List Of All Thunderbolt Problems Since Launch - Thunderbolt General

We all know the thunderbolthas been plagued with problems since its launch. First the launch date was delayed. Now the GB update that has been delayed for months gets released and pulled immediately due to more bugs. I have read about people who complain so much that they are given free replacement phones of their choosing. I would like to do the same and try and get the new nexus phone. So I need your help with making a list of all the thunderbolt problems since launch so I can make a good argument for why I should get a new phone. Thanks guys!

Just to add my 2 cents
You have to remember that as with most forums, you usually only see the problems and not the ones with good units and that one or two people talking in a forum thread or maybe a handful of people posting multiple threads can make it seem alot worse then it really is. I have never had an issue with my bolt since getting it on launch. I was first on line at bestbuy and it has worked great since the moment I activated it.
Also the launch was not delayed. Neither HTC or Verizon gave a specific date on release. Everybody was basing the release off rumors and a mistaken bestbuy ad...

when you say 'new phone', are you trying to get Verizon to allow you to exchange your TB for something else?
if so, that's not that hard. you just need to call and complain a few times(bring up battery life & call quality - data speeds couldn't hurt to) and after a few calls & complaining about how you wish you never got this phone they should offer to exchange it for you so long as you got the phone somewhat recently.
if you bought the phone back at launch though then the most they would do(other then offer a warrenty exchange) is allow you to get a different phone at the upgrade price instead of full retail, then you'd still have your TB to sell on craigslist or something.

I can tell you right now, no amount of *****ing will get you the Galaxy Nexus.
And if you don't actually have any problems with your phone, and are just *****ing because you want something free, you should head to wall street, I hear a lot of that is going on there.

Good luck is all i can say. I went through 3 Droids and 4 droid 2s, and an iPhone (on their suggestion) and STILL had to pay full 2 year contract price for the T Bolt. VZW isn't like att you barely get anything for free EVER

AT&T has to give things out for free just to get people to stay on their inferior network. Verizon knows if you leave, you will more than likely come back at sometime after you get fed up with inferior service lol

"I deserve a new phone because forum members are having these problems which makes me unhappy with my thunderbolt"
Yep, sounds like a GREAT idea.

The thunderbolt was the best choice at the time and I don't see any reason to change it now. Nothing newer is too much better. I think the bionic looks and feels cheaper and that's before you consider the locked bootloader... major con for me... the grass ain't always greener. Just sayin.
My name is Revos I'm a recovering flashaholic running Liquid Gingerbread 3.0

Charge would be nice, but if I want one bad enough ill buy one. Trying to get one for free is lame.

You need to stop believing all the internet crap you read. I've had a couple of phones that were FAR, FAR worse than the Thunderbolt and I never got free upgrades to replace them. The people that say they did probably took an early upgrade on another line. I ended up going back to old phones with the POS devices. So yeah, if you think I calling them liars or misrepresenting the truth, that's EXACTLY what I'm doing. And I know for a fact none of them can prove it.

The ONLY reason why they gave me a bionic is they tried to charge me twice for not returning a defective device two separate times. Even then I had to fight them for it, first they offered to pay my data for a month. I guess their logic was "sorry we tried to steal $1200 from you, here's $30".
There was no early upgrade or anything, I told the guy to just cancel my contact. I had no intention of canceling, look what else is out there. If you really think you can get a free phone just because of the issues you've had with it good luck.

That's certainly above and beyond a few complaints about a device that works otherwise! Wow... That's pretty screwed up.

Problems with the Thunderbolt (STOCK)
Now granted i dont know if verizon has pushed any radio upgrades, i do that myself and the first radio upgrade i got fixed my issue.
1. GPS takes forever to lock. I walk in with a friend tried to get him a discount and showed him how MY thunderbolt wil lock in seconds where the thunderbolt, charge and nearly every other android phone they have took over 5 minutes to lcok (i never locked before we left).
2. Battery life on the stock is disgusting in comparison to clean ROMs. (my opinin you shouldnt have to root the phone to get all the specs to work correctly)
thats really all i can think of.

My main issue with this phone is battery life when on a sense based rom (any sense based rom sucks battery life a really fat guy with a milkshake), but I have an upgrade on my account and am definitely grabbing a nexus when it comes out

Lol its dumb but its life. I dont support it nor am i against it. I had HTC Touch Pro 2 i had for over 2 years. It was a fantastic phone for the era that the Iphone came out. Sure apps were very very few and far between but being able to get ROms that were similar to HTC's 2.1 or3.0 was awesome. The only problem i ever had with the phone was i was plagued with BSOD's constantly after unlocking. But as we all know its based on the phone you get, my brother and sister both had them and were unlocked overclocked and had 0 problems...again i know where the guys coming from we all play the system at one point or another to get what we want. He was just a little more blunt about it than most people would have been. Next time bro just be a little more incognito about the whole idea behind it. Its like Backtrack. Its a tool to "test your wireless security" and you know 80% of the people that use the tool are not testing their secruity with it.

It's threads like this that made me remember why I left in the first place. I had hoped things had changed... guess not...

It Was Fun While It Lasted. 3 Devices Later Same BS

Should i give it another go? I have 12 days left from purchase date and ive been thru 3 devices all with diff issues or old issues plus some. Im pass irritated. Never dealt with this with any device. Im bout to throw in the towel. Think ima get a.full refund tomorrow. Sucks because I actually like the phone.

If you're that irritated and you think you should get a full refund then you should get a full refund. Not sure why people love to make posts asking what they should do lol. If you're not happy with it, then you're not happy with it. If getting a refund is what will satisfy you then do that. It isn't divorcing your wife, it's refunding a phone. It really doesn't have to be hard at all.

Well, for some divorcing is easier than parting with gadgets they love ...but seriously, as long as you don't have any backlight bleed issues, y don't you wait n try out the cm7 or other roms and hopefully the gingerbread update will fix a lot of sw issues.

i have very minimal backlight bleeding. in two corners but real minor. not like my 1st which look like the whole screen was bleeding through.
I don't see how people are so unhappy with the phone. I have backlight bleeding as most people do, but it doesn't bother me at all. The screen is plenty bright for me, crisp enough for me, definitely fast enough for me. And I've owned quite a few phones, this is by far the best. I would exchange the phone 5,000 times before I picked another phone on T-Mobile.

did you pay full price or get a contract. yeah this is the best phone but everytime i turn around its something software wise thats making the phone less of a powerhouse. never had so many hiccups with a device and i've owned plenty. personally im tired of constantly running to the tmobile store to get a new one and it has the same things wrong with it.

Agreed I think ill just keep returning g2xs till I get one that isn't as bad as my last 3.... Charlie you should do the same I mean the HTC sensation looks retaredly close to all of there phones and the sgs2 Will have some Samsung flaws... don't give up.... fixes will come and once better more stable roms/kernel's. Come out you'll fall in love with the phone all over again just like I did with my vibrant!
If you really have that many problems tell T-Mobile and they will give u some sort of retention

I paid full price. What issues are you having? Either I don't have them, or they're not that big of a deal to me. I got a bad HDMI cord that friend my phone so I have a replacement coming, and am only getting about 6 hours max on my battery now, and I'd still use this everyday, as is, then go back to my MyTouch 4G.
I say that you should keep it. It is a great phone, and I am very optimistic about all this issues getting resolved. the most annoying to me is the battery drain. I would like it to at least last for a day with basic usage, like Phone calls, text, web-broswing, games. I mean i use my phone a lot, but my SGS4G seemed to last longer than this one.

..........
The date floating around for the Sensation's release is June 8; that's only five weeks away. If Gingerbread's not out before then and it doesn't address some of the phone's flakiness, I'm getting the Sensation. The screen shots of the baseband in the Gingerbread preview thread show it to be the same that we have. Maybe LG can correct some of the issues via SW but I'm thinking some of the problems are in the radio which may not be fixed via the update. I like the G2X but constantly dealing with connectivity (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and 2/3/4G) issues is getting old.
God I love this phone and I have 2, no issues.....
Had a n1 and vibrant still and this kills it....
This forum seems crazy to me cause I think this phone is perfect..
I feel your pain charlieb620. I purchased this phone and was disappointed by the number of software(?) bugs I encountered. As I posted on T-Mobile's forum, I returned the phone, but they charged me a restocking fee (wtf?).
As BarryH_GEG said, some of the issues might not be software and I didn't want to be stuck with a device to find out its a radio issue.
I hope you have better luck getting a full-refund for this buggy device.

It's Been Fun, Getting a SGS2

Call me old fashioned, but I expect a $500 device to work out of the box. It's also been pretty sad watching everyone's desperation in either getting a stable CM7 build or a kluge of the Gingerbread pre-release to try and make all the phone's functions work properly. I've been pretty vocal about my dissatisfaction which I know has irked some of you. There were others, but they already bailed when their remorse periods ended so as we all jump ship there should be fewer "haters" and nothing but the positivity you seek here in G2X-land.
I was going to wait until 6/8 and get a Sensation but the phone re-booted in the middle of conference call to Asia and that shall we say was the end of that. I'm getting an international SGS2 instead. It'll arrive next week. It's an HSPA+ phone so it can do 21MB down on AT&T. To get on to AT&T's network I'm getting an Infuse 4G for $99 on 5/15 which I'll eBay for $400 easily. I'd be lucky to get $300 for the G2X once the Sensation's out and the comments on this forum certainly don't help the resale value. The SGS2 is $725 so the net after selling the Infuse will be $425 - $75 less than the G2X. I also won't have to be dependent on any carrier any longer and will get updates directly from Samsung.
Unlimited voice, unlimited messaging, 4GB of data, and tethering is $99 a month and AT&T has terrific international data plans when you're roaming where T-Mobile has none. Also, I'd rather pay $8 a GB if I go over my limit than be throttled to dial-up speeds by T-Mobile. My relationship with T-Mobile's always been love/hate but the G2X did me in. I'll still lurk and comment on this thread and if you have any SGS2 questions just ask. Also, modding may not be a dead horse. Paul posted the SGS2 firmware this morning.
See you guys in a year on AT&T-Mobile
P.S. - Gamers beware of the SGS2, it's been determined the Mali GPU doesn't support x-frame

Thanks for posting your life story. Did you really need to type all that just to say you were buying the GSII? Nobody cares how you are going to acquired it. I am getting the GSII aswell but you don't see me making posts about it. I'm thankful that I got a working G2x from day one because I can tell you right now. Its the best Android device I've ever used. I haven't had a single problem with it. Lastly, every phone has problems when its released. If you don't think so then u haven't been in this game long enough. The G2x wont sell for anything less due to these forums. I think your giving these forums a little to much credit if you think they a driving phone sales on eBay down. LOL...where do you guys come up with this stuff?

Yea that gpu is going to bite a lot of gamers in the ass. This is why the SGS2 was never an option for me. I'd love that screen paired with a tegra but I don't see it happening soon.
Tegra looks like the most future welcoming chipset IMO which also deters me from the Sensation.
Sorry to see you have so many problems but you do what you have to do. I always have low expectations of stock rooms although the 2.2 stock did run great for me. I flash not to fix issues but to flash. I actually have more problems running custom then stock but that's half the fun because I know that it helps to get to that point we all would like.
So while a slight backlight bleed isn't viable for some, a gimped GPU for locked boot loader isn't for me. Aside that, the rest can be fixed and patched. That I can handle.
Also, good luck getting anything out of Samaung. Those guys never update their phones. Gingerbread was promised last august and they still don't have it.

I never said u weren't experienced in the phone world but if you are then you should understand no device is perfect within the first month of being released. Christ, my Vibrants GPS was never perfect and I used it for 8 months. I just don't understand why people are expected to get a perfect device when they buy them as soon as they become available. I got my phone on 6/19 so I have a lot of history in this forum. I've posted lots of positive comments which still hold true. I like the phone's form factor, I like the way it's built, I like not having a UI, and it's fast as hell. I get a new phone every few months. I've never had a new phone that didn't have bugs - to your point, it's to be expected. My issue with the G2X (and I know there are those with different experiences) is that the basic connectivity functions are unreliable, at least in it's current state. The LCD does kind of irk me, especially since the iPad2 announcement, but I could have overlooked that. It's a pain in the ass to change carriers and swap out the phone so soon and I really wanted to like/keep it. But I can't wait weeks/months for it to be 100% stable.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. If you want a phone that isn't meant to be tweaked then you are better off with an iPhone. You will never be happy with any android phone because android is meant for people who want to personalize and make their device theirs.
The g2x is a guiness world record holding powerhouse. It doesnt help your case to write a pompous and useless post.

Why do you need to wait weeks? Just keep exchanging it until u get a working phone. It really is easy. I promise. I also get new phone ever couple of months and I've had to exchange everyone I got. That's exactly why I always purchase at a brick and mortar rather than online. I don't know why your living with a phone that doesn't work but I wouldn't stand for it. Go exchange it and hopefully you get a perfect one like me. Only took me 4 exchanges to find a perfect one. Lol

One thing is forsure, there will always be those that have a bad experience with a device no matter how super, duper, incredibly awesome it may be. Looks like you're one of those who will go down as having a bad experience with the G2x. You aren't the first, you won't be the last. And you can bet your ass there will be plenty of users over in the Samsung forum having the same frustrations with their SGS2's that you had with your G2x. That's just the way it goes with these things.
When I first got my Droid X I had a lot of problems with it. It took me a while to figure it out... it was my first Android device so I had to learn everything from scratch. But I finally got it to the point where it was a flawless device (all it was missing was an unlocked bootloader) for me. But that wasn't the case for every DX owner... plenty of the members of the Droid X forum took their device out of the box and the damn thing worked flawlessly without them having to tinker with it or do anything at all in order to 'fix' it. It might have been a little hard for me to swallow since I was experiencing so many random reboots, terrible lag, and constant freeze-ups... but it was true all the same. My poor performing DX was the exception, not the rule.
Same thing goes for the G2x. This time I'm on the other side of the fence (thank God). My G2x doesn't have the LED bleed issue, or the rebooting issue, or ANY issue for that matter. It has worked flawlessly right out of the box for me. And it's only been available here in the states for 3 weeks, so if there are still a few bugs to work out of CyanogenMod7 for it, that certainly isn't the end of the world. Nine months after getting my Droid X (at launch) and CM is nowhere on the DX's radar, and likely never will be. So just the fact that CM7 is working at all on this device is more progress than I was able to get out of my Motorola the whole time I used it (I still have it, just in case someone sneaks the bootloader keys out of Motorola HQ's I'll be first in line to beta test CM on it!).
Anyway my point is, if you like a device enough you'll stick it through the rough spots and see if you can't get it to work well enough for you to enjoy it. If you don't like a device enough to do that, then get another device, period. No need to explain yourself, you're a grown ass man. You can buy an iPhone, Win7, Blackberry, Palm... hell even a dumbphone if that's what you want. If it's a SGS2 that you want, go for it. I hope it makes you happier than this device obviously did not do.
But going out like you chose to do isn't going to go over well, I'm sure you understood that when you were typing that post out. What are you hoping to accomplish here, do you think you're going to convice those of us who are having a great experience with our G2x's to suddenly realize we got it all wrong? Should we all pack our LG's up and throw em on ebay pronto now too just because you didn't get along with yours?
No OEM is perfect, but for what it's worth I respect LG and Samsung the most out of all the manufacturers because they both refuse to give into the pressure the carriers have been putting on them to lock down their bootloaders. HTC comes in third in my book because while they do lock their bootloaders, at least they don't encrypt them. Basically they play both sides of the fence. They lock the bootloader to make it look like they're on the carriers side. But they don't encrypt them because they know that hackers will easily unlock them and still be able to develop on them at will.
What I don't get is your statement that you'll get your updates from Samsung... since when has Samsung rolled out updates in a timely fashion? For me LG is my top choice because they left the bootloader completely unlocked, and they left it vanilla Android. It's basically a Nexus device. Samsung would be my second choice since they don't lock their bootloaders either, but I'd have to get rid of touchwiz the second I got it.
All in all, I hope you have a good experience with your SGS2. No need to attempt to make us feel stupid for keeping our G2x's though. If we like our devices, why can't you just leave this community and wish us the best so that we can do the same to you?
Its safe to say Barry that no one cares. See ya

Really? Um...good luck with the SGS2.
Wow. This forum has become the dear diary of threads. I guess since the galaxy is almost a $1000 it won't have issues. You said you doubt the g2x will be worth $300 when the sensation comes out. Lol that was a insult. I guarantee the g2x will have more support and roms than the sensation. How can Cyan develop a rom, when he said himself he won't if it has a locked bootloader. I like what the galaxy can do but once it launches in the US and carriers strip it down like the original it wont hold its international value. Ill ride it out with the g2x. I'd rather return until I get a close to perfect instead of paying mortgage prices on a phone.

LG confirms update is coming for G2X, stops reboots/freezes - also Gingerbread...

Probably the single most informative thread I've read about this phone ever.
http://www.lgforum.com/forum/boards...-issues-where-is-our-update-in-the-us-for-g2x
Look at the responses from the LG Pro guy and the Moderator. They outright confirm there's an update that fixes the issue - one guy already has it on his phone and it's stable. Then the other guy says Gingerbread build is almost done so they were going to wait to release update and bundle with Gingerbread. All in all, it's a total clusterf*ck BUT...BUT at least they are giving information. Most companies wouldn't have said anything.
Now that I know this, I am more willing to deal with any reboots/issues - let's hope we don't wait long. The post says maybe 2 weeks.
My local T-Mobile reps say the software update is supposed to come out end of summer...
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I wouldnt fully trust what they say on those forums. If they do roll out a fix soon, it probably wont include gingerbread. Gingerbread will probably be rolled out closer to mid summer according to my sources. I guess that LGs and Tmobiles meaning of soon doesnt mean anything. I just try to keep my mind off of this issue but but its difficult to do that when the phone freezes and reboots. LCD bleed I can handle.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Let's be frank, the T-Mobile reps are unknowledgeable at best and flat out misleading at worst. I want to preface this by saying I've had absolutely no problems with my G2X and it's from early March. This includes no battery-drain issues (battery lasts around 20 hours with moderate use, which is fine with me), no GPS issues, no random freezes or reboots, and only minor light bleeding that doesn't bother me. I love this phone.
That being said, at least half of the people that bought this phone are having issues. If it's really going to be the end of Summer, T-Mobile really screwed the pooch here—and it is T-Mobile's fault, not LG's. Let me state this again, if you're pissed off at the G2X, complain to T-Mobile. The above thread outlines very clearly that LG knows there's an issue, has fixed the issue, and is being held from releasing said fix by T-Mobile trying to strategize a release date.
It's really obnoxious that people complain about LG being to blame for everything, when very likely T-Mobile rushed them into releasing a phone before they could iron all of the software bugs out just so they could claim to be the first carrier with a dual-core phone and is now holding up the release of very critical fixes.
That being said, if you're having issues with your G2X, instead of coming to xda-developers and complaining about it, hop on Twitter and let T-Mobile know you're pissed. Don't just threaten to bring the phone back: link to the LG thread and demand to know why they're preventing LG from releasing the patch. Even if you hate the phone and intend on returning it, there is clearly an issue with T-Mobile delaying the release of updates the phone manufacturers have ready and it's something they need to be told is unacceptable.
I've posted on T-mobile's Twitter about how the fix is available, but T-mobile refuses to release the patch. Lets spread the word and Hammer their twitter page with that information.

T-mobile rep here
you have a great point, it was most likely T-Mobile (NOT the reps) that rushed the release of it but does not mean LG isnt completely innocent either. So please if you do want to vent/complain about the phone do so by contacting "T-mobile" directly and not taking it out on the reps. As far as labeling the reps "unknowledgeable at best and flat out misleading at worst" does not go for ALL reps. I know im not the typical rep but i started out with smartphones a few years back with the Cingular 8525, flashing roms for a couple years now, I follow all the tech blogs and majoring in Electronics Engineering, currently in my senior year. In other words, I know my stuff. t-mobile tries their best to train us on most subjects but of course we are not Cellular phone engineers at the end of the day. Last time i checked my tittle was RETAIL SALES associates. so if you need help with buying the phone and some info/differences about the phone, that is why we are here. We dont have a direct communication line with the manufactures, so i dont know why people expect us to have all the answers. not trying to bash anyone just thought the reps should have a small voice in the matter

Would you believe it.... I turned my Nexus One on to get it ready to sell it...and I just got and installed the ota for Gingerbread 2.3.4 LOL now if only for my G2x.....
I think both Tmobile and LG are at fault for releasing a really buggy phone; hardware and software. Also, the only phones you can count on for getting updated are the Nexus phones. However, im happy with my G2x and coming from the more stable G2, i still enjoy using my G2x more. I have faith that several of the software issues will get fixed eventually. If not, give the cyanogen folks some time and im sure they will cook up a stable rom before the official gingerbread arrives.
You all say blame tmo for pushing lg, but lg released the O2x and it also has the same basic issues right and that was released prior to the G2x.

If they don't push the update out soon, I'm returning and getting myself a blackberry pearl flip phone. I'm jk. I heard the next google phone is going to be manufactured by LG? Will it be called the Nexus 2x?

The biggest problem no one has pointed out....
This is basically confirmed to be a hardware/software issue, and it does basically affect all G2X phones one way or another. So how on earth are these issues never brought up in "professional" reviews. So this brings two disturbing facts. Tmo/LG cherry picked working phones for the reviewers and packed the failing phones in boxes for customers, or the reviewers were shills or they were lazy turned on the phone, saw it was basically a super-powered Nexus-ish phone, ran a couple Tegra games and just went by the specs for the review and never actually tested the phone. No matter what the case, it's disturbing. I'm on my 3rd g2x, and miss the stability of my Nexus One (I still have it, but really want the G2X to run at LEAST as well as my Nexus One.
Hell when I got this I was hoping to have a smooth experience with Live Wallpapers, but it was just slightly less "jerky" then on the Nexus One...I was sad...
This is the most stable phone I've had and I've had many...
No reboot issues here, and I've had 3 different ones.. Phone never freezes, slows, reboots, lags etc....
Sorry you all are having bad experiences, but every phone forum has complaints and people claiming the phone is plagued with bugs..
Well, not me and I have had it since release....
I'm calling user error lol j/k but damn if yall just had my 3 different ones you would be in love..

I didn't have a single lock-up until I went to a 2.3.3 ROM. And now I'm getting them... Sooo, I could just go back to stock and fix it.. but I don't want to to. I'd rather post another post about how my phone locks up.

I had reboots and was forced to do a factory reset 5 times until I started to flash nightlies. Now I get no reboots at all, though the battery issue is still unresolved...and I can't use wifi.
Robbing Peter to pay Paul, it appears.
I would have to say that my unit has been amazing. I traded my nexus s for this current unit and I have flashed TW B2 rom before then and after no freezing, reboots, and it has light LDC bleed. The LCD thing dose not bother me and I can only expect the best for this device!

[Q] TMo's announcement GB update coming "soon"...?

I do not live in the USA and English is not my native tongue. Could someone with good English knowledge explain to me the definition of the term "soon" in Tmo announcement regarding the GB update?!?!?
Thanks everybody!

Soon means whenever they get around to it. Which so far has been sometime in May, "Before Summer", this summer and prior to armageddon.
There really is no way of knowing until you wake up one sunny day and find that you have a notification that you have a software update.
Hope that helps
Replies in this thread should be interesting.
Soon in this case means, whenever t-mo decides it is ready to release.
**** in one hand and wish in another, see what fills up first.
What they said...
If you have a G2x, your best bet would be to root and then flash a rom of your choice. Then wait till TMO does release the new software and it's massaged by our outstanding devs.

Yes I live in Europe and I got a G2X from the USA and I pray to God everyday not to have any issue with the phone before this "soon" update arrives to fix all these bugs people complain about. I rooted it and run it on EB 1.05 for me works perfectly!, up to now at least!
I used to be up in arms about the update, but now that CM7 is basically stable, everyone should just run that. Arcee has done an incredible job with it.

Thanks. Does CM7 have any known issues? Does everything work? I heard that the thing with this update is not the GB itself but LG drivers which should fix the issues. And since I live in Europe I have no way in the world to send my G2X back in the States to get another one if this one freaks out.

The battery drivers are fixed with CM7 and the only thing that doesn't work is A2DP, so if you need that, flash EB.

I'm sure everyone else's reply will be far more helpful than mine. In the US, where we tend to legalize almost everything, soon means, we are working on it, but can neither confirm nor deny an actual release date. Soon means, yes, we have a release date, but will not publicize that date, because if something goes wrong and we miss the date, everyone on XDA will sue us. So, soon means, soon, the near future.
To some, soon means tomorrow, or next week. To others, soon will always mean, not soon enough. To me, I received my phone on June 13th. I still have alot of time before soon becomes worrisome to me. Others received their phones in April. Soon has a different meaning for them.
Suffice it to say, LG had a plan when they released this phone. Most likely that called for a summer release of GB. To me, it very much looks like, they are still on track for that release. Whether that meets others expectations of 'soon', hard to say. You can debate the merit of whether speaking plan truth or being vague are the proper courses of action. I will instead remind everyone of some historical events that illustrate what I am saying.
Years ago, Microsoft promised to release their Operating systems, when they are done. Eventually the big joke became, by how much they will miss their release date. Virtually every program they released, missed the estimated release date. The public outcry, was tell us when, then just release it. Microsoft eventually shifted their style of this, and announced a release date and promised to hit that date. And they did. The public outcry was, how can you release something that is not finished?
Though almost everyone agrees there are things wrong with the G2x, by industry events, its probably no worse than many other releases. There are MANY people that claim no issues other than perhaps battery life. If the truth ever was realized, problematic devices most likely range in the less that 5% range. One needs only visit forums of similar devices to realize that whats going on with this device is going on with other devices. This device is no better or worse than others...except for 1 thing...you own this device.
I suspect LG had a 90 day window for the update plans, which puts it around the mid July range. One of the forum members very nicely predicted July 17th, several weeks ago. Most of this is all industry standard.
Is 90 days soon? Is it soon enough? Or is it totally unacceptable? Soon enough, people will read this post and tell me I don't know s**t. But its too soon to tell about that. Soon I hope to be able to eat Breakfast. But no matter what, we'll soon have our answer. But, will it be soon enough?

Do you think couldn't they have just waited a bit and in stead of Froyo released the phone with GB right away? Is it just the urge to be first dual core on the record at all cost no matter what, or is it normal? Just to say, I am totally satisfied with my G2X and I do not regret getting this phone.

I like you alodar1. I usually agree with most of what you say.
But I call BS on this part of your answer.
There were two different threads that took polls. One ended at about 2 out of 3 bad before IT closed and the 2nd was at around 1 in 2 last I checked. Even accounting for the oft posited fact that most here are power users and that's why they are here complaining, that's a LOT MORE than 5% bad.
I take issue when anyone tries to say that there are not real problems with most of the G2X's.
You may think I'm a whiner or I returned my phones for no good reason (I know better), but there is no changing the fact that I got four bad. Some were way worse than others, but they all had real problems. My last one seems great and my daughter got a great one from the get go. But there are a lot more than 5% of G2Xs that are bad.... a lot more. A lot of other people beside me are on their forth or fifth one. Others like my daughter got good ones from the get go.
I'm a fan. I am not keeping my Sensation. It cannot compare with the G2X. But I believe way more than 5% are bad.

Smart and business needs are usually 2 different things. Could they have waited? Maybe...but LG is a big company...they probably had this release scheduled for several months. Would it have been wise....maybe...but consider testing resources and planning to get to a release, and look at the other phones in their release lineup....you might realize that there was no room for to wait.
Years and Years ago, my wife argued against me getting a computer....wait she kept saying. One day are argued and ran out and bought a 386. She didn't say a word. But the next year, the 486's came out, cheaper than the 386 I bought the year before.....and she said to me...see, I told you.
Thing is, she's right, it was better and was cheaper. But that kind of arguement never fullfills itself...because there is something new everyday.
We take our phones to heart...they are an investment and we want to believe we make the best choices for us. When it looks like maybe we didn't, we spend time justifying why we did something. Thats where expectation gets in the way. We pulled the trigger and got what we got. After the remorse period, it was ours...most people, for 2 yrs..while the contract runs out.
But we can only expect companies to what is right and best...we know that their interests and ours are different. Should they have waited?? Why? They just released the Revolution...and the Thrill is coming out next month. waiting for the G2x would have only delayed those releases.
Remember, the bottom line is not quality and satisfaction, but rather, $$$.

A2DP is Advanced Audio Distribution Profile
A Bluetooth profile (mode) for streaming audio, such as from a music phone to headphones.
Compared to profiles such as Headset and Handsfree, A2DP supports stereo audio, and is one-way instead of two-way.

I think we're on the same page, whether you believe it or not. If we took a poll of how many power users are on XDA it would be a high %. But, LG did not only sell only to XDA members.
We will never know the actual number of G2x's sold. Nor will we ever know the actual number of bad devices. We can only go off of what we see in forums and reports around the Internet. I recognize that many or the reports are 'retweeted' or reposted from single sources, making a problem appear more prevalent than it actually is. If we were talking about Paris Hilton or Lindsey Lohan, the term would be sensationalism.
The bottom line is I would never indicate to you that your problem is trivial. Its your problem and its important to you. Period... But in the same aspect, don't trivialize my point that there are many people without problems. This does not make your issue less important.
I have read virtually every post and poll here in this forum. I beg to differ. From my reading, for every How many people have a problem device poll there is, there is a poll that says, how many people do not have a problem device. Its this type or realization that helped make my choice to buy this device in the face of the reported problems.
My 5% number is an off the wall number. What ever industry standard is for a definition of a problem device, should be used. I simply do not know what that number is. But I bet 5% might be high. I also bet that the G2x did not hit that number. I bet that LG recognized a problem with the release and took steps to fix it. I bet that is why we see Temporarily Out of Stock on the TMO site. I bet they have figured out how to solve the problems and most of the problems are software based....or, they would not have stopped most of the replacements from going out. I bet the G2x is still and will be a defining device in the lines of the Nexus one.
If my statement in any way painted you as a whiner, I apologize. Certainly not my intention. But I do realize that people get tired of others saying they have problem free devices. Just as they get tired of people saying, they are on their 4th replacement. At best it should be a wash. To me...I wonder...why did my device turn up ok...and yours did not? To me that is a mystery. There are good devices out there...why the difference.
I used to work in Mobile Device support. I used to take great joy in working with my friends and their phones. If they have a problem, I'd give them steps to fix it...and just watch them do what they were supposed to do...and 9 out of 10 did not follow the steps I gave them. Does that mean they are wrong? Or my instructions were bad?
On the Dell Venue Pro forum I worked with a guy that had HUGE problems with his device. I had him send me his device when he was in a bricked state. I had his device working in 5 minutes. After a few hard resets, I was satisfied the device was ok. I used his device for 24hrs and did NOT experience a single problem. I sent it back him. Within 24hrs he was complaining. Why?? This was a device I had in my hand and actually used as my own ....and an hour in his hands there were problems???
does that mean he did something differently than I did? Does his body chemistry short out electronic signals? Is he an undercover alien that is incompatible with Dell Mobile devices?
Who knows...but my phone works...many phones work. If the number of bad phones was much higher than what I said, I guarantee the response by LG would be different.
No way is it just 5% bad, it HAS to be more.
My wife and I both have "bad" phones, and if the chance of getting a bad phone is 5% (random distribution), there was 0.25% chance of us both getting bad ones.

I completely agree with you. But if it is really true that there are so many issues with the phone it seems to me quite incredible that they did not notice at least some of it before it went into stores.

Makes you wonder doesn't it. Could they have possibly ignored all the issues? Is their testing standard, not catching the issues? Or of all the devices they tested, did the issues not show up?
First time to this forum I searched for an issue list. I went down the list. After reviewing the list, I bought my device anyway. My theory was, if the reboot issue was so prevalent, why was it not caught. The answer I came up with ...it was a bad lot.
Other issues I looked at:
-Battery Life: all phones today have this issue. Truth is, there are ways to make it better. There are virtually no way to make it great. When I charge my battery I want it to last all month. I'll accept till dinner time.
-Screen bleed: No idea what this issue. If I have to change the normal settings on my phone to find it...its not a problem to me. This is a personal decision.
-Overheating: First...its dual core. Second, every phone I've ever had has overheated. Pull the battery , start again...does it stop? For me...every time.
-Dust under the display: Man, I wear glasses. Life is a blur. I like big, large letters. I don't see dust if I fall down.
-REbooting: Every phone I have ever had has rebooted...at least once. Sometimes it shuts off. If it continues, I replace it. If it still continues, I calmly get the company to exchange the device. The best way to do this, is in person. In person and able to reproduce the problem for them. Faced with proof, they will almost always do what's right.
Even looking at this list, bought the device because I know there is no way that any reliable company misses that stuff. It had to be limited and it had to be contained. If you want to be it was a conspiracy....then no forum post can help you.

An official ICS release. \\This is not news, tips or how-to's.\\

I better get an ice cream sandwich after having to deal with your crap HTC. This device was full of flaws when I bought it. That was inexcusable after paying top dollar for it. Verizon (Ripoff Mobile, Inc.) was too uptight to do anything about it. I would not be surprised if all the official talk was nothing more than hot air in the end. At least developers are working on a version. I am so glad I finally had some time to get root permissions on this phone. Did you feel betrayed after buying your TBolt? To be honest, I would have bought a marked down model if I had of know ahead of time what was going to happen.

I would have deleted this if the option were available.
why so pissy. My phone was perfect out of teh box, it is faster than any of my friends dual core phones, and I have true unlimited 4g, and why do you care if we get official ics, you will just use a rom anyway, not an ota

Easy killer. My phone has worked mostly fine since day one. Sure there were some software issues (random reboots due to the LTE radio, GPS, the most annoying), but that is to be expected when you buy bleeding edge technology. This was the first Verizon LTE smartphone, EVER.
That being said, the device is still on par with other top devices today. I haven't upgraded, because I haven't found another device I like that much better than this. The Nexus is nice, but I'm not big on the light flimsy build of those phones, plus samsung is notorious for poor reliability. Motorola screen's have been awful so far, or I would have considered the Razr Maxx.
Bottom line...why don't you cry about it...
BTW, there is nothing special about ICS. Sure it's nice to have the newest thing, but there really isn't that much to get excited about. I still don't understand why honey comb and ICS got rid of the search button. I use that thing constantly.
I have to say I've been 99% happy with this phone since release.
The 1% was the odd rebooting issue I had for 4 weeks in aprilish.

Honestly I've liked this phone since I first got it, battery life sucked but that was nothing rooting and loading a rom couldn't fix. Other than that I'm still happy with my purchase.
I especially like it cause me and my girlfriend got phones from a good batch, handles low voltages and overclocking even up to 1.8 (not needed though) perfectly.
Thanks to all the developers who have been developing for the thunderbolt since day one, and all that are continuing to do so!

Let's see.
1. The phone was the Flagship phone for LTE and was released with Froyo.
2. The phone was buggy at release and still shows some issues.
3. Not everyone's phone was "perfect out of teh box". Some of us had to get replacements multiple times to get a *good one*.
4. ICS does have improvements over Froyo and GB.
5. Official OTA release of ICS will allow devs to create much better ROMs for this phone, rather approaching it by piecemealing parts from other Official ROMs.
6. Lastly, this phone was sold at a premium price and VZW's/HTC's support has been lackluster to be kind about it.
Note: I don't know the OP from Adam, but your experience, like mine, is anecdotal and not indicative of all others. VZW screwed the pooch on the roll-out and
HTC screwed the pooch on the releases of updates, support and finally, by rushing the damn thing out the door before it was ready.

That's with any phone these days. I haven't had a single smartphone I haven't had to replace for one reason or another.
On a side note, the Tbolt isn't the only flagship phone with problems. The Galaxy Nexus has really bad call connectivity problems from what I hear, and that's supposed to be the MAIN function of a PHONE. lolz
All i will buy is htc. I know updates are slow to come. I also dont care. The newest isnt always the best, there are usually a fresh set of bugs to work out. That being said, the devs here and other sites give me enough variety to satisfy me. If you dont like the process, learn to code.

I'm sure HTC is reading your post right now
If you care, go call them and say what you said directly as it will do far more good for you and for the community.
I moved onto a Nexus, but I still use my Thunderbolt for development testing apps I make. Not even the Nexus is perfect though as the internal antennas are not as powerful at picking up data. My db is usually 10-15db worse than the thunderbolt. However, I would not trade my Nexus for any other phone as I got tired of having to wait on HTC and Verizon for updates on the Thunderbolt.
i just lol at this thread.
Im an HTC fan. I got my tbolt on launch day and have never had an issue (not saying some havent) but I couldn't be happier.
Still have yet to find one phone on the market that has everything the tbolt has (not including dual core, which has not really impressed me) and still think it is a top 4g phone.
I would buy it all over again. We have received everything promised so far & it would be a nightmare for HTC to not give us ICS after they confirmed it...
I also have to say that Verizon did not screw up or delay the launch. There was never an official launch date given from them or HTC until the week before release, as is the norm with their releases. All other dates were made up by the internet and people.
HTC released about 6 updates to the phone between march and September, I think that is pretty good at keeping on top of it..

Well said. People are never satisfied. I guess they think HTC should put out updates as often as some ROMs get updated...

I got the TB for $49 bucks new when I dropped T-Mobile. Rooted it the day I got it home and have never had a single problem with it that I cannot blame on bugs in the ROM or me OCing the crap out of it.
Everyones phone is gonna be better or worse than the next guy. Did we get screwed by Verizon??? Show me where in writing the promise a full ICS upgrade and you will see thousands of TB owners lining up to sue the piss off Verizon and HTC.
If you are gonna stay up on the newest devices, Hopefully you are not paying retail for the devices, Shop around and you will be amazed at what you can find.
I have a galaxy nexus just sitting on stand-by cause i've had no problems with my tbolt, besides the dev slowing down i really have no problems with my tbolt and has been my favorite phone. while it would be nice to get ICS soon im not tripping about it, my contract for the thunderbolt ends in december much wait and see what comes out by then.
why is anyone bothering to respond to this guy? He doesn't like his phone, he needs to quit whining about it and get rid of it. No amount of "I love my phone!" posts are going to change his mind. They just bump this useless thread back to the top. Yes, I know I also just bumped this thread.

The two people I know with a nexus have had quite a few issues with their phones.. biggest problems being being signal and when leaving WiFi they don't get data until turning their data off and back on... Point is what ever phone you go to there will be something that bugs you about it and the update that fixes your problem will never come out fast enough.. be happy for what you have..

i never get tired of forum drama, except that it makes me crave ham.
I haven't had a problem since day 1. I got home, rooted it and put liquid smooth on. I've always been one to have a new rom every week but this one's been so good with battery life and everything that I haven't even tried another one. I love this phone. On another note, my brother got the same phone and has had problems. Just like any other electronic item, you might get a dud.
