[Q] Will movie rental work on rooted wifi usa xoom now? - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I could buy the movie but not play it before. Have any of the upgrades changes this since the xoom first came out?
Is there any hacks to get movies to work if they are currently not supported on the rooted xooms?

It's not root that does it. It checks to see if your bootloader is unlocked.

Anyone else getting this. I am unable to stream or download movies. Unrooted 3g Xoom.
Happens on rooted devices, because of root. But no one has said anything about non rooted. Are you unlocked? Have you tried a reboot?

You can still lock your device you just need to download the img files from Motorola. Its a pretty easy process.

what nubsors said, I was originally rooted the old way i.e. manual way, then unrooted went to stock for 3.0.1 update, then got bored and rooted using the 1 click method, and manually installed the 3.1 update. Couldn't get Google Videos to work so I reflashed all of the 3.0.1 img files, oem locked it and got the OTA, and it works like a charm

If you had backed up with Titanium Backup, just restore missing apps and data.
I didn't though. Any way to get the old market?

Which version are you looking for? StrifeSoldierIIV has offered to pull free apks for anyone who needs them and I might still have an older market apk in my dl folder.
Which ever version was the old style tablet market view before it changed to the look of the phone.

someone on another forum had a similar issue... did a factory reset and restarted, then re-activated the google account and everything loaded correctly except a couple free apps... those they were able to reload via the web-market
good luck, and report back - I'm awaiting my xoom (hopefully tomorrow, but likely Mon/Tue) so interested in what works and what doesn't.
Done it already, no luck. Wife has the same apps not downloading.

Can you post an image/dump/nandroid of the system and boot from HLK75C?
I'm running HLK42B from the pilot 4G launch and would like to upgrade to this new version they are sending out now.
How do I do a system dump? I am not rooted, but intend to re-root as soon as I get the right files.

Movies in Android Market

I bought a movie from Android Market, but cannot play it, because it says "Movie cannot play before you have a rooted device".

After searching around, it seems possible to root without unlocking the bootloader so you won't lose any data.
Here's the guide and another one.
Do note that those guides are written during gingerbread time, might not work in ics. besides, I haven't tested them myself, so do it at your own risk.
But I would still recommend you to make titanium backup after you gain root, unlock bootloader, and restore. This is in case you want to flash custom rom.
Thanks i didn't know I can root without unlocking the boot loader.

You can root without unlocking up until 4.0.3. Out of luck beyond this.
I think I'm screwed cause I have 4.0.4 and I cant a guide for rooting. fml

Just unlock the bootloader. They are just saved games. The apps are all there in Play, so just reinstall what you want.
Haha its my saved games I'm worry about well just temple run don't care about the rest. God damn you temple run. Hahaha

But will it work for the Family Edition Xoom? It has a locked bootloader and has slightly different software.
