From inspire to infuse - Samsung Infuse 4G

Just did super one click root and wondering if I can install roms from rom manager now. Inspire root was so much more crazier.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium

Of course everyone is going to have a difference of personal opinion, but if you're looking for a solid ROM try Infused 2.2.3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1220088

Actually gtgs Tom in Tom manager is the only one you can flash without hellraiser

I suggest that you go to the dev section. There was only a couple of roms that were downloadable using rom manager. But now that he's moved to a new phone, he may have removed it.
Cranky...

My main question is am I able to do custom roms now just by doing super one click. On the inspire I had to create a gold card and took 20 mins to root. This took 5 mins or less lol

Not quite, you also need to install mod 3e recovery, and clockwork mod.
Easiest way (for me) is to odin uckd5 stock + root + 3e recovery (just follow link below), then download rom manager or whatever any other way you want to install custom rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1092021

So i tried odin. Came up com8 then bricked my infuse. Fixed it but now nervous to try it again. Any suggestions

Dont be afraid, the infuse is unbrickable. Lol

1. Root - Best to use Super One Click (Find in Dev section)
2. Replacing Recovery file with Root Explorer app. (Free @ 4shared.com)
3. Download Rom Manager in the Market. (Free). In the app, Click flash ClockWorkMod Recovery and select Galaxy S i9000.
4. Shop for Roms in the Dev section and follow steps.
If you do your research in the dev section, you will be fine but you must follow step by step!

For future reference Adam outler packaged the defuse (froyo) kernel into a one click heimdall package, you can find it in the same thread as the one click uckj4 GB ROM heimdall.
The defuse one is for froyo and will root you and has cwm baked in. all you need is Java (any operating system) the heimdall backend (link in the Java app to install it) and on windows you need drivers (you already have them)
You may need to open the jar file from command line depending on the OS but its pretty easy.

[Q] Why can't I update CWMR?

I just picked up a G2X off Craigslist which was already rooted and running what looked to be a modified version of CM7 with some proprietary apps integrated. I knew I wanted to run stock CM7, so I was planning a full wipe, and I was thankful that he had already rooted the phone for me.
I have some kind of issue with CWMR, though. The one installed on the phone is a 4.0.x derivative, which for whatever reason was incapable of flashing the latest CM7 nightlies. Luckily I was able to boot into the existing OS install and flash the latest CWMR (5.x), which got the job done and installed the latest nightly properly.
Here's the thing, though; I can't seem to *keep* CWMR installed. After flashing the latest CM7 nightly, I found myself staring down the old 4.x version instead. On my other devices I just flash CWMR and I'm good to go. How come it's reverting with this device?
Did you flash with NVFlash or thru Rom Manager? NVFlash is the way to go. Link for it can be found in the CM7 thread.

I used rom manager, since that has always worked on other phones. I looked into nvflash, but it appears to be windows only; is there any option that can be performed directly on the device, or that works in linux?

Look in the dev section again there's also a way for Mac/Linux.

There's also a link in the CM7 nightly thread. The G2X requires nvflash method, the flash thru rom manager is considered a "fake"flash.

Even though the flash through Rom Manager is a "fake flash" it still requires root to flash as it flashes CWM to the cache directory. In order to root the phone you must install CWM at least the first time using the NVFlash method and then run the root zip. Once you have done that you can use the ROM Manager one but you must reboot into recovery using ROM Manager to run that version of CWM. I personally don't recommend Rom Manager for the G2X, but I must say, it does work great on some other devices. For many devices, including the Nexus One, Koush is doing the so-called "fake flash" (he and Cyanogen Steve don't consider it fake) to keep the ROM untouched to not interfer with OTA updates, etc. Once the phone is running recovery, whether from the actual recovery partition or from the cache parition where Koush's Rom Manger puts it, whatever it can do is the same and functions the same as recovery is simply an image loaded into phone memory and then run from RAM. One it is loaded and running the image in the ROM is not accessed again during that recovery session.

[Q] Need CWM for sgs4g 2.3.6 official.

Has anybody got a version of CWM that will work on the sgs4g? I accidentally flashed the galaxy s CWM from rom manager before finding this forum. Nothing has changed on the phone, except if i boot into CWM recovery i always get verification errors.
Also, are there any ROMs for the sgs4g that is running 2.3.6?
Thanks to anybody who can help.
Get rid of ROM Manager. I've read it doesn't work well on this phone. Check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1380331 for a 2.3.6 ROM with the latest CWM/root/voodoo lagfix.

This may just be a noob question and I hope I'm posting in the right place. I'm running 2.3.6 as well and want to flash Valhalla Final onto my device. The instructions say you must have pre-installed kernel with clockwork recovery. Do I need to use Heimdall and load a kernel with clockwork recovery or is there another way to get the CWM? I am still learning the basics of all this stuff. Forgive my ignorance.

Thanks to everyone for their insight. My sgs4g is no more now. Luckily, I learned a lot about flashing with it before it died. Including unbricking. Still haven't gotten heimdall to work. But I think I have been trying to run the regular exe instead of the front end. We'll see. Hopefully I get paid this week to cut on the internet again. Killing me here.

Currently on UCLB3 2.3.6 - How do I flash a custom ROM or kernel?

I did do a lot of searching around but it's information-overload and 99% of what I've read is for folks who are on something older than UCLB3.
So every time I find something that looks like it works and spend time reading it, I discover it doesn't work for UCLB3. VERY frustrating!
I can't figure out how to root UCLB3. Looks like nobody knows how to yet.
How do I get a custom ROM & kernel on here? I'd like to use Entropy's DD and a rooted stock ROM or something reliable.
Just got the phone today and it has 2.3.6 UCLB3 on it.
I have Windows so I can't use the Heimdall approach which seems to be for Linux or Apple.
I am famliar with ODB though.
edit: Currently trying to figure out how to get CWM installed so I can flash an unsecured kernel. Which should then get me the ROM's I want.
Which seems to be a "gotcha" since it looks like you need root to install CWM or you need to odin old kernel on top of the new one, which I'm worried may brick things.
edit #2: Found out you can use the Windows version of Heimdall. Didn't know there was one. Then I used this (second half of first post) to install red CWM. It soft bricked my phone but I don't care since I'm flashing something else.

I'm going to be repeating a few things already offered here, so please bear with me... If your goal is a Samsung Infuse with rooted UCLB3 do the following:
1 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524081
1a - Since you are already on UCLB3, you can probably skip the first Heimdall and go right to post #2 - this will get you "red" CWM which will allow you to load unsigned CWM zip packages. (Main reason to do the first step is to lay down a good partition table, install a clean rom, and flash the gingerbread bootloaders).
2 - Copy rooted UCLB3 rom to your internal SD Card (not the external one). Create a folder called "!ROM!" so that it shows up first in CWM and then copy roms and other install packages there.
2a - Here's Dman's rooted, deodexed, zipaligned UCLB3 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508619
2b - If you want the stock kernel, download and copy both files linked in the first post, otherwise just the first one.
2c - If you want to keep "red" CWM (recommended) and also have video and hdmi work, copy Entropy's latest kernel to your sdcard (PM me if you want a CWM package as there is no official CWM package as of yet). Otherwise, once rooted you will need to unzip the 7z linked here, copy zimage to your sdcard, download SGS Kernel Flasher from the market and use that app to flash the kernel. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24459243&postcount=448
3 - Next, power off phone and boot recovery using three finger technique (Vol+/Vol-/Power, release power when bottom lights go on, hold volume keys until you get red CWM).
3a - Do the following - wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, advanced-wipe dalvik cache, back to main..mounts-format system
3b - From main menu, install zip, choose zip, pick your rom and flash
3c - If you have the Entropy MHL kernel, flash this next.
3d - When done, go back and reboot
4 - Let the phone boot and then let sit for 5 min or so, then go through the initial setup process
4a - Open apps drawer, run SuperUser and update binaries - this will also confirm that you have root.
4b - Open Google market, upgrade to Play, download any utility apps you need
4c - If you are going back to the stock kernel, download SGS Kernel, copy zimage to your sdcard, and flash (note that if you do this you will lose the ability to flash other custom roms, and would have to redo qkster's CWM Heimdall)
5 - Reboot and enjoy.
If you want to explore further, here is a page with other roms listed (note that some of the info applies to froyo and some to non-ATT Infuses so read with care):

cz,
that was the whole heimdall 1click idea. post #1 - rom and restore if needed.
post #2: cwm recovery to flash custom rom.
if you want root stock, dman has made a uclb3 base, deoxdex, rooted and zipaligned. you would flash that in cwm and then flash entropy newest kernel to give you everything.
that is how you would have a rooted stock uclb3...but why would you when there is vagabond..
