Hello all! - T-Mobile LG G2x

New to the G2X and new to T-Mobile! We've been with verizon forever and needed to cut some costs and HERE WE ARE!
I am seasoned with rooting and blah blah blah and I wanna get into this phone!
Any advice?

Want a really nice camera, and cool lockscreens built in? Use Weapon G2X (2.3.3)
I use it as my daily driver, simply because it's so stable, tried some of the custom kernels and they were simply more hassle than they were worth, especially when everything works fine and I get a day of battery without them.
Otherwise, I've always been an Eaglesblood (CM7) fan with faux123's cm7 kernel, runs beautifully with great battery life, it's pretty damn stable as well.
Otherwise, I think the stickies in the dev section explain how to do everything pretty well. Just use TGAgunman's one click recovery flasher to nvflash cwm, and begin flashing your custom roms.

If you want full use of your device stay way from non 2.3.3 ROMs like CM7, Eaglesblood and MIUI - you cannot control HDMI output when running those ROMs. Best ROM out there that utilizes all functions of the device is Weapon G2X.

I would definitely recommend CM7 for a vanilla Google experience. Have been itching to try Weapon's until CM7 went STABLE.

Weapon 2.7 gave me the best battery life as well. Both me and mahgninnuc93 tried all the ROMs available including CM and MIUI. weapon was by far the best battery saver.

So I got cm7 and weapon g2x....I guess I will look into those. Also the stock camera is SOOOOO slow! I had a HTC thunderbolt and the camera was super fast taking pictures...any recommendations for that? Thanks!
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk

And right now my battery life is awesome. My battery lasts me all day with constant use and leaves me with some to spare. So I'm not too concerned with that.
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk

definitely run weapon. Also if you don't like the slow stock gingerbread cam, flash the LG cam on the OP of the weapon thread.

Ended up flashing cm7 and I really like it!! How do I change the camera though? Its driving me crazy!

The Camera is actually not to bad it has the 30 fps hack so better video stock is only 24, also ttf. And fixed and snaps a little quicker then stock imo

Not true, when I got my G2x almost a month ago, the camera had 30fps option. I have since switched to the LG cam, but only for zooming functionality.

I need a fastershutter time. My thunderbolt was point and shoot instant shot and this one takes forever and the picture quality SUCKS in comparison.....I have two kids 2 and 6mo and I need that instant shot and better quality. My tbolt was like a digital camera and I loved it.

in cm7 you cant change out the camera stock is the only option. Play with the settings and see if you can get it the way you like it, mess with focus stuff, I can take shots of my dog (who is a hyper turd) and they seem to come out alright. If it isn't up to your standards then flash something with the stock cam availability (2.3.3 and below).

I liked all the built in editing functions of the tbolt camera too...no need for a separate app. I miss my tbolt and am wondering if I should go with the sensation or sII and take this one back. Imeanthe MP is the same as the tbolt so I don't get what the difference is

Seems like you just love Sense more. If that's the case then get the MT4G Slide or the Amaze 4G. Both have the quickest and best camera's for a phone. I think it rivals even the new iPhone 4S camera.

The only thing I hate about Weapon is the ugly as hell icons. I wish there was a way to make it look as stock as possible.

Can anyone who has used both ROMs explain what the benefit would be for using the 2.3 roms? What exactly is better about it? I was thinking about trying it but dont want to bother if its not worth it.

What do you mean about what do you mean?
I am personally wondering on the inspire specifically if gingerbread is a great improvement?
Ehh, I ran the CM7 and it was cool, everything seemed nice and smooth...and the screen off animation never gets old but I like Sense and I find the custom sense roms to provide similar if not better speed and performance... then again there is no official GB for Desire HD/Inspire 4g, so... when that comes out we'll probably see a general overall improvement of performance etc
I'm not exactly sure if you would *need* it. We'll only *need* it when the Sony games/ports come into play that require GB. (Cuz we share very similar hardware with the Arc and Xperia Play)
Er...I mean I'll need it anyway. Can't wait to play some PS games on my Inspire
I just flashed Android Revolution.
I couldn't get back to CM7 fast enough. Lol
The only Froyo ROM that compares speed wise is MIUI. Other than that my phone ran noticeably slower. Just my experience.

The inspire plays ffvii at almost full speed depending on what is going on. That is on the stock Rom no root.

I ran CM7 for a few days but then went back to a Sense ROM. I did like a lot of the features on CM7 but I like the HTC apps and widgets even more. Plus, my battery life was even worse on CM7.
I don't really see much of a difference in speed at all. Both run very smoothly.

Yeah... but I've seen some demos of psx4droid, and I wasn't too impressed. I think the framerate drops would bug me... now if sony made an official emulator for the Arc/Xperia (which I believe they are) it should be pretty sweet at least that's how I recall the good ol psp days. Their PSOne emu was pretty good!
And back on topic, to OP, some people really like gingerbread's features etc. You should just flash CM7 and give it a spin for yourself. Just have a diff rom ready to flash if you don't like it. Bam. Gotta love Android
I noticed flash runs a lot better in GB and the browser on the CM7 is able to stay in desktop mode... Its the little things

Any suggestions on which one I should run? I really want a miui but that'll have to wait. I reallly was a cm7 fan on the mt4g but I hear its still too buggy...

I like weapon but you could always start with the basic rooted stock rom and go from there.
I suggest eaglebloods latest rom, which can be found in the development section of the g2x. It is extremely smooth and stable. I would also use faux123 4.6 kernel with that rom.

Really? This poor horse...
I use Weapon 3 which is based on stock Android 2.3.3 with Faux123-0.1.3 recompiled kernel. It has very good battery life, is fast, and very stable.
Galnet MIUI, it really is impressive
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
After trying both Tsugi and Weapon, I personally prefer Tsugi. It seems to work slightly better for me, and I overall seem to have fewer issues. The LG Camera also seems to work slightly better on it although I can't point to any definitive area, other than the fact it has a panorama mode (which only sort of works).
Weapon is great if you want to run Touchwiz, which I find makes more sense to people who don't know what they're doing. Another big deal is that Tsugi doesn't have the shutdown issue where when the phone runs out of battery instead of turning off the screen just goes black and drains the battery more. This may or may not cause damage to the battery, but it's not worth the risk.
Just my two cents
i would say eagle
Jboxer's 2.3.4 LG Colorized is what I settled on after trying pretty much every current ROM.
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk
I would say leave it alone. usually the one originally on there is the safest and most stable. I have installed the latest nightly build 201 from cm. Its for me and I know what to do if something is wrong.
My wife's android phones I always kept at stock for her so whenever there is an issue its easier to fix.
Just stay stock bud and your dad should be fine ok?
Miui.us is Da best so far with trinity kernel, axura, then tsugi? There's a mess of them? Lol

Weapon. I tried CM7 and the camera plainly sucked. You need the LG cam to take advantage of the 8mp/1080p camera. MIUI is based on CM7 so the same applies.

Bionix and Faux Rom
I'm really enjoying the CM7 with Faux 4.7 Kernal.
However, I do admit, the camera for the CM7 is butt compared to the original one. I have a T2i so it doesn't matter CM7 hands down, is the fastest ROM I've experienced. 7605 on Antutu
Just switched to Weapon G2x from EaglesBlood and it feels like I just got a new phone! Way better battery life, it's faster and less crashes.
I'm liking Weapon G2X with faux's kernel though I feel like getting used to CM7 because I'm flashing CM9 as soon as its available. At the same time I love weapon. It is so easy to use and the toggles on the slide down bar are convenient.
Sent from my G2X
Went back to Weapon 3.0 today after playing with Bionix and several Miui versions the past weekend. Everything just works. Fast, smooth, predictable. never crashes or hangs up. BT works great. Terrific battery life! An incredible Rom! Only downside is no more updates unless someone else takes over the Rom.
Chalk another one up for Weapon.
"All these noobs hatin' on my weapon when all they've ever run is C M 7."
have you guys tried SinghUI? i think its amazing so far for me atleast... i was on weapon which was great too!!
Definitely hands down weapon...everything pails in comparison. Paired with faux123 re-packed kernel the bootime is way faster and the rom is just incredibly smooth.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
My boot time is actually slower with the new kernel? It used to boot up very quickly. Strange.. Either way it's a great kernel.

speedwise - weapon
looks- miui.
battery wise, weapon and miui is the same from my experience.
cm7 is just out of the picture. used it, didnt like it. doesnt look too good and battery drains fast.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
for me actually i get the best battery life with miui :/ with weapon i got around 10-12 hours of usage, with MIUI with CM7 7.2 Kernel i get easily around 15-20hours of good usage.
Weapon - amazing battery life and fits my philosophy - if it ain't broken, don't fix it (not very popular in XDA).

I have never had great luck with alternative kernels and I really have no need for overclocking.
Kwes has an ICS like theme that looks great. Then I added ADW ex and loaded an ICS theme for it. I am very happy with the setup. Been running it this way for several months.

Using latest version of Eaglesblood with faux kernel. It's stable, and battery life is awesome. I'm not into ROM swapping. When find one that works, I stick with it, and it's looking like I'll be with this one for a while. Maybe when an ICS ROM gets refined, I'll give it a go. I would like to have Chrome on the android.

Actually looks fine. But I notice more stutter than before, perhaps the ICS animation is bogging it some down.
Still a fan of CM7/Cm9.
I can honestly say, I'm sticking to the G2X despite having a Galaxy GS2. I truely enjoy the Cyanogen ROMS and can't wait for it to come CM9 on G2X and GS2
Also that Samsung is too big. Should have waited. Not sure I'll get any device over 4 inch screen. But thats me
