I'm a noob here. erased my recovery.img file and decided install a theme zip file. As I install it and reboot it, its just stuck on the android logo. it's reappearing over and over. Can any1 please help! And yes my g1 had been rooted already.
Is there a way i can mount my phone back on to the pc and use cmd to put back in the recovery.img?
Maybe this can help
Did you just erase the recovery.img file of the sd card? I bet you still got the recovery image but you just delete the "install" file. just take the battery out, pop back in, and press home and power on. it should go to the recovery image. if you make a nandroid backup, just restore it. if not just flash the latest cyanogen rom.
You can toggle usb on or off in the recovery menu. when i first flashed cyanogen, i forget to flash the htc file so i got stuck on the mytouch screen. lucky the recovery image i used had usb toggle
or you can wait a while and see. usually the first time you flash a rom/theme it takes a while to load up

Oh ok. What did you do? was it even close to what i said?
I just quickly ran to Wal-mart and bought a SD Adapter along with a SD card reader/writer that connects to the usb. Took out my sd card from the G1 attached it to the adapter and the adapter to the sd reader/writer and attach connect it to the usb motherboard. It automatically opens up the sd card and I just erase the update file and copy my backup right back in there. Boot up my G1 holding camera button+power on, reloads everything and then reboot the phone with home+power button. When that triangle with ! mark showed up, Alt+L, then Alt+S, TADA!! got it. Good thing to do a backup before doing an installment of something.
thanx alot though.
Hi everyone,
Let's go straight to the point here's what took my phone down :
I had HTC Desire that I rooted with unrevoked. A several days ago I was notified that a new OTA update (the 2.29.405.2 version, the 28.89MB zip file) was available, so I downloaded it and tried to install it. The update wouldn't install as my phone was rooted. I found on some forum some guy that said he had the same problem and managed to install the update by renaming the zip file update.zip and moving it to the root of the SD card so this is what I did.
Now my phone is stuck at the HTC white boot screen, keeps rebooting. When I boot it in recovery mode it displays an error message (see attached file) like :
SD cheking....

No image!
Loading...[PB99DIAG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
Loading...[PB99IMG.zip]

I'm really new to all this and any help is more than welcome!
Well as far as I can see that's not an error message, since I get the same messages when booting into my Recovery mode on Nexus One (and mine is working).
Did you try wiping the phone and / or flashing your previous ROM again?
Thx for your reply.
Yeah I tried factory resetting it. To flash a ROM do I need to have a working phone, or just a working bootloader ? And how do I know my bootloader is still working ?
From what I understood the bootloader is the menu you get in when pressing [Volume down] while turning your phone on. If so, I do have a working bootloader, and the last (but not least) thing I need to be working is a recovery.
So I tried to re-install unrevoked while running Linux, but Linux doesn't recognize the device. I'll give it another try while running windows since it recognizes the phone if it's in recovery mode.
In case it doesn't work, is there anything else I can try besides sending the phone back to HTC ?

The same thing happened to me several weeks ago while working on some settings and updates. I freaked out a lot, but this is what worked for me. It may work for you:
1. Remove the battery from the handset
2. Press & hold the power button on the handset for 10 seconds
3. Re-insert the battery
4. Press your volume down/up button (depending on what device you have) and while holding it, press the Power button.
I would suggest making a Nand Backup once you're in the HBOOT screen, but before you do it, chose the USB-PC Toggle option so that you can go into your phone via Windows Explorer and remove any flashable zip file your SD may have other than the ROM you want to flash.
what happend when you enter the recovery menu by selecting it with volum button and then power button to enter ? does it reboot into a green menu called clockworkmod ?
did you ever download a custom rom, such as for example defrost.zip and copy the file without unzipping it to your sd card, then select wipe all stuff you have and install that rom (zip) file. did you do that ?
i am also new to it and i have the same phone as you, but all works great for me, just needed to read many posts and tutorials here, then i did it and i am happy with it.

It enters a menu with 4 items :
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
CLEAR STORAGE
SIM LOCK
Then when I select RECOVERY it enters the HTC boot screen endless loop...
I tried using unrevoked but it didn't work, then I tried using a RUU but it didn't work either.
I'm kinda loosing hope here any other idea what I can try?
SOLVED
It's alright I managed to run a RUU while the phone was in the fastboot submenu of the HBOOT
well I got the same problem.
Is there a real solution to it?
entering in nandroid just wont work.
As I said running a RUU worked, even though it wiped all the data off the phone.
so i upgraded my thunderbolt to gingerbread "gingeritis" to be exact at the rom. i was unhappy with the kernel so i flashed a new one using clockwork recovery. it wouldn't get past the htc logo so i decided i can just recover, but when i hold the volume down it immediately takes into hboot where it starts an upgrade process. it won't let me scroll down to recovery it immediately starts the update process HELP! i hope to god i didn't brick it!
U need to delete the PG05IMG zip file off the root of ur sdcard. The one from when you rooted ur phone..
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
i forgot to get rid of it before i flashed the new kernel and now it won't let me get past hboot is there any way i can connect my phone to my computer in hboot?
Scroll down to recovery with volume button and select boot into recovery by pressing power button.. you should be able to power off your device from there granted you have clockworkmod installed as your recovery image.
OK SO I SOLVED IT! thanks to (MicaRyanSulc) for the pointer! BE AWARE! you cannot scroll up or down in that menu if you have PG05IMG zip file located in the ROOT of your sd card it automatically tries to update whatever is in that directory. therefore! i had to use my OG DROID to mount my SD card to my computer and rename the file. THIS NEEDS TO BE NOTED SOMEWHERE, because if not for my OG DROID or some way to modify my sd card it would have been bricked.
After seeing this issue quite a few times this past week I thought I make a tutorial on how to possibly fix this. If any of you see any errors or any way to improve this guide please let me know and ill include it and or adjust accordingly
Note-Make sure you have plenty of battery. You don’t want your phone dying in the middle of flashing a PD98IMG
If you are stuck in Hboot and have S-On or don't have access to an adapter go straight to Alternate method at the end
Rename to PD98IMG
Recovery: http://1drv.ms/1ke30zE
Inspire 4g pre-rooted Rom: http://db.tt/DCU3oW39 (only use if you have S-off)-
Inspire 4g stock Rom: http://1drv.ms/1ke3ohy
Telus DHD Rom: http://min.us/mTqXM8fTY
Reinstalling Recovery
For whatever reason you have wiped your custom recovery (My guess is you did a factory reset, thus erasing it). Personally I would try this first as one can go straight to a custom rom. If you don't want a custom rom feel free to go to the next section.
1) Back up anything you don’t want deleted from your sd card
2) Plug in sd card into computer through an adapter of some kind or another phone
3) Reformat the Sd Card to Fat32 – Do a full reformat not a quick
4) Once reformat is complete place the file downloaded from the first link on the sd card
5) Eject the sd card from computer and insert into phone
6) Power off phone by pulling the battery
7) Reinsert the battery
8) Boot into bootloader by pressing volume down and power button
9) It will scan for the file press volume up to accept update
10) It will ask you to reboot- you will still be stuck which is normal-
11) If everything is going to plan you now have access to recovery. So now we need to flash a rom. (Remember to delete the pd98 as it will prevent you from going into recovery)Skip down to the flashing rom section if you don’t know how to. If flashing the recovery didn't work continue to the next section
Reinstalling Recovery With No Card Reader
1) Download recovery above and place it in your fastboot directory
2) Boot into Hboot
3) Connect your phone to your PC
4) Select fastboot
5) Open up command prompt and CD to your Fastboot directory
6) Run the command fastboot erase cache
7) After the OK run fastboot oem rebootRUU
8) You'll see a new screen with HTC logo and a progress bar. here you need to run fastboot flash zip PD98IMG.zip
9) Once it completes (should say ok,finished, or complete) run fastboot reboot bootloader
10) Go into Recovery and flash a rom
Flashing a Stock Rom
Note- If you have S-Off i recommend flashing the prerooted version
1) If coming from previous section plug in sd card and delete old file then Jump to step 5
2) Back up anything you don’t want deleted from your sd card
3) Plug in sd card into computer through an adapter of some kind or another phone
4) Reformat the Sd Card to Fat32 – Do a full reformat not a quick
5) Once reformat is complete place the stock rom on the sd card
6) Eject the sd card from computer and insert into phone
7) Power off phone by pulling the battery
8) Reinsert the battery
9) Boot into bootloader by pressing volume down and power button
10) It will scan for the file press volume up to accept update
11) If everything is going to plan you now should have a fully working phone
12) At this point you are un-rooted so if you want re-root I recommend using the ace hack kit. (unless you used a pre-rooted stock rom then no need to use hack kit)
NOTE- IF EITHER FLASHING THE STOCK ROM OR RECOVERY PD98 FILES HAVE NOT WORKED REPEAT PROCEDURE WITH A DIFFERENT SD CARD
Flashing a Rom
1) So we were able to re-flash a custom recovery. Connect sd card to computer and delete the PD98img file
2) Download the rom of your choice and any super wipe zips if your rom needs it
3) Place file on sd card eject and reinsert onto phone
4) Boot in bootloader.
5) This time it will scan and not find any files. After it scans scroll down and select recovery.
6) You should now be in CWR. Do a full wipe (wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache-found in advanced I think
a. If recommended by your rom uses a super wipe zip. Simply choose install from sd card in CWR and select the super wipe zip
7) Now flash the rom by selecting install from sd card and choosing rom
Alternate-Flashing of RUU
This is for those that don’t have access to an adapter to place files with. This should work whether your S-on or S-Off
RUU’s: http://goo.im/ruu/ace
1) Download your RUU from above
2) Boot into Hboot
3) Connect your phone to your PC
4) Select fastboot
5) Run the RUU program

Thanks to JSL and driphter for the RUU.exe links
Thanks to Attn1 for the hack kit, all the devs for their awesome work, XDA members who are on here helping people out. I have learned so much just by reading
10/4/12- New method of flashing recovery included. no need for a card reader
8/29/12-New link added for RUU's
3/14/12-New links added to OP
2/12/12- Here are some mirrors for the PD98IMG files that were hosted on multiupload. Hopefully multiupload isnt down for good, so in the mean time i have them on depositfiles-Note i recommend the new links in the 1st post. the depositfiles mirrors are way too slow

First, confirm that you can boot into Hboot. If you can, then try Gene Pole's method, but you need a SD Card reader in order to put the zip file in the card.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16451214&postcount=1
Otherwise you can try to boot in recovery selecting it from Hboot menu and try to flash other rom.
Hope it helps....

I can not boot into Hboot...because when I tries flashing with RUU flasher..it gave me error and now I am stuck on hTc logo screen. I have to pull battery out to get out of that screen and when I plug in to computer of just turn on same htc screen with "triangle mark" in all four corners...I am so frustrated..Please hlep
Don't plug in phone. Pull the battery, reinsert and quickly press and hold the volume down and power button? What happened then?
Same htc screen with 4 triangles in corners.
Well don't panic.its only a phone I haven't seen an error 152, so I got look up what that means. You also mentioned that the you flashed the ruu several times? Did it ever complete or always errored out?
Edit- when you first tried the ruu were you ever able to enter hboot to begin with?

Don´t use the Flasher...use the cell straight foward....if you cant go into Hboot then try to boot in fastboot,....
plug to AC and keep pressing power...the led will turn red and green and then boot in fastboot. From there you might be able to use the hack kit to revert to stock.
If that is not working try to contact Gene Pole or Attn1 in the irc channel....he might help you better that I.

Hello all, have an HTC Inspire s-off h-b00t 0.85.0007. When the phone powers up, the bootloader is the only screen that comes up and is frozen. Cant use volume control or power button.
When you power it up is it booting straight into hboot? If so sounds like your volume button is stuck
Booting straight in to Hboot. He apparently did a factory reset, and when it rebooted it locked up. Cant get past step 12 of parsing the zip file for PD98IMG.zip on the root of the SD card (tried 2 2gbs, 1 1gb, and 1 8gb). 3 of the SD cards would only get to step 4 and freeze.
hboot 0.85.0007
s-off
Attached a couple of pictures, the first was from the rooted.zip and the second was from the non rooted.zip. I also attempted the recovery.zip (all named PD98IMG.zip)

Hard to understand how a hardware issue happens from applying a factory reset, not to say impossible... in my mind improbable, but what do I know. Thanks for the info.

the fact is that if you are rooted then a factory reset erases everything from your phone!! you get stuck if you don't flash other rom. If the volumen rocker is broken then you will boot always in hboot...don't actually know how the wipe happened but....did you have a PD98IMG.zip file in your sdcard??...that might explain it better...
So I accidentally installed a version of PG58IMG.zip when i should not have. Now my screen sticks at HTC. I cannot get to recovery mode because whenever I go into HBOOT it automatically trys loading PG58IMG.zip, if I select yes, simply installs it, reboots and hangs at HTC. If I select no, then all I can do is reboot the phone. I am trying to get anywhere that I can USB to the SDcard so that I can delete PG58IMG.zip. any help? thanks
so I'll follow up on my own post since i solved it, maybe itll help someone with similar in the future. i happen to have a spare microSD card, but im pretty sure you do not even need it. i removed my microSD, put in another one, booted into HBOOT, it didnt see the .zip, i then removed the microSD and put my original in, and went into recovery. works, but again im sure you can start into HBOOT with no microSD at all, then just insert it once it gets in.
I was stuck because the PG58IMG.zip start flashing and then the phone restart,
and it was kept looping on PG58IMG.zip error or HTC white screen....
I removed the microSD, reboot and before selecting Recovery i put the microSD in.
Then in recovy in, enable usb drive and delete PG58IMG.zip...
All you needed to do was delete the zip off your sd card. Then you would have been able to boot into the bootloader.
im not trying to sound like a ****, honestly, but if you would of searched your issue i guarantee you would have found unlimited post about this, and would have known after any IMG.zip flash always delete from sdcard, if you dont it just gonna keep booting into the IMG.zip and want to flash,
and not only that everytime you boot into bootloader it always scans for IMG.zip before you allowed to choose a option
big_smurf i could not delete it, i could not get anywhere into the phone that allowed me to usb to it so i could delete it.
ilostchild, after it installs it was not deleting. it would install, reboot phone, hang at HTC screen. if i go back into HBOOT, its there again, trying to install it again.

i know thats what im telling you it wont delete on its own, after you flash any IMG.zip file and you try go back into the bootloader it will want to flash it again, you have to flash the IMG.zip after power down, take out sdcard put in pc delete the IMG.zip file, the put in sdcard,
or use a spare sdcard to flash IMG.zips when done you can simply take it out and put your other normal sdcard in.
