URGENT - Captivate General

Hi, I have a serious problem with my phone. So here's the long story (sorry).
First I turned off my phone and turned it back on but it froze at the S logo and went on vibrating every once in a while.
I used odin to flash it but it restored it to eclair 2.1 and all my photos and music are gone. I was wondering if there is a way to restore the lost data.
Thanks.

Basically, no. Sorry.

My thoughts too. Unless u had them on ur external card the wipe erases them all.
Sent from my Phoenix JS7 run Samsung Captivate

Also, I was on android 2.2 prior to the flash but after, it's 2.1 with the AT&T start screen, is there a way to revert back to 2.2 rogers?

Only a master clear or formatting the internal storage would do that. A simple odin one click flash will not cause that.

[Q] Official update while rooted?

Okay I am staring this thread because there are mixed answers in the official update thread and this might give one spot for noobs like me that are not flash addicts a place to find the quick answer.
Here is my setup:I am rooted, running a bone stock JH7 rom, ROM Manager installed, Circle Battery Mod installed, other than that no custom kernels, modems, radios, etc. I do have a couple programs that require root access like ROM Manager, AdFree, and ClockSync. Already installed kies mini and have it all set up per the instructions on samsung's website. Just waiting for the update to go live.
Here are my questions:
1) Do I need to unroot?
2) Do I or should I uninstall any apps that require root access or change the recovery image (ROM Manager/Clockwork Recovery)
3) Should I remove both my external SD and my SIM prior to flashing?
4) What data will I lose and how do I back it up? (I have read that SD cards are left alone just system data like call logs, sms, contacts, email setup, saved passwords are lost) I have Lookout installed so I know my contacts are backed up.
5) Could someone way smarter than me please do a quick write up that is more detailed on the steps needed to complete this update AND keep all your data? I don't mind reinstalling apps (just hope I don't lose all of my angry birds progress )
All of these questions are not address in any of the "official" information other than "you should back up any data you don't want to lose" but gives no steps on how to do it.
Same question here, I'm rooted with TiBU and voodoo lagfix and that's it., well besides deleting all bloatware. Still on eclair jh7. Wish I had done lagfix months ago, but I don't have a computer.
Hey guys, what's this button d....

If you have a modded phone the smart thing would be to wait at least a few days before installing the update in case the rollout doesn't go as planned. These are the kind of things AT$T has probably been dreading as far as Froyo is concerned because I'm sure that come tomorrow their customer service lines are gonna be blazing like a CA wildfire due to issues with not completely stock phones and thousands of different configurations causing update glitches. I wouldn't be in such a hurry to update until I see how it goes for the "gotta have it now" sheep taking the first plunge.

Remember OCLF is bad, Mmmkay? Better lagfixes such as Voodoo and ULF
All lag fix should be removed. Otherwise, you will very likely end up with a bricked phone.
You can install Kies Mini now and connect your phone. If your phone is recognized without problem, you're good to go. Kies Mini is your only way to update the firmware.
I can't answer most of your questions, but I will recommend getting Titanium Backup. You can at least backup your app data since you're so concerned about your Angry Birds score. I think you can probably restore that after flash.

Did you copy the TiBU folder to your PC after doing a batch backup of your apps? That's the only way to reliably save a backup.

Not to be a negative Nancy, I understand some want to stay as close as possible to stock, but I'd just wait for a custom ROM to be built that de-bloats, adds speed, better GPS, etc... Cog 4 has a really stock look, and works really well; check it out. And with time there will only be others that will improve on the great ROM's we already have!

The other smart thing to do would be locate the TiBu backup folder on the external SD card. That way even a brick requiring reformatting the internal sdcard partition can be fully recovered from. Just take out the external card while restoring to stock, then root, get TiBu, point it to the reinserted external sd card, and boom, back in business.

You should use OCLF app to remove the lag fix. Don't do factory reset or flash another ROM. You may brick your phone that way. That's why I don't use any lagfix.

One last cry for help for my Infuse 4G (Rogers)

One last cry for help before I honestly take this phone in my garage and go to town on it with a sledge hammer!!!!
I bought this used Infuse 4G (Rogers). But I can't do I clean wipe to get rid of the previous owner's information, this google account is driving me crazy , it keeps trying to login to the guy's account and putting in my own google account doesn't do any good either because it still asks for the original account's password when i try accessing the market. So, a clean wipe/factory reset would be the ideal thing to do i believe. A traditional Factory Reset through Setting>Privacy>Factory Reset would just freeze my phone on a multi-colored screwed up screen and nothing happens until i reflash. Trying to wipe through ROM Manager (manual management) also does the exact same thing.
I am currently on this rom ..... http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1193927 .... Its the only one that works besides the AT&T 2.3.5 (but i can't root that one).
Anyways, people have suggested gtg_ultimate_unbrick, but all that does is freezes my phone on the black samsung screen.
Please guys, I know this can be done .... But I'm not exactly an expert, as a matter of fact, I'm a noob to Android phones.....lol
where does it freeze when you do the ultimate unbrick. Did it simply not boot after you odin'ed back to stock?

If you are rooted you can't and on a ron you can't do a manual factory reset. Boot into recovery wipe factory and cache and dalvik then flash a rom or Odin back to stock then you'll be good

Odd that you still have there account after flasHing roms unless you did a backup and restore with cwm or titanium.
Have you tried a factory reset from settings> privacy? This will wipe the internal sd card so backup any media or other files on it to the external one.

Stool of this was very weird, there is no reason a Rogers infuse should have multi color junk or broken recovery. I'll bet the last owner tried to flash something they shouldn't have. Glad it got to a point that you can use it though. Hope it is the last issues you have with it.

Lock Pattern Screen

Hi I have flashed my phone with a few roms and now that I have flashed any new rom and even whipped out and reformatted my sd card etc. I get the screen unlock pattern all the time.... even though all I have to do is swipe anywhere and not input a pattern unlock its really annoying!
Can anyone direct me on how I should go about this?
I currently flashed :
[Heimdall][One-Click][UVKJ6] The KJ6 Heimdall One-Click Collection [12/11/2011]
But I want to clean it out completely and start all over without the worry of this unlock pattern!

Yeah, that's the one I personally always go back to that one to get a clean start. So far it's worked well for me.
As for what ROM, man, that's subjective I just read that Whitehawkx relased Valhalla Final. As for me I currently have Octane. I'd probably go to KG4, then stock KJ6, and maybe go to something custom from there. Others may have different ideas, though.

To be fair, the one clicks, nor do any other method we tried (odin flashing, cwm falshing), reset EVERYTHING. The thread regarding incorrect time zones required a "hard reset" to get everything right again. Not sure if this should apply to this thread, but worth mentioning.

Do you mean that you see the lockscreen when booting for the first time after oneclick? It looks like a crappy low res lockscreen? If so, just enter your old pin/password. It wont ask again... Until you setup protected lockscreen again.
If not, and what you are trying now doesnt work, then could you rephrase the problem?

[Q] Does flashing from custom ICS to stock GB wipe all internal memory?

Reason I'm asking is:
My Galaxy S had CWM and was running custom ICS and I dropped it and now the display is smashed and touch screen doesn't work. I have a new phone so am going to sell it.
I didn't have debugging activated so I rebooted in download mode and flashed it with a stock ROM using Heimdall.
I'm hoping this would have wiped entire internal memory contents including pics, ebay login, vnc sttings etc.
I think there would be nothing left to identify my on it but wanted to get conformation that it was "clean" of anything identifying me before I sell it.
Thanks
I dont know your phone but after a quick google search I see that it has a internal memory with optional SD card slot. So if its like my g2x then no it wont. When you flash a rom it only wipes the data, system, cache partitions. Not the left over partition(s) which house your user data thats been added per downloads and usb / bluetooth transfers and what not. That wont get touched and needs to be sorted. is the screen not viewable at all? like can read anything at all? I have a few tricks but it is contingent on what you can see or not see.....
No the screen is completely dead.
There was no SD card in the phone when I flashed it if that makes any difference.
Thanks

I have a TON of old folders on there that I don't know whether they are in use or not and to sum it up I guess i want to make the folder structure ect like it was when the phone was new.
Format everything andros11 mentioned. The /Data folder is where app stuff is kept so it will wipe it clean.

Not sure why people always ask there (somewhat unrelated) questions in other people threads...makes it harder to find the help you need cause people assume the only question asked is what's in the title...so by scrolling through threads I would never guess someone asked about heimdall problems, id assume it was strictly about erasing data on the phone...two unrelated things -atleast post your question in a thread that is about heindall problems or when heimdall goes bad...etc
Anyways...what heimdall did you use? Try running it again, don't close it when it finishes, check the box for bootloader and the do it once more (again don't close the program after the first heimdall flash...leave ot open)

Well. I did have red recovery when I was wiping, then I started messing with flashing new roms and ended up soft bricking my phone. I had the sim card problem before, which led me to wiping and re-partitioning the sd card then using heimdal to get stock back on. I just need to know what I can do to try and figure out what is causing the problem. I was running Aeon with red recovery. I didn't care for it. I had more problems than I wanted.

Go to storage and format the internal and ext sd if you want as well then or you can do it in recovery by wiping phone.
