[Q] Unlock bootloader with HTC software - HTC Desire S

Hello,
can the new HBOOT 2.x be unlocked by the htc software available under htcdev.com/bootloader ?
Are there any advantages in using this software?
thanks in advance!

No.. Htc has not added desire s in their list yet.. Till then wait

I somewhere read that it is possible...

Why don't you give it a shot, I am curious too...

I've also read that someone said that they tried it and even though device isn't in the supported list it worked, but, no evidence was provided and it all sounds unnecessarily risky!
There is currently no need to risk our devices any further like this, as HTC are slowly making progress to unlock them for us. I mean who would have thought that we would have been running official Sense 3.0 a month ago!
But, don't listen to me, if you're willing to take the risk then off you go!

It functioning with latest OTA update. But, we have better solutions

Here you can read it: Push me

Actually there is no risk. The procedure described at the HTC website leads you to get_identifier_token for your device that you have to send them. Afterwards they send you an unlock code binary file. Then you can decide to use it or not. This is not a reflash procedure - no risk at all...
Also there is no indication that Desire S is not supported. There is said clear enough:
The following 2011 models (Launched prior to September, 2011) will be supported on this web site. Devices in GREEN are currently unlockable, check back often for updates on the unlock status of additional devices:
And the device listed below are all in GREEN
Model FOTA/ROM
EVO 3D (Sprint) 2.08.651.2
EVO 3D (Rogers) 1.20.631.2

Just logon to htcdev and follow the steps. You will be impressed!!

wow..thanks...
Is it a version for newer slcd or normal display...or both..??
I don't actually know, but I suppose for both...
There aren't any separate versions, you just need a newer release (such as this) to support SLCD screens.
Running this will update you to froyo, but of course make it impossible to root (for now, at least).
Any word on any improvements in this version?
First look: seems to be the OTA version...
if i extract the zip and make a version with root using dsixda kitchen will remove the hboot..??
with kind regards..Alex
Is this just the same as what all the roms here are based on? Or is it a newer build?

Thank you so much! Been looking for this for past week since apparently I missed my OTA "IMEI cluster" distribution.
Now I have to learn how to install the thing -- since i've never done anything ti an android phone. All my prior experience was with with RUU for Windows Mobile.
Is this where I have to use HTC Sync to install this? (braces for being slapped around)
Thanks for sharing

Jonney - You will need to wait for confirmation from someone more experienced with Android than I am. I have been here at XDA for several years and installed many ROMS onto my Windows Mobile phones... However, for my 2 ANDROID phones I've had since then -- the HERO, and the DESIRE -- I have chosen, for now, to stay with the "stock roms" that are shipped with my phones -- as well as their official updates. To be clear, I have not rooted my Desire. And it is my intent to update my Desire to this new official Froyo Android 2.2 OS update.
It is my understanding that this is the official FROYO UPDATE that GSM Desire Phones have received "OTA" (Over the air) via "Software Updates". LOOK BELOW AT THE SITE image from where this file came. The site is called "Shipped-ROMS". Look at the list of files here. This page is devoted just to the specific phone, the HTC BRAVO, which was the original codename used by HTC before the Desire was actually released. You can confirm that by looking at the "DEVICE DATABASE" that is linked to from the top of every page on XDA-developers, under the XDA logo:
For me, the question is:
HOW to install the file. I *believe* it is done using HTC Sync on your Desktop PC, connected by USB cable to your Desire.
HTC Sync (app for your PC suitable for syncing with the Desire) is downloadable here:
If anyone is here who can confirm the process, it would be helpful to many, thank you! We want apps2sd, "close to" 720p video, and, improved speed!
Thanks for sharing!!!!!
will I be able to apply the ROM even my Desire is an Asia verson?
Got the update already OTA but always nice to have RUU file to hand in case of emergencies - good look!!
so this is actually the newewst version of FROYO 2.2 ?
I found these steps from the forum
somebody brave enough to try?

Flashing HTC Sensation with original ROM?

I am about to buy a HTC Sensation. However, my provider (Swisscom, Switzerland) offers it only with Branding. Is there a way I can flash such a branded device with the original ROM from HTC? Is it available anywhere? Will I have problems because of the signed bootloader? Thanks in advandace for any help!
Currently, the goldcard method doesn't seem to be working. That's the only way to flash an official ROM without having an unlocked bootloader.
So, currently, sadly no way to do it. Hopefully when HTC release an unlocked bootloader for it, we will see changes.

Do you know whether HTC is planning to do so at all? I heard they wanted to make future bootloaders unsigned, but will the Sensation get an "Update" or something like that to have it unsigned?
I asked HTC about how and when the bootloader will be unlocked and they just tweeted me back saying "Good question. More specific details will be shared soon."
So yeah... :/

Hello,
Got a HTC Sensation from Swisscom and I'm wondering the same, any news on this?
I tried an update found on the forum: version 1.35.401.1, tried to install and said 'wrong client id'... Didn't update.
Just sent a request to HTC customer support to know if I'll get the OTA... But I don't expect much from this.
If I can't unlock and root this phone I'm gonna get rid of it and will never get a HTC again, that's one sure thing. Already regret having bought it, should have waited for it to be unlocked first!

You'll have to wait for HTC to unlock the bootloader (or for AlphaRev to do that before HTC). Expect HTC do provide the full unlock in September.
PS. I bought it unbranded meanwhile.

[Q] HTC One XL import

Hi guys,
I bought my HTC One XL on asian site to use it in France. I'am very happy of it (comming from iPhone
This phone seems to be identical to the AT&T One X hardware but with Asian ROM.
It running Android 4.0.4, with HTC sense 4.1
The firmware version state for 2.42.708.3 (I've seen a Rom mod (stock rooted) based of this version on asian sites)
And basebande version 2.20os.32.09.15_10.113.32.28L
The phone had only 3 languages available (but I have add french without problem)
I've not tested LTE so far (only one band of this phone is in common with French LTE).
Do you think I can root it and change ROM following AT&T One X tutorials ?
Thx,
Vince

No need to. Just unlock the bootloader on HTCDev.com. Then install TWRP (custom recovery) and either flash SU or a rooted ROM to get root.
Extra steps of temp root and changing to SuperCID is only needed on the AT&T version, due to the fact that AT&T's CID does not allow bootloader unlock on HTCDev.com. This applies only to AT&T's CID.
Faites ca^^ bonne chance
Thx for these advises !
I'll wait for the Jelly Bean update at end of this month (supposed to) and check if USB audio is working. If not, I'll change the ROM.
CleanROM seems to me to be a good candidate as I'am OK with HTC Sense so far.
Thanks,
V.

[Q] How do I unlock bootloader HTC J Butterfly (HTL21) post OTA 1.29.970.1?

Hello, all.
I am currently stationed overseas in Japan and on au KDDI service and had purchased the HTL21 HTC J Butterfly.
I unlocked bootloader on my first device using SharpIS method of changing SuperCID (22222222) and getting unlock_code.bin from HTC Dev site on stock firmware phone shipped with (1.15 version I believe). Was rooted and running stock. Phone hard bricked about a week after SuperCID process was done and I wasn't fiddling with anything after I rooted phone, so I don't think it bricked from this.
au kindly traded my hard bricked phone for a brand new replacement (yay!). I was hesitant to root this one due to the last one hard bricking and possibly being detected when sent to HTC for repairs. I saw there was a software update and I... STUPIDLY... updated to the latest firmware thinking it would be easier to root after the update rather than go through the process of flashing stock recovery and flashing then losing root. I've had an HTC device before that I'd unlocked and S-OFF so I know how much of a pain it can be.
Now after 1.29.970.1 OTA, I got the itch to tinker again and I no longer can do temproot method to rewrite SuperCID using goroh kun root tools and SharpIS rewrite method. I type adb shell command and I get $, but when I do dev/sh command it says "device not found" and no # (which I know is root access). This is similar to what Droid DNA (sister device) on Verizon are dealing with on their new updates or ones that shipped with latest firmware.
My question is: Is there some other way to get temproot and another root exploit that would allow me to rewrite the CID to SuperCID (22222222 or whatever number if HTC blocked that one too) so I can unlock bootloader?
fnoji111, SharpIS, and goroh kun have come up with some previous exploits that have been patched in this OTA. I have read some poorly Google-translated tutorials on HTCsoku on how to downgrade where fnoji111 states he had luck downgrading and RUU to previous version but I have had no luck (still get main version lower failure message). I have also searched but have found no other exploits other than the one SharpIS posted in the developer forums which is no longer valid due to 1111111 SuperCID being blocked on HTCDev and now temproot no longer allows access to full administrator write permissions using the rootkit. I am not a developer but I have done this process before with this device and an HTC Evo 3D many times and I can follow a clear instruction. Please help!
For the record I am:
S-ON
Bootloader locked
Software version 1.29.970.1
Hboot version 1.41.0000
Radio 1.01.10.0201 (probably irrelevant)
Thanks in advance for any helpful replies!

While I appreciate the attempt to answer my problem, as I said in my OP I tried the method by SharpIS03 and it no longer works after OTA to 1.29.370.1. I successfully did this method with previous phone at 1.15.370.1. What's been explained is new OTA is new update disabled write permission to system partition meaning no temproot.
some HOPE?
something new on this site!
maybe some luck? is the same procedure....another kind of s off method, and new stuff from vietnamese people!

Not work with unlock code.... To unlock must be reflashed the radiobaseband... I DON'T kknow-how if with xsim or turbosim it is posibile!
I have no idea if we have some hope to use this phone or of is better to switch directly to anoher one.... taking in account that au introduced already htc one with 13 ultrapixel camera that maybe means less interest for butterfly and less people that gonna work on it...._

Ah, mine is vodafone UK, so if i flash this RUU will it re lock my desire s to vodafone? or will my phone stay unlocked? Or what???
By locking i mean will it be sim locked?
