexibility of customisation and personal taste. All of what you see is just from Pocket plus being ticked in the today screen items collection list.
Ok stupid question as there doesn't seem to be a manual for this on the XDA site.
When installing this, does it over-write any files? ie am I going to have to re-install and re-configure all my software? I just want to know before I do this while away from a net connection.

installing what? a program or flashing a rom?

I'll try this later tonight - I presume that with a rom upgrade all installed programs will be wiped. Whats the best way to save the programs so that I don't have to go through installing them again (if thats possible)

Indeed...everything is wiped and all the data too.
I used SPB Backup which worked well in the end. I made a few mistakes during the restore process that made it much more of a time consuming headache than it should have been but I think I got back to where I want to be. Ringtone assignments and contact picture assignments were not restored but that may have been my error rather than the fault of the software.

Sure, I have backup software, but I shall look at this as an opportunity to flash and re-install. Had just better make sure I do all required syncing first

The new ROM. On the O2 site it implies it won't nuke your stuff. Sure it says...
In order to ensure that important files and data do not go missing from your Xda during the software download process, please save them to your PC first before you begin. You'll then be able to reload them onto your device after the software download process is complete.

but that could be read as it might go tits up and break your files, but you'll otherwise be ok. It also doesn't mention 3rd party applications.

Whenever you flash a new ROM the handset gets formatted. Any data on the handset will be lost. If you want to keep anything, transfer it to the memory card first......
Hey guys,
Can someone tell me how to get this program on my Wizard??? I've read up on the site and I still don't understand how to use it.
It's funny how some complex things I can understand easily while easy things like this I can't!
Anyways, let me know.

Download the cab version and place it onto your wizard using the Activesync, then once on your wizard, start the cab file, this will then install it.

Have a read guys
Man thats some sweet stuff in there.
It would be great to have some of those made as tutorials (as one you did to install new rom).
But, thanks to you many people enjoy theyre phones so thank you.
Hmm, I just want to share the softwares I install on my smartphone, how could that be a tutorial?
How do you play Scrabble on a Tornado? I have the Handmark Scrabble application, but it doesn't work well on my phone because it looks like the game was designed for a landscape phone, but the Tornado has a portrait screen.
It seems like it, I realized it after I posted the guide. I have all the while installed it, but never executed the program
Nice stuff!Thank you very much!
