This is my first thread yay! I was reading myself into rooting and stuff because some of my colleagues also rooted their samsungs.
Now i have a CHACHA and i was curious for CM7, but i find out it is not released for my phone (yet)?
Is there some topic where i can follow the development of CM7 for HTC CHACHA? Will it ever come or not?
Another thing, it seems i need the XTC clip for S-OFF my phone, any stores in holland known that sells those clips? Else can i buy it from someone since i think 50 euro's for unlocking a phone is a bit much.
is already a version for chachacha CM7?
I don't believe there is CM7 for HTC CHACHA. I am wondering if there will be a CM7.
Can someone update me if people are busy on it? Maybe the phone is not interesting enough?

Don't pay 50, not more than 15. Actually there is no other way to make s-off(and routing)
Look for a local forum (in Holland) treating with HTC products. For sure there you will find a topic speaking about xtc clip in your country. Or.. use Google.

Ok selling my phone to Mikevhl so he can develope for the HTC ChaCha, i will buy a new HTC ChaCha no problem
Just had a chat with Mikevhl, and he told me he is not gonna buy my ChaCha, that means he is not developing CM7 for the ChaCha, due to not enough interest if i am right.

I'm not sure this is true... he said he already bought a XTC Clip. I remember he saying that he would stop porting because someone was already doing, but the other guy said he didn't have time. Well, I hope Mikevhl is thinking in coming back
Sorry, i was a bit mistaken Mikevhl told me he stopped because he was low on cash (don't spend money if you don't have too) + other dev where working on htc chacha CM7 mod. Now i read that other dev stopped working on it so i pm-ed mike whatsup

yes unlock bootloader... but this will not help... what will really make htc unlock their bootloader is if we boycott them and say we will not buy the sensation at all if its locked and convince others not to buy it... but its a longshot so i vote yes

I doubt this is the best way to make a petition. Can't we make a petition on Petitiononline.com or something? We would reach a wider audience and get more signatures. We could send it to Android and tech related websites for people to sign. So we can make a more powerful statement to HTC and maybe also Motorola that the public wants to have the choice to do whatever they want with their devices.

Agreed, but the threads in this Sensation section aren't getting many hits. I'd say ask moderators for a petition on the homepage or something that catches more eyes than here.
But great idea, I was waiting for someone to start a petition. Keep up the good work! Let's maximize the potential of this petition!
I agree that the use of a petition web site outside of XDA would be useful. Not everyone who would want to vote is a registered XDA member and I'm not the type of person to be inclined to register somewhere just to cast a vote.
Now, if you were to use something like Facebook... I'm sure you'll get more votes there. Plus, other web sites probably wouldn't have a problem linking to it from their web sites (Android Central, Phandroid, Engadget, etc.).

wont buy a locked sensation
this device sounds like the promise of the year,
but i wont think about buying it till i see the development threads filling with custom ROMs .
i love HTC hardware , but i hate the sense !!!!! and although the sense3 looks better it will still be far behind Cyanogen mods, performance wise .
and as a HERO owner ( hopping soon to be ex ) i know how HTC neglects the old devices . had 1.5, HTC promised 1.6 and then they promised 2.0, and finally when i got 2.1, everyone already had froyo. ahh
I dont want to see their stupid flipclock weather thing ever again
bottom line is:
only when HTC sensation will run CM7 ill buy it..
Why is it locked in the first place? Noobs won't know what bootloader is and so won't be messing up their phones and people like us who mod our phones know what we are doing (or at least think we do) and so won't mess up our phones anyway... Having it unlocked just saves us the time of having to hack it to unlock. Really don't see what they achieve??!?

Quick question... I'm thinking of getting my Des S unlocked at a phone shop (it's factory unlocked to all networks, but is S - On). If I have this done, will this process normally s off the phone automatically, or do I need to make sure they use XTC clip. It's just that I'm not sure they'll know what I'm on about if I start talking about S off.
I bought a HTC Desire S from free and I would like to know how to it unlocked permanently also.
I hear you can do it online, offline, using a cable...
at the moment only option is to use XTC clip or XTC clip payngo (or how it is called)... hopefully alpharevx will be released soon and everyone will be able to S-OFF for free without any special hardware

This thread apart from being completely unnecessary and a duplication of many already existing threads is about S-OFF unlocking and not network unlocking so this post isn't relevant.
Besides products that are for the DESIRE shouldn't be suggested to newcomers for the Desire S especially not with the tagline AT YOUR OWN RISK .....IMO
There is a risk involved whether your a new comer or not, and please excuse the fact that I have replied to a genuine concern but I don't have the time to trawl through everything before trying to help.

Now since I dont find any possible permanent method to acquire ROOT and S-OFF, I decided to buy an XTC Clip.. According to the XTC Official Support team, it should S-OFF The chacha and the Status and that should give us complete freedom with this brilliantly awesome economy phone.. And i dont think HTC is gona unlock the boot loader for the chacha as they are very busy with sensations and HD's and Dr Dre
People like me wouldn't actually wait for a possible method to come out so that i can S-OFF my phone LOL
I have ordered the XTC clip and will receive it today or maximum tomorrow..
I was just thinking, this XTC clip will be only needed once and it does have unlimited credits of use.. and keeping it with me would be practically useless once i've S-OFF'd the device.. So, if everyone was willing to share and S-OFF their phones, we could actually share this device.. like.. i could use it.. and pass it on to a friend who wants t here for a bit lower price than the price spent by me.. and that friend could pass it on.. and on.. this could be really helpful.. That way, all we do is spend a very small amount for s-off ing our devices and at the same time, help the others here at XDA too.. right ??

i ordered it from bangalore.. cost me 2000INR + 100INR(courier charges) which is approx 30EUR where they officially sell it for35EUR..
I could pass it on to you for a lower price.. and you too could pass it on to some one here itself too..

I hate to post in a slightly old thread, but I feel it's more relevant than starting one myself:
I've been searching around Tyne and Wear for shops or people that might know shops that have an XTC Clip. The few places I've tried have no idea what one is, but still tried offering a SIM-unlock.
Would anyone here happen to know of anywhere in this area (most specifically Newcastle-Upon-Tyne/Gateshead/South Shields/Sunderland) that has a Clip, or possibly another XDA-Developers member with one that I could offer a payment in person to?

I'm jumping over to this forum due to the fact my vibrant finally died on me : ( So I picked up the new mytouch, which brings me to the question....can I root and apply custom roms using the same methods as the slide...? I haven't seen anywhere about mods for this Ph I'm assuming cause its new. the new mytouch has potential and I definitely need to get rid of this horrible bloatware. Thanks in advance for any help.

Anyway, so the phone is the T-MOBILE MYTOUCH 4G (WHITE) by LG.
This is the closest forum I could find...so mods/staff, PLEASE don't ban me or fine me for the questions here...

Well first I want to UNLOCK my phone so I can take it to Europe...blah blah blah. I realise that I will have to pay some stupid 10+$ fee to get the unlock code...I have til Tuesday to endlessly google on a way to do it free...before my phone arrives.

i'd suggest you don't mess with stuff you don't need/don't know... there's a lot of technical stuff to know and you not knowing basically anything but wanting to unlock root and flash is the perfect recipe for some regrettable actions.
just get an unlock code for about 10 bucks and you're all set...

Thank you & I respect where you are coming from. I know I don't know anything about the Android world...I certainly didn't want an iPHONE as I don't like anything Apple...I'm a PC guy. I like to know what's going on when I'm working on a computer..NOT have it done for me Love the learning curve.
To further explain...I am assuming by rooting the phone I can upgrade the OS to the 4.0 Android system?...is that possible? From what I understand I'd only have the 2.2 that's already given...it's 2 point something IF I recall correctly.
IDEALLY, I'd have loved to have had a WebOS phone...but alas, HP farked it up and discontinued their products this past year...ah well.
So yes, still interested in rooting my phone to customise things

Ok...let's do this step-by-step if you can bear with me PLEASE.
At some point I'm supposed to be getting my phone TODAY...it hasn't arrived yet, even though UPS says online that they did. After a few frustrating calls, it turns out the "loaner" driver cheated the system by saying he delivered it when he never did...
AFTER I get my phone, of course I need to get acclimated to it. Should I assume that I must UNLOCK it first by paying some 10$ fee online?...and THEN going on to ROOT the phone?

Alright now I would love to help you out sir.
Let us clarify that you are purchasing the mytouch 4G by LG, not the htc mytouch 4g slide. And not the htc mytouch 4g.
I do not believe there is a very extensive development happening for the lg phone because it is a new copycat of the original mt4g. (Correct me if I'm wrong)
While the specs are rather similar, the internal workings of the phone, firmware, kernel, roms... Are most likely written completely differently.
Do not expect to be able to use anything you find in these forums. Nor the mytouch 4g (glacier) forums.
Sorry I believe you don't have a choice but to pay for the unlock code they provide. I'm not even sure you will be able to root that phone without directions made directly for that phone. Nothing in the mt4gs forums will be compatible.
You've got a chance in the glacier forums but I recommend asking around before you start messing with your lg phone, or risk bricking the phone.
Even if you are getting the lg 4g slider, its not even using the 1.2 ghz dual core processor. The specs are still closer to the mt4g either way, not the mt4gs
Edit: sadly I do not expect your phone to get an ota update for android 4.0, for a very long time if ever. Hopefully you get some luck and a community of people with your device have accumulated somewhere so that some development starts happening for you to try out newer versions of android... But when that does happen, odds are that the roms for your phone will be unstable because of the small community inevitably not having enough developers. I recommend always using the stock rom, if you want to enjoy top of the line technology, get the mt4gs, or maybe a better phone that will definitely get an official cyanogen mod 9, or is sold stock with android 4.0.
All that being said. Your purchase was not bad, spec wise. But if you are looking for aftermarket technology to make the phone 5x better, trade for a different phone.
The beauty of having an android phone is that it is open source. With aftermarket roms, you can push any phone to its limits and get the most out of what you paid for.

^ thank you for that. I'm not much into the (no offence) "geeky" side of all these ROMs and CUSTOMISATIONS...don't get me wrong...I'd love to get the most of this. I bought this phone, because it was cheap...that's the ONLY reason. I did NOT see a reason to pay hundreds upon hundreds for the current top-of-the-line phone. Just wanted a decent phone that did nice things for free or very close to it. I had been holding off for a very long time on getting a smartphone...this is my INTRO to your world. I signed a 2-year contract extension with T-Mobile.
IN the meantime, I shall be monitoring these pages and hopefully MOST of you beautiful geeks will scream "this phone is a must-have"...and THEN I'll shell out the bucks for a phone I could easily replace with what I have now.
I feel I want to spend money on a phone that will actually be GREAT for 2 years...ideally, that's when I feel personally I should upgrade to the next latest & greatest.
Yes this is the mytouch by LG...NOT the slide. It's got a black face, white back...3 "home" buttons on bottom.
MY misdelivered phone from yesterday thanks to a stupid UPS Driver, found its way into my hands this morning @ 6am while getting in my car...a great neighbour of mine knew when I left the house and walked my missing package over. So today of course I need to get jiggy with my phone and see how everything works, before I even think of UNLOCKING the phone

^upon purchasing this phone I was almost as clueless as you. But the reason I chose mt4gs is that it is futureproof. 1.2 dual core processor will run android 4.0 beautifully.
Since I purchased the phone I've been on these forums checking up on things atleast once a day if not 5x a day just so I'm up to date on things. It kind of gets addicting when everyone is trying to contribute their 2 cents to make the phone the best that it could be

Two possibilities - DHD update cancelled for the Telus carrier, or the update cancelled for ALL DHD models. None of these should affect the Desire S or Incredible S. We already have ROM leaks. There is no way in hell HTC would release the updates in China and not the rest of the world. We'll get the update, I'm 100% sure. (and seeing that you're from O2 Germany, you may be among the first to get it )
Thats about Desire HD not Desire S....lets keep it Desire S talk in here guys...least in terms of worrying if X is going to happen in the future...
