As the title says Maybe we can use the kernel or other things

So what type of modifications would someone have to make?
*****I'm a beginner ROM Developer, so don't forget to thank and donate*****
Phone: Sidekick 4G
ROM: FreshBlood ROM - Beta
Kernel: Bali 2.2 /w Voodoo
That is a completely different phone with completely different guts, the sidekick is closer to the epic 4g (same processor, ram) than 2nd generation galaxy phones which are dual core with a gig of ram, nice try though
so can we use the vibrant source or sgs 4g source codes?

No, we have been over this and nothing has worked
Sadly it is still a waiting game
The SGS4G will work once we get the source for GB, the problem is that there's no source so we can't add any drivers for our extra hardware, so nothing works. technically the SGS4G kernel boots on our phone, it's just a matter of adding drivers. but that still requires the GB source for their kernel.

Is there a voodoo kernel for 2.3.4 available or in the works?
Sent from my SCH-I510 using Tapatalk
No.
In order to put voodoo into the kernel, the developers need the source code for the 2.3.4 kernel. That source code hadn't been released yet.

How is it that people can put make kernels for 2.3.4 then? I am having an issue with getting service with such kernels.

not true, but it makes it much harder...also hacked voodoo kernels arent going to be as good obviously as a true source built one with other optimizations put in

you can do certain things to the stock kernel, but others (bln, overclock, undervolt) you need source for...thankfully supercurio updated voodoo control plus ($4) for fascinate gingerbread (idk about charge)
Hey guys,
I know we have been using mocked up kernels for the sense 3.0 shoot ports and they have for the most part been stunning. I see HTC release the source code for the kernels for numerous recent devices
http://www.androidcentral.com/htc-r...ncluding-evo-3d-sensation-4g-and-incredible-2
Not sure if any of this could be helpful in building a more stable kernel. If it is and any of the Dev's come up with a new one and need testing, send me a PM and i will be glad to help.

The only kernel source of real use, or that we can really use at all, is the Thunderbolt kernel. Until we get a GB kernel source release, nothing great will happen.

"This is a minimalistic Thunderbolt kernel based on the HTC Desire HD source (ace-2.6.35.10), then upgraded to 2.6.35.13. It also includes some code from 2.6.36.x and 3.0rc6 (that's right you read correctly). A lot of the mods in my kernel are fairly experimental and not typically done by other kernel devs, so I would not get too upset if things don't work sometimes."
From Imoseyon's GB Sense kernel thread. I'm not really following what you're saying here.
I just got the Captivate yesterday and I'm in love with it. I've been modding my Backflip for a while and I'm fairly certain I know what I'm doing. I've been trying different ROMs and I've currently settled on a rooted stock 2.2 ROM.
I want to change my kernel though, so I put my phone in download mode and flashed the Galaxian kernel via Odin, it finished and then my phone started boot looping. So I one clicked it and tried again with SGS flasher, boot loop. One click restored, tried with CWM, boot loop.
I've also tried Talon, Speedmod, Setiron and a stock kernel with all 3 methods. Nothing will flash without boot looping.
That kernel is designed for reoriented i-9000 roms

What about all of the other ones that were supposedly for 2.2 ROMs?

It needs to be a true captivate 2.2 kernel a lot are i9000's you just need to read the op for whichever kernel you are looking at thoroughly. 90% of the time the dev states if its an i9000 kernel.
The speed mod kernel here, forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893880 SHOULD work just make sure to wipe cache and dalvik cache in recovery after install and it should boot.

You will have to read the description in the first post on the kernel you want to install, and the kernel you were installing was a gingerbread kernel

Yeah. You were trying to install a gingerbread kernel on a froyo ROM. That won't work.
Thanks guys! I think I downloaded the wrong version of SpeedMod the first time, it worked this time. Firstly I didn't know that the difference between i-9000 and i897 meant that much. Secondly, I'm not really sure how to read the kernel topics, they're confusing to say the least :S.
I'll learn sooner or later but thanks for your help everyone.

Yeah some are very confusing the biggest help Is to learn the difference in firmware revision codes. Most captivate roms/kernels begin with k. like kh3, kf1 that sort of thing and from what I remember j is for I9000 eg jv1 etc...

Anyone know if SGS Kernel Flasher plays nice with the I727 SR? I recall seeing it worked on the OG GS2 I777, but know the I727 is a different hardware platform. Anyone flash a kernel using SGS Kernel Flasher on the SR? Thx
Answered my own question... downloaded/installed SGS KERNEL FLASHER to my SR... but when I tried to open the app, got this error: "Error: The flashtype of this device is not (yet) supported!"... in case anyone else is interested.

READ BEFORE FLASHING
This is for use on SGH-T989 ROMs, mainly for unlocked users running a T-Mobile sim who want the full T-Mobile experience (such as Wifi Calling, ect)
If you are like me and unlocked your AT&T Skyrocket for use on T-Mobile, you probably want a T-Mobile native ROM. The problem is when you flash a kernel designed for the SGH-T989, your orientation gets messed up.
If you flash a SGH-I727 ICS Kernel over the SGH-T989 ROM, your orientation works properly again, but your camera may stop working, and your HW Accelerated videos (such as YouTube) may invert their colors.
The SGH-T989 kernels work perfectly on our devices with a SGH-T989 rom, with the exception of the orientation issue.
This kernel is a modification to faux123's great ICS SGH-T989 kernel, simply to restore proper orientation sensor values on our I727 device.
This should allow you to enjoy a SGH-T989 ROM with proper orientation, working camera, and normal colors on videos.
However, this was only tested with the SGH-T989 UVLE1 Infamous Resurrection ROM (v1.0). If you find any issues I may have missed please let me know (preferably with a dmesg and logcat), and I will try to fix them.
If this kernel has helped you, please hit thanks. Also be sure to thank faux in his thread.
If you want to donate, donate to faux. I'm not accepting donations for this kernel, as it is just a few patches to his hard work.
Version History:
zefie-mod-v001 (git-c7f41c504cea05d18fe02b45d9ec590676eb2803)
Based off of faux123's SGH-T989 ICS v011 kernel (including OC)
Orientation patched for SGH-I727
Hardware acceleration working
Both cameras working
Volume pre-amp boosted (from SGH-T989 defaults to SGH-I727 defaults)
Boot animation support
Enabled additional governors: brazilianwax, intellidemand, lulzactive (ondemand is default)

Sorry, its not a 'file', but a patch to the kernel code, so you will need to flash the kernel I posted. The kernel should work on any Samsung Based T989 ROM.
Will it work with SKY ICS?

This is meant for I727 owners who have unlocked their devices to use on T-Mobile, and want a T-Mobile (SGH-T989) ROM for native T-Mobile features such as Wifi Calling. It is not supported for SGH-I727 native ROMs. It may or may not work, but I will not patch issues related to I727 based ROMs.

zefie thank you really for doing this kernel or modifiend it as im using this kernel with the rom that you have on your signature and a Telus Modem for t899d(something like that) and my phone was hitting almost 10mb down and 1mb-2mb upload.
:highfive:
