Hello all.
I've been searching and searching for a solution to my issue. But I haven't found anything related to it. The problem I'm running into is that the data on my phone locks up and refuses to release if I use the data a lot on my phone. A lot meaning generally surfing the web, watching videos (via YouTube/Netflix), browsing the Market, using Google Maps, etc. Not that it won't lock when I'm using Gmail, or updating weather, or checking Gas prices, which it does. But they usually don't use data like the previously listed apps do.
The down arrow next to the H lights up and stays lit, a solid green. When data works, both the Up and Down arrows light up. And I notice that once it's just the Down arrow, data stops working. My phone slows down to an impossible crawl. Everything basically stops responding. Now if I'm quick enough on the draw and I notice that it's about to do it, and I enable Airplane mode, it cuts all of my connections. Then I disable Airplane mode and I can use the data again for a bit. But because of this problem, I have to restart my phone once a day (at least).
Data works fine (when it doesn't lock), and is really fast. Don't have a problem with that.
I'm currently running:
MDJ eVo Sense rEVOlution 2.3 (Froyo)
Baseband: 15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14
Kernel: 2.6.32.15r7.7-g187ebc6
on T-Mobile US Network
Everything else on this build works brilliantly. This one snag makes this otherwise amazing phone, extremely frustrating. I hope someone can help me out.
Thanks!

Hello all,
I was just wondering if anyone else has seen this.
Randomly while using GPS navigation my phone will loose data connection.
Will still have signal just no internet.
Have to quit nav then re-enable data in settings and try again or reboot the device.
At the same time I have a sensation right next to me with no problems at all.
Also sometimes I notice if I drive thru a area with no coverage the phone wont get signal back on its own again also requiring a reboot.
An ideas?
I've seen that one as well among many other network issues in this phone.
Yet, in my situation both data and network will return if you wait some seconds/ minutes. No need for any intervention.

I have seen this as well, had to enter airplane mode to get the radio to reboot.
Whats weird I noticed too if not actively using GPS or streaming I don't have the problem.
Will make the 30 min trip home and not be singed out of talk and have good signal too.
On my next trip will try with searching directly thru maps rather then using shortcut and see if that makes a difference. Was on a short trip 2 days ago with another one of these of my friends and she didn't have the problem but I used shortcut and she did direct search. Only difference there.
This happens to me too :s
Just also tried doing a master reset and testing it without even signing into google account or any applications and it did the same thing.
Oddly enough I then signed in, downloaded slacker radio, speed test, battery notif, and telenav.
Over a 18 minute drive with streaming slacker music and navigation by telenav it worked ok.
Later on my way home I didn't have slacker running just Telenav over a different trip route about 16 minues and it happened again.
Just seems like anytime running GPS it will randomly loose data.
Turning off the GPS nav program for a minute gets data back again.
Are you using an EU based rom? I had that problem too with those on my US One S
Hey, I must admit GPS on mine is awesome, However i have one annoying bug...
When using google navigation, The maps fail to rotate towards the direction im in, For example, On any other sat nav, Me (the arrow) is always facing straight ahead.. With google navigation this doesnt work,
Earlier today i was driving but the map was upside down and because it was upside down, Left became right and vice versa.. It was a real pain in the ass.. and the volume is so quiet too, It took me 1hour to do a 20minute journey..
Someone tell me theres a solution to this, without having to pay for an alternative sat nav app

With mine I am running 100% stock. Didn't root, unlock, or make any modifications for it.
Really annoying.
It is very odd that for instance into work about a 30 minute drive it worked fine with streaming music no problem all the way in.
To another destination about18 minutes got about 10 minutes into the drive, music stopped playing 4g had a arrow stuck up and grey down arrow. With about a minute or 2 lost 4g connection and just bars. 4 minutes later no 4g back. Quit GPS Nav withing about 30 seconds got 4g back again.

I don't have the One S (yet), but if it's anything like other Android phones, you need to touch the compass icon (red and white arrows) on the nav screen to change modes.
Tested on way home with just on 2g only and didn't seem to have the problem that way.
But phone also didn't get as hot on 2g only even though was using GPS nav and streaming music.
Think I am going to call them on monday to see if I can get them to replace the phone.
Just stumbled across someone else that I know from school that has had the same problem with it dropping randomly with GPS use only.
No pattern as to a cause though.
Seems like I don't have this problem if I use 2g only though.

it really seems that in all communication issues we have with this phone, 2G is a solution, yet, it's slow and cannot provide data while speaking...

Old thread, I know. I'm experiencing something like this on my rooted 3G VZW Droid Incredible...
As of a few days ago, built-in Navigation app fails with "Data connection reset" (or maybe "Data connection lost"). I have rebooted phone, tried to get directions at different times of day, to and from different locations. Steps to reproduce-- start Navigation app. Enter destination. It shows map and my current (correct) GPS location in dimmed out map, while a "connecting" message appears on top. After about 60 seconds, voice says that data connection has been lost, and the spinner continues to spin indefinitely. If I exit that screen and try again, I get same results. I use Navigation 2-3 times per day, and it has worked well for the past 2+ years. This problem is very new. I have killed app and restarted, and I have hard-reset device and tried as well. Same results each time. I have not made any updates to the phone recently, and have not added any new apps. Based on the "data connection lost" message, it gives me the impression that the server side is hanging up on the request for directions. Or???
While at work, I don't get very good signal, so I don't surf the web very often. But I've noticed, that when I leave the office, I'll have full bars of service (including the 3G icon) but my phone will act like I'm comlpetely offline.
I'm using the Slim ICS Rom and Air Kernel.
If it helps (and people ahve used the roms/kernel) the signal indicator is usually blue when I'm connected to the internet. When this happens the signical indicator is grey. But it's clear that I have signal, because there are two levels of grey and I'm able to make phone calls when this happens.
Sometimes, if i put it into Airplane mode (which takes forever btw) then turn Airplane mode off, I'm able to regain connection. But anything short of that (or rebooting) hasn't helped.
I've tried searching for a solution, but I might just be using the wrong search parameters. Anybody have any ideas?
Oh, i forgot this is an NS4G.
similar issue occasionally on the stock kernal.
airplane does not fix it on mine

I’m currently using AOKP Jellybean 4.1.2, the supposedly stable, reliable milestone version found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804223
I'll try to be as thorough as possible in hopes that someone will respond and know what to do. I apologize in advance for being long-winded.
I didn’t have any issues last night when I first flashed the rom. I was able to watch youtube videos using the mobile data. I was also able to turn on wifi to sync some files from my dropbox to my phone, and then turn off the wifi with no issues. However, today after connecting to a wifi network to download a few things and browse the web, I disconnected from the wireless network and the mobile data curiously did not start up again. I DO have cellular service (3-4 bars), and I can make phone calls and check my voicemail by pressing and holding 1 on the keypad, but my mobile data doesn’t work. I looked around for some solutions, and I've since restarted my device several times, tried toggling airplane mode on and off, and did several combinations of reboots with airplane on/off and no dice.
Everytime I use the toggle in the notificaton bar area to turn off wifi, my internet connection goes with it. It says “no internet connection” in the notification background at the bottom of the screen. Once I turn wifi on, I get my internet back and it says “at&t” at the bottom, but I don’t actually get mobile data because apps like “At&t Visual Voicemail” which require mobile data to function don’t work.
I tried flashing the 1.85 radio to see if it would connect to mobile data, and same issue persisted after reboot and dalvik/cache clean. After that failed, I flashed the 2.20 radio + RIL zip files seperately (which is what I understand came with the rom), and still no dice.
For reference, my HTC One X was rooted with 1.73 firmware (I never tried to update it until last night). I did the CID spoof method to unlock my bootloader, and installed the newest version of TWRP on it. I flashed the rom and the gapps package. I used TiBu to restore program settings and a handful of my out of market apps, and the rest of my purchased apps downloaded automatically from the market after connecting with my google account. I had literally just finished reinstalling the last of my apps today via wifi when this issue started to happen.
I'd really prefer a practical method of getting this fixed that doesn't involve starting over with a fresh rom install. Reflashing at this point would be something of a nuisance since I don’t have much free time to begin with. And hey, it took a long time to load up all of my apps just right
However, if there is no other fix that anyone is aware of, I guess I could reflash or in the worst case try a different rom. It’s a shame because the rom otherwise is really smooth and runs great on the phone, in addition to not using a whole lot of resources and having a decent battery life.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions and solutions.
Here is an image of my battery drain screen showing what my mobile data is supposedly doing despite not being able to get a true data connection. Even with my wifi off, there is supposedly medium mobile signal.
And attached is another image of what happens when I turn my wifi off. I pulled the notification pane down and you can see that it says "no internet connection" at the bottom. Also, you can't really see it in that cap, but the mobile data bars behind the notification area are colored white, and there isn't any "H+", "4G", or "LTE" notifiers visible.
Edit: Attached a third image showing the "white" signal bars (i.e. no data connection). Yes, my mobile data is turned on, and I'm obviously not in airplane mode.
I figured it out eventually for anyone interested... Apparently the APN were not set. They existed on the APN list but were not visible due to a glitch in the ROM I guess. I had to add a custom APN and then the other ones suddenly appeared.
Thanks anyway.

Hello everyone!
I've recently bought my s6 after killing my old s5 with salt water on a Mediterranean trip (after taking it apart I found out the previous owner had the screen replaced, probably didn't do a very good job of putting the seals back together), and I was hoping that the notifications issue was gone on the s6. Here's what happens: when I get up in the morning I usually start my phone routine by reading the news, maybe watching some videos on YouTube, check on my games, and so on. The WiFi is on all the time when I'm at home. The first time I unlock the screen I only see the default email app notifications, 2 or 3 new emails. Once the screen is unlocked, other notifications show up, like the Gmail app, WhatsApp, tapatalk, and so on. It does this 80 to 90% of the time, maybe once or twice a month I see all my notifications the first time I press the power button to unlock my screen. Going on, half an hour to one hour after reading my newspapers feeds and watching videos, playing my games, there is a noticeable lag whenever I try opening a new Internet tab, or a new YouTube video, or anything that requires the Internet connection. After this lagginess starts, usually within a few minutes my phone behaves like it's not connected to the Internet anymore. The WiFi signal is strong, it stays connected to the router, but I can't use the Internet, it just shows that it's loading whatever it is I've asked it to load at the moment (YouTube video, internet tabs and so on) and remains like that until I disconnect from the WiFi and reconnect. I have to do that for the Internet connection to work again. I've noticed that while on mobile data it doesn't exhibit this issue as much, maybe just the occasional WhatsApp notifications halt, other than that it seems to be working ok.
Before you answer you must know that I'm not using the"do not disturb" mode at all, the router is brand new and it gets a reset every few days . I experience this issue both at my place and at my girlfriend's place, we have different router manufacturers.
I used to get the same problem with the old s5 as well. At first I thought the router was the issue, got a new one, the issue is still there. I also did the wipe cache partition, factory settings reset, different Google account, all with the same end result.
Sorry for the layman terms, I was trying to present the facts as I experience them in hope that the more technologicaly educated of you will know where or why the issue happens.
If you have any ideas or advice that I haven't tried, please share and thank you for reading.

I can't figure this out to save my life. 6039s Android 6. No root. No special mods. Nothing. Bone stock.
In the middle of the day today I suddenly started getting a horrendous wakelock. I thought it was a Google Play issue but it turned out that it's some kind of mobile data issue.
My LTE connection isn't working right. It's slow for some apps and non existent for others.
For instance my sports score app loads at 2G speeds. My web browser seems to work okay. But my t mobile tuesday's app gives me a big warning that I'm not connected to the internet at all. And the Google Play app gives me all kinds of warning that I need to have background data enabled to use Play, but background data IS enabled.
Making matters worse, when this issue is happening my phone enters a miserable and unstoppable wake lock that drains the battery so fast it hard to even charge it. And it saps up the system resources to heavily that the phone slows down to a crawl and can't be used for anything else. Not to mention the phone gets insanely hot from the excess processing. Could a tower issue that's causing a connection problem cause such a wakelock?
I tried doing a reset of the radio connections in settings, but I don't think it actually did anything because all my settings and connections were still there. Still had my wifi password, BT connections, etc.
I tried wiping cache in recovery but it didn't work. Says it did it. But on reboot I didn't get the "app 1 of 82 is updating". So I don't think it actually did that either.
I cannot figure this out to save my life.
I thought maybe it was a tower issue. But my wife has the exact same phone and it's working fine. I called T Mobile and they said they are having a tower problem near my house, but still...wife's phone is fine. And I've seen this problem now in 3 different locations across about a 5-6 mile range. So I have to have been on more than 1 tower in that time.
When I turn on wifi and have a wifi connection the problem goes away entirely. That's telling me that the problem is the system getting upset that it doesn't have a solid internet connection. Changing the connection to 3G or 2G does not solve the issue.
The problem lasted the whole second half of yesterday, was fine overnight while I left wifi on, was fine on day 2 when I was back to 4G networks, and then suddenly is back again.
Anyone got any ideas or suggestions?
Is there some server android is trying to stay in constant contact with that I can block the connection to? Perhaps limit background data to something? I can't figure out what.
This update was irrelevant. Turned out to be a red herring. Still having the problem.
Nevermind this update. STill having the problem
I give up. I'm about to throw the phone against a wall to smash it. The system has become totally loused up. Whenever it goes into these goofy wakelock states the system is so overtaxed that everything takes forever to process. Nothing solves it.
And its' getting worse. Now I have oddly limited connectivity.
T Mobile's tech support was useless. They had me thinking it was a tower issue. That was 3 days ago. Now suddenly they have no records of a tower issue in my area over the last week.
I can make voice calls. But I cant' send text messages. I can use my web browser to search the internet, but not SOME apps that need data like a weather app or Google Play. Other apps work fine to pull data.
Yet it says I have an LTE connection the whole time.
This is the single weirdest issue I've ever seen on Android.
What in the hell could have just jumped in out of nowhere and started causing these issues?
