Hey everybody! I was thinking about getting a nexus S 4g off ebay and was wondering can you use the capacitive buttons as a notification indicator. I remember being able to do this on my Samsung Moment with something called keylight. If you can, is it ROM specific or an app you can install. Thanks in advance!

Yes its called back light notifications (BLN) found in most kernels for the nexus s. Its baked into the kernels. Of course you will have to be rooted with clockwork recovery. Just look for BLN abbreviations in the kernel discriptions.

Backlight notification (BLN). It is included in most kernels. You will also need the BLN Control app from the market. The free version should be fine but if you want notifications for missed calls or blinking you need the Pro version.

I have a nexus s 4g and I know it doesn't have a notification led, but I wondering if anyone knew of a app that functions like led notifications that Ivan use?
Also what's a good flashlight app?

Only home button?
I guess it doesn't have to be only one of them.

You need to flash some kernel that supports BLN and install bln app (from the market), that's it...

Does Netarchy support BLN?
Yes he does. I use his kernel now with BLN
I really think that all kernels in dev section support bln and voodoo...

I'm using V2 on my i9020A and loving it. I flashed Koush's 1st rom too but it didn't have wifi 3g or SMS I also flashed koushs second release and everything except camcorder works but the SMS apk he added was off (the icon is too big) or maybe I should say that its bigger than the rest of the icons. All in all I'd say that V2 is the most stable. But Koush is a hell of a dev so I'd say his will be looking good in the next couple releases

Everything you need to know about ICS kernels in my thread:

See post#3 for kernel features.
Try this one, it's really close to stock and was stable when i used it:

Voodoo Control app already works on the stock kernel, you just need root.

yeah, the app starts sure, but you don't have any voodoo drivers so it won't work
I think the app Voodoo Control Plus (paid) has the ability to load the Voodoo driver on rooted devices

I stand corrected.

Close to stock is still very very far from being stock. When your stock.

Can't be done until devs get the kernel source.

As stated by btm fdr it can't be done without an altered kernel. There's a topic in the general forums about them compiling. (BTW: what you're look for is called "bln" or backlight notification)
