So from a GR-12 standpoint I must say gingerbread handles just about everything better. with the random odd bugs here and there... so far gingerbread is already showing some awesome stability and speed. much kudos out to the devs here! You guys do a great job and from what I've seen here so far... you put up with maybe one too many ignorant rude individuals. BUT! I would like to extend my thanks to all you devs and helpful members here... and for making my switch to android not only an informative one but a great experience all together.
So... anyway. loving gingerbread (GR-12 mainly). After loading up launcher pro almost every single bug or issue has vanished. seems the twlauncher has some deep seated issues lol.
Looking forward to the new releases!
I totally agree, Ive been running GR-12 for a couple of weeks now and its silky smooth. Oh and im also using launcher pro for the same reasons. lol
A different launchere makes all the difference doesn't it!? After I realized that every time I had a snag or crash it was "twlauncher"... I figured I'd try replacing it. and sure nuff... Awesomeness came spilling forth. Honestly haven't had a issue since. (well I flashed the kc1 modem which gives me the gps performance I need... ).
Outside of my own retarded moment bricking my phone while flashing it... Tearing through 3 old power supplies to get the right combo of resistors to build my own jig.... lol! But all is well that ends well.
What's everyone else's setup / experience with ginger on their cappy's?

Does GPS work on your Gingerbread ROMs? I know the Vibrant it doesn't and I am on ATT, so I am looking to trade for a captivate if it does.

worked for me. I was able to pick up a signal within 30 seconds and hold it for almost the whole way to my destination. Not amazing but I've accepted that, now - lol

significantly better than froyo (at least for me). There are some people with a battery drain issue but I'm thinking its an app thats not optimized for GB. I dont think its a ROM or KERNEL issue - but I'm not a dev so I can't back my statements up.
Both battery and gps are better on GB. Gps is wayyy better...

Are you able to give me like how many hours on average you are getting? I appreciate all the solid feedback.
Gingerbread has been horribly buggy. The battery life is just plain awful, it's laggier than 2.1, and it killed my dog.
Someone was bound to say something negative, so I just got that out of the way. Lol
Actually, GR-12 makes my Captivate run as smooth as my Inspire. I got about 12 hours heavy usage with the screen almost max.

that's a loaded question because it depends on MANY factors:
-signal strength in your area
-3g vs wifi connection
-general phone use (phone calls, sms, games, etc...)
For me, the phone lasts MUCH longer. I can go about 20-24 hours until I need to charge again. Thats with medium use and wifi connection 80% of the day. On standby, my phone usually drains 1% - 2% an hour.

Thank you for all the help. The response here is much more positive than the vibrant forums.
glad to help out. hope it works out for you.
EDIT: I should add, though, that when I'm not on wifi (using 3G), my battery doesnt last as long. So I prefer to be on wifi as much as I can.

That is good to know. I will keep that in mind.
So far on continuum its been rather smooth, using go launcher btw.
Battery life is bad though. Less than 8hrs with moderate to heavy usage. I need to fully recharge two to three times a day now.
On froyo I'd get 12-15 hours with similar usage.
Gps works fine, but then mine did on froyo before.

I'm experiencing battery drain, GR, Continuum and Mosaic, I leave wifi on and after 9 hours (fully charged, battery stats reset, standby mode [literally 0 use, I was asleep]), cell standby had used 33%, wifi 30%, .... I had 52% battery left.
GB is smoother, for sure, once kernel development ramps up for GB (JVB, JVH and JVO, ... JV#) i'd expect to see more tweaks include power and performance.
If you need battery life and don't want to risk flashing GB, wait.
battery life *IS* going to depends heavily on how much you use your phone. It's hard to compare battery life amongst people that cannot stand next to each other and compare phones because describing "heavy" use is different for everyone. My version of heavy is not the same as the next person.
the only real determinant of battery life that we can all use as a comparison is to see how much battery drain you have on standby or to run some sort of application that runs videos (ie. benchmark apps) because we can all do that. If your phone drains 2x as fast as mine on standby, then we have a problem with a rogue app or something else.
(clarification: I dont mean to use a benchmark app to see the results of the app itself. I just mean to run something on the phone to drain the battery quicker and view the battery life at the end of the test).
I've always experienced better battery life with Froyo, and I use my phone every single day for reading PDF's, listening to music, texting, calling and surfing the web. Maybe Gingerbread has better standby battery life, but when getting a "full" use out of my phone I've always lasted longer on Froyo builds.
So, I just flashed this ROM yesterday.
Full charge over night took phone off charger around 7ish this morning. Did a quick 30 minute run/walk workout w/the Cardio Trainer recording (tracking w/GPS), all while listening to the FM radio. I have had two phone calls totaling about about 7.5 minutes. Maybe 35 text messages in and out. I'm in a strong 4G area, I do not have my phone set to automatically get email. I just turned off the facebook hourly update, just noticed I hadn't done that yet ..... my phone is already barking at me that I need to plug it in.
With the exception of my run and listening to the radio this morning I really haven't done much .... I downloaded a couple of apps and tweaked them, but seriously 3.5 hours of battery before it's telling me less than 10%.
Any suggestions?
I did not clear the battery stats, in my past experiences that really didn't do anything to help (but that was w/the Eris).
I'd love to have GREAT battery life that everybody talks about. Anybody using this ROM have stupendous battery time? Not sure what has sucked the life out of this.
Thanks
I'd say it's the GPS that killed you.
same thing for me on bamf gb 2.1. i was at 20% after 5 hours of use

IDK about that, I've gone out for the same 30 minute walk/run w/the battery on yellow (on stock rooted) and the radio going and it hasn't killed it. I think maybe it's part of it, but IDK it's all of it.
I've put the phone on strict 3G, going to totally KILL it tonite and turn it off while charging.
Have you tried recalibrating your battery since installing Bamf 1.8 stripped? Maybe it's not a problem with the ROM, but with the battery calibration.
Sometime at night shutdown your phone and then hold volume down and power to boot up HTC's nice bright white bootloader. Leave it alone until it dies (the phone cannot die properly while running Android, since Android will shutdown the phone when it thinks the battery is low, rather than when the battery IS ACTUALLY low). Plug in the power cord after it dies, but leave the phone turned off. It should take a few minutes for the orange light to turn on because it's so dead. Leave it alone until the green light is showing in the morning. Then start it up. This will get the proper 0% and 100% points for your battery stats. Also check what apps are killing your battery. I was having a problem with Google Maps for a while until I cleared data on it.
I have a similar problem. I will take it off the charger and after a few minutes it will be down around 97%. No big deal. I will set it down and walk away for at most 15-20 minutes and come back and it will be on like 80%.
After that though the battery life stabilizes and I get 12+ hours with moderate use

3g to 4g handoff is the main complaint I hear, but I'm not in 4g area. Have driven through a 4g area and it seemed fine to me. Put it this way, this has been my daily driver for over a month now. i just flashed 1.8 remix i get like 9-10hrs of battery with little to medium use
as ive said i must of lucked out with a solid battery as ive never had the horrid battery life most claim on the net. even with 4g on all the time i get well over 10-12hrs with medium/heavy usage.
a suggestion for a solid kernel is the 3.3.7 lean kernel, don't overclock too high either. i think that's why alot of people have the crap battery life and random reboots.
if you live in an area that doesn't get good 4g coverage id switch to 3g only mode if i were you.

- is this different than what is included in the bamf toolkit?
im using bamf 1.6 and i get 20-24 hours batt life
brightness always on 25%, unless outside then i bump it up and then turn it down when im done. lower than 25% at night when the lights are out and im just watching tv
background data and auto sync both off
moblie data off
use wifi whenever possible
switch to 3g only when youre not in a 4g area and you need to use the internet

What is using up your battery because if it is the Cell Standby or Phone idle I have a fix for you. I had always had great battery life until last week when it started draining as you describe in your post. I tried everything to get back to where I was but was not successful. I ended up pulling out the 4G card and reinserting it. I was instructed to do this by a Verizon tech. I though he was wasting my time but it fixed my battery issue and I am getting great battery life on BAMF 2.1 and also BAMF 1.86

i know the battery life of the sensation isn't that great but I make 5 hours with about 1 hour of spotify (music streaming) some browsing and email checks. Also installed couple of apps but that's it.

This just does not seem normal to me? Would like to hear your opinions.

Wow, just 5 hours and your phone dies? That is AWFUL. Something is going on there, have you tried another rom?
maybe your rom is not very compatible with your radio? I am on InsertCoin (always latest) and I changed the energy mode from "maximum performance" to the middle option (don't know the name right now) and reactivated auto-sync and I can use the phone for 1.5 days on normal use. (so on gameplaying or benchmarking all the time) =)
Call HTC and have them to send you a new battery. You get one free replacement.just let them know that you're only 5 hours of life out of it.
Thanks for the replies all,
@KAwAtA,
i've only had stock and my current both ware equally ****ty.
@brandi,
I did flashed the radio that was mentioned with the android revolution ROM, do you have any suggestions?
@dunbar28205
Mabey your right, I'm starting to believe this isn't normal I did already purchase a mugen power 1950mah battery though. Will keep this updated with my findings on that one.
Is your governer on "performance"? Or is your second core somehow forced on?
battery works great for me im at 12 hours of run time and im around 50% left. check your rom and basic settings that kill battery. I also have an anker battery so that helps but really i think its the kernel and rom thats making all the difference

Maybe it helps... Sadly, one would think you get a functional device bought from the store, but all this technology is still a bit new and shiny, so it takes a lot of tinkering to get the most out of your device... It's what I've been doing with my phone for the last month, and it's a work in progress, but so far I've made some improvements
No solution works for everyone, as everyone uses their phone differently in a different environment... So all I can say is read my thread, keep reading XDA and the best of luck on your quest
P.S. That new battery will also help... I bought 2x Chichitec 1930mAh Evo 3D batteries and stuck them in my Sensation, although they are really just 1730mAh (false advertising, meh...or I just got a bad set of batteries?) I've seen a slight improvement over the stock battery
Damn man that sucks. I was having the same issue except I was average 10 hours with pandora usage, and moderate emails/txt/mms etc ....
I flashed the latest ARHD 3.6.7 XE. I followed the proper batter calebration thread on this forum (don't have the link) and after a full charge the next day, I average roughly 19 to 23 hours on a full charge. I'm still at a very moderate usage with pandora/streaming/mms/txt/blah blah blah you know the deal. I am extremely impressed. I'm on stock battery btw. I'm probably going to hook up that aweseom 1900mha battery from anker. I should be pulling over 24 hours no problem after that.
What I do also is when I initially set up ARHD I turn off fastboot in the power menu, I turn off "quiet ring on pick up", "pocket mode", and "flip for speaker" in the sound menu, and I ESPECIALLY turn off the automatic boot up of the task manager as task managers are useless from android 2.2+ and can cause conflicts that drain more battery. You can turn off boot up of task manager in the applications menu. That's pretty much it I don't know what else to say other than I'm doing awesome on stock battery atm.
Try a different kernel. I'm using bricked 1.5. First charge got me 14 hours so far at 31 percent. After the first charge run it to 5 percent and charge full. Rinse and repeat a total of three times and also don't forget to go into recovery and wipe battery stats.

Thanks a ton! I checked it out but isn't it correct that when you flash a rom the battery is auto calibrated? Battery monitor widget Pro says my voltage is:
min 3386 max 4209. Does that give reason to calibrate the battery?
thanks again everyone for all the help
I used to suffer from this issue too. After doing some research I found out that the kernel is the problem.
Try Bricker 1.5 as Galaxa12 suggested and you should notice a massive improvement in terms of battery life.
Also do some digging in Daemon Controller (tip as others suggested: Governor).
Ofc battery calibration is important, but you won't archive better battery lifetime after calibration.
I bought a sensation 4g from a guy off of craigslist (phone was in great shape no issues at all)
The phone came installed with MIUI which I have no problems with except that I may have a battery bug im not sure.
I've been told that MIUI has some of the best battery life among androids ROMS but mine doesnt last more than 8 hours even with juice defender turning my Data off.
Has anyone else had issues with the battery running a version of MIUI
I'd also like to ask anyone who knows about the battery life with Sense UI, and if it isnt too bad maybe see if anyone has a place where I can download the rom to flash.
Thanks.

I guess so. I just think its odd that some people have reported near to a days use with MIUI and im getting maybe 6 - 8 hours with Data off, am I wrong in assuming that not having data on is the big problem?
If you have data off, then you probably are experiencing problems. Data drains a ton of juice. Install rom manager and start with a fresh install is what I would recommend. Wipe everything...

I've had the sensation 4g since june. I used the phone stock (sense ui) up until a few days ago. my battery life would range from 8-14 hours with moderate use. I recently rooted and it decreased my battery life but I am mostly plugged in at work all day so it's not a problem. I would try a few different roms just to see if you like something better anyway. - cheers
Hello,
I can't post in the BlindIce topic so I hope it's fine here.
I've seen only good reviews about the battery, that's the main reason I installed this ROM, but I seem to have a problem, my battery drops like crazy. In ~2h it already went down to 86%, and all I did was send 2 SMS. On Endymion I didn't have this problem.
And I also have a problem with the stock browser, it's moving like a snail, but the main problem is the battery, firefox/chromw is working fine so I can live with that.
I'll upload the battery log after I get home, if needed.
Sent from my Desire S using XDA
i was also very happy with it despite minor bugs but eventually many things sent me back to endymion i can guarantee pretty soon you'll be back on endy, ics roms are nice but until the kernel comes out there isnt really one that can rival endy
anyway back on topic, check things like widgets? especially things like youtube widget i just took mine off, having it there means its connected to the net cycling through the subscriptions constantly, thats an example most widgets add to drain quite well, check your syncs, which app syncing for how long, can you do it manually etc, weather apps are they syncing to frequently, which apps are using location? using better battery stats i found google locations is used in many things without me even knowing, all of these things should be checked and configured on any rom, there is nothing really specific, maybe your 3g is using up the battery? try switching to gsm only.. finally have you calibrated the battery or more specifically the phone; so it reads the battery accurately.. thats all the things i can think of off head to help
Thanks for your reply.
Anyway, all the config was done and there was no widget running so I guess it was something with the kernel/ROM that my phone didn't like, considering that I'm probably among the few or the only one which had such an issue.
And like 3h ago the battery was hot as hell for no reason, only Y!M was running, it literally burned my hand, there's still a little red spot, so idk what was the reason or what happend but I went back to endy, after the 3.0 kernel will be out, I'll try again, until then thanks and keep up the good work @devs.

Any widgets (or sync's) running on your phone?
If so - how many and what kind?
The battery isn't that bad for me but on all of the ICS ROM's that I've used the battery drain issue is quite bad. Then again, I was using Virtuous Affinity for a while and the battery wasn't brilliant on that either so I've come to the conclusion that I will probably require a new battery soon.
But still, the battery on my phone on BlindICE has been better than on yours but I'm reluctant to switching from it now
