Infused but loving the dlev rom 5.0 version but infused is a really good one to start out with

I keep numerous ROMs on my phone just in case I get bored, but my daily right now is Serendipity 7, it's extremely reliable. Everyone here is going to suggest a different Rom, it's all about personal opinion..
And before flash I clear dalvik cache, cache partition, and wipe factory data, then install your zip

I know its about personal opoinion but I like to see what other peoples are, since I'm new I have no idea what these roms look like. Anyone have a website that shows all of them? I like roms that completely change the look and make it unique.

I wouldn't use Rom Manager unless you are flashing Infused... You need to download the rom zip file and put it on your internal sd and boot into CWM and from there install zip from sd card and find the zip. Check the android development section and read the instructions that each developer gives you. Here is the thread for Dlev.

Alright ill check that out, so do you have a site that previews them? And what are the buttons u have to press to get into recovery?

All Roms are in the Android Development section and find the rom you want to flash, and you need to make sure you have a grasp on how to do everything before you start flashing, you don't wanna brick your phone, cuz thats a whole other ballgame, read read read lol. To boot into CWM just open rom manager and select boot into recovery OR with the phone off hold both volume buttons + power button for about ten seconds.

Every time I try to download one it says " download unseccesful." Why can't I download?

There could be a lot of reasons bro, this thread will not get much attention if it's in the themes apps section, you should probly start a new thread in the Q&A.
I suggest you start here it's your best bet. Then try flashing.
Your first flash should probly be the Infused 1.6 froyo rom until you get a better grasp on things. Its the easiest and most thoroughly instructed rom thread. Infused 1.6

Well right now I'm downloading serendipity 7. Looked amazing. Infused looked boring. Has. Thanks for the info bro.

Sorry ifg I missed it but did you get an answer if ROM Manager will work at the FLASH CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY step or do we have to reboot directy into recovery?

Hello came over from the Captivate

Ok jumped ship from the Captivate to the Inspire.
So far am liking the phone.
I want to root it and rom. I saw the sticky in the general section and want to ask is that the best place to start?
Captivate was fairly easy to mess with. Reading a bit seems the inspire is a bit more tricky. I just want to make sure that I don't brick it lol. I want to make sure I can get it back to stock if need be.
If this should have been in Q&A then mod please move it. Figured I would introduce myself and get pointed in the correct direction. No sense making useless posts.

Welcome fellow ex-Captivate owner. Your instints are spot-on. That sticky is THE best place to start. Everything you need is in that thread, in terms of info and links to rooting methods, etc.
As a former Captivate owner, the inspire is not "one-clickable,",like the Captivate, and A LOT of people get tripped-up on the rooting process. It's more involved, but that's just how it is. The advantages this phone has over the Captivate make it worth it.
What about drivers. I downloaded some but not sure how or if I need to install them.
For computer drivers go to the official htc website and download and install the ones for the inspire.Once installed, you can delete htc sync since it isn't that useful anyways and can interfere with computer to phone communications.
Now you should be fine on drivers.

Well I appreciate that response but can you point me too some. I would like a GB rom and not sure what the difference is between Sense 2.1 and Sense 3.0. I gather getting a sense 3.0 is the way to go.
I am currently using Leedroid GB right now.
If I want to flash another rom what is the procedure for that? On the Cappy I would flash back to a stock rom then flash the new rom. Is that similar here or what?
From experience it is best to do a backup of apps and contacts and do a full wipe from recovery
1- wipe data / factory reset
2- mounts and storage - format system
3- advanced - wipe Dalvik Cache
4- Install Rom and add-ons
when going between ROMs for the inspire it is best to do this. Only when upgrading to a new release of a ROM you can just flash over the top of it and sometimes that gets sticky.

Thanks much. Those 3 steps are what flashing to stock with Odin is on a Cappy. So I now know what to do on the Inspire.
Bit different animal the Inspire then the Cappy. So far am liking it a bit better. Sense is much nicer then touchwiz but I removed touchwiz and replaced with launcher pro about 2hrs after first getting the Cappy.
One issue I get is the clock/weather widget reports the temp in Celsius how can that be changed?

when switching between ext3 and ext4 roms you need to add
3.5 mount /system & /data
might as well be in the habit.
I personally like sense 3.0, but the sense 2.x are a lot more stable with less hiccups.
i know its a pain, but please read the threads. by page 200 you will know the answers to all the irritating questions people just keep asking over and over and over. but keep on reading because there will be little gems here and there.
that 3-4 hours reading up on a particular rom will come in handy when you flash and know what to expect, common issues and how to deal with them. that 3-4 hours will keep you from having wait a day to be acknowledged with a lovely "search the thread" or "read the OP" response.
but hopefully you rooted your captivate, know to read up first, seach second, reread, search again and then ask. and welcome to the inspire!
I had my Captivate rooted and rom'd about 2 weeks after I got it. So yeah I am a flasher.
I know what to expect if something goes wrong and usually could get out of it with my cappy. I never had to use a jig or even buy one. I seemed have good results with anything I did on that phone. Finally found a nice GB rom for it great battery life.
Reading through the threads I do do that but there is so much bs and off topic stuff in some of these threads it gets tiresome to paw through 200+ pages to find something. I suck at searching on forums always get non related stuff.
I hear ya. I am not a noob at this just cautious and like to ask questions before doing things.
I'm also a Captivate to Inspire person. I agree that things look like they were a lot easier on the Captivate. I'm very nervous that I'll break something. The phone seems to work fine stock though.

You're not going to break anything. It might LOOK like you did, but as long as the phone at least starts to boot up, even if it appears stuck, it's fixable.
And the phone does work great stock, compared to a stock captivate, it just works even better with a custom ROM, as most will improve the battery life significantly, if properly flashed, and absent of any rogue battery-draining apps that are installed by the owner of the phone.

Anything that you guys can help with. I have a lot of experience in developing and themes and just to make sure I hook her phone up good! Any help and advice you guys can give would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Best Odin guide is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160580. Odin is a Windows-based low flash utility for Samsung phones. It's needed to flash radios and to initially flash a new recovery image so you can flash other roms. Some roms are also distributed as full Odin images as well.
Best is completely subjective. Do you want to remain on Froyo go to Gingerbread? Froyo is the latest official for this phone, but the last Gingerbread leak is so stable and fast that there is really no reason not to go to Gingerbread right now. A lot of people love GummyCharged. I don't...it's fast, but I've personally had a lot of stability issues with it. It looks AOSP if you're into that. A lot of people love Infinity, and while I do like the rom, I have hot boot issues with it. Humble is currently the only released rom built on the latest Gingerbread leak (though the previous leak is just as fast/stable in my experience). It's fast and stable, but it doesn't have a lot of the mods and tweaks present in some of the other roms. There's also one called Darkcharge TQ that I don't have any experience with, but I think the theme is pretty hideous.
For overclocking, it's easiest in Froyo. It requires Tegrak Overclock on Gingerbread. I have had good luck at 1.2 GHz and instability any faster. Some people have been able to get it higher, so YMMV.
As for themes, I know GummyCharged has a pink theme. Not really sure about any other themes.

Its people like you that keep people from posting questions. In regards to your smart alec comment. Yes I do have experience developing and making themes. My focus was that I was trying to get a bunch of different opinions so I could make my decision based on the general populous. Mmm, I can haz Xanax bar? But anyways. Samsungs are about the easiest to hack. You download odin 1.83 [ http://www.mediafire.com/?51ikb8x0g16m221 ] and then download an odin package which has the rooted rom, kernel, recovery and radio all in it. After you download it then open up odin and select PDA. DO NOT PICK ANYTHING ELSE OR YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE. Look for the Odin package you downloaded and select it. Then do "Adb reboot download" [this is how you flash odin files] then start the process. So its about a ten minute process that does everything for you. Gunnermike had a pink theme but he needs to update it for the newest leak.
Btw, you will know if its an odin package by reading the thread under development. Itll say ODIN.
I also released a theme, my girlfriend has it on her Inspire 4G and we both loved it. I ported the SystemUI and Framework but I still havent got around to the dialer and mms, so itll be a little mismatched. But take a look anyways. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1303470

Sweet! So, keep in mind GummyCharged isnt an odin file. So if you want to make things easier, flash this odin file so you can get your root, recovery and kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1270987 after that then download GummyCharged GBE2.0 http://rootzwiki.com/showthread.php?1292-ROM-EP1W-CWM-GummyCharged-GBE-2.0RC1.5-9-13-2011 and flash it in recovery. Quick and easy root . I also got a theme for GummyCharged 2.0 . http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1282585
Somethings to keep in mind about GummyCharged 2.0. When you first flash you will NOT have a lockscreen nor will your battery show up.
Go into settings>TSMParts and check and uncheck "disable lockscreen." Then pick whatever lockscreen style you want.
Do the same with the battery icon.
And when you charge your phone to 100% and unplug your phone, you will get a force close on your status bar. But itll load right back up.
Hope I've helped a bit and welcome to the Droid Charge forums.

ROM and Kernel

Hello First time poster , but ive been reading for a while now. Im a complete noob, but i successfully rooted my phone through the guides here, so ive done some extensive searching through the forum.
I really like my rooted infuse, but i totally envy my gf's gs2 . I wont be able to renew my contract until next year, so for now, i want to use my phone to its full potential. Opinions are welcomed,
I basically have a rooted stock phone running froyo 2.2.1. Read through a bunch of comments how froyo operated better than GB on the infuse, what are your thought on that?
Reason i ask is because i would like to run a custom rom, i really like MIUI, CM7, and ZEUS. I went through endless pages but im tied between them.
Which would you recommend. Im looking for performance, style and stability. I know its a matter of opinion, but im open to what many have to say.
Bit a confusion too, since i have a rooted 2.2.1 froyo will doing a custom rom automatically, upgrade me to gb or even maybe ics.
I also have seen in some threads where many mention that some of the roms come with a custom kernel already. Which ROMs would those be?
Im a noobie, but i did search the forum. You can lead me into the right direction that'd be great
Please and thank you
-Smiggs
First off, welcome to the forum. When it becomes to roms it all depends on ur liking. We have a lot non official custtom GB roms. This is the beaty about android, flash until u find the one you like and that goes for modems and kernels. I would suggest to start flashing and keep reading. GL and I hope you the one for you.

Hey thanks for the welcomes and not bashing the noobie.
ima flash today, hopefully everything goes good.
so far after some more research came up with a little summary of steps,
Im running rooted infuse 4g, froyo 2.2.1
so far what i got from it is,
-install 3e recovery
-clockword mod
-nandroid back up
-insert preferred rom to sd
-boot into recovery via clockword
-clear data/cache w.e
-install zip
-reboot
and done, did i forget a step? enlighten me please.
Another thing Zeus requires me to have a GB Bootloader, how would i go about doing that?
please and thank you

You're on the right track.
Get the roms and files downloaded to your pc and your phone.
might want to make a folder on your phone (ex:roms or flashhappy)
put all those files in there.
good to have entropy's latest kernel, superuser signed pak in doctorz roms too)
if you want, it may be simple also just to use sgskernel flasher from market, flash gtg infused kernel if you're on froyo and boot into cwm and go from there.

i have a fail safe method that i use. learn to use heimdall and install a driver on one port on your pc - and save that one port for only heimdall.
use adam's uckj4 heimdall package. flash it once, flash again with boot loader checked (this will give you gb bl) then flash defuse kernel in second post and then flash your rom

good luck
Thank you very much, greatly appreciate it.

[Q] Q: How do I flash a Kernel with CWM embedded?

Hey guys.
Sorry for asking this, but Ive looked everywhere and tried 2 different kernels flashing with both heimdall 1.3.1 and 1.3.2, as well as odin 1.85, and I just cant seem to find the right kernel that will flash properly through either flash tool. All I want is to be able to put a new rom on this cappy I JUST picked up.
I have a motorola atrix and a samsung s2 skyrocket, and change roms like theyre underwear, lol. But with no official CWM that can be easily flashed through rom manager, Im having trouble figuring out how to get CWM on this thing. Im not a noob, troll, or whatever else people hate, lol. Its just that there arent any new threads in the cappy section about this, and all the instructions Ive found are at least a year old, and havent worked for me.
I just need to be pointed or guided in the right direction so I can start having fun with this bad boy!!
Thanks guys!!

I had problems too, i just figured everything out and this worked for me.
To do this successfully, you need to be running gingerbread on your cappy.
1.) go to goo.gl/4vmPj
2.) read EVERYTHING and make sure you understand it.
3.) Download the Odin and Kernel they provide. I suggest the kernel v.7.05 that it recommends too because other versions gave me problems this version worked the best for me.
4.) follow all the steps there, it will give you cwm recovery AND root.
5.) Now you can flash any rom from the captivate android development section like normal but this first time when going from stock to a custom rom, DO NOT wipe data/factory rest in cwm!!
6.) Enjoy :good:
Appreciate the help fellas!
I followed your link anwarkhan and corn kernel worked perfect! Just complete my first backup of stock, so now its time to play!! lol
But my ACTUAL problem turned out to be odin not recognizing the device. I didnt realize it wasnt seeing it.
Turns out I just needed to update the samsung drivers on my computer. I thought I had done that through heimdall, but aparantly not.
Just went in and manually updated them and voila!
Thanks again guys
Yeah, Heimdall installs it's own drivers, and those specific drivers are only installed to the one usb port that u r connected to with ur phone at the time of the install.
Odin uses the drivers from samsung.

Awesome!! Thanks again!!
Quick question.
Why are you not supposed to do a factory reset when coming from stock?? Just a little curious.
Sent from my SGH-I896 using xda app-developers app
Not sure why that was posted. Because when flashing a Developer's Rom it will be a full wipe rom anyway, usually.
And ur apps and other stuff u should have backed up before flashing.

That's what i figured. Anyway, I'm happy to report that i am now running aocp 4.2 jb, rooted and recovery'd, lol. Thanks for the helpful hints fellas. Let the games begin!!!

No problem, I'm glad everything is now working for you. && you aren't supposed to do a factory reset when coming from stock because if you do, when you flash the rom and kernel and reboot, your cappy will directly boot into recovery and recovery only and wont boot into the rom. That's the problem I had a few days ago which took me a while to figure out.

[Q] Most Recent Methods?

I just acquired a Samsung Infuse so am entirely new to this phone, have rooted it so far via SuperOneClick, but am not having issues determining the best method of acquiring CWM so as to flash some new ROMS.
there are a number of threads i found through searching the forums but all of them seem to be quite old (2011). one of them i tried and it did not work, i got an e-signature failed error of some kind and couldn't find any solid information about how to get around that.
for someone who is brand new to this phone and disgruntled with the performance of 2.3.3, what would be the best method to utilize to get CWM to get a good ROM on this thing?
Thanks in advance

Great Question -- Great answer - keep it clean . Option C
thanks alot fellas, i appreciate the generous replies. i hadn't seen this one anywhere yet and it looks to be pretty straight forward so i'll try it out and let you know if i have any other questions! cheers
You guys are lifesavers. Is there a ROM any of you would recommend to load straight on the phone easily now that I have rooted GB 2.3.6 with the red CWM??
Looking forward to not having to deal with the brutal battery life and laggy response of 2.3.3!
Yeah u can flash all the ROM over 2.3.6 thru CWM, But just keep in mind if u want JB then u have to flash ICS first the JB.
There are many many good GB roms with good battery life i will not name them just flash and see which suits u the most.

hey rkkaranrk, thanks for the help. i want to flash entropy's CM9 so that i can move up to BeanStalk, but the download mirrors are broken. Is there another ICS rom anyone can recommend? Most of the ICS roms i'm seeing are actually just themed GB roms...
thanks again.
EDIT: nevermind got the cm9 download working. will try that and then hopefully flash beanstalk.

well i figured id update here as everyone's been such a big help and i really went through a heck of a process trying to get things back to a working state.
from CM9 i attempted to flash SlimBean and then got stuck in a boot loop. from there, i made the terrible mistake of panicking and trying to flash back to CM9, which seemed like it worked until i got stuck in a boot loop again. i panicked further and tried to flash all the way back to stock GB 2.3.6 which just messed everything up and i bricked it. could not get into download mode, nothing. i realize how stupid all of my mistakes were but thats what learning is about LOL.
finally today i uninstalled all versions of KIES, reinstalled latest version of java, used a different (non-front panel) usb port, with a brand new usb cable (one of my quality ones from a branded charger vs. the cheap one i was using previously). finally got ODIN to recognize my phone and flashed tue UCLB3 Unbrick w/ Root and it worked like a charm.
so i'm going to start again and try to work my way more carefully up to the top haha. thanks again for all the help guys, really appreciate the great infuse community here :good:
