[Q] CWM backup - LG Optimus 3D

Hey guys. A question for you. I'm coming from galaxy s. I'm no noob. With the sgs you could restore your backup in clockwork if you screwed up. Can't you do this with o3d (reading about people bricking their device) . If not, what's the point with a backup?

Where did you hear the backups aren't working?
Works fine, no bricks. I used the backups a lot when I'm tweaking my phone.
I believe the people who were getting bricked phones from cwm are just using a different recovery. Something like thrill using Optimus 3D's recovery

Most users don't have a bricking problem. Yea CWM works like its supposed to. For example, yesterday, I was changing build.prop. Caused a boot loop. Pulled battery, Went to recovery, restored backup.
Never bricked my phone, but there are many reasons for bricking, you'll be fine.

hey just out of curosity what are the most common ways to brick the LG? just want a heads up on what to avoid doing, because i bought my lg 3d from a friend already rooted cwm and aura rom. Just wondering if i wanted to go back to like rogers stock what would i have to do?

The "bricking" with CWM is caused when you update the system with an LG Rom via OTA or Web Updater and you have the CWM recovery partition instead of the LG original one.
If you install the same ROM from a zip via CWM backup recovery it works like a charm.

To flash recovery the correct way, head on over to here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
If by clock mod you mean ROM manager, you can. But you will get your phone bricked if something goes south.
This phone is unbrickable, almost. Nvflash cwm on it and flash roms via it.
Search is your diaper friend.

So yes, and no...but yes. Confused yet?
You CAN use Rom Manager to flash a recovery and do backups / flash roms. The only issue comes up when you bork something up, and by you I mean rom manager of course, and you get a boot loop and have to pull the battery to get into recovery....you can't. It's got to do with the partitions RM uses I think. If you read enough you'll see that RM "fake flashes" CWM to your phone and you can't access it if it gets borked. Soooo you use Nvidia's NVFlash utility to flash CWM to your phones recovery partition. Then you're good to go. If you dig up the old CM7 thread, Cyanogen basically said that NVFlash replaces Fastboot for the G2x, but he uses RM from then on out.
Sooo use TGA_Gunnman's tool linked in the post above to install CWM the first time, then use RM is you so choose too. FWIW I've never used RM.
!
Thank you! got it now
i've been reading and trying the ICS roms, none seem to be as stable as a gingerbread rom.
what are you guys using?

is v6 built in or do i need to port and flash?
I don't understand why people tell you to use ROM manager.
Only use nvflash to flash clockwork, and ONLY use ROM manager to rename your backups and to boot into recovery. Never use ROM manager to flash ANYTHING.
ICS ROMs are all pretty much betas for this phone. If you want stable stay with stock or cm7.

easiest is to just flash synergy. it backs it up for you without doing anything and, in my opinion, an awesome rom to try first anyways
I don't believe restoring your nandroid will fix your imei. You should backup using qpst and also with the flashable zip that synergy has now implemented to be safe
synergy made a script you can flash in cwm to back it up but it's not proven to restore yet since no one has had to

That backs up your EFS partition, block or what ever you want to call it. Restoring that will allow you to get data back but you will always be roaming. I have backed up my EFS, backed up using QPST and did the manual way of backing up Synergy style. You can never be too safe. Synergy is a nice rom but if you don't want to flash it there is directions on how to pull the info that the Synergy script does.

Thanks for the info.
So if you just root and unlock there is nothing to worry about with this I assume? Also, TW ICS Roms should be safe? Is it just when flashing an JB ROM this issue can arise?
Just rooting and unlocking you should be fine. Flashing any ROM has the possibility of losing your IMEI but it seems more prevalent on AOSP ROMs.

So what's the point of backing it up if you lose it and restore it you are still stuck with a roaming device. And not functioning how it should be stock.

I think it shows an R for roaming but you are actually not roaming. So your device supposedly is working, just has a graphical glitch. At least the device works I guess but still sucks and would send back for another one anyway.
Wonder why if this gets screwed they make it impossible to recover from. Even if you bring it to Verizon they can't do anything about it?
If this happens and you have insurance. You 'lost your phone' and get a new one haha

[Q] Why am I stuck on recover even after Nandroid restore?

Here's phone info prior to the mess:
v21y
mokeeOS
latest gb harsh kernel
CWM v5.0.2.0
I went ahead and tried to flash a new rom and a new kernel. I guess it wasn't compatible and got stuck on boot animation for over 30mins. So i thought I'd pulled the battery. I did a nandroid restore (used it before and works) and it wont boot into the system. It just goes back to recovery.
Then I tried to flash mokeeOS and harsh kernel. After rebooting it goes back into recovery.
I tried many roms / kernels that previously work and it still goes back to recovery. I tried nvflashing recoveries (CWM touch, twrp), same thing happens. Now what should I do?
update: I flashed stock recovery. It shows an arrow going out the box and an android.
update: this clean up batch tool fixed it for me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24635755
Never heard you say you wiped/formatted anything
if not there will be residue from your old ROM/kernel and you may have the same situation

[Q] 2 Important questions before flashing

Before I start I would like to thank you in advance for dedicating your time to help me here (assuming that you did).I couldn't find the answers on the forums even though I searched.
1. Is there any way to backup my 2.2.1 froyo rom along with the kernel and baseband and EVERYTHING to make sure that if I take it back for repairs they can't accuse me of anything?
2. I have P500H and not the normal P500 mentioned in these forums, is there any risk of brick by flashing another rom designed for P500? And if it does work, will all of my cellular connectivity (RIL, calls, sms, 3G) keep working?

[Q] CWM vs TWRP

I have a TF300T coming in the mail Wed and I'm going to start playing with it here soon, I've been flashing my SPH-L710 for over a year now using CWM and I am very familiar with it but I keep hearing in the forums not to use it, but can't find a reason. I do have about 20 plus hours of reading in the TF300T thread, most people are saying to use TWRP. Just wondering why? I will most likely be running PACman just because I love that ROM.

I'm on Pac-man welcome
Personally TWRP is easier to use and you save your volume buttons from being over pressed. I think there was some bug about CWM not being able to flash some ROMs, but I've never run into any problems with TWRP ( that weren't caused by my own stupidity ).
Tip:
Before flashing, make sure your bootloader is compatible with everything you are flashing. Also make NvFlash Backups ASAP.
Ty cmendonc2, that's what I thought about CWM not being able to flash some ROMS. I was reading through the NVflash thread last night and it looks to be very intimidating at first as well as the bootloader. I'm sure it's not that bad, I just need to get the tablet here so I can start playing with it. Sound to me that the bootloader is main central nerve of the tablet. EVERTHING revolves around it.

CWM has problems on this device since JB. It can cause bricks so stay with TWRP which is better anyway.

To be safe, do the NvFlash backups and use the modified CWM recovery that you have to install with that.
