well, I like the new Sense interface, but:
since coming from my HTC tatto with CM7, i liked the possibility of having dozens of screens to put my widgets, apps and whatever on.
Now as the Sense theme has "only" seven screens, and with friend stream, weather, calendar, notes and the homecreen, there are not much screens left to put anything on.
So is there a possibility to add some screens, as in the not-Sense-Roms? (ie similar to the screens CM7 from HTC Tattoo)
I don't want to use another UI, i like Sense, but the only thing that just bugs me is the limitation to 7 screens only.
An ideas, possibilities without changing UI?
dude i think your stuck with it unless you run the no-sense

I hope these are possible.
#1 a simple flip clock w/out weather (like the digital, don't need two weathers )
#2 SIMPLE theme application (icon replacement to do with a wallpaper?)
#3 HTC_IME
Ghods I LOVE THIS THING!
From other's comments, the HTC IME doesn't work well with this resolution. Ends up being all pixelated.
will have to wait for one for the Droid or a Nexus/HTC one I guess.

For #1, Home++ works fine - and has flip clock and flip date included in it, as well as an animated clock....but it does completely change your launcher/home apk.
It's one of the best (and my personal favorite), it doesn't know what to do with live wallpapers at all....

Yeah, I kinda like the existing launcher.. was just hoping for a simple Flip Clock widget... and Home++ is neat, yes, but I'm still hoping for a simple theme program.. here's a folder full of Icons and a wall paper.. make it happen... simple stuff.

His point is HTC and MOTOROLA are competitiors - so don't hold your breath for them devices to share IMEs.</captainObvious>

I'm saying that he may be referring to the IME of the HTC "Droid" Eris, which is really just the hero. However, that's probably the same as the Hero's anyway.
The Eris has a normal 480x320 screen, not the larger Droid/N1-size screens, which is the issue with the HTC_IME - resolution.
-bZj
For the flip clock, try <tone=ironic>"Flip Clock" </tone>from the Market. It's by the same developer as Home++, but it's a standalone app, and a widget for the default launcher (home screen). And yes, it's animated--you can watch it flip.
For a theming app, get MetaMorph and AndExplorer. You have to download metamorph themes from the Android themes section of XDA (they're not on the Market) and unzip them to the proper folder on your sdcard, which is a bit of a a hassle, but it's amazing. If you want super, super simple, only theme the icons and wallpaper, then you want a home replacement, like Better Home. But I recommend you please, please try MetaMorph. It takes a bit of effort, but it's very simple to use once you've taken the time to unzip the file to the proper folder.
As for HTC_IME, nope. Best you can do use use Cyanogen's one, which is pixellated and doesn't look right in landscape. But until HTC releases a Sense-based device with a high-res screen, that's the best you're gonna get. (I'd love to see them release the HTC Passion with an Espresso interface... mmmmm.....)
EDIT-...someone already said what I said...had this open from earlier and didn't refresh.
Dosen't Metamorph require root tho? (remember, non-rooted here).. but I'll take a look at it.

Yep, I totally forgot you said non-root. Well, without root, you can't theme. Some apps are theme-able, but nothing outside of those apps. If you just want icons and a wallpaper, you need a home replacement that has themes. Better Home, dxTop, aHome, GDE, FreshFace... All have many themes, and I have used them all. I have finally decided which home is the best: the default. But if you really want themes, go for it.
But seriously... you should just root already.

Same here, I did like PandaHome on my G1, but I won't use OpenHome again if you paid me.. Panda was/is doing a great job on supporting all the other home themes (saved on SD card no less).. but then OpenHome started encrypting their themes so no one else could use them.. and was changing the encrypting on a regular basis so they just couldn't just add in a decrypter to the other programs.... "Open" Home my patoot!.

You're signing a ZIP for the new sense icons?
yeah, i also would like the sense 2.0 icons without the AOSP 2.1 icons. Alot of the icons in sense 2.0 didnt change and were replaced with the 2.1 icons in that zip....
please post the zip when your finished
Isnt Desire 2.1...
no, those are the AOSP 2.1 icons. Sense 2.0 uses different icons...
yeah i actually tried that one a few hours ago...only to be greated by forcecloses at boot.
i just finished my own set of desire icons that worked so all is well
can you make a flashable zip? i really only need to get back my stock "people" icon back, i changed everything else....

Hmmm,Id actually prefer something else, few are ok, nothing special,if I had my pc id be all over making my own, anyways...if theres a flashable zip posted ill check em out, thanks.
well im kinda new at this so idk how to make a signed zip..... i installed the zip from that thread, then removed the messages and google talk applications, and reinstalled them to get their stock icons back...its kinda tedious but its the only way that i know how to do it haha....
Here is the Desire icons only. It is a flashable zip just put on SD card root and flash from recovery. Nandroid first just in case.
This will include icons:
Browser
Settings
Phone
Music
Voice Search
Clock
Youtube
Gallery

zippy man i tried to flash that zip u just posted and i rebooted my phone and now it just stays on a black screen. wtf?
I've asked a few people and searched like crazy with no real answer so I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I'm running Calk's HD rom and it's awesome. I would just prefer a 4 row app drawer as opposed to the 5 it comes with. Is there an easy way to change this? I haven't been able to locate the setting in the rosie.apk. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
What if you use adw launcher? You can change it from 3 to 8.
http://www.appbrain.com/app/adw-launcher/org.adw.launcher
Oh wait I think he is using adw, well then go to settings, adw launcher settings, screen preferences, under desktop layout change the Desktop Columns from 5 to 4.
Thanks. I'm referring to sense though. I should have specified. I know how to do it with adw and launcherpro. I wish it were that easy in sense.
Get to duh choppa!
ah crap, sorry
You need to decompile your Rosie.apk and change the "5" value in the all_apps_view.xml (its actually titled something like that) to a "4". Then you will need to recompile and flash.

Thanks so much. It looks like to do this the xml would need to be converted first or done with hex editing. Way beyond my skill. But I'm going to trying recompiling the apk using the all_apps_view.xml from a different rosie with a 4 app drawer. I'll post my results.
That didn't work. Not sure the setting lives there. The rom I grabbed the all_apps_view.xml file from has an opaque app drawer, calk's has transparent. After compiling the rosie with the new xml file and rebooting, I still had a 5 row app drawer but the background was opaque.

there are 3 changes to be made.... one is the one u were given already.
keep in mind that u MUST decompile cuz it changes things inside the resources.arsc file
the second one is inside values/integer.xml
change
Code:
<integer name="allprogram_grid_columns">5</integer>
to have the value 4 instead of 5.
and in values/dimens.xml change
Code:
<dimen name="all_program_grid_view_horizontal_spacing">1.0dip</dimen>
to have the value 6.0dip.
that should work.
good luck.
edit:
just saw u said u using the HD rom... i was referring to the a non HD rosie... so although it should still be the same thing, it might not be... so keep that in mind in case it wont work... but thats how u would do it for the regular Rosie.

Ok, that's a little over my head considering I don't even see the xml files you're referring to. I'm only able to play with what I can see by unpacking the apk using simple methods. Changing the all_apps_view file changed the drawer background, which is undesired. If I simply swap out the the full rosie.apk from the other rom, I can achieve the 4 row drawer with the opaque background but I'm looking to retain the translucent. So, perhaps it's easier to start with the other rosie with the opaque background and modify that to have a translucent background? Can using the original all_apps_view accomplish this or is there an easier way?

Hi there!
One of the thing that I'm struggling with HTC is the fact that from the moment the have moved to android they have always put the black background on the all apps menu which isn't so beautiful. Is there anyway here who know if it could be possible to have, at least, the same background image of the home for the all apps menu?
P.S. And by the way I don't get why is not possible to customize the background iamge of the all apps menu, come on this was possible on windows mobile!!!!

Well of course, you extracted it with 7zip. Grab apktool or something else that can unpack APKs properly and decrypt the XMLs etc., use it to extract the APK and then you should be able to edit it easily enough.
EDIT: You'll also need to pull com.htc.resources.apk from /system/framework and install it with the command
Code:
apktool if com.htc.resources.apk
to properly decrypt the APK
EDIT: Although I can't find the XML referenced above in the Rosie.apk from my Sense 3.5 device...(HTC Explorer).
EDIT: In res\values\colors.xml I found a reference for a colour "all_item_background" which is #ff000000 (i.e. black), but it only appears to be used for as the colour for some text. Despite not really wanting to have a transparent background here, it's bugging me.

Galaxy Y is a Samsung phone, so it doesn't have Sense. It has TouchWiz. So the launcher is different to the Sense one. It is almost certainly possible to do a similar thing, but it won't be done exactly the same.
I believe the TouchWiz launcher it called twlauncher.apk or something like that. Pull that file off your phone and use apktool to extract it, look in the XMLs in res\layout and try to find the background colour. It'll probably be #ff000000. You could try using something like grep to search for that in the folder to try and narrow down the possibilities.
Just a few thoughts that might possibly help.

Can anyone make a mod like the image shown here for cm10 on our Sensation? The original post (v1.1) is in the link below. Thanks in advance
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28325580&postcount=1
So far i know we all have the weather widget as a lockscreen
Put finger on homscreen and hold it.
Then move the bottom slider to display
Use Lock screen style
select Weather
The rest is to put the icons in the right *.apk.
So far the icons have the same size is this not an issue.
Ok the size of the widget must be changed in /framework.
That's a little bit more work, but possible
Also the names of the icons can be different and how much
we have for our sensation.
Will check right now the icon size. Report later...

The way this looks, all you have to do is change some lines in updater-script. Give me a while, I was just about to Flash CM9 so I'll try doing this for the Sensation after the flash.

Did it! There's a CM9 and a CM10 version. Because CM10 is still a work in progress and gets updated every day, I can't guarantee it will work across all versions but always have a Nandroid to be safe.
When transferring the file, be sure to properly eject USB. Apparently not ejecting it corrupts small files and makes kitteh sad
CM9 - http://goo.gl/kYWnS
CM10 - http://goo.gl/278ek
I tested the CM9 one and it worked, hopefully the JB works out the same as well.
