Well, we can only hope!
I'll be working on finding out!

thanks! i would post the link but i'm not allowed to yet.

Well they "started" in August. And had a list of devices then. The problem with advertising like this is the word "starting"

deleted post

I think this is what you are talking about...
http://www.mobilebloom.com/samsung-...latest-gingerbread-news-reduced-price/225093/
Funny though, that the site says it will be GB 2.3.4 when all the leaks we've gotten recently are for 2.3.5 hhmmmmm!!!

All hail mighty gingerbread!

I'll believe it when I see it.

yea, since it says 2.3.4 im not sure how true the article is. also i cant really find any announcement from at&t about it

No credible sources anywhere in the article.
AT&T's last press release stated that they would roll out Gingerbread updates to all Android devices released in 2011, plus to the Captivate, "starting in" July. Which means that only one device needed to receive an update in July for the press release to be true. (I Think that was the Atrix?)
And as others said, all of the leaks have been 2.3.5.

I am sure god knows when it will be coming since even AT&T does not know what the hell they are doing sitting on it till now

I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=37.403408,-121.885609

My take on it is they are in the process of releasing it but are working to correct some of the glaring issues we see now using the Rodgers rom. I don't think they want to release something that is just going to Bork up everyone's phones so they will wait until it is right as well they should. I would rather wait till it is perfect then to have them release something that isn't ready for primetime. Then the devs will have a good canvas to work from. Your mileage may vary.

Froyo rolling out across UK

According to SamsungMobileUK - Froyo is official now (again?). Everyone will have it by End of Month. Is that USA too?
From twitter:
https://twitter.com/#!/samsungukmobile/status/29684769499
Froyo starts rolling out today; everyone will have it by the end of Nov. To prepare, get the latest version of Kies http://bit.ly/cfjJDa
I think we should see it by Christmas. That way when we get it earlier, it will be that much more exciting!
Samsung has been quick to point out that when SamsungUK says 'everyone', they mean 'everyone in Europe'. They have consistently said 'By the end of the year' for us Yank's.

yes, but they have not really qualified when that really is - it could also be in November. One rumor site claims all of us by the 11th of November.
For a multinational company, they have terrible communication skills. We are left to infer what they mean. But you are correct - previous communication has been region specific.
I have already installed the Froyo version available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797282
After Froyo is released officially in the US for AT&T, does anyone knows if there would be a way to upgrade to the official version?
* Update: Nevermind my question... there is a thread about this here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=821480
According to this:
https://twitter.com/samsungukmobile/status/535769122865153
They say that there have been some fixes to the GPS in Froyo. Let's hope so because I am tired of this unreliable GPS which I can't really use.

what i dont get is why is gingerbread coming out like in a week or 2 and we are getting 2.2? shouldnt they have just used this past month or 2 to make gingerbread work instead? Its obviously been available for sometime if its being released.

Especially when you consider that Samsung had access to the Gingerbread source for the Nexus S (the first Gingerbread phone to come out). At this point I am just hoping we get Froyo soon. If we are lucky, the Nexus S will help make an official update to Gingerbread come sooner; or if not, if the hardware is similar enough we may get unofficial gingerbread updates soon after the Nexus S sources become available.

So supposedly we aren't getting the official 2.2 update this year.

Just read this article:
http://androidandme.com/2010/11/pho...-s-phones-will-not-see-android-2-2-till-2011/
The Captivate is seriously the best phone I have ever owned and I purchased it the first day it became available. Now I think I should have waited a few months before shelling out $499.99. But I am getting really disappointed with Samsung and just want to sell it soon. If this is JUST 2.2, imagine Gingerbread or Honeycomb? I know that I don't have to wait for the official releases, as I'm running DG's 9.1.3 ROM, but just this lack of support from Samsung AGAIN is annoying. On top of the lack of timely software support we still have the GPS issue. I did almost all of the tricks in these forums and the GPS works when it wants to. I have to have it work all the time. I'm thinking of when these new dual-core phones come out in the coming months of just selling my beloved Captivate and getting something else that's not made by Samsung-- as the only thing I will truly miss will be the screen. At this point Samsung might as well just skip 2.2 and go straight to 2.3 but we know they won't do that. Hopefully the Nexus S turns out to have fewer issues. /rant
Who is the "we" you are referring too? I guess you are a canadian fascinate owner as that is the only model that was stated for a 2011 update to 2.2.
Seriously, you are speculating on an article that is all speculation itself and creating FUD for others.
Just out of curiosity, what froyo features are you waiting for that you want so badly?

Go to Twitter.com/GalaxySSupport and look at how many times they specifically say the Captivate will have Froyo by the end of the year.
From what I understand, it's ATT, not Samsung causing any delay. In any event, I'm fine with 2.1...I don't see the huge features brought by 2.2 anyway
At this point we may as well just wait for someone to cook some gingerbread.
Froyo
According to Samsung Galaxy S Support, we should have 2.2 by the end of this year.
My friend that works for AT&T says that's supposedly they are supposed to update on November 26th but like everyone else I hear dates alot and have stopped holding my breath... I also work at AT&T and i've heard no such date as to when the official 2.2 roll out is going to happen.
yeah if you here a date it is unofficial and subject to change at any moment, usually it will get delayed not pushed up. the att reps i have talked to are kept in the dark until the release day in most cases. the truth is that att is quite lazy.
back in september when we all thought a froyo release was coming soon i spoke to a samsung engineer who quoted "we are working on the froyo update around the clock" and "the wait should not be unusually long" well the lanuage hes used of "working around the clock" put my expectations around november. now who knows.

Bluetooth voice dialing. Bluetooth sound quality is bad on i9000 kernels used on the captivate.

Even when the official 2.2 update comes out, I honestly don't see myself, or a lot of the xda community switching over to it. With DG doing great work on the Cog builds and a lot of people following in his footsteps to provide us new roms, the official Samsung and ATT approved updates will always be just mediocre at best.

Zio Update offical thread 2.2 Coming 2/28

Update coming 2/28. Customers will have to go into a store to receive the update. Also, Cricket will be re-releasing the Zio with 2.2 pre-installed.
As of tonight, the Zio is still scheduled for a Febuary release of 2.2. As I've said before, 2.1 is going to be skipped it seems.
Other news:
Cricket will be getting the LG Optimus, as well as an android tablet (samsung I believe) soon.
Updated info will be given to you guys as soon as I get it.
Edit: see below for screens.
I've been following your info from the thread and the info from the cricket facebook page and it seems pretty consistent but we usually hear it from you first so I'm pretty confident in what you have been saying. Keep us updated. I realized the response about when we will be getting our update changed from mid February to just "soon". Is this because we may be getting the update sooner than mid Feb?
Sent from my Zio using XDA App
Looking forward to some kind of update in the near future hopefully.

I have some cool news coming for you guys hopefully tomorrow. It's an email confirming the 2.2 update
Can't wait.
Sent from my Zio using XDA App
Here you go, screenshots of the email confirming 2.2.
Cheers.
Looks pretty official. One thing that's on my mind, it says the zio will be Available to buy with froyo already on it in late Feb early March. What it says about the update is that it will be available " very soon". Does that sound right? So we may be able to update before then. (I had a dream last night that my phone updated itself to 2.2. It was awesome)
Sent from my Zio using XDA App
On the cricket facebook page there is a post with a link to an article about an email that a customer received supposedly stating the update will be available on Feb first. But the article also said that we will be getting 2.1 and not froyo which we all know is not true so in my mind it does lack credibility.

Here is what is going on from my understanding. We are going to stop selling the Zio with 1.6, and I guess re-release it with the 2.2 in a month or so. Exsisting owers WILL still get the update, although I haven't been able to confirm if it is OTA or not.

You know how those company facebook pages are, they aren't really company employees, just hired "bloggers" if you will. I never trust what I read from those things.
I understand that we will get the update but the question is when. I'm hoping by early to mid Feb. Do you know when it will be or can you get a estimated date. I'm going nuts checking on it all the time. The only information we have is that it will be available " very soon" or " in the very near future". That makes me feel like it can be any day now. Are they going to inform you in advance right when its released?
Sent from my Zio using XDA App
Trust me, you'll know the date when I find out. As of now, I don't have one for you
From my experience on how cricket does things, I would guess the update will be available after we start selling the new Zio with 2.2.
Haven't heard anything new, guy?

Word on the street is that we will be getting the update on the fifteenth. Any info on that?
Sent from my Zio using XDA App
if it happens
you will know when the update will happen you will get a text explaining the update process. so there is really no reason to keep checking. I have ended my search on the upgrade since personally i feel its never going to happen.
If you believe its not gonna happen you dont read much do ya?

I'm on a Zio by Cricket as well. Today is the 22nd of Feb. I called Cricket support this morning and the person on the phone just told me 2 min. ago that the upgrade has not been released to the costomers yet. They said when it gets released they are going to notify me/you I guess on your phone that there is an upgrade for the phone and I guess what is needed to get the phone upgraded. The person I spoke to stated that they have no idea when it will be released and that they were still working on the upgrade and phone. He changed his tune when I explained to him that in a forum I am registered with a person explained that he/she let us know he spoke to 1 of the corp. reps in person, and the guy stated it was already tested on the phone and that Cricket already got the Ok to let the costomers upgrade that it will be out between the 22nd, (today) - 28th (next week). Once I told him that he just studdered and stated that he wasn't sure that they were never notified of this so on and so on.
Sorry if this reply conflics with any of the posts here.

ATT definitely needs to get on the bandwagon with the Infuse, my Atrix got Gingerbread pretty quick. Not sure what the big deal is.
I hate to say it guys but get used to it. ATT is terrible with updates. Each phone may get one major update and thats about it. Any of you that have been in the smartphone world for a while will know this. Hell sometimes ATT wont push any updates for a phone at all.
I mean think about it. A phone is termed EOL after 4 months of ATT releasing it.

Samsung or ATT?
We don't know who is holding up the update, do we? It could be either Samsung or ATT. It's so frustrating that Ice Cream Sandwich is supposed to be released within the next few months and Infuse owners don't even have Gingerbread yet.
its the captivate all over again, over emphasis on updates(2.2 works fine for me), and a carrier that doesn't care about updates. why make the infuse their flagship and not push samsung to update it? i mean motorola got the atrix updated and att doesnt push that phone as hard, htc also got the inspire updated, att doesnt give a dan about that phone. but i really think it is samsung who wants to push updates only after a new device is released (sgs2!) and only because they want the new device to look beter the the "old" one
Bottom line here is simple: don't ever buy hardware in anticipation of future software releases (with the exception of a Nexus device). Once the device is sold the manufacturer really has no obligations to ever have anything to do with it again except for warranty services.

Doesn't matter when really a month two months its the fact that phone released at the same time as ours have seen nice updates and dome even two updates since launch. Its the fact that this was a eye opener for ATT you know a "look at me " phone that's going to need a time machine to catch up.

All I see is too many phones coming, that the ave user will miss out on, because they are stuck on a 2 year contract, lol not everyone can afford to blow 300 plus every few months on the something new,
Truth be told I have an atrix ( which I love, great little workhorse ) and a infuse coming monday, Also have a droid incredible, and a inspire, and a few others laying around,
But the funny thing they all do the same thing, just some slightly faster than the other, etc.. right now even the droid incredible/nexus 1 still is plenty fast for gingerbread... and does everything those new dual core beasts can do.. for me its gonna boil down to design and the screen, much like when i used to shop for a pc/laptop.. <----hardly use those anymore, too. my 2 year old asus still runs like a champ. guess my point,. is choose what you like. dont get caught up in specs and hype. ..

Cause it does got blazing specs.Yeah there is gs3 out and all the htc Ones but they just dont seem "quality" products to me. only other thing im considering is the galaxy nexus. I think if ics came out the g2x should be able to last another year or two until google brings out something completely new like key lime pie or kettle corn. If ics does come out then ima wait till the next gen nexus with next gen android is out
Possibly good news from our good friend Paul O'Brien. He says it's definite and even "imminent" for the 2X.
