So I've looked around and haven't been able to figure this one out.
Basically, I flashed the new ICBINB ROM last night, which looks pretty good so far, but I *hate* the keyboard. I actually prefer the old 3X4 keypad with T9.
Is there any way to get the old Samsung keyboard back?
You could try ripping it out if a stock ROM. I'm not sure what it would be called though.
I'm curious, why don't you like a qwerty keyboard? It makes texting a whole lot more efficient than the 3x4 keypads.
Yeah I am not sure how to pull the stock keyboard out of a stock rom. Anyone have ideas?
I find the 3x4 much faster and I make many more mistakes on the qwerty pad.

Ah, ok. Didn't know that. But back to my question -- is there any way for me to install the old keyboard so I can set up 3X4 keypad or am I screwed?
It's almost a dealbreaker for an otherwise great looking ROM.

I don't think Swype BETA has the 3x4 keypad. I think that's only available in the stock Swype. Try ripping it out of one of the Froyo ROMs or the older GB ROMs. Those should probably have the old Swype.

Here is the gingerbread keyboard - mostly compliments of AndroidBruce. I got another version working from my own SDK - but it is really slow compared to this one for some reason. MD5's on the so and apk are the same ????? oh well here is this one if anyone wants it.
Flash as an update.zip - this was only tested by me on stock dk28.
To enable go to settings > Locale and Text > check Android Keyboard.
I had to go up to select input method 3 times to get it it show up in the list...
Known issues:
Seems that user dictionary doesn't work...i'll look into it.
Perks:
it's multitouch, and best of all its not swype (I feel a "Swype is awesome" remark coming)
Differences from this version?
I flashed it. Its just the stock android keyboard with multi touch. I'll keep my swype
Thanks anyways!

They got the Auto correct working. The only thing not working is the vibrate on touch. You guys should collaborate.. Thanks for the hard work...
I give this 12 hours before I merge with the other thread...in fact I might just move both of them to the Apps section

I don't think this counts as an app or theme. Its a PORT that needs continuing DEVELOPMENT to function 100%.
Anyways, the other one I tried made me have to restore because its only for deodexed ROMs. I don't wanna install a rom. I like stock. Will it make me have to restore again?
Ps, I know you said its on stock, butdo you mean the .tar stock or acs rom (which is also considered stock deodexed I think...idk lol)

Thanks for porting the app. Hopefully, all features will be working soon.
I'd say that with this new keyboard, all of the custom keyboards are now largely obsolete. It also renders the hardware keyboard less useful than before, although it's still useful (I'm using the hardware keyboard right now) for longer messages.

I remember awhile back that there was a gingerbread keyboard that is a little bit bigger than the stock keyboard floating around in forums. Anyone here download it and have it? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Is it possible to bring the Optimus keyboard with all the gestures and smiles etc to the G2x? Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Don't thank me yet, I went ahead and installed it myself and haven't gotten gestures to work.
Lol yeah gestures arent working but i love this keybord its just nice to use im liking it better thrn swype
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
what are gestures??? associated with the keyboard, and regular lg keyboard will still work rite? if i download it to cm7
Yes it works great. Gestures are like tapping the phone on its side to move the cursor left and right thats what im meaning by it, at least in this case. Hope this helped some.

Does user dictionary work on this version? Like adding your own words into the dictionary
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
No it does not if you try to enter it into the user dictionary, but it does if you double click the word in the prediction box. So i hope this helps.

can you confirm that your method works? When I click the word in the prediction box, it just inserts the word into the word into the textfield. I can't double click it.
Oh yes. Thanks for this. The cm7 keyboard suked.

Hey guys, I really need to know how to get the on-screen keyboard to turn landscape, but all it does is wait for me to slide it open, any way to make it give me a landscape? I like to text in class, I hate portrait, the phone is hard to hide when it is open, and our physical keyboard is REALLY loud in a quiet room.
HTC_IME_MOD keyboards work, atleast everyone i have used works.
what i would really like is landscape swype.
Nah I just bought SwiftKey x on my phone and I was hoping there was a way I could use its awesomeness in landscape.

Hey everyone. I don't like tw 4.5 cause I think its buggy. The launcher in infinity is good but it isn't just a simple apk copy and paste. Do you.know of any other tw4 launchers compatable with the charge

I've asked this before myself and from what I've been told there is no way to just add TW4 to any ROM. I think it needs to be cooked into a ROM and a whole bunch of stuff needs to be tweaked to get it to work properly. Obviously IMNUTS would be able to answer this way better than me.
Other than infinity, I know the old version of eclipse runs TW4, but its way outdated.
Yeah that's what imnuts said. He said he cooked his is. It would be nice if someone ported just the launcher without the stuff of tw 4.5

Go launcher themes change how stuff looks, not how the launcher functions.
