[Q] cyanogemod for new device - General Questions and Answers

Hi all,
I did some google befor to post here, but I still did not found an answer...
Question is simple, answer won't (I know )
What is needed to start compiling cyanogemod for a new device?
How do you know what propriety files are needed (I can access them)
Do you need the kernel sources for the device (I have them) and how to use them?
BIG thanks!

How to create a ROM...

Hi all, i'm new to this forum so i will first give an introduction of my Android experience.
I have been developing apps and android for the ADP1 (g1) phone, these are mainly for gaining access to telephony data and displaying it for Telecom engineers. I would like to port this code into the Magic/Sapphire, though (please correct me if i am wrong) there is no support for building the android code for a magic and it appears you cannot flash system.img onto the magic.
I have been looking at the ROM's that are about and was wondering how you managed to make them?
If there is already a thread for this can someone point me in the right direction as i have been unable to find it, otherwise can someone post a guide on how to approach this. Thanks.
Liam

How to compile aosp source code for specific devices?

Hi guys, I'm a total noob to android custom roms, so please don't abuse me if I've just asked something very obvious to devs...
Please don't reply giving links to the aosp project, I've already seen them.
Assume I have the system needed to build from the source code.
How do I exactly configure the toolchain for a particular device(say moto g xt1032)?
Do I get configurations with the 9gb download, or do I have to download it separately? And will I be able to successfully compile a working ROM for that device?
I just wanted to know more before diving into my new project.

porting cm to a new device - whats needed and difficulties

Hey,
i'm just curious about what the title describes. First of all.
What do i really need:
-kernel sources
-binary blobs (extractable)
-recovery / boot.img (extractable)
Let us just talk about the fairphone 2. Additional to the things mentioned we get the full source code of the OS (which i do not need?).
Where do the difficulties lie? For my understanding we just take the kernel sources, the official cyanogenmod (e.g.) source code, the binary blobs and the recovery / boot.img.
How difficult would it be to port Cyanogenmod to the fairphone 2.
Why is it difficult to port a device with existing (again cyanogenmod just as an example) cyanogenmod to a newer Cyanogenmod (Android) version?
I ask this to estimate/evaluate/judge (don't know the right term) the effort needed to do this. I think i'd be able to do that if i put enough work into it (i "speak" c and java), but i just need some answers.
Especially for example why it is more difficult to port Android 6 instead of Android 5 (which is the currently running Android version)
Thanks!

Has nobody an answer? Just one?
Im specifically interested in why it is more difficult to port e.g. cyanogenmod if there is only an older version of stock android and how important the kernel is? Why do we need kernel sources? Can't one just self-compile a kernel.
Where are the limits if i have a device running 4.2. Why can it possibly run 5.1 but not 6? Is the kernel limiting? Or only the effort to realize such a thing.
Thanks!

Want to extract Vendor/Device Tree + Blobs from my Lenovo P2 directly. Need help.

Hi Guys,
This is a total Noob asking a totally noobish question.
I want to start ROM development for my device, Lenovo P2 on my own. I will and have been checking a lot of tutorials for this.
But one thing gets me confused. How to get the device source files & Blobs directly from my device without having to depend on any online repository (which only contains source codes without some of the best and most useful features of this phone).
Ive come accross the below link.
http://ding34.blogspot.com/2013/05/extract-filessh-remote-object-does-not.html
I am not sure how much it will help. But will try. In the mean time, can come one point me in the right direction?
