[Q] Galaxy S/Vibrant T959 bricked - General Questions and Answers

I'm sure there is an isolated post out there with this same issue. But I have spent an hour here trying to find a fix and have found nothing.
I tried loading a MUIRI build to my phone after months of relatively smooth waters with some Team Whiskey builds. Well MUIRI locked up my phone hard. (T959) I CANNOT access anything in the phone. My computer WILL NOT recognize any of the drives. I get the "unknown device" window and nothing else from there.
Fast forward 4 hours... made a jig and forced my phone into download mode but now Odin won't see it. My wife's phone (same) connects just fine, so all drivers are there are working.
Computer OS is XP with SP3.
I really really REALLY hate this POS. (windows and the Samsung )
ANY help beyond "check your drivers" and "make sure you put your underwear on correctly" would be much appreciated. I'm gonna go get some fresh air for a couple of hours. Thanks in advance.
BTW, since this is my first post... not sure if this is in the correct thread locale or not. Mod, please correct and move if I have erred.

Patching Kies mini to fix crashes (may also fix "unregistered device")

Kies mini is constantly crashing on me, both on my laptop (win7 x86) and desktop (win7 amd64). I've seen people giving random suggestions on things like trying different USB ports, formating internal SD, etc. None of them worked for me. So I took out windbg...
Turns out Samsung is making a stupid mistake in their AMiniFusCtrl.dll, when calling HttpOpenRequest. The lplpszAcceptTypes they pass in is not NULL terminated! So a random data past the end of the array could trigger an AV, that is, a crash. In fact I'm really surprised that majority of people have no issues.
Anyway, I took the work to patch AMiniFusCtrl.dll to load my hand-crafted ApiHook.dll, which hijacks the call to HttpOpenRequest to provide a safeguard there. Ok I'm not gonna dig into how it works here... The result is I finally upgraded my phone through an official means! (well, sort of )
And here I'm attaching the patch. You need to extract and put the two files AMiniFusCtrl.dll, ApiHook.dll in your Kies mini install folder, which by default is "C:\Program Files\Samsung\KiesMini" or "C:\Program Files (X86)\Samsung\KiesMini" on 64bit Windows. Remember to backup your original AMiniFusCtrl.dll.
P.S. I kinda suspect the "unregistered device" error is also due to the same bug, since during my test, it gave the same error when my hijacked HttpOpenRequest fails.
You are the man. This finally allowed me to update my Captivate to JF7. Could never get past 50% with the OTA and Mini always crashed on Win7 64-bit.
This did the trick. Thanks!
I'm have a Vibrant. Before Kies mini was giving me the error "minilauncher application has stopped working". I tried these files and now I get Unregistered Device. Ideas?
Good work, hope the Samsung developers that troll these forums take notice. I use to try to debug stuff that would crash on NT but not on 95/98 way back when in a similar manner and report it to mostly deaf software companies -- luckily all that knowledge is long gone having been at a unix shop for so long.
I tried installing the Kies Mini App. on two different computers (one Vista 32bit and one Win7 64bit). Both computers gave me the same crash/error with Kies Mini as soon as I plugged my phone in. I tried the patches above, and they had absolutely no effect on either computer. I'm on Samsung Vibrant from Tmo, and using the Tmo specific version of Kies but I don't see why this would matter for the patches.
Any Suggestions????
I tried this and it still says my device is unregistered how do i fix this samsung doesn't know crap
Worked perfect for me man! Thanks mucho!

Problems File is invalid....unknown format or damaged when opening with WinRar..
Explorer says file is invalid
i have updated two dlls but it says device unregistered.
any suggestions on how to overcome this?
ok kies mini right now is working only for the captivate so vibrant users are gonna have to wait for a while
This worked for me! My problem started when my attempts at OTA failed leaving me with a pseudo JH7 update (baseband was showing JH7 but no signs I actually got any part of the update).
Having tired of trying OTA, I downloaded Kies Mini and got the "unregistered device" error.
I then ran across this today and it worked perfectly. I have a full-on JH7 - no problems. THANK YOU!
Thanks
Worked like a champ, thanks for taking the time to fix Samsung's mistake.
Anybody find a way to update the vibrant?
Awesome!! That worked great! Thanks for sharing this with us!
That's a Developer 101 mistake. Can you imagine the garbage code in our phones? It's no wonder they can't fix the gps and froyo is taking so long.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Kies Mini would crash as soon as I connected my T-mo Vibrant (before acknowledging the connection), giving me the "MiniApplication Launcher has stopped working" error. Now with this patch, it acknowledges the connection, but crashes while trying to determine the firmware. Anyone have any ideas? I'm running Win7 64bit.
Edit: I ended up trying Kies v1.5.3.10093_82 as posted on the Samsung Galaxy S Series page on xda. It works like a charm! Wish I could post a link, but I'm under n00b restrictions.
Thank's so much for this. I've spend the last few days trying to figure out why my Captivate would cause the application to crash. You are a lifesaver!
Thank You!
I just got my captivate yesterday and have been trying update it with kies mini but to no avail.....that is until i came across this! Works like a charm, thank you!!!
Nice work! Perfect. Thanks.
Still not working
I followed the steps listed but kies still crashes on me once I connect my phone. I'm going to have to contact AT&T I guess. Also I'm not able to run kies mini with usb debugging enabled, and for some reason my kies keeps switching to Korean.
Update: Was able to get mini kies to stop crashing thanks to your fix but it now states "Failed to Connect Model Information Server". Also not sure why mini kies defaults to Korean on me but discovered that only happens when it's not run as an administrator.

[Q] Lg Optimus 2x p990 baseband and driver issues.

Hi guys. Love this site but I am encountering some issues! I am having problems with the drivers (it appears), of my p990h. I am new to android (only had my device a week), and have duly thrown myself in the deep end to try and make the most from the device and have encountered some issues. I am in Colombia and bought the phone here. I ‘rooted’ the device using the ‘Super One Click’ method and had no issues. I then performed the fatory reset and installed the ‘Cm9.0.0-rco-p990-unofficial’ rom (build [email protected]). I didn’t experience issues up to this point. However (and i know i messed up here), i then flashed baseband version 1035.21_20110725 using smartflash. Big mistake as then the time on the phone changed all to European time, and now although the device can be read by my computer, it cannot connect to it and a yellow exclamation appears on the device in device manager. I have tried everyway to update this, but no joy. Tried reflashing with smartflash, but now nothing happens when the phone is connected (nothing appears in the ‘coms port’ box). If i use the lg tool, it doesn’t even list my p990 as a device whose drivers i can download.
So basically I would like to know if anyone can help me:
a) get the drivers working properly again so I can connect the device and update.
And
b) if anyone can get me the 1035.21_20110602 baseband files to go back to how it was previously. Have looked everywhere but no luck. I downloaded one, but i cant seem to find a way to use use it (it appears as a clockworkmod folder and macosx folder. I haven’t used them as i couldn’t figure out how!
May i need to re-root my device, could this be the issue? This had occurred to me that the superuser settings may have something to do with this.
I also want to be able to restore my phone to its stock settings as i really need my camera back up and going properly whilst here in Colombia.
I have spent the last week trawling these forums reading everyone’s posts and learning from you guys, so a big thanks out there to you all who have got me this far – many thanks. Seems like a great community and im looking forward to getting more involved, and learning about the murky waters of android (even though im having some difficulties i love it!) . I apologise for any poor wording and general noobiness that may cause any misunderstanding! I will try and answer any questions/replies i may get as accurately as possible.
I really hope someone can help me as I cant keep going in circles – i have a 12 hour bus ride tomorrow so gotta get it done.
Many thanks in you lovely people!
try flash a new rom CM7

[Q] need help with UnBrickableResurrectorR40

I need some help. I will set up the scenario first. My Cap has had the unbrickmod performed on it about 8 months ago. I had the battery fall out ib the middle of a flash. I was getting the phone /computer "you screwed up a firmware install" animation. I tried to get it cleared up with Odin and now it is black screen no matter what I try. Can't get download, or recovery, and the usb jig won't even get it into download. I am completely unschooled and self taught with pc and phones and I think I have done pretty well. Now, I have taken another big step and after reading up on what to do next, I installed successfully, Ubuntu in my laptop (xp pro)and I can dual o.s. or boot either o.s. individually and everything seems to work fine. I downloaded UnBrickResrectR40, HIBL.zip, and java jre7.0.5. Ihave no clue about Linux or command lines, but after reading a million different claims on how to install these files i was finally able to get the java installed. But, I can't get the unbrickres file to install. I always get an error saying file not found by regex. Now I have copies in downloads, desktop, home, files, and have changed permissions and types(jar,javaw.exe,zip.gz) and still nothing. No forums or help pages help. They all give directions as if you know what you are doing already. They must figure if you got this far you are a tech or a dev, not a noob electrician who can't even type. I need some seriously slow, detailed, step by step, hand holding through this one, if someone has the patience. Back to the phone. The only thing that shows any life in the phone at all is when it is plugged into my laptop. It doesn't show up anywhere but under device manager. It shows under "universal serial bus devices" as, SEC S5PC 110 Test B/D , location 0,device is working properly, driver provider-libusb.org, driver date-7-13-2009,driver version-6.7.7600.16385, not digitally signed. That is it. I need some direction. What do I do now? Hopefully someone feels adventurous. Thanks

[Q] I9000 Not working due software mess-up

Hey guys!
First off, i was searching through loads of forums and attempted different solutions. Anything to get it back working. This only made it worse
What happened was as follows:
After having CM 10.1 or some version of it (had the OS at 4.3 i believe), my phone was very slow, so slow in fact that i got so mad at it that i almost bit through it. So one day when i was in a tent at the foot of a mountain all alone (not that long ago) i decided to rollback the phone to its original state from backup i made some months ago before i upgraded the OS. At the same time just before this i backed up the current build just in case. Using ClockWorkMod 3pointsomething.
It went through everything and then asked me: Do you want to root this device? (or something in those lines). I, having no clue, clicked one of the million "no" on the screen.
After this it rebooted with errors saying "Can't detect this drive can't detect that drive". In other words, it couldn't detect niether Internal SD nor External SD. While having the Samsung logo being displayed without booting if i didn't go into "Volume Up, Menu Key and Start your tiny engines!".
I thought i could fix it and looked through tremendous amount of internets in attempt to fix it. Neither Odin nor Heimdall Frontend could detect the device even after installing the drivers and samsung kies and messing about with those two in between.
After a while i ended up with "Phone . . ! in a orange triangle . . PC" aka black screen of death, while the phone can go into download mode. Which in my hand is equally useless as no program can detect it still.
Now i just decided to start a new thread even though there is endless amount of other threads but none seem to cover exactly this as i haven't yet managed to fix it. Plus a response on progress is always pleasant as i personally don't know when i succeed unless phone works fully again.
How bad off am i?
Any input will be greatly appreciated! :victory:

First you are posting in the wrong location as i9000 has its own forum here for Q&A and others too
second click on My Android Solutions (link below) and try methods to fix USB connection problems first after that get into download mode and use a rescue kit from MY Android Collections (link below) or follow this to flash a Gingerbread JVU stock ROM
Check this out! You , YES! you are an " Android ". Not your phone but U.

[Q] S4 Help needed (Warning: Long story)

Hey guys, let me just start off by saying I have spent almost 8 hours straight today trying to figure this out and dig myself out of a hole I've created for myself, that being said, I'm going to try and be as detailed as possible so you guys know EXACTLY where I am and what I've tried. This post looks long but that's because it is. It's pretty much my entire day's worth of trouble typed out. So just bare with me and see if you guys can help me out here!
I have a T-Mobile Galaxy S4 model: SGH-M919 it has Android 4.4.2. Now on to the problem: I've had this phone for almost a year now and a few months ago I rooted it. Did a simple Youtube tutorial and used Odin to do the work and everything worked out fine. A couple months down the road (yesterday), after using the phone like a teenager, downloading apps and cluttering it up it started to slow down and not run some apps. After thinking about it I decided to factory reset it. All of my contacts, photos, and videos were backed up on Google so I thought "why not?" Well, this is where $#!% hit the fan.. being rooted then factory reset, right before the phone came online it had me answer two questions about the root. Something to the effect of "Do you want to keep root? (This option is not reversible)" I thought since I wasn't using the features I originally rooted the phone for I figured nah just get rid of the root. So the phone did its T-Mobile boot up and started the Initial setup.
Everything up to to this point was fine until I wanted to log in to my Google account during the setup. Please understand that where I am I have full 4G LTE coverage and have access to a pretty fast and sturdy wifi connection. Well, when it came to the google sign in I entered my email and password and it came up with a message reading "Can't Sign in - Can't establish a reliable connection to the server" (believe me i wish that was the only issue) so after reading that, I thought I'd try with my wifi.. nope. Same thing. Since neither my 4g or wifi worked I thought it was Google's servers so I tried again this morning, same thing. (keep in mind at this point i think my phone isn't rooted anymore.) I call the t mobile store and they give me a technical support number, so I call it and I tell them i cant sign into Google. The gentleman told me he cant do anything because he can tell my phones been rooted. Only thing he suggests is to contact Google, well, the customer care number just tells you go to google.com/support and there's nothing there about my problem.
This is where I dig my hole even deeper. I tried another factory reset and up in the top left corner i still see that root text. Even the rooted android symbol pops up before the Samsung logo or t mobile. Since I saw that I thought "ohh it just didn't get unrooted all the way." I look up ways to completely remove a root and a lot of them require plugin your phone into the computer and using Odin to flash a stock firmware on to the device. I went to plug my phone into the usb port but my computer didn't recognize the usb device, having experienced this a long time ago I searched around for the latest Samsung usb drivers and I installed those. Device still isn't recognized. Let me just note before people tell me to use MTP mode or Developer tools> usb debugging or connection mode.. The only thing that happens when plugging my phone via usb is the phone starts charging and my computer makes the trumpet noise like something is plugged in. Other than that, there is NO notification of it being plugged in. The reason i stress this is because I called Samsung technical support at this point and the guy (not gentleman) treated me like a 5 year old and ran me through all of these options after i told him I already did everything he was suggesting, including downloading Samsung Kies 3 and having it install the drivers. It does not pick up the device either.. at this point I looked up ways to remove the root without the computer. I found out you can just go into the root app "SU" or something and theres a remove root option. I jumped on that opportunity and had it removed. I restarted the phone and all the problems still persist, it even still has the root text on the top left when you factory reset it again. However now, even if you factory reset and select the option "keep root," thinking it would bring back the"SU" app it does NOT.
So lets recap. I have a phone that thinks its rooted and even appears rooted to t mobile but doesn't have any of the root apps or privileges or capabilities to fix my Google log in issue (like the host file in filemanager). And I can't re-root to get that app back because none of my 3 usb ports, 3 different usb cables (one being the cord that came with the phone), or any of the ports/cables on someone else's computer will recognize the darn thing to work on that way! I have all these issues that are supposed to fix each other but I can't do any fixing because they cancel each other out too... I'm at a dead end.
In case this isn't the right forum/website/thread/post area etc.. I have this whole message saved in Microsoft Word document so I can repost it anywhere you guys might suggest better results. Any help/advice will be much appreciated.
