[Q]Anti-Glare Screen Protector - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Are there any good (aka easy to apply) screen protectors for the Xoom? I've seen the anti-glare on other devices but that was a while back.
Any good/bad stories?

I've had good luck with GreatShield antiglare protectors, bubbles aside. You can't tell the difference in color like with my protectors for my Nexus S 4G... I hate how most antiglare protectors do that on most phones with whites looking like little rainbow green and red specks. I recommend these!

I have the SGP Steinheil antiglare protector and like it... used the steamy bathroom application method and had no problems, though it was the 3rd protector I installed so Ivd had some practice. I've been pleased with quality and durability.

I'm using Maoni protectors. Easy handling w/o bubbles.

That looks like a pretty good screen protector but $20 seems a little on the steep side for me atm. Granted, tablet screen protectors are always going to be a bit more expensive.

I think you get what you pay for, as a general rule. If you haven't tried putting one on a tablet, though, I'd buy a cheap one or two from VZW or Wallyworld and practice so you don't get ticked about ruining a $20 protector. I found it much tougher than putting one on a phone, due to the screen size.

I personally wouldn't recommend anti-glare (unless you've seen it recently and know you like it). To my eyes, it makes any screen look very grainy.
Stay away from Zagg InvisibleShield - I have one on my Xoom and like it; but it's a tricky install. It took me a half hour to install it and it's perfect, though the opposite of easy!

I got the GreatShield from Amazon :http://www.amazon.com/GreatShield-A...HAEA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1318595684&sr=8-1
it comes with 3 screen protectors, a microfiber cloth and a card to remove bubbles for about $11.00. They still have it.
I used up one and then got the 2nd one down with minimal trouble. No stickness or residue, but these things stick tight unless you purposfully remove them.
Almost no graininess and virtually zero fingerprints, and no glare at all.
I would recommend.

Do you suggest this for the Samsung tablet also?

If they make one specifically for the Gtab, sure. The Xoom one has a little cutout for the front camera that may not match up for Gtab.

I've encountered 2 kinds of screen protectors soft ones which are so annoying because they bend and stick together the ones I've had from Zagg needed some kinda liquid spraying on the protector which always left marks on the side I sprayed. The other ones that I really like are hard ones I could hold 1 by the edge and it wouldn't go flimsy or anything and it was easy to apply just put 1 edge down on the screen and slide so it's against the side of the screen and then slowly apply the rest of it.
What kind is the Greatshield? I'm want to buy a Xoom but I'm holding off until I can find a screen protector I like and can apply easily. I've already wasted £20 on a screen protector which didn't work even though I followed the instruction video perfectly.

Great Shield is the hard one, and you don't need any kind of spray.

Verizon AntiGlare Screen Protectors. Worst ever?

I have to say, these are the worst screen protectors I have ever applied on any sort of electronic equipment. Picture quality looks like garbage and it feels horrible. The matte finish makes them feel gritty and a pain to use the phone. Cheap eBay screen protectors work better.
Anybody else used them?
I bought them. I'm stupid for doing so. Rocking the Zagg now. I guess I feel smarter...
Yeah. I never bought them. I received the Fascinate in a trade and the person included an extra. At first I thought they were just horrible at applying screen protectors but then I applied the spare and it looked exactly the same. :/
My friends all have Verizon Screen Proctectors for their phones, and I have to agree, they look like complete crap. I've just been recommending Steinheil and Reallook to them, and they ask why, and I show them my screen. Almost invisible, its like the screen protector isn't even there, and my friends are shocked.
Sent from a Limited Edition phone from a Premium app..
Zagg is worth it. Really is an "invisible" shield. Can't even tell it's there.
Sent from my Supersonic Desire HD using XDA App
Ehh, Zagg is ok. Really comes down to personal preference, but Zagg's matte look and feel isn't really what I would want in a screen protector. Steinheil's Ultra Crystal Clear Protector is amazing.
The Anti-glare screen protectors are garbage no matter where you get them from. I ordered some from ebay and LUCKILY I ordered some regular screen protectors as well and after about 5 mins with the anti-glare I took it off and trashed it and the others and put a regular one on.
Also, the mirror finish screen protectors are bad too
Yeah. That whole matte feel is not my deal. Honestly, cheap eBay screen protectors have been fine.for me with a perfect application and I am very picky about this stuff. I use invisible shields for their body shields though
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Agreed bought them when I had my Droid x and have to say "anti glare" is deffinately just a marketing ploy. If you take them back and tell them their crap they will give you a refund. That's what I did. I only reteerned two
OMG yes! Worst purchase I have ever made.

I too dont have a screen protector on mine even though i bought some and have them sitting in the desk..for some reason i think they will interfere with the sensitvity of the screen.
i made the mistake of buying two packs of verizon's screen protectors when i bought my phone. they were on clearance and i know why after trying one. they were horrible. i was reluctant to buy them even being on clearance after having sensitivity issues on my Rogue, but i figured if nothing else it would protect my screen until my online order of protectors showed up.
i use screen protectors that i bought off some random seller on ebay and they work fine. i get about 5 months or so of use from each one. very clear and no sensitivity issues. i dont know how necessary protectors are with the particular glass on Fascinates but i dont want to learn the hard way. i forget the protector is on there most of the time.

Exactly! But does everyone know that the Fascinate comes with Gorilla Glass, which is way tougher and scratch resistant? I am using mine "naked" so far, and no scratches yet.
So the screen looks great!
Anybody had any bad experiences going naked? (should I reword that? I don't want to hijack this thread!) Just looking for warnings about not using a screen protector.

All I can say is that I received my Fascinate used and there was a scratch on it, on the glass but to the side of the screen. Very light, but it was there. Screen protectors just give me a peace of mind hah.

I'm actually considering taking mine off, although the girl at Verizon actually did a good job of putting it on and mine is clear so I can't even really tell that it's there. But I definitely have more scratches on the screen protector than on the area around it (yay Gorilla Glass) and I'm wondering if the screen protector collects more fingerprints than the glass. Anyone know about that? I know some phones have oleophobic coatings but I'm not sure if the Fascinate is one of them.

The fascinate is not one of them, at least from my research.
I have thought about going naked. I am using the Steinheil Anti-fingerprint protectors for a number of reasons. I am sure no one here would like them because they degrade the screen quality but I love them. No finger prints, no glare, 2x faster finger motions (heh yea) across the protector vs. the stock screen.
I'd image that the screen is much like a car windscreen. It will look great for years to come but over time fine micro scratches will build up.
the screen protector they put on my phone came off by the time i got home from the store. heat must have warped it, and would no longer stick. ordered a different one online

Screen Protectors?

Are screen protectors worth it? Or do they just leave smudges in the future when you take them off? I found a nice case on amazon that I'm going to buy for my infuse, I'm trying to figure out if screen protectors are worth it?
Anybody?
The Naked Shield screen protector came highly recommended by a folk here on the forums. You can either get the full cover or just the screen (I got the screen with the body glove TPU case)
and it won't leave smudges, affects screen quality, but not by much if at all.
edit: Got mine for $3.75 on ebay ($7.00 for the body glove case)
Thanks,
I'm just going to get the Amzer Silicone Skin Jelly Case, looks nice enough for a casing. I'm not going to use a screen protector though. I just don't want to leave any marks on the screen if it does.
I've found that unless you put your phone in your pocket with keys that you don't really need a screen protector.

These thread are kind of pointless. I can understand the value of asking which screen protector or case protector is or are better.
It will cost you $5 to protect a $400+ piece of equipment.
What happens if your phone does get scratched...too late for a screen protector.
Gorilla glass DOES get scratched.
Apply a matt screen protector or a good quality one done the right way and you wont even notice it.
Your assuming that there are no downsides of having a protector. All though screen protectors are cheap and work well. They do affect the screen quality regardless of how well you put it on and its quality. It's personal opinion on how much it affects it though.
IMO it doesn't hurt it too much and I have one on.

If you're still looking for a screen protector I have the naked shield one. I just put it on my phone and it is great. It adds a rubbery finish but still slick when sliding. Unless you do a perfect application the screen does get imperfections that are noticible when looking at off angles (head on in low light it is not noticible)
I have an application with no bubbles and no dust and it looks great. But it is noticible.

Hmmm, very interesting features of Zagg's protectors. But is it glossy or matte? I really don't like fingerprints on the sun, so matte protector may reduce this paintbrush effect

I was about to suggest military shield, but I think I'm going to try skinomi because its half the price with decent reviews (via amazon). I have the military shield on my phone screen, and it is freaking awesome. Crystal clear, NEVER scratches so it seems, fairly resistant to fingerprints, and it has a nice, natural feel to it. Zagg on my cousins vibrant felt waaaaaay too sticky/tacky. Just not natural at all. Will let y'all know when I order/test the skinomi protector.

I find just getting any "Matte" screen protector works wonders. It scatters light, and doesn't seem to attract fingerprints the way those other shiny guards do. I got one on Ebay for $3. Just type in Matte screen protector touchpad for a cheap solution.

Well its pretty easy, you just need a sticky tape and a good eye.
You need to do it in a clean room, and obviously you need to clean the screen first.
If you failed at the first attempt, just peel off and try again, no harm on doing that.
The easiest way to align it is to aim for the camera hole and the home button, just make sure they are centered when u aim it.
If you have bubbles after application, this is most probably caused by dust (or just bad quality screen protector) if it is a dust, just use the sticky tape to remove the dust. The sticky tape will not leave any mark on your screen nor the screen protector.
Hope this tips will help
Putting it on in a steamy bathroom also helps keep the dust out of the air. On your first attempt, try to peel it off of the backing as you apply it, pushing trapped air out as you go. It gets a bit trickier when you have to handle the whole thing peeled off.
Okay, so after using the skinomi skin for about a week now, I have to say I like it. One of the reasons I got my stylus was because I hated fingerprint smudges on the screen, and with the skinomi, it is hard to see any smudges after multiple uses. May ditch my stylus now, who knows.
Anyways, a couple things to note:
1) as another user stated, put the skinomi on after a hot shower with the door closed. You want the mirrors good and steamed up
2) line up the home button first. My skinomi is a little off and so its closer to one edge of the screen than the other. No biggie, really, just full disclosure
3) don't worry about the camera hole so much. For one, camera doesn't work on cm9 anyways. For two, even if it seems like the skinomi is a little bit over the lens, I don't think its a big enough of a deal. You could line it up perfectly on the camera, but you run the risk of your home button being overlapped by some of the skin
4) while squeegeeing, use the included cloth to wipe up any solution that gets pushed to the edges. Maybe not necessary, but I did anyways
5) once you are done, IT WILL LOOK LIKE THE CRAPPIEST SKIN/SCREEN PROTECTOR EVER. Again, don't worry. After 2 or 3 days, it will should look great.
I would post pics, but what's the point? If anyone wants, I guess I could. anyways, for about 7 bucks, I would definitely recommend the skinomi protector. It does not feel all tacky like the zagg stuff, its actually pretty nice.

No full coverage screen protectors

While the curving of the glass at the ends make is easier for swiping gestures, it practically makes it impossible for manufacturers to make edge to edge screen protectors for the device :crying: It was the same case with the i9300. Most of them would start lifting at the edges or have dust and other crap stuck underneath. And smaller screen protectors ruin the look of the plain black glass with their edges.
So don't use one....

Easier said than done. This has been repeated like a million times before, gorilla glass WILL scratch. Might be more resistant, but it will. Also don't forget, say someone works in a dusty environment (construction) or maybe even a trip to the beach. A very good chance that the screen is going to be scratched. One could however argue that its a phone, supposed to be used and get scratched.
I am just pointing out one of the shortcomings of a screen that curves at the edges. Its not like I am getting people to sign a 'petition' for a flat glass

I think its safe to say it won't be as popular as the GS3. Even though all the major manufacturers were producing protectors for it, I still couldn't get my hands on a good edge to edge one.

+1 on this. I just think that dry-apply screen protectors aren't as grippy as wet-apply.
Haven't used wet application types for some time, but don't they scratch if you put pressure on them, like fluid under the screen protector? Not to mention the sticky feeling one gets with the wet types.

It was a dry apply and it was very very sticky, not like those static cling ones. Once any part adheres to the screen, it's impossible to readjust without making things messy.

Well if they made a tempered glass screen protector for the Galaxy Nexus, I'm pretty sure they'll make one for the Nexus 4.
You will either have to get the glass overlay type or a wet protector like xoskins http://xoskins.com/cell-phone-skin-...protectors/google-nexus-4-full-body-protector if you want all of the glass covered. I shared a 40% off coupon a few days ago but that's expired now. The code sprintxo may still work. They were the best ones on my nexus that actually fit and covered all the glass.
There is a standard one and something else called as 'case fit' on the xoskins website. Does the latter mean its not edge to edge so that you can use cases with it?

Any screen protectors that don't suck?

I just got my essential phone and I'm really honestly digging it. I think that it's a very nice phone that fits my needs well.
However, within a day and a half I have already scratched my screen. Its dead center on the screen and like an inch long Literally got the phone on Saturday and scratched it by Monday early AM. I didn't do anything with the phone besides take it in and out of my pocket. Didn't even make it to work with the phone yet. So I'm pretty upset about that.
I know it's gorilla glass 5, but I have never scratched a phone so quick before. Hell my old phone (Moto X pure) Only had one small scratch after running it for 2.5 years without any screen protection at all, including numerous drops and rough handling.
So I guess a screen protector is a must. I ordered a tudia case and a tempered glass screen protector off Amazon. The screen protector is garbage. I hate it. The edges of the screen protector do NOT stick down, even without the case. The edge all the way around the screen is lifted. It looks terrible.
Are there any screen protectors for this phone that are actually decent? I would rather deal with the chance of more scratches than stare at this awful screen protector with unstuck edges.
Photo of the terrible edges.
I'm curious to know too
I haven't found a good tempered glass for this phone. They all seem to have issues. I've been using the IQ Shield wet install screen protector. Not tempered glass but looks and feels great (almost as smooth as glass), self healing and works with cases if you get the case friendly version.

glass screen protectors are nicer, but they suck on this phone.
I went with wet install plastic in the end because it does the main reason for one, protect from scratches, I'm confident it will.
I just hate the wet install process.
but my experience with glass is it doesn't protect from breaking anyway. any significant hit that would break the screen will break the screen no matter what. I think a bumper case is most effective.
I'm using the this one.

You need to clean your screen really, really, really good before you apply it.
Any oils will show up as a rainbow effect or something close.
I've been using it for weeks now with no lifting with a Tudia case.
Some people say they pop off. That has not been my experience. YMMV

I also use this one. I have actually already gone through 5 of them... It seems like some of them are more sticky than others maybe. Initially I used them without out a case and they would come off all the time, but since I've had the Tudia case 1 fell off and the new one has been on there 3 weeks.
My opinion is they are hit or miss... just hope 1 of 3 is good.

My guess is that these don't stick to the edges as well, but they are black, so you can't see it, therefor they peel off

That is correct, but I have tried a couple of other brands as well and they are all like that. I only continue to buy these because there come as a 3 pack and are like $10.

What I don't understand is why they are having such an issue with it, I had the LG V20 and it has curved edges, but they make them for it with no issues

Manufacturers not that bright?
I use incipio, be careful, the installation instructions are very tricky, I messed up mine while installing, lost 40$
I'm waiting to see if they will send me a new one
So is the Incipio screen protector any good? I don't even care that it's $40, if it sticks down properly without the bubble around the edges I'll buy it.
I am also interested in finding a better screen protector. I have been using the IQ Shield LiQuidSkin, which worked great for a few weeks, but now a corner is peeling up, I assume from pulling it in and out of my pocket. I might go ahead and get another one if I can't find anything better. Would love a tempered glass protector if someone actually makes a decent one!

Bought a 3 pack of the ozeros on Amazon. 1st on sucked. 2nd one I put on a few weeks later has been perfect. No rainbow of adhesion issues. Use a clear tpu case with it as well.

Where did you purchase? I'm not even seeing it for the Essential PH-1 on the official website....Nevermind, had to do a manual search for our model.
