I know that holding down the back button and tapping home will take a screen capture but it doesn't seem to work inside an application. Example, I want to post a screen cap of a SMS conversation inside handcent.. how do i do that?
In my experience some apps (incl handcent) will exit just from holding down the back button. I don't think there's a way around it other than using a third party screen cap app...
But if anyone has figured it out I'd love to know!

OK this is not a " I can't get mms thread"
I wanna change the way mms is played through messenger. If some one sends more than one pic in a mms its like a short video and I have to wait as it plays and can't ff. Tried handcent and its the same. So its proly android related.
If this can be changed please let me know how...

Asking again .....
Any phone I've ever had played mms messages like that. And all I'd have to do is just press a certain button to move the slideshow along.
Haven't gotten any mms like that yet with the captivate but I could guess that you can either press the menu button and go to next slide or something like that. Or try swiping the screen from right to left like reading a book or bottom to top like scrolling a website.
Edit: I know you want to change it but I don't think you can. That's just how mms works...I think. Maybe a dev can do something.

Is there any app tah really locks the auto rotate function?
I've got a non rooted transformer, honeycomb 3.2 and use it frequently in bed. i find very annoying to have to tap on lower right corner and then open settings and then slide the auto rotation off.
I've already tried different apps like power control plus, beautiful widgets, autorotate ofOff, auto-rotate switch, auto rotate widget and many others like them but all of them simply recall the previuous state when i've manually locked the screen orientation with the method above.
so i'm looking for an app/widget that behaves like asus native lock orientation, or if there is a sort of macro creator that records taps and then create a shrotcut?
I've been looking for the same thing as well. Tried a few widgets like Widgetsoid.
Seriously? Tap the notification clock panel, hit the button that looks like this -|-|-|, and then hit Auto-Rotate off...
Do you guys actually try before you post?

I guess you didn't read the OP...
I've tried various solutions as well, including the above "helpful" suggestion. Rotation lock on the TF doesn't work very well. I'm not sure if this is an Android thing, or a TF thing though...

Maybe is for my bad english but please read my question before criticize:
I've already know your suggested method and actually i'm using it as it is the only one that really works.
but i have to tap once to open the notification panel, tap once again to open the settings panel, then slide the rotation lock (wich sometimes doesn't slide and requires some tries) and then tap again to close the settings panel.
so i was looking for an alternative that involves less tapping.
i've tried some apps and windgets but none of them works as they simply recall the last locked state operated by the method above (if i locked the screen in portrait using asus notification panel, activating the widget rotates and locks the screen in portrait no matter if it was in landscape - of course applications that has fixed orientation maintains their orientation).
Pretty funny. At least you provided an answer

God forbid you have to tap more than 1 time...
If you really can't tap more than 3 times, go write an app that does it in a swipe gesture.

this one might work for you but I think they all are simply other ways of turning on and off rotate in android, and nothing special beyond the method.

Just use SwitchPro Widget...
I use Widgetsoid and one of the option is orientation lock/unlock

Seems lazy, 3 taps is nothing.. You know how many this reply was? Lol you are saying youd rather hit home(1) widget(2) multitask panel(3) app(4) which is more work, than just tapping the corner a couple times

WOW, nobody read his post at all. He's saying that he is looking for an APP/WIDGET that will allow him to control auto rotate and have the auto rotate preference still set AFTER he turns his tablet back on. Stop criticizing him for asking for help. He already said he knows about the setting in the panel, but wants another way. Instead of calling him lazy you could go to the Market and begin trying apps out and see which one works.
Back on topic I have tried the following 2 apps and they seem to work fine for me, even after a few screen offs and ons and a few minutes sitting screen off the settings were still set properly. However if the first one does not work for you the second app just puts a quick shortcut in your notifications. Effectively cutting your taps from 3 to 2.
Auto Rotate On/Off by CurveFish
Auto Rotate Switch by Kenneth Cheng
Tried them both - nope, it still won't work properly. Sorry, but thanks for suggestion anyway. Msybe honeycomb handles auto-rotation switching differently.
Almost every time I hit the home button from within an app and it goes to my home screen. It has to completely redraw the touchwiz interface. I'm running 100% stock firmware.
I was curious if anyone else was experiencing this problem. I find it very annoying and i feel that since this phone has 2GB of ram it shouldn't be having a problem keeping the home screen loaded while in another app.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm confused on what exactly your asking. If course if you hit the home button it's going to go to your home screen. If you're talking about your recent apps, hold the home button then you have plenty of apps to choose from.

Op. For s voice, do you have it set to activate with a double tap of the home key? If you do then that is y get the redraw. S voice is waiting for a second tap to see if it need to activate or just go home. Turn that feature off and it will be snappier
Edit. OK. I see what u mean. Do u have forced 2d hardware acceleration enabled in the development setting?

Yes I do, i thought that may be the culprit but i wanted to see input from elsewhere. Should I disable that?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
Yes. At the least the 2d thing. The home key to go back to the home screen is a personal preference. I use s voice alot so I like to be able to access it right away

I know what he is talking about. It is the amount of time it takes to get to the home screen when you are in a app. It does take a sec to long to get to the home screen.

I know exactly what you're talking about OP, I have the same issue for a while now, and coincidentally I did some research on this just yesterday and found a couple solutions you might be interested in trying:
Solution #1
Solution #2
Solution #3
Solution #4
I skimmed through the solutions and i didn't see the one i believed i helped a friend with. He has the same issue and he had power saving turned on. Once he disabled it, i want to say it was resolved along with other issues. Try this and maybe activate it again and try running one off at a time to see what one it is. Its been a few weeks at least since i talked with the person. Not sure if you have it on or off.
If none of these other solutions work...are you really tied to using the touchwiz launcher? I know launchers like nova and apex give you the option to force the launcher to remain in memory to prevent excessive redraws.
Personally, changing the double tap S memo option made everything a little faster for me.
Hi I was wondering if someone can help me, when i press the home button after sending a text , than go back into messaging app it goes to that same message and not to default text thread of all your texts, is there a hack or a workaround for the text messaging app? because all the 3rd party apps seem to interfere and make it impossible to get texts? hope somebody can help thanks,
You have to press the back button to have that happen. If you press the home button it leaves whatever app you left in the exact state. Call it a staple of multitasking.

It is set up like that so the apps are available for multi-tasking and don't have to be reopened. If you close with home button they are running and will eat your battery. Back button kills app and sends it to muti-task for easy retrieval as a recent app.
Just bought the grey one from bhphoto no tax to CA, there is no problem on the finger print sensor on the grey one even when the screen is ON that people are complaining about, but I wanted to know what app or any other way to close all the app when you press the square button on the lower left side beside the home, other than that I am digging the phone coming from an iPhone 6s+, the "OK google " works amazing now I don't need to type anything when using Google Map.

Bump. I find this annoying too. Anybody?
When you press the square box and pull up all open apps....... Shake the phone and that closes all open apps. It's weird and cool at the same time LMAO. Try it

How did you find this out?
Anybody know how to turn off the shake close feature

Ever figure out how to turn the shake close apps annoying feature???
That is the only way unless you download a battery saver app with that feature.

Ooh they finally added the "remove all" button in the latest OTA update!
Sent from my PURE XL using Tapatalk
Beware on the "Remove All" button in the latest OTA update: It does more than what we ask for! It actually kills the background processes, so that WhatsApp notification and alarm apps no longer work in the background.
Just wondering, does the shake to close all apps still work, or has that been removed now that the button is there?
Also, did the shake to close all apps close background processes as well before?
Is there any way to prevent it from killing the background apps? I wish it didn't do that.
