Security issue? - HTC Desire S

Hi all, I am having a Desire S using the wonderful Virtuous Rom.
I recently got a weird thing, which makes me think what's going on. I used the phone shortcut *#*34636#*#* to get more phone information. Looking into the menu Wii Information and then to WiFi Config displays the password I use at work to enter the companies WiFi service! anyone else here in the forum haing the same issue?

wep issues on new FUZE

Hi to all, I'm new to this forum and to Smartphone devices and I just got an HTC Fuze this week and I still cant get the Wifi to work trough a wep encripted router, I already tried with 3 diffrerent routers and still get an odd "incorrect key" message everytime I try (Im sure the key is correct because I connect my laptop there) and I already discarded a hardware issue (but you are the expert) because I disabled one of these routers wep encription and leaved it unprotected, therefore I could get a connection.
I already searched for an upgrade or something inside the Htc site and windows update and nothing..
Can anyone of you guys help me out? maybe point me in the right direction? or at least give me some advice?
I searched the threads in this forum and didnt find any problem like mine ,so I started this one.
Thanks in advance
Edit:
Question-- If the problem its software related, could it be possible to be fixed by flashing it with a custom ROM ?
If the answer is yes, what Rom its recomended for a smarthphone newbie (a noobproof ROM lets say), because my phone is very importanto to my work..
IdeAS? suggestions?
2nd Edit:
Plz someone at least tell me if my problem can be solved by installing a custom rom =S... or say you dont know I feel ignorated =(

The Eduroam vs Froyo Big Issue

Hello,
As some of you may already know, the Android 2.2 (Froyo) update creates issues for those using eduroam WiFi networks because of a bug in wpa_supplicant.
These are the most relevant discussions I've found googling around:
EDIT: Can't post links apparently, google yourself...
I now have my HTC Wildfire asking if I want to upgrade from 2.1 to 2.2 and I don't know what to do because I really need a working eduroam WiFi and I'm still a noob when it comess to Android. But at the same time I'm very excited about Froyo and I'd like to upgrade.
Does anyone know what is the situation right now? Has the bug been fixed?
What is your experience with Eduroam in Froyo? Does it work out-of-he-box? Does it work at all?
Thanks a lot for your replies, any info is useful!
Somebody please help...
Nobody is using Eduroam network on its Android phone?
Please share your experience!
Problem is gone in 2.2.1 on SGS
Updated my Wildfire to 2.2.1 yesterday and Eduroam connection is now broken.
Not a big issue for me, so won't attempt a fix until next year now.

I've got a Wildfire as well and eduroam is very important for me (basically the only free wifi access I have). I can't believe Android devs are not fixing this, it's been around for more than a while.
@bael666: Is it really fixed on SGS?
How can it be fixed on a phone and not on an other one with the same android version? Maybe local network settings make a difference here.
What should I do? Upgrade or not?
the only problem my wife had after the update is that froyo had disabled her APN settings (3G data) and all had to be enabled/add settings.

That means no problems at all with eduroam wifi?
Hmm yeah it's working perfectly for me now on SGS. Had problems with my phone "forgeting" phase2 options, thats obviously gone now. One thing i did this time is importing cert chain (one file) instead of importing three single certs. Dunno if thas has anything to do with it.
You got any other device - laptop or something - using eduroam at the same time? Try to disable it. Having latop and phone connected at the same time isn t working for me either.
I have the same problem with my connection to Eduroam.
Did anyone found a fix ?
no problem at all.
have a android tablet 2.2.1 android, and a phone 2.2.1 android. both work extremely smooth.
Hi, I'm at UCL and have had sporadic connection to eduroam while I've been at Uni. Most of the time, if i have had my wifi turned off completly for a long time, I will be able to connect ok. If i get kicked off, it will often list eduroam as 'disabled' and i cannot reconnect without turning wifi off for a while. The UCL IT services has this statement on its setup guide:
"There is a known bug with 2.2.x Android phones that may prevent automatic connection to eduroam » It is expected that 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) will fix this issue. A temporary workaround to this bug is to toggle wireless off and on again. It has also been reported that Juice Defender will do this automatically (this is useful if your manufacturer will not issue an OS update)."
Thanks, this is helpful.
In the end, I didn't upgrade to froyo and stuck with Eclair, hoping HTC release Gingerbread for Wildfire at some point.
EDIT: Do you use Froyo btw? Have you tried the Juice Defender workaround? Does it work?
If you are using an android version less than froyo then add this to your wpa_supplicant.conf file located in /data/misc/wifi/ :
Code:
network={
ssid="eduroam"
proto=WPA
key_mgmt=WPA-EAP IEEE8021X
pairwise=TKIP
group=TKIP
eap=TTLS
identity="[email protected]_NAME.ac.uk"
anonymous_identity="[email protected]_NAME.ac.uk"
password="PASSWORD"
ca_cert="/sdcard/eduroamcert.pem"
phase2="auth=PAP"
priority=2
}
Note the ca_cert line. You will need to find what certificate your university uses for authentication and add it to your SD Card.
This method has been working for me at UCL with a HTC Hero since android 1.5.
EDIT:: Forgot to mention, you need to be rooted in order for the aforementioned method to work.
thanks my_space for that information, but till now it's impossible to make connection with eduroam. In the wifi-menu says: connecting..... disconnected... Do i need to activate the wpa_supplicant with a command? My phone is a samsung galaxy 5 with android 2.1
This is just to report that eduroam WiFi works *perfectly* under Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread (CyanogenMod 7 RC3 ROM)!
Problem back on Galaxy S2! When i leave the phone disconnects, and it is not possible to reconnect when coming back.
Tomorrow I will try it in my university with an LG Optimus Black with froyo.
EDIT: It didn't worked on my 2.2.2 android. I tried changing options and nothing.
Had someone maybe found fix for this issue? I stumble upon this small app but haven't tried it yet: Eduroam Fixer v1.3. I'm on Android 2.2.2.

[Q] Whatever happened to 'HTC Connection Setup'?

Hey guys, I travel a lot and that tool was invaluable to me when I swapped my half-dozen SIMs. Whatever happened to it? Is there a rough equivalent in the Android world? My MMS never works, for example, when I enter the settings manually. Sigh.
Any ideas? Thanks!
No takers!? I did try searching ya know

[Q] Recently GPS problems

Hi all,
I have a Desire S and am very happy with it. But recently I have GPS problems.
Since I have this device I never ever had any problem with the GPS. A fix within a few seconds. The GPS of the phone had a fix faster and more stable than my Garmin I use for geocaching.
I have installed c:geo and GPS Status from the beginning. And I did not add any 'strange' programs, no games.
But since a few weeks the phone it takes a long time to get a fix. Even in an open terrain, so no trees or buildings. And when it can determine it's location it is very unstable. The phone even has trouble to determine it's location by the mobile network.
I have Android 2.3.5 and HTC sence 3.0 and softwareversion 2.10.401.8
Can anyone help me with this one? It drives me crazy....
TIA, Peter
I can only advice you to install Faster Fix from the market. It changes the GPS configuration for faster fixing. It worked for me but there are also other GPS optimization tips all over the forum, though I can't give you a specific one.

I had GPS problems on my DS as well, googled a bit, and found out you can change the GPS config file.
First use FasterFix, and select your location to where ever you is closest to you, then google "ntp pool" enter the website and choose a region from the right hand side. Use Root Explorer to go to your /System/etc location. Open gpsconf, and type in the "server 0.europe.pool.ntp.org" text. It will change on where you are located. Mine was Europe thats why there is ".europe.pool"
Hope i helped you out man. Peace.
Thanks guys. I will try your suggestions.
Althought I still don't understand why my phone has these GPS problems. Just out of the blue...
I had major problems with GPS fix for several days, until I made a "compass calibration" through GPS status program. A reboot might do the same, but I'm not sure.

Hi all,
I did a hard reset of device and restored the factory defaults. As I did not change a lot on the device this was not a very big issue for me.
But after this the problems are gone. My device now has a fix within a few seconds.
Kind regards,
Peter

Networks disconnect with work profiles :@

Hi all,
I have searched for any past references to this issue quite a bit but found nothing in here so thought I would ask. Maybe my searching skills are not good
Whenever an app that requires aGPS starts, both my sims and my wifi disconnect and reconnect in a continuous loop. This has started happening since I factory reset my phone and then installed my company's work profile in the summer. I had a look on the OnePlus forums and it's a known issue since the beginning of the year but OP have done nothing about it. I need my work profile because of course I work a lot from my phone and even though a recommended fix is to switch off location services so that this doesn't happen, location for me is a very important function on my phone.
Does anybody know of any solution to this that I couldn't find? Am I going to have to go the route of a custom ROM to address this? I haven't had a phone with a custom ROM since my XDA IIs so really don't want to do this
Thank you in advance!
nobody? . . .
