I've been spending the past few days trying to learn how to theme in MIUI. I have done a lot of reading trying to figure out how to accomplish this task.
I have tried using this guide and this guide.
I believe I have all of the tools installed (Notepad++, PS, and APKTool), however, my problem is that I am more of a visual learner. Does anyone know of a video tutorial for creating MIUI themes? Thanks in advance.

I saw this today while browsing through the forums and wow do I want this! I installed it and it booted up, and started to run. It looked so amazing! But out of nowhere it went into an endless boot loop. So sad! I'm running uncommon sense V1.1. Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Works on Lou's R-EVO-lution (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=799679) rom as well. I used the R-EVO-lution rom and mounted the theme, and it ran fine and is actually quite beautiful, but it ends up messing up the internal mounting, which is a bummer.
I don't think it's possible to load the way it is. A dev would have to port it (I'm guessing) or you'd have to switch roms.
Crap. Thank you for the insight. If there's any dev that would want to try to port this to uncommon, that would be sweet...

This is an EVO Theme for EVO Rom's that is why you are having an issue. The framework-res, com.htc.resources, rosie, vending apk's are different than on the DINC. You would have to have someone port it over to the DINC to get it to work correctly.
***Edit*** So apprently the only DINC ROM that it will work on is FrankenRom http://adrynalyne.us/
It works on hey its lou new rom as well

I am trying to port this right now and will let you know if I succeed. I have a little tool that does it for you but I have never used it so we will see what happens. I am porting to SkyRaider 3 for now and if it works I can port it to any dodexed rom.

What little tool?
There is a tool on AndroidForums made by a guy called Androizd that ports and converts everything over. He is a really good DEV but had some problems with some people in the ERIS sectino so he no longer post on XDA, If you want to try and port themes I know it worked really well on my old ERIS.
Actually I got it here at XDA. I know what tool your talking about with the Eris, I used to own one.
What tool are you referring to? Do you have a link?
I will see if I can find the original thread so I can give the original creator credit. If not I will post it here for download.

Ok thanks.

Nope non that I have seen. I hacked together a blue one but I only added the .png files. I did no XML edits.
Here is the link to the theme porter on XDA. I am done playing around as I have to leave. Hope you get it to work for you, I'm sure I could I just don't have the time. Let me know how it goes.

So I used it and it works well. Only issue is...if the ROM does not use the .9.png files and the Theme does then you are out of luck. In this intance the Ucommon ROM does not use .9.png files and this theme does so the theme will not work with Uncommon ROM. SkyRaider does not use .9.png files either.

Its easy but time consuming to convert them to .9 style just Google it. If you have Android SDK installed and Eclipse you can do it.
Well I have this looking good, the creator did an amazing job.. the only thing is the services.jar is outta my hands, and the clock needs to be black or something cos you cant see it on most any pull downs cos the transparent status bar ...
i use the stock ROM.. the stock ota 2.2 deoodexed ROM that was posted a while back.
any help would be much appreciated,, here it is

It's best to look through the updater-scripts first to get an idea of what's going on
Tutorials are nice...but most of learn by trial and error

Okay, I opened up the updater-script. I have no idea what I'm looking at...I was expecting some kind of one line command to extract the contents of the zip into the proper locations, not a bunch of Linux commands...help?
PS: I'm only in CompSci II. And I forgot EVERYTHING I learned last year...it was all Java stuff.

Let me rephrase what I said because I'm reading it now and I can see why it came across like that.
The tutorial is ok and it shows a couple in depth stuff but it doesn't fully cover everything, not the little things I've had to go around xda to find to make my build work.
Simply put it not a full tutorial but it comes close.

Does this really helped anyone??
I just wanna know because i own a non famous android phone which has very less roms and mods so i just wanna use this method to compile
ROMs for my phone from sources like cm repos.
i used to make pots roms for the lg p500, i tried to make one for my atrix 2 and nothing, i asked to some developers of atrix 2 (very famous by the way) and i tell them how i make those ports and they tell me that it was other metod for our atrix 2, and NEVER TELL ME WHAT WAS THAT METOD, I ASK LIKE 3 MORE TIMES AND NEVER GET AN ANSWER. It was depressing :crying::crying::crying:
Hi thanks for posting this tutorial and for your work. One thing would like to ask is if anyone no's of some more links or books as I would like to learn how to code and correct bugs and add features to ROMs or build my own. I would greatly appreciate any help thanks in advance.
I want to take a shot at theming, or possibly ROM development, but where does one learn this stuff? I can't seem to find any guides for theming or ROM development; not even a "start here" thing. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
The only thing I've been able to find that may help me is within some droid forums, but I'm worried that I'll learn all that and come to find that it won't even work with the SGS4.

Thanks for the reply, Erik! Yeah, google is my friend. So, is it safe to assume that when it comes to theming and ROMs, that it's pretty much universal? I have the Android SDK and JDK, but when it comes to actually messin' with the guts of it all, is it all done the same? Like, are there any tools that get the job done easier that apply to all devices? For example, the APK multi-tool and ABD stuff?

I'd like to get some opinions/resources on compiling custom ROMs, only been able to find beginner guides involving Linux basics and the Android kitchen etc.. I'm more interested in starting from scratch, extracting specific components (system/bootloader/kernel etc) and partition breakdowns.. Like leaving out the kernel or bootloader, only compiling system files. I know a little Java, pretty well versed in C and practically fluent in PHP, use it every day at my job.. Want to get into the whole ROM scene but am having difficulty finding in-depth resources. Any help is much appreciated, thanks in advance!

I am too interested in this very same thing. If you do manage to find any good resources I would love a PM or a link.
I know one article, which explain porting ROM to different hardware. But it's written on Russian. Are you interested in that article?
Sorry for my bad English.
