[Q] How to choose a dock connector for my iPad ? - General Questions and Answers

Damn! The dock connector dock connector of my iPad didn’t work anymore. I bought this iPad about 1 year ago. It works well all the time, so does the dock connector. But I pull the dock directly yesterday, then…
I have search it in Google and so many results. I lost my mind on this.
Have any good ideas? Thanks!

Thats for an older tablet that viewsonic sells (used to sell)... if you search on ebay, viewsonic tablet you will see several different ones.
Not Available (YET)
At the 2011 CES last week, I had the chance to speak to Ann Macneela from ViewSonic. She said the dock is not available yet although will be coming out "soon".
Confirmation!
I can confirm the dock for Malata Zpad T2 fits ViewSonic gTablet! I just got mine in from an eBay auction and it's PERFECT!
After booting the tablet with the LAN connected, that works flawlessly. ES File Explorer finds my network under the LAN tab and I can copy/paste/stream files.
The HDMI (with audio) also works great!
The gTab easily drops into the dock connector and isn't wobbly at all (like I thought it might be).. No more need to plug in the cord by the nightstand, this is awesome!
Product Description
This new docking station is designed to hold the Viewsonic GTablet and Malata Zpad T2 tablet devices at a perfect viewing angle. Increase the function of your tablet with additionals connections for HDMI out, Ethernet (LAN), USB, and power.
Technical Details
* Dock for Malata Zpad T2 fits ViewSonic G tablet also
* Adds HDMI out
* Adds LAN port
* Adds USB port
Outstanding! This shows up for 50 bones on Ebay (plus 10 for shipping). May have to grab one of these ASAP. Any tricks for network recognition for streaming???

That dock in the OP and the one directly above is NOT for the GTab, its for the V1250 tablet that can be found here...
http://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-V1250-Tablet-Pentium-Centrino/dp/B0000X10QU
The one that sd_prototype commented about IS for the GTab. I'd hate for people to get mislead here and order incorrect items.

Question about the dock...
Does the power pass through the dock and charge the tablet... i.e. does the docking port act as a charging port also. I.E. hook power up to dock. place tablet in dock, tablet is now charging and docked.
OR
is it the other way around? Does the unit power the dock. i.e place tablet in dock, hook power up to TABLET.
OR
is it what i fear and you have to use a power adapter for both devices at once? i.e. place tablet in dock, attach power cord to dock and to tablet separately.
IF the dock can charge my device... then i want one... bad.
IF i need to also have my power adapter... i kinda can live without it.
IF i need a power adapter for both... not really that interested.
(the ideal situation here would be to buy two, one and home one for work, take table with me, place in dock at work, device charges. Leave in dock at home, device also chargers....)
I would also like to know the answers to above post.

I'll try to be brief in the answer
Dock does nothing without power... It doesn't come with a charger but can use the same one that came with your tab. Charger goes to the dock, tab goes on, it's charging.
That's why most people end up getting another charger; to leave one in the dock at all times and have a spare in a laptop bag or at the office as a 'just in case'
Hope that helps!
check my sig if you need any further information, REMEMBER the dock in the thread is incorrect...

Caution the dock in this thread will not work for the G-Tablet. From what I have read the Malata Zpad dock is compatible with our G-Tablet. If you are looking for a Dock, but not power I have this stand and it works well for me. http://www.xentriswireless.com/Corp/Targus-Acryllic-Mini-Stand-Clear-P2776.aspx
This stand allows you to place you G-Table in two angles 45 and 90 very sturdy. I use this stand with my keyboard and mouse combo. If you are looking for a keyboard and mouse that works here is the link: http://www.google.com/products/cata...log_result&ct=image&resnum=5&ved=0CDcQ8gIwBA#

Dock is legit and works; shipping has been an issue for some. This dock comes from a China on a very slow boat. That said, mine arrived in a little over a month, works as expected, is the Malata dock and I am pleased overall, although the viewing angle is not necessarily ideal (so I also ordered from Wit-global a "leather" case with keyboard that I also like quite well). for me the dock was essential to use the HDMI out.
Are you using default Viewsonic GTablet ROM or customized ROM ?
I'm going to have docks in stock tomorrow Everything gets shipped priority and most are getting them in 2 to 3 days, I know that there have been some having issues with shipping with mmobiles.

[Q] G Tab Dock connector

Does anyone know what is compatible with the dock connector? does it work with the apple XX pin connector or with the samsung version for example? is there a stand alone charger that connects with this? where can i find a dock?
As far as I can tell from reading through the forum, the dock is the only thing compatible with the docking connector. No Apple accessories, no Samsung accesories - just the Malata dock at the moment.
You can get a dock in the marketplace (which you can have access to after 8 posts) when they're in stock from it2Steve...
Seems silly to have to post 8 times to even see the Marketplace. Here's my first.

Modding the original samsung dock

After buying the dock and seeing that I've paid $24 only for a piece of plastic with a connector I decided to dig a little deeper into it to make it better.
So, I was assimilating information from these topics:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155065
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16342363&postcount=4
I started to put my knowledge at work and this is what came out - see attachments.
Basically I can now use my charger of choice and at the same time I can plug in USB stuff.
The small relay inside is switching the power supply for the USB host from the 5V output of the tablet to the main 5V supply when you are plugging in the power adapter (the original or non-original).
The button next to the USB host (I know .. it is white .. but they were not having other colors at the electronics store ) has the function to switch the connection of the USB port from the regular OTG to the circuit that is enabling the AC charging on the tablet. So, when I'm not using the usb host capabilities the tablet will charge in fast mode, with full current.
There is one interesting thing I've found. If I'm plugging in the tablet with the switch in the fast-charge mode and after that I'm switching to USB-Host mode, the tablet will still continue to charge in AC mode (see snapshots for proof ).
I have to mention that all the original functionality of the dock has been preserved and the 30 pin connector at the back can still be used with the original intent (with the proper cables).
If anyone want to replicate this mod and needs additional details, just ask and I'll gladly answer.
Very cool. Lots of great details and pics.
One word: Brilliant.
Good work mate.
Awesome what about a HDMI port?
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 using Tapatalk
The hdmi has to wait a little. I have ordered a mhl adapter on ebay but is gonna take a while until will arive. An on top of that I need to find time in my crowded schedule.
Could you please supply the wiring schematic diagram of your mod? That would be a lot helpful. Thank you.
This is awesome, great work! Shame it doesn't come with that full USB port stock. If I get one of these tabs, I'll definitely be looking to repeat your work.

awesome, can't wait to see your update of HDMI
I'm sorry not to have provided the requested info but my daily job is currently killing all my time (including the theoretically spare time). I'll draw the schematics ASAP and also I'll re-order the MHL adapter since the first one got lost in the mail (and I've been reimbursed).
Anyway, as a heads-up - I'm thinking to put the MHL adapter on top of the dock so I'll keep the original port accessible (and also the audio jack). I still don't know how exactly I'm going to do this ... but I think I'll figure it out when the time will come.
thats quite innovative

apparently the dock has hdmi passthrough meaning you still need the samsung hdmi adapter (http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/galaxy-tab-accessories/EPL-3PHPBEGSTA) I haven't yet tried my dock with my hdmi adapter, I will do tomorrow and let you know - good luck incorporating that too
awesome job mate...schematics would be really helpful. Can't do this mod on my own, but my father is more than capable...I think i have project for him (if you can find some time to draw those schematics off course )
Would it be possible to modify the dock to disable data and only enable AC charging? I'm using the Tab in my car and every car charger I use seems to only send 500mA of current to the Tab so it dies a slow death in my car and needs to be recharged at home once a week or so.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Can you show where you soldered wires to in the dock?
Bought one and want to charge at same time as watch movies from usb device.
Anybody help me?
Have you thought about making and selling these?. I for one would certainly buy one!. Wouldn't have the balls to try and do it myself...... av
Hi guys,
I've put together some schematics. Sorry for the lack of very deep details but I can not take the glue off my board and other hi-def picture I was unable to find so you will have to use an ohmmeter to find out the exact pins based on the clues in the picture.
Basically, in the attached picture is the implementation I currently have in the dock. Due to the lack of free time I was unable to continue with implementing the MHL adapter inside so I guess I'll drop that one.
If you need any details based on the attached picture do not hesitate to ask.
Full size picture: http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/83/dockmod.png
And to answer the ones asking if I'm thinking to sell these : Actually that thought crossed my mind. I have other mods done on my Galaxy Nexus also (see the Ringke inductive charging mod) and also other great stuff that I'm building by exercising my hobby. Unfortunately, when I'm pushing like 70-80 hours a week on my daily job there is little to none spare time left .. and the little I got I'm spending it with my son. In a relative future when I'll have more spare time (or no job) I'll consider starting a business based on the know-how I've gathered until now.
thanks for update...
Just purchased the break out board so when arrives will give this a go!!!
Also found this if anybody wants to try the dock...

usb host, hdmi & charge...AT THE SAME TIME!
I just wanted to point out a similar thread posted in the "galaxy tab plus accessories" forum. This may have already been done before but i figured it would be much bigger news if so. XDA member "emil_b" claims to have modified the multimedia dock to simultaneously do hdmi out, trickle charge the tab , & serve as usb host! In case some of u may not know, the same dock works with ALL tab variants(PERSONALLY ONLY TESTED WITH P1000, P7100, P6200, P6210 BUT 99% CERTAIN) so if this proves true, this should be shared with all the other tab forums in hopes that it can be made into an actual product.

but the p1000 have 7zoll and my tab have 8,9 and the pin is landscape
i cut the dockstation and my GT-7310 works wonderfull with the ( i say modded ) dock.
mini hdmi works and the rest too. only one problem is there now, i but a little piece of paper behind the tab and dock, for the perfect fit xD
okay the cuts look terrible but i work on them
sorry for my english but i hope you can see on the pics what i mean gg

Why did I buy the dock ?

I have had my Infinity TF700 for few months and love it. It is perfect size, it is light and durable. I just got oh your the docking station for it today. Why did I buy this dock ? I see no real practical use out of it except make it heavier and look more like a cheap notebook PC. I do like the extra SD slot, and the usb port is nice, but I allready have the ASUS adapter to USB for the tab. Maybe I just need to get use to it ?? Are there any more good practical reasons for the dock that I am overlooking. ??
And one question: Since there are now 2 batteries (tablet battery and dock battery) if 1 of the batteries dies (goes to 0%) will it still run if the other battery has like 50% ?
Cheers !

Once the tablet battery hits 70-80%, it varies per Rom it seems, It will stop pulling from the tablet and run the dock to 0 first, then continue to drain the battery in the tablet. The dock is good for a laptop replacement, it makes it a ton easier and quicker to type things rather than having to tap or swipe them, like typing up this on on xda but I am on desktop ATM. And yes the tablet should still run when the dock hits 0%.
Tylor
I suppose an appropriate answer to your question may be a question: why did you buy the dock?
I personally bought it so I could work on my papers or work docks away from the office or without my big lap top. I'd hate to write a paper on a touch screen.
Well, can't tell why YOU bought it But I did it primarily for the ease of typing. I'm using my Infinity for work, and with the keydock it's just perfect to capture meeting minutes, create mind maps and obviously to do the mail and calendar stuff. As a big GTD (getting things done) fanatic, I simply love it that whenever I have this great idea of something I should consider or act on, I just have to open the lid and type away.
Also the additional power is great, as I can't stress my Infinity hard enough to drain the complete batteries during one business day. Typically I charge over night, and -depending on how the day goes- there is more than enough power left to do browsing and reading at home.
My Infinity is relatively new, but soon I will have my first business trip where I want to try to leave without my notebook and just take the Infinity with me.
I find the dock useful for obvious tasks such as typing blocks of text. But there is definite room for improvement in its successor. I find that typing with the touchpad on can be quite tricky without accidentally moving the cursor mid-sentence. I have to exaggerate the arch of my hands over the touchpad area to avoid this issue. I haven't experienced this same problem on a similar sized netbook. I would like to see a keyboard with an even larger battery to make the keyboard heavy enough to make its center of gravity secure enough that the risk of tipping forward becomes neglible. Also, I am not certain why, but scrolling down a page with the arrow keys is not smooth like it is on a PC. Instead, it just moves the cursor from one box to another. Sometimes I would prefer to scroll the page with the arrow keys rather than with the two finger swipe gesture.

Want to hear something funny. I took your advice and pluged in my usb dongle for the mouse and yes it is a nice addon. I also see my wireless keyboard works also, so I am typing on my PC keyboard and using my PC mouse through the Tablet Keyboard/Dock ... : ) Could have probably cut out the middle man (the dock) and just plugged my usb dongle into the tab.
For me, the main thing with the dock is that extra battery allowed me to watch movies and browse the internet longer, also a tablet holder so I can put it next to my labtop and watch movies while working on my laptop.

Groovy man...
Looks like I can do the dock now... it's only money
Have the same skin as you...
One thing I've noticed (at least on a stock rom). Is that if your dock is 100% charged and your tablet is at 0% you can charge the tablet off the dock. I've done that many times, quite nice
Besides the obvious upsides of easier typing, longer battery life, and more connectivity I bought the dock because along with a bluetooth mouse it turns the tf700 into a killer remote desktop machine. I am a web developer so instead of maintanining two development environments one on my fast desktop and one on a laptop I just use the tf700 with dock and bluetooth mouse + splashtop to work remotely on my desktop. It works absolutely great as a laptop replacement in this case if you have sharp enough eyes to work on a 1920x1080 windows desktop on a 10" screen.

[Q] Dock for Car

Hey guys,
i need some help / ideas for the best solution for my "docking"-problem in my car.
I have a bmw and since there are no snap-in adapters for htc i have to go over audiojack for listening music with spotify and i can't just put it to the place where the audiojack is because i have to control music with the touchscreen (iDrive 1 so no bt-audioplayback/control...).
Now i got 2 problems:
1. the cable looks ugly when its plugged in the phone and
2. i have no idea where to place my holder because every place i put the ugly holder the car looks cheapy.
So, my idea is to go over the pogo-pins!
Yeah pogo-pins but i don't know the assignment of the pins so the solution would be the cr s650 dock.
BUT! i think i my car won't be able to provide enough power through usb (is it possible to power the dock with usb?!).
The plan was to place the dock (please see the attachment) in the red circle and put the cable under the cover to the usb charger and the audiojack.
And also i have to modify the dock so i can plug in a jack into the dock or just solder a cable or whatever...
So my questions are, do you think this will work? And what problems i will have implementing this? Any other better ideas maybe?
Thanks for help and sorry for my bad english i think
No ideas?

I have no idea about the pogo pin dock, but I would avoid making any permanent modifications to a BMW and deal with the ugly look...it will decrease the resale value...you could always take the dock down when not in use (which is what I do)
Regarding the pogo dock, Make sure that the phone stays still and will not fall off the dock with some hard driving.
Not the prettiest solution, but I use this: http://www.amazon.com/Mountek-nGroo...1131802&sr=8-1&keywords=cd+player+phone+mount
and just hard wired a power cable behind the dash (as to not have wires all over coming from my cig lighter)
The reason I went for that dock is because the phone is a lot closer and more accessible vs mounted to the windshield or elsewhere...also, regarding your proposed placement: having it down by the gear shift while driving would be pretty disorienting to me using GPS
