Xev_10177 suggested that my thread on developers leaving should be used as a resource for all the people wanting to try and pickup developing for the Infuse in sight of almost all of our beloved devs leaving. To make things simpler and to have a thread specifically dedicated to such a thing I have made this one.
Here is Xev_10177's original post:

Many of us here want to help pick up the dev community here since many are jumping ship. So let's help each other out here. Don't be greedy. Let's share links between us. If you found a good link and you think it might be helpful to others, share it here. Let's pick up the community and keep rolling 'cause there are many of us who are keeping our Infuse4G's so... And obviously, your help will be appreciated. If I find any useful links, I'll obviously share them here.

I have been taking apart roms all day I think with some time I may be able to do this lol hopefully I have a good grip before android 2.4 comes out and I can cook us up a rom!

And sure, I'm also in, that is, if you guys approve obviously. We might have to starting to PM each other on regards with who's on the team and everything.

thanks and sorry

although the question should be in general, I vote that the link in the second post be stickied. there are a lot of people (myself included) who would like to start learning how to dev, and to be honest, I didn't even know there was a chef section on XDA (I'm fairly new here, don't kill me, lol).
so I think a perminant link to the list of dev-teaching tools in that post would be a great addition to any dev forum
just my thoughts

Google has pulled the pdk information as it was "misleading" Since that information seemed vital, some more one-on-one help would still be nice. I'm at the beginning of a week off and wanted to dabble as well. I don't have actual programming background, but I figure ways to make things work (hulu on GB ftw!)

Hey Mates.
As some of you might know, im a developer for the T-Mobile Galaxy S II Which has lots of things that this phone has which means i could do alot of work for this phone. Mods could be easier to port since this phones only has few differences.
If you want to see my work go to the T-Mobile Galaxy S II forums and you will see my ROM which is always the first on the list. I was a dev for the Sensation 4G also, Well Mytouch 4G and Vibrant 3G also.
I would love to develop for this device since i've deved for T-Mobile only. The only thing is that i don't have a penny to by a device for development. It would be very nice if you guys help me get one if you all are interested in me developing for you all. Theres alot of users here so if you all donate what ever you can, it would help. You are not being forced so if you are not interested don't start commenting here saying bad stuff.
Things i could bring here are.
Custom kernels
My actual ROMs sure
CyanogenMOD 7
ICS maybe when source is out.
Mods as CRT and more stuff you guys like.
Some of my work for you to enjoy seeing. This is The Most recent work.
BeastMOD II From TMO SGSII
BeastMOD S v4 For Sensation
Senseless Extreme for Sensation
Hope you guys can help me get this phone. Thanks! ;-);-)
The more the merrier man.
As i have stated for the Third time......
this is a Hard Yes.
i would like to see a Experianced Dev here to bring these things.
So would I! Lets pool it up! PM me w details

Im not getting paid. I said to help me get the phone to dev on. NOT TO GET PAID. Different things. But what ever my man.
I want to see where im violating rules please. You have a link my dear mod? Because this is more likely a bounty thread. This is not a ROM thread with me asking users to donate or better, asking for my payment as you implied. I dont have this device so i thought i would do this since my current phone has some parts as this phone and i could bring my stuff to it. Now mod tell me where i violated the rules. THANKS
I dont see users saying bad things here. All i see is people willing to help me get the phone.
We used donation pools to aquire devices for multiple devs in the Infuse section, no mods ever closed our fund raising thread.
Melvin I recommend setting up a ChipIn, worked great for Infuse Dev Device Donations. Allows people to see the status of the funds needed and shows your contribution at work

With the amount of knowledge that is about in the G3 forum, I wanted to try getting a thread going that would be specific to development tutorials so that people like myself, who are interested in getting into development, have a wealth of knowledge and expertise of established devs at their disposal.
So at this stage I would request that devs such as HillBeast, Rubensollie, Marcellusbe, kyrillos, J. Purungrit, Mohanshbhr, The Dark Lest at, Rudolf895, or anyone else with great tutorials, or knowledge to developed tutorials post them here.
I realise it is a lot to ask of devs to post tutorials as they will more than likely already be busy with their own projects. But I feel that a thread like this will open up doors for some talented people who may be able to provide some new and interesting roms/features and maybe even help each other out with bug fixs for existing ports.
Sorry mods if this thread is unneeded.
Please guys, share knowledge so we can all learn and help grow

We already have tutorials and threads and I think making a new one wouldn't be that beneficial.
A wiki, on the other hand....
There are a set of tutorial by Rudolf on Youtube. He had posted in on XDA too. That is the best set of tutorials. And also, certain tools like QtADB, APKMultitool are very useful.
Was more looking to try and keep all tuts within one thread. Easier to read all tuts and collate info that way. Although as suggested a wiki would probably work better

I was contemplating making a wiki myself when I wrote the above post, and look and what has happend since; somebody else made one!
I'll help out with writing stuff once I'm finally able to keep my hands off of my new sgt 10.1.
Just remember, be as modular as possible. That's the whole point of wiki, not repeating work.
ex. make one page for adb and subsections on that page for each command, and when a command is needed in a tut or something just link to the subsection

Im not gonna make a new wiki
So its not gonna be a "true" wiki where users can register and edit it? Why didn't you make one of those?

I think that since we have begun posting builds for everyone out there to try and hopefully gain progression, it is time for the disclaimer:
This is, quite obviously, not only a work-in-progress, but being accomplished by novice developers. We aspire to greatness but are still in our infancy. Having said that, no one will knowingly post anything they do not think will be successful, and as of now, no untested builds will be posted on the front page. Nevertheless, no one is responsible if you lose your files, brick your device, or inadvertently cause a nuclear war. If you are seeking absolute perfection, RUN NOW WHILE YOU STILL CAN!! However, if you are all about the learning process as we are, stick around and see what 'develops'!

*A fellow journeyman of the development process has begun a blog with useful tips on learning Breakfast, Brunch, and Lunch, among other things. He goes by the name synrgi, and a link to his blog is here:
http://blog.cameronpickett.com/2011/09/16/breakfast-brunch-and-lunch/
It has been suggested that we learn the ins and outs of Github and utilizing our own repository. I have one ready to use and it can be found here:
https://github.com/BMP7777/project-rookie-4.1.1
It makes sense that we keep our little project 'in house' until we are ready for the big leagues; Also, it will help us all have a place to gather new, workable files and share among ourselves. (thanks to new ion?)
INSTRUCTIONS, TIPS, and TRICKS:
Many of us rookies have been having trouble getting ourselves 'up and running' with our environment, myself maybe the most. In an effort to save new rookies some headaches, I will say that the general consensus for a successful environment the first time out is to follow steps #1 through #5 on the 'Compile JB on Ubuntu' tutorial. From there, following the steps listed in sk8rs 'Cyanogenmod 10 Alpha' is said to be the way to go. After many failed attempts, I have followed these steps and performed a successful (bootable and functional) build. It can be smooth sailing for some, and for others(like me), it can be like having a root canal. But, KEEP TRYING! Follow the steps, practice, be prepared for any number of issues, and research any time you have a problem or question. Questions posted here will be answered; we are all one big happy family. But, if your question is silly, i.e. something you should have taken the time to explore before asking, don't get your feelings hurt when you receive some ribbing and ridicule along with an answer. It happens to me all the time. LOOK IT UP. It will eventually work out and you will be successful!
Rule #1 is RESEARCH
Rule #2 is RESEARCH(Remember FIGHT CLUB?)
Rule #3 is PATIENCE
Rule #4 is DON"T GIVE UP
Any question, no matter how 'noobie', is welcome here. But, I think everyone would agree that the fastest way to learn is to research AND ask for help. All the above topics are here to assist in the learning process, but some of the 'HOW TOs' can also be slightly contradictory in terms of steps if you are new to the process. A good example is the above listing of steps pulled from the one tutorial and the other. The reason behind this is simple: the entire AOSP(Compile JB on Ubuntu) tutorial is meant to get you started if you want to compile and build from the whole android base. Sk8rs thread is designed with building ONLY Cyanogenmod 10 in mind. Sk8rs thread was posted for those already familiar to the process, so us rookies need to start from ground zero. The best advice from one rookie to another is to study, practice, THEN ASK. CHECK THE POSTS, THREADS, AND STICKIES. For those new to XDA, you can look up specific questions you have by typing them in the top right box. If they have been asked, you will get a hit. No one minds helping, and we all need it here, but pretty soon the questions will begin to get redundant like in every other thread. Like with everything else, LOOK IT UP.
Also, it was rightfully pointed out to me that we need to be STUDYING THE CODE. LEARN THE COMMANDS. NONE OF US WILL GET ANYWHERE IF WE JUST COPY AND PASTE. THE WAY TO LEARN IS STUDY!!!
Here is a very useful post by cyanogen, as found by new ion?; everyone should look at the advice offered here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=667298
As with everything else, these instructions are a WIP. More to be posted as I learn...

Just a little question... Did you contact CM10 developpers on the Transformer Prime thread? They probably can be helpfull, as the codebase is pretty similar with Tegra2/Tegra3? Makelegs, Craigacgomez have CM10 running on their TF201 and Loganmc10 on the TF300.

I have tried contacting logan with no response back, but here's the deal. I am going into surgery on Thursday, and will be knocked out for a while. If I can't get this thing stable, il either post what I have for the community to work on, or give it to a private dev for a joint rom. Dunno yet Wel see how today goes

Long painful 2 or 3 weeks listen to your doctors
take your meds. stay away from children and sick people.
wear your mask when outside and everywhere else you go:good:
Good luck, ftmaniac948, remember there's a lot more to do with the development after you get back!

Kidney transplant? Sounds pretty bad. Wish you the best of luck, you'll make it out fine
I'm on it y'all
Hi I'm kinda new into the development side of android coding, but I know about flashing and the other goodies. I would like to create a team to help me and our android community a revolutionary ROM for our device and then release to other developers to port to other devices. I know that I'm probably going to get ridiculed for posting this hear but I have a few cool ideas that I would like to share that I think would make the Android experience on our phone way cooler.
Here are some of the features that I want to add into the ROM that I want help developing that don't exist and that may already exist:
Add widgets and apps into the pull down menu bar and implement that to when the device is locked. Its kinda like the same idea as in 4.2 but I think can be made more better and efficient.
Various build.prop tweaks for better performance.
Removing the bloatware apps from the ROM for more system space and better battery life.
Automatically drop 4g into 3g after a certain amount of time when phone is not being heavily used for better battery life.
Add a widget to switch between 4g and 3g into the notification bar.
Implement the auto arrangement of apps and widgets on the home screen into ICS like jelly bean has if we build off a stock ICS base.
Implement the 4.2 camera app
Implement the 4.2 gallery app
Implement the 4.2 keyboard app
Implement the 4.2 Gmail app
Implement Google Now
Implement a fully working Google wallet app
Add options to switch betwewn a scrolling/non scrolling wallpaper.
Add options to switch between a 5x5/5x4/4x4 launcher.
Add an option when listening to music to go into airplane mode to save battery life.
Add various audio tweaks for enhanced audio.
Increase the auto sync delay over network connection for better battery life.
Implement a CPU/GPU app to overclock for better performance and underclock for better battery life.
Add better and customizable auto brightness settings.
Allow for custom boot images.
Add 4 way Reboot menu.
Add a brightness slider.
Implement an unlocked bootloader.
Implement holding the back button to kill an app.
Possibly implement the Sony Bravia Engine.
Implement nexus 4 notification sounds.
And possibly implement multiview for apps.
I know that some of these things already exists and I think some of the things that don't exist in our current ROMs can be created with some creative coding.
I think that if this project gets up and running we could build this off of a stock VZW JB ROM or we could build this off of a stock ICS ROM .
Let me know what you guys think about this maybe insane idea level of modification to a ROM and hopefully we can get something started.

Dear OP,
Perhaps my response will be more enlightening that some of the others.
First things first. It is understandable to ask for help developing a rom. We all had to start somewhere. We all made mistakes and we all had breakthroughs and anyone who denies this is lying.
Second. Just as we started out from nothing and grown into the devs we are, we had to start by learning on our own. Might I suggest getting a zip of a stock rom and messing with it. Add this, Remove that. Mess up, and restart. Then once you have that, perhaps look at compiling source based roms such as Cyanogenmod. Not only will this get you more comfortable with coding, but rather get you used to spending hours infront of a monitor.
Third, Move from CM to aosp. I know it sounds counter intuitive, but with aosp, you are force to be more creative. Learn how to cherry pick and how to run diffs and such.
Fourth, start something. Anything to show you are making an effort rather than asking for others to code it and hope you get the credit.
This by no means is meant to discourage you, but you will go further and enjoy your creation more if YOU physically stick your hands in the code and mess with it.
Have a great day
atc3030
Considering you never dev'd before maybe try taking baby steps instead of listing every feature under the sun that you want in a Rom plus feature that don't really exist yet.
That does not sound like someone wanting to learn how to dev but more like finding someone to make a Rom for them. We all have the talent to list every feature under the sun we would like to see. That does not qualify someone for dev training. lol
This needs to be deleted

To be fair, had this been posted in general (the correct section) he would have gotten much more help. However people come here looking for ROMs and lately are seeing all these question or incorrect posts.
I hope he does develop something, the more devs the better!
I also think lt would be best if he had something to show before asking for help because basically he is requesting some one build a ROM for him right now.

I think you're missing the point. He asked for help on a ROM he was thinking about making and posted it in the wrong section on top of that. The biggest problem is posting on the wrong forum though By all means release a ROM and purple will appreciate it.
However, release something then ask for help on some features you want to add and other devs will probably help.

Everyone is supportive here helping this guy not set himself up for failure.
Also, if one does not know the difference between a development thread and a general or q&a thread after already making the mistake once then they have a lot to learn before developing anything...

He's by no means a developer this is a guy not asking, but essentially demanding people make him a ROM.
The XDA police are in full effect...

Ok here's where I, usually the quiet guy, am going to get flamed I'm sure. I do understand site rules, and the need for organization. BUT, that said, why does everyone have to be totally anal about it all the time here? The "General" and "Q&A" sections here are TOO General. Everything root-related, not root-related,app-related, plan-related,..etc..etc...etc..etc....(you get my point) ALL gets thrown into the same section. This REALLY degrades from questions or statements getting the attention they NEED half the time. Who wants to sift through 5 pages before they find a question they can answer? Not most people. And to put it frankly, the general attitude around here really bites.
In the OP's defense, the Development section(again another generalized, cluttered section), is EXACTLY where I would want to post a question such as this. It just makes SENSE for it to be here. Would I? No. Why? Because I will get a cyber-smack in the nose for doing it, and breaking the iron-clad-follow-the-rules-or-else rule. In fact, I have posted threads in the Q&A and general sections for various devices here at XDA, and guess what? Only one of said threads got me any answers, and NONE got the attention of the people that needed to see them.
Time to rethink our attitudes, guys. The sense of "community" here is lacking..big time. Take some time to venture into other android websites, and search out XDA on them. You'll see TONS of gripes, and TONS of users that will not come here because of the "Snobiness".. to mention only one of the things that is said.
It's a terrible shame to see such a HUGE resource as this site is be filled with the attitude it is, and have such a bad name externally
Flame me, and you just prove my point.
Mods, if I have violated too many rules, please send me a PM, but also please provide me with a name I can contact high-up so I can also talk to them. My apologies, but I'm just fed up with it, but at the same time this is THE place to be for most of my android needs.
Just food for thought.. carry on people and enjoy your day/night.
@Atari... don't want to quote your long post but the development section is the easiest one to figure out especially if you read the guidelines. If you didn't develop something it doesn't go here. How much simpler can it be?
A question about development is not development. Imagine if it was. The actual ROM downloads would end up being on the 2nd and 3rd pages and lost in people just posting questions.

Point taken. At least there could be a development Q&A though. His question would most likely have fallen to page 2 or three of the current Q&A section in no time, as many of the questions do.
