Gingerbread and LG cameras simultaneously? - T-Mobile LG G2x

Using Weapon atm, is there a way to have the Gingerbread and LG cameras installed simultaneously? Modifying the .apk of one of them to read as a standard app eager than a system app perhaps?

You know what that'd be a good idea. Can't we just change the name of the app itself in the apk files? Somewhere, instead of it Thinking it's camera, can we make it thinik it's Camera2?

I think they already tried that..
Then again, if you're able to install 3rd party camera apps off the market, I don't see why it wouldn't work.

That's exactly what I was thinking. It probably has something to do with what it calls itself (ie, com.android.camera) or something.

If you recompile the app but with a different package name which should be com.android.camera to something else and then try, it should work.

Okay, so I decompiled the apk and changed com.android.camera to com.android.gingercamera, recompiled, at it works. Sort of. It installs and runs independent of the normal camera, but it looks and behaves exactly like the other.
I'm on MIUI right now so opening my new gingercamera.apk opens a camera app that is indistinguishable from the MIUI camera. Presumably with the LG cam it would do the same thing.
I stopped caring, but I've attached my apk if anyone else wants to tinker with it.

Hmm, maybe there's a different apk that it ultimately links to. Hmm, I'll try it out on mine. Thanks again!

I installed the gingerbread app alongside my lg camera app, and it works fine....I just wish I had the gingerbread camera as the system cam and lg as the secondary camera....skype doesn't seem to work when lg is the system camera
I'm using weapon 2.7 btw
LordButters would it be too much to ask for you to make an installable lg camera app? I'm sure there'd be a lot of people that would appreciate it including myself

this is genius cause of the panoramic shot and other little twirks that the LG cam can do... I would love the LG cam as a separate APK!!!

I experienced the same. But removed it and reinstalled stock as the default app. LG as secondary would be awesome!

(REQ) stock camera.apk to replace 2.3 camera.apk

Ok so in my opinion, the stock camera.apk is a whole lot better than the one that is on gingerbread, and that is what is keeping me from switching. I use the camera on this thing a lot!i have read where some have tried to replace the new with the old to no avail... Can someone please make this happen, or even suggest a better alternative... In the mean time I will try to do the same
It will work we just need the LG framework again

Dam. I really liked the lg cam too
G2x with faux AOSP
I really miss the ability to focus onto any spot on the screen, rather than limited to focusing on the middle of the frame or whatever it does automatically. I have not seen this feature on any of the camera apps in the market.
Vignette does that. It was too laggy for me, however, and I have since moved on to camera360.

This is also what is holding me back from quite a few ROM's and simply getting gingerbread also. I use it so much that it breaks the deal for me.

Wondering about this.... since we all like the LG app so much better, is there a way to take it out of the froyo build and drop it into the the new gb build? If its possible, it would be nice to know how.

Sorry for the noob question.
miui is built off of cm7 so I would think it would work. ill upload the apk when I get home if someone doesn't beat me to it.
Here you go. I would make a backup of your rom before trying the camera just in case.
Use any file manager with root access to place the APK in system/app then reboot. The camer should then be in your app drawer. If when trying to open it it force closes it wont work. I think it should work with CM7 but dunno about stock gingerbread.

Because the LG camera app has more features and tweaks the camera to take better quality video and photos. It also has the zoom feat. while recording video which is nice to have. Its hard going back to stock after being used to utilizing the extra feats.
Geah!

SE panorama camera app works in CM7

Hey,
I'm sure I remember reading about someone talking about it on our play forums, but don't think I've seen anyone confirm.
The hacked version of SE's panorama camera app works on the play -running CM7-
Link here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14976061&postcount=90
Tested / working on my R800x running CM7.
Edit: thanks to everyone who tested, looks like this currently will not work with stock SE firmware or Verizon's bloatware. Really makes me wonder what's different in CM7 that lets it work.
I've tried a number of panorama apps, and I have to say; its pretty sweet. Simple, straightforward, gets the job done, and works well. Makes me wonder why they refuse to include it as a stock feature.

nice works on stock Rom good find
edit: doesn't save pic after it's taken
Really? That's odd. Can someone on cm7 try? It's saving fine for me. attached a photo I took with it for yalls. Hopefully since it seems to work with cm7 something can be done to get it working with stock.

Thanks but whenever I press the stop button, it does not save the picture
it won't save the picture for me either. Verizon stock 2.3.3
Doesn't save pictures on the stock rom. I also followed the thread linked to above; downloaded the original version from first page and flashed the panorama-fix.zip containing the necessary libraries. That doesn't work either.
It doesn't work on the stock roms, you'll be able to install it yes but it won't save the picture, it works perfectly on the cm7 roms cause I was using it alot and posted something about it over in general like 3-4 months ago but I got tired of using the cm7 roms cause the touchpads didn't work for 3/4 of the games I liked to play

2.3.2
it will work perfectly at firmware 2.3.2....
It's probably just trying to save the pictures in a directory that doesn't exist in the official firmware.
Where are the panoramas saved ?
I believe they are saved in a folder called panorama on the sd card

Camera Hack Question

For months I used DlevRom. In that Rom, there was a camera hack that allowed me to use the power button to snap photos and allowed the use of the volume buttons to zoom in and out.
I recently upgraded to Zeus Rom and it does not have that feature. I searched for the hack on XDA and downloaded and flashed the mod, however, when rebooted and used the camera, it would force close when I took a photo.
I am confused to why this hack would not work with Zeus. I read where the hack would not work if the ROM was not deodexed. But Zeus is. That is what confuses me. I ended up just reinstalling the normal camera, but would like to make this hack work. It is so much easier using the power button to take photos with my phone.
Thanks for any tips.

It should work but I know THAT D's reasoning was that it's not good to take photos under 15% and that it was hacked enough. Should work though..

I copied both the camera apk and firmware apk and it worked.
That is not spelled out in the camera hack thread so that is what is need on Zeus if you want to have the hack.
Thanks!

It works great on aokp. The main difference between this and the jellybean keyboard is that it has swype- like functionality. I'm starting to like it better than swype. Keep in mind that this isn't the released version, so it may not be perfect

I installed the 4.2 camera from there, and it's buggy.
Taking pictures, videos, and panorama seem to work great. Photosphere doesn't work properly.
Also, in the gallery, which also gets updated, you can't edit and/or crop pictures. It causes the App to crash.
"Unfortunately, the process com.android.gallery3d has stopped." When you click Edit, and "Unfortunateley, Gallery has stopped." when you click Crop.
You also get the "Unfortunately, the process com.android.gallery3d has stopped." message when you click the 3 circle icon thingy located on the bottom left corner when viewing a picture in the gallery.
Also, I randomly got a "Can't connect to camera" message whenever I tried launching the Camera app. Not sure why/how this happened, but restarting the phone fixed it.
The new gallery and camera look great, but I flashed back to the old camera, I like being able to crop my pictures, lol.
The keyboard works flawlessly.

yeah there are definitely some issues with it. I couldn't edit photos either which sucks cus I wanted to try it. I'm not sure if we'll be able to get photosphere, I think the processor can't handle it. Either that or some sort of sensor issue. I'm sure when the great devs for our phone get JB up and running they will have many more details than I do
I can't seem to either distinguish the difference on keyboards or get the jb one working. Is there a distinct difference? I'm not seeing this swype action work.
