Iphone 4S vs the Galaxy S2 - General Questions and Answers

So here it is - the competitor for the Galaxy S2.
Worthy competitor? Not yet. Maybe Siri is as good as they demoed, but rest of the specs still just barely match the S2!
S2 still rocks! And looks like it will continue to......

not impressed with iphony4s
http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/04/iphone-4s-vs-iphone-4-the-tale-of-the-tape/

yeA!
S2 rocks!
But Siri indeed looks like an amazing feature
I think today it was majorly about iOS5 rather than the new iPhone

Hardware-s2
Software-iPhone
Clear winners.

I said no LTE and I was right and now every one knows the true from not true.

What do you think is the Best Android phone?

Hello all, I'm starting this to get opinions of what people think is the best android phone and the reasons they think it's the best. I'm looking to get a new phone and would like other peoples input on what phone is best, since there are a lot of options available. I know everything is an opinion when it comes to a phone. Just say what you think the biggest pros are and the biggest cons are. Admin, If I started this thread in the wrong place apologize!
I've had 3 android phones, all with t mobile. The G1, nexus one and the samsung galaxy s(vibrant). I still have all of them!
Now in my opinion the nexus one has been the best for installing modified ROM'S, With the least amount of issues and ease of unlocking with all hardware working. The downside is the screen size and the flipping power button keeps breaking!
Now my second option is the samsung galaxy s. I like the dimensions of the phone and the screen size is awesome. But with modified kernels and a crappy GPS antenna you still have GPS issues.
So come one come all, leave your input let's see what phone you think is the best on the market today!

specially the SGS2 HD version
The Galaxy Nexus.
HTC Wildfire S
I was also thinking on the same lines... tho I think people should be careful as to what their suggesting... I don't think this thread is based on "what phone do you own, hence think is the best "... because I'm sure as **** the Wildfire S is by far not even close to the best android... maybe the best cheap android phone... but definately not the best...
If you think a phone is the best... then why do you think so... you need to have a valid reason...
As far as I'm concerned I want to change phones as well... at the moment the S2 seems to be at the top of the hill... I was sure I would get the galaxy nexus but after seeing the utterly disappointing specs... a crappy camera, no expandable memory, and a TI processor rather than a exenos is just a major letdown...
Tho in the upcoming phones seems the Droid Razr is supposed to be a beast and the S2 HD seems to be awesome... but iit looks like will need to wait a while for them... not to.mention the s2 HD will only be released in Korea...??? :s
Its actually quite strange phones are getting bigger and bigger... they just wont seem to fit in pockets soon... I thought a 4 inch screen is perfect... tho 4.2 is really pushing it... but 4.6... I'm not really into wearing clothes twice my size to be able to fit my damn phone in my pocket
What does anyone suggest based on facts... wait for the nexus... or the S2 HD... or just go for the S2...

I've favored HTC phones. I've personally owned the Droid Inc, Inc2, and the moto Droid. I've had my hands on quite a few different ones. I think the Inc Is my favorite . Samsung has good phones, but I like the HTC's better.
XDA App. DInc 2 PoWeReD
Best android phone ever? As an early adopter I'd say the g1, that thing was supported for a looooong time given the average lifespan of android phones, the form factor, while thick, is still one of the coolest to date with android, and I believe you could get it all the way to gingerbread despite being a severely dated device. Next to the HD2 it is my favorite tinkering phone. The best right now, likely the gs2, I don't have much love for the current devices but the hardware on the razr is looking pretty sexy. I have a thing for thin phones. That's why my next device will be a Nokia 800 but that's a story for another thread.
Tl;dr? G1, GS2, razr droid.
For someone like you just get a Galaxy S ii and call it a day.

I think Galaxy S II, yup! Me too, samsung has good phones, but I like the HTC's better.

I think the OP was leaning more towards phones that are available now. Obviously, the way technology and competition works, the best phone will be the one not released yet...
Samsung Galaxy S II
Incredible 2
I know it is only single core phone and doesn't have 4G, but it is a great phone.

Galaxy Nexus easy.... duh.... haha
Please thank me if I helped.
well it depends upon what specs you want to have(and brag about).
IMO, there's no such thing as 'best Android phone' because having the 'best' phone is always subjective.
If you want the highest specs on a phone, you can look at the flagship phones.
If you want to be unique, choose a less well-known brand.
If you want to customise, there's plenty.
If you want to have a good-looking UI, SE arc or ray would do
mine.

Good Phone to Upgrade to?

hey all, i currently have an incredible S, but my upgrade sometime next year. im looking at SGS2s because the phones seem to be the best on the market at the moment. BUT with quad core technology around the corner, i might just wait for a highly possible SGS3. i really like htc, but the s2s seem to kill anything that comes near it. discuss below...

Get what works for you now. Waiting for something better to come out will just make you wait forever because something better is always around the corner
If futureproofing is your main concern, Galaxy Nexus is the winner
BTW I have a SGS2 and love it
sEnT fRoM mY ExYnOs PoWeReD MoNsTeR
The most powerful phone right now is the Galaxy S II yet if you want to future proof you should go Nexus.
And remember the downfall of everyone "There's always something better ... if a wait a little while"
No phone is or will be future proof. There is no money in it and in the end that is what the OEM are most worried about
I wanna Samsung Galaxy Note with ICS
Think about HTC Desire
Right now the best choice for me would be an Galaxy Nexus. But only if the lacking Memory Card slot don´t bothers you to much.
The great advantage of this phone is the fast supply with new android updates.
Apple does a pretty good job future proofing their iPhone.
Microsoft isn't doing too shabby.
Android, not so much

Yeah apple does OK as long as your only one model back. My girl has the 3gs and it lags like hell on the new updates after 4. And all apple say is to get an updated model lol

I have a Sensation myself, it's like the Galaxy S II performance wise(ly) and has a nice design.
I don't quite like the Samsung device design, but that's personnal

And the hardware on all WP7 devices are 1-2 years old.
I really love my Samsung Focus, it's the perfect size I think.
I love my GSII but CES is just next week, so I would suggest waiting for it. I think the Arc HD will be announced there and it seems to be awesome. But if you are buying a phone right now get the GS2.
Sent from my Galaxy SII using XDA App
You should buy Galaxy s2 or if you can wait for 7-8 months then buy galaxy s3 which i guess will be released at that time.
I would recommend the Sony Xperia S.
Definetly worth waiting for
I got the new Galaxy Nexus and hated it. Just swapped it out for the HTC Rezound. LOVE it. Awesome phone. And its getting ICS officially.

[q] what's better galaxy s2 or iphone 4s

what do you prefer the galaxy s2 or iphone 4s?
It's all preference I just don't like the feel of an iPhone to small and the glass breaks to easy, and ios can't really modify it to make it ur own.

Had iphone 4 over a year.....loved it jailbroke it, had all types of things going on...emulators, remote control, remote access, you name it I did it...I sold it after discovering iphone 5 was not being relased in October and decided to try Android.
The HTC Sensation was a great tablet but horrible phone...I knew Droid had great potential but I needed a better phone to bring out that experience
Enter the T989....
Coming from iphone 4, I had high standards. The Galaxy S2 not only performed as well if not better on the computer side, its actually turned out to be a better telephone.
Sound quality, bluetooth connectivity, ear speaker volume...speakerphone volume
It soars!
Screen quality...is actually very good. Last but not least Pentaband phone....research what that means
I can go on and on let's just say that I'm wirelessly tethering my laptop from my GS2 at 4G speed and enjoying every minute of it
Get this phone if you haven't already...you won't be dissapointed. It delivers every benefit you're looking for in spades
Thought about buying an iPad 2. Couldn't pull the trigger because of the thought of all I would be losing out on. Got a 10.1 Tab instead. Still in awe of it. So much so I got a GS2 yesterday. As a Sensation4G owner I have to say these phones aren't in the same league. Aside from a horrible firmware upgrade experience this phone is awesome. The i* products have nothing on these. The arguments about build quality aren't valid imo. Nothing about either of these devices feels cheap. Now I know why Apple is trying to stop Samsung from selling these. I'm probably going to buy a Samsung tv in a few weeks too.

i have to say that the opinions in this thread is actually very good. They're not biased and bashing iphones like how most of these turns out.
I would like to add that most people stayed with iphone over android because of battery life, but the gs2 battery life is actually really good. With the correct settings and combination of rom and kernel, the phone will outlast an iphone 4s.
another! 4g>>>>>3g
what most people miss about the iphone when going to the gs2 is the retina display. but come on... its a freaken huge screen lol, connect your gs2 to your tv and laugh at all the iphone users! muahahha jk.. not really.
well if your on tmobile, and using iphone u are sacrifycing your 4g speeds. iphone is a great phone. its just the screen is too small. i would use iphone, but without 4g and using edge, hell no lol
by functionality, Android, and that means SGS2 is better
a ton of people i work with have switched from various iphones (including the 4s) to the sgs2 and never looked back...

Why the sad face? On that page S2 clearly has better features although for some reason they seem to misunderstand ram as they say the iphone has more ram for playing games when it doesn't it only has more storage space.

totally agreed
i have an android phone (my first) and im enjoying it so much but i like iphone too but considering that iphone is so expensive, the glass breaks too easily and when im searching i notice that the android community its getting bigger and bigger every day so if you need something on android you have a big community to get help
but like funziebear said its all preference
Galaxy S2, mainly because it's android and you are note bound by the limits of iOS, but also because (I think) the look and feel of the phone are just better.
You should also consider the Galaxy Nexus by the way, it's imo the best phone on the market right now.
Depends on what you want
I do think that Apple products are a little easier to use for the average (non geek) person, I suspect they are designed that way. And there is something to be said for that, but Android is more powerful and more flexible. I can't think of anything the Iphone can do that the S2 can't do equally well or better, at least with the appropriate apps.
Yeah I dont bash on iPhone that's what started my whole "smartphone" experience, I just don't care for it anymore haha I'll still work on them and jailbreak for friends so I'm still western of all it's updates and features I don't care to go back

Thank you all for your help.. and I've gotten the Galaxy S2 yesterday and I really do like it I've had a lot of android phones on att and Tmobile. I had the iPhone 4 twice but not the 4S. Its just that android sometimes slow down or freeze but the iPhone 4 barley freezes or slows down. But I have the galaxy s2 and I'm thinking if I should trade it for a iPhone 4S

Everything looks gud on paper! But one significant thing I noticed is Samsung seems to be following the route of Iphone, with all high end devices with the same looks & almost same architecture! All the Galaxy S devices look same! IMO

There is nothing much to say about hardware. Also It's coming with many software improvments. Still I have to say that I don't like it's design. Sammy is too far away from being showy. Whether like it or not, HTC's and Sony's products are quite succesful on that especially for UI. I was hoping some delicous improvments on Touchwiz
personally i am not interested in design. I am always interested in max capacity of a perticular device. If ur device has good fancy design but cant do much development with given specs then whats the use of that fancy design...??
Galaxy s3 has super duper specs from development point of view & it will set new milestone & it has super bright future in upcoming days. Just stay tuned guys
I totally agree with you vishal. However It's hard to understand a company like Samsung doesn't show much attention to appearance as It should be. And we're talking about a flagship device here. It's quite disturbing and I think that's why Apple sells that much. It's just showy and doing It's job. Nothing more, nothing less. Most of the users doesn't interest the rest.

Is it worth getting the new Galaxy 3?

I have the Vibrant, I'm using an ICS ROM. 4.0.4.
I don't use my phone for a lot of web browsing, more or less social things and games. I'm sort of sore on flashing new ROM's though I LOVE exploring them all!
For people already using a Galaxy, what would be your pro's and con's?
I've looked into the phone and it sounds amazing, dual-core snapdragon, stock 4.0.4, it looks to be as big as the Galaxy s II and a nice AMOLED screen.
Has anyone used one of these guys yet? How do you like it? Does it live up to your expectations?
There are some fantastic new features. A colleague tried one for an hour last weekend and his questions to me was 'why can't we have these at work' we currently have S2's
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
I really like the whole "Sharing" thing between Galaxy III's.
Did your work pay for the S2's? That's very nice of them!
I wasn't impressed enough (compared to my Vibrant.) to spend the extra money upgrading an S2, but the SIII really has my attention.
I'm contemplating it very hard. Through my carrier I think it's going to be $280 before extra fee's though..that's pricey especially since the first I paid $250 and received a $50 MIR. :/
Coming from a Vibrant..definitely should upgrade. If you had an S2 or something comparable, it wouldn't be worth it unless you could get a really good deal.
Thank you lowandbehold. I feel a tad better about my wants. I was hoping it wasn't just because it was new. The hardware upgrades them self already make my giddy/
Although the Galaxy III is a killer in terms of performance and software features, which make it highly desirable especially for people who have an old smartphone, you should also take the upcoming iPhone 5 into consideration.
Another phone worth checking out is the HTC one X. Although not superior in performance compared to the GIII, it has a lot of notable features and shoots photo's fast due to it's fast camera processor.

Though the camera supports 1080P at 30FPS on the Samsung Galaxy S3 while the HTC One X doesn't. I would say get the Galaxy S3, the iPhone screen just seems tiny to me after having the Galaxy S3 since launch.
The iPhone 5 might be worth waiting out for if you have the patience to wait. Apparently Foxconn's CEO said the next iPhone "will put Samsung’s Galaxy III to shame."

Lol, doubt it
Thank you for your suggestion, however I am not an iPhone person and I don't believe T-Mobile will be getting the iPhone5. Or at least there's no official word on it. Just hopeful reports of people stating that 'It could happen! Maybe..'
I just love the android's platform and it's lack of boundaries. I've also heard rumor of some Android's having a "Flash Counter" that count the number of times you've actually flashed the phone, and because of it the warranty won't be active. (Like the Galaxy Note supposedly has one.) I could also be wrong since I haven't looked into this. On that note, I don't believe they'll be implementing this feature into the SnapDragon CPU's. However correct me if I'm wrong! I'm very much a phone newbie.
My friend owns a One X while another has the new Razr Maxx.
Since they aren't brand new I'm curious as to switching to those guys..it would be cheaper however have the same quality as the S3?
I've been with Samsung for 8 years now and they haven't let me down.
So loyalty stays with Samsung for their phones.
