[Q] Why won't ROM files show up on SD card? - Samsung Infuse 4G

I wanted to flash and try another ROM, but when I go into Recovery and try to insert a file from the SD card, the file is not there. Is there any way to fix this? Is there also a difference if the Recovery menu is red or green? Thanks.

Red CWM is preferred, but no. Put the zip file on your Internal SD, that way as soon as you select choose zip from sd card it will be right there (usually near the bottom for me)

Like above post, red is preffered but you can also use green. And make you're putting the rom.zip on the phone memory and not the removable SD card.

Yeah usually it doesn't read your sd card that way the things that are saved there are safe. You can leave a copy there, but flash from the one on the phones memory. Also maybe try "ROM manager" it's free in the market place. Although I've never flashed a ROM from sd it has the option available. Give it a try an see if that works for ya.
Don't be afraid

Thanks everyone for the guidance. I transfered the files to the phone's internal memory and it worked.

Alternatively, you can go into the mount settings menu and mount "emmc". Then, you should have an option under zip flashing for selecting a zip from "internal sdcard" at the bottom of the menu. From this point you can select zips on the external sdcard. This is the case for
Blue CWM but I assume in other versions.
Yes, it seems counterintuitive that:
"sdcard"= internal storage, and:
"internal sdcard"= external sdcard (emmc)

[Q] SD Card (External) not seen in CWM

I previously had bricked my Xoom and was able to get it back to stock (with help from the forum). I then rooted it and was going to try flash BRD's Kernal, 3.1 update, bootloader, ect. I DL'd the files and saved them to my SD card. Popped the SD card in. Rebooted into Clockword and could not see my external SD to flash from. I went into the advanced setting in CWM and checked to see if the SD card was mounted... It wasn't. I don't even have the mount/unmount SD option anymore.
I went to the forums and kept getting looped back to the Clockwork Mod 3.2.0.0 thread. Is there a way to push this file through ADB? I'm new to ADB so I don't know if it's even possible. If so which file? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Just to add to the post, I can't see the external card anywhere. Not in the file manager or on my PC, via USB. I've formatted the SD card in my Droid 2 and my PC. That's all that I can think of to add to this.
You can push the recovery in fastboot. Make sure your CWM is version 3, not the version 4. Get it from the forums, in fact the link in my sig for all 20 stock images has everything you need.

if you loaded 4.0.0.4 already and if you have rom manager you can scroll to the bottom and choose "All ClockworkMode Recoveries" and choose 3.0.2.5, then go to thread i linked and flash that..
Thats how far my knowledge goes
Hope it helps
I've copied Turkawa's post as an alternative to pushing files through adb. If you go the adb route you need to download all of the necessary files on your computer. Also make sure to only flash the image file (.img) not a zip file through adb.
Good luck!

If you can't see your SD card anywhere that is problem number one. If you have a SD card in your droid2, put it in the xoom while it is powered off and boot into clockwork. If you can read the card you have narrowed your problem to the card itself. Try using Panasonic SD formatter (Google for the free app) to format the card and try again.

Installing roms.

Ok so I'm confused, whenever I load a new rom I always go into recovery mode and use cwm, but lately I've been reading that it's not a good way to do it. That it can corrupt the file, am I missing something this is the only way I know how to load roms.

It's bad to transfer ROMs to your phone from your computer using the clockworkmod mounting method.
Flashing ROMs through CWM is the only way to go.

Meaning put the downloaded rom and put it onto and sd card via a micro sd card adapter in your computer or transfer it while there is a working rom on the phone.
I connect my phone to PC then just transfer to sd card I never use cwm

I don't mean to take this off topic but this has to do with cwm. I am trying to load a new rom through cwm using my micro SD card but it is not recognizing my SD card in cwm. do I need to wipe it before I see anything? really nervous about doing that without seeing the rom first. what should I do?

Do you have an internal or external SD? If you have an internal SD you will have to scroll down to "choose zip from internal SD".
Also, as a rule of thumb, whenever you are switching ROMs you should backup and wipe first unless you are on the same ROM and are just updating and the developer says that a full wipe is not needed.
I am using an external micro SD card. I have just the option for "install zip from sdcard" then I have the option to "choose zip from sdcard". when I select this, all I can see is 2 folders "lost.dir and Android" not the 2 zip files or folders that are on my external sdcard. internal sdcard refers to the phones internal storage correct? I dont want to confuse the 2.

The phone comes with an 8 GB internal SD card, and then you can put in up to a 32 GB micro SD card. You may have actually unknowingly put the files on your internal SD.
After choosing "Install zip from SD card" try choosing "Choose zip from internal SD card" (not quoted exactly, I can't check for my self right now but the option will say something about internal memory.) See if your zips are in there.
do i need to wipe first before seeing that option? I am using the latest cwm it does t give me the option to choose. I took the micro SD out and loaded the zips on there and reinstalled it into the phone but it will not allow me to see the externalSD card in cwm. I can see the zips on my phone when it is on using androzip. but unable to access on cwm. do I need to clear something in cwm to make this access able?

[Q] CWM not reading external SD card?

I just rooted my TF101 yesterday using Vipermod and I wanted to install a custom ROM on it today. I backed up my current settings using the backup on CWM and placed the revolver.zip file in my external SD card.I wiped my data to factory settings. However, when I boot into CWM and go to install zip file from SD card, the file is not there. It appears that the CWM was reading the data file on my internal SD card. So I tried putting the revolver.zip file on the external SD card but when I went to install it from there it gives me an error saying installation aborted. What am I doing wrong?
Thank you in advance for the help.
What version of CWM are you using?
Roach's version 3.2.0.1 will read from the external sd card
Roach's version 5.5.0.4 will read from the internal sd only
Team Rouge recovery will read from internal or external sd
I am currently running 5.5.0.4 so I guess it should only be reading from the internal card then.
And just to clarify, am I supposed to place the .zip file onto the SD card because when I do so it will not run, and I get an error message saying that the installation has been aborted followed by a dead android. Am I supposed to unzip the file and then place in into the SD card? Or is there another reason why I am getting this error?

Yes put the zip file on the internal sd card.
Boot into recovery and choose "install zip from sd card" (exact wordings might be different).
If it's not flashing I would check MD5SUM of your download file.
This is going to sound completely noobish, but how would I go about doing that?

You can go into the Google Play (Market) and search "md5sum" there's a lot of apps to do it.
Personally I use this
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...251bGwsMSwyLDEsIm5ldC5kcm9pZGNvcmUubWFuZDUiXQ..
When you download a ROM or other files, the dev usually list
an md5sum, make sure the md5sum of the file you download match what is listed.
When a download is corrupted the md5sum (md5 hash) will not match up.
I just downloaded rogue CWM and then flashed that with CWM. Then I was able to access the external SD card and I am now currently installing the ROM.
Thank you very much for the help, thanks given.
yes,
it is important to take the correct version of cwm : 3.2.0.1 by Roach2010 !

[Q] Backing up to external SD card for SafeStrap V3

I'm having the worst time trying to find out how to friggin' backup my phone to my external sd card. For some reason, I can do it to my internal storage, but have no way of getting it backed up to my external SD card. I can see the option to select it, but I can't actually select it. I think I have to create a folder on my external SD card for the root but I just can't figure it out. Does the whole entire SafeStrap file need to be copied over to my SD cars as well with a repeat process of installing it the same way in which I did for the internal storage too?
Have you tried backing it up then manually copy pasting it to your sd card?
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using xda app-developers app
I have not, as I assumed that while that might be an option, that if I cannot select the external storage option then something is wrong with SafeStrap. If all I have to do is manually copy it over to my external SD card, and with that done Safestrap can still function OK, then that is what I can do. I thought there was something smaller I might have been missing, so I wanted to make sure it was done accurately. Thanks for the input!
EDIT: My real worry with this, is that if I cannot select external SD storage, then how will I select the files I need to install when flashing ROM? I don't have enough space on my internal storage for the files, and would have to put them onto my external SD card, but if I can't select it then I have no clue how I'll be able to flash the ROM.

I thought I had the same issue and mashed the radio button a bunch of times out of frustration and it eventually worked. It's like the touch isn't as responsive in that area of the screen when in SS.
Well, I got the ROM to work. Since my internal storage is only 5 GB, I couldn't leave both the backup file and the ROM zip files on the same storage device, so I moved the backup manually to my external SD and left the ROM.zip on my internal. I flashed them, got the ROM to work but when I opened it up and booted, as I expected, the phone is like new (nothing installed like I originally had it). Well, I can't restore the backup since it is on my external SD card and since I can't still select that option under SafeStrap, I'm kind of in a pickle here. As well, I my computer couldn't recognize my phone either when on the new CM10 ROM. I'm just going ROM this weekend. If any of you have any clue how to get my computer to recognize my phone when booted on the CM10 ROM, or know how to get SafeStrap to allow me to select my external SD card for storage etc I would much appreciate it!!

[Q] lost access to external sd in red cwm

I'm at a loss. I don't know where I went wrong so maybe someone has some suggestions to lead me down the right path, Please and Thanks.
I've restored with odin and heimdall, used entropy and zen's kernel, but for some reason I cannot access the external sd card in red CWM. I've flashed cm9 so the blue CWM direct link to sd card works. In red when you use external is says no files found but exist. The files are there. You can access through root explorer or my files and they work. I've reformatted both internal and external. Every now and then I see something about no app2sd partition.
Im in a a bad reception and wifi area and won't be home for a month. Don't want to seem ungrateful if I don't reply back right away. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks for any help.
If you are referring to the CWM menu options and status messages relating to sd-ext that is not your external sd card. See this guide for more info:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1799917
To confirm whether your external sd card is available from red CWM, you can use ADB (if you have it) and check for files in /sdcard/external_sd. If you don't have ADB, you can load the Infuse Toolkit from CWM recovery (see link in my sig), run the Aroma File Manager option and navigate to the same location highlighted above. If you can see files or copy files to that location you are good.
If you have recently returned from JB and previously upgraded to JB without removing your external SD card, this may have caused your issue. See this guide from andros11 for recommended upgrade JB process:

Thanks Zen! I will try the adb route. I might not be explaining it right but the files are visible by any means besides red cwm. I will do so more work and get back. Thanks again for giving me another way to look at it.
Edit: I always keep my zip files on my external card. I was always able to access them with red cwm ( maybe they were still visible on the main menu). I stay on gb rom's. I only tried cm9 for the blue recovery and if i remember there was a menu option for the external or internal sd card ( sorry I forget) but my zip files were there and accessible. I thought in the red cwm i accessed them in the ext-sd option. I use your toolkit too. You the man and thanks for your help.

From the aroma file manager, i can see the files on the external card but they don't show in the red cwm. I can work around since I can still move the files but it is driving me crazy. LOL Thanks again. I'll keep trying. This was a warranty replacement phone and I don't have a spare sd card with me. I've never been on jb with this phone but my card might have.

This appears to be a...ahem... "feature " of the red CWM recovery. I copied a zip file to my external sd and attempted to access it via the install zip from sd menu option. No luck...
So.. Your ext sd card is fine - just make sure to keep all your CWM zips on the internal sd card.
