First REAL Nexus Prime Leak - General Topics

"What you are seeing here is the first live photo of the Nexus Prime (or part of it), which comes to confirm several important specs of the upcoming device. First, we've got the HD resolution of the Super AMOLED confirmed - that's 720p on a screen just 4.3" in diagonal. As you can see from the image itself this gives you a pixel density of over 320 dpi, which is certainly more than anyone could need."

Did you take notice of the onscreen buttons? This is definitely the real deal.
GSMArena made the mistake of mixing DPI with PPI, so it's quite possible that the screen is in fact going to be 4.65" just like the SGS 2 HD. The 96 missing pixels are for the onscreen buttons and thus 1280x720 on 4.65 = ppi of 316.

Yup, can't believe Samsung are going with a large bezel, when the rumors suggest that the iPhone 5 is going to have almost none.

Ah man, you beat me to it.
I was just about to post it here.

Is in pure Nexus style

I was expecting something that would be totally black and sleek when the screen is off. ><

Probably it will end up acting as mirror, where you'll see people looking into their phones to comb their hair, apply make up etc.

Interesting...looks nice. Shame about the large bezel but it does look like the real deal.
Can't wait to see the specs. Its tempting for sure but im gonna wait for nexus s build of ICS before i commit to another handset. My contract still got 12 months to go

Sorry but the virtual home, back, search, and menu buttons is one of the features Ice Cream Sandwich is making standard in the Android OS. This is probably an effort to cut out on the pesky problem of hardware buttons wearing out as so many people complain about the hard or soft keys on their device stop working. Not to mention the money and time device manufactures can save from not having to put these buttons on a device.

there's an advantage to a hardware button, even if it's a capacitative one
as it can end task when the Apps hung
if it's a soft button, then you are SOL when an App hung, and it hogs the entire screen as it usually does

G2x vs EVO vs Nexus S screen pics

I happen to have these 3 amazing devices in my possession, and so I feel obligated to snap some comparison photos. Most interestingly is the last few demonstrating the bleeding LCD issue. This is the best I could do without a tripod. Order left to right: EVO, G2x, Nexus S.

G2x and Nexus Home:

Youtube G2x and Nexus S:
Market (for greens):
And now the moment, all phones showing black image:
Angle view showing bad LCD bleed:
So here's my conclusion. G2x has most natural colors, the OLED on the Nexus just seems artificially vivid, but really there's not much difference until you hit the blacks. G2x has same LCD bleed as EVO, but 1000x better colors. So there you go, if you're used to OLED I can see why you're disappointed, but if you've been on an EVO LCD, the G2x is quite a treat. You can go wrong with any of these phones.
Wow. Thanks

I actually thought the screen was pretty nice....not as rich as the super amoled screens but definitely way better than The other LCD screens out there like the ones on evo
Sent from my t959_honeybee using XDA app
Personally I think the G2X looks better in all cases. Sure there is some bleed on the complete black, but to be honest, I am probably not the only one that uses their phone in normal lighting, every issue I have seen posted regarding bleed problems are in a pitch black room. Hardly a situation that I would even come close to on a daily basis.
I think the G2X is great as is across the board. And I am coming from a Fascinate (Galaxy S phone).
Well done Ravin! Thanks for that comparison.
wierd
in the pics the 2 screens look on while the third is black. i dotn see it like that maybe its just the way the camera pics up the bleed. But i think this is back to the old plama lcd arguments. my blacks on lcd and phone are black enough for me maybe i have my mind convinced they are black

Well you're right, OLED is off when it's displaying black, that's why it has a massive contrast ratio. The camera isn't lying in those pics.
I have used both the NS and the G2X and I prefer the G2X over the NS. I sold my used NS the day I bought the new G2X and I am not looking back.
I haven't had any of the balcklight bleeding issues everyone is talking about and the speed of the phone is superior to that of the NS. The phone feels more solid in my hand then the NS did, the build quality to me is allot better then the plastic NS.
I haven't rooted mine yet, I will wait until a stable release of CM7 comes out and then I will take the plunge. I think once a nice stable ROM is released and the recovery flashing issue are resolved, allot of folks will make the switch.
Do you know what I take away from this? Seeing that 3 different high profile Android devices, all have the same 4 buttons, but they're all in a different order. Why can't someone say 'lets standardize on a single order for these buttons'?

New leaked pics of Nexus Prime

Here is a possible picture of Nexus Prime and his 1,280x72 display screen resolution:
http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-19736_7-20115325-251/might-this-be-the-nexus-prime/
That's 320dpi on 4.5" screen vs Apple's 326dpi on a 3.7" screen. I'll take that in the Super AMOLED plus please.
They better have a huge battery to last! Notice the touch on-screen buttons
My prediction is that the size of the phone will be just about the same as Nexus s but the extra space for buttons and probably little more on top makes the extra .5" of screen.
And when you think about it, it makes total sense because for movie watching, you can just get those buttons out of the way and have a bigger screen.
I wish it's not only released under Verizon as rumor said so.. it would be great if it is a GSM/CDMA compatible device

That would be an asinine move figuring iPhone is on the big 3 now. And I don't know where you read that. (I didn't read the cnet article there so if it was there...)
I like that leak better than the last that everyone believes. And that's just some words with Honeycomb buttons.
Of course this could just be the Honeycomb launcher theme with a background image of what appears to be info about the phone.

I really hope your prediction comes true about the size of the new Nexus because if it's not, I won't be buying a phone that's over 4,3 and if i can't upgrade to a Nexus phone than i might just test uncharted water...

Super amoled which we guessed etc 4.7" screen it says
I agree with you. Lets wait for HK tonight and confirm all this
one thing that i find strange is
Why are the 3 dot connectors on the same side as the power button? if u have it docked on the side how would u turn it on?
Seems abit silly which could indicate fake but its hard to call something real when its unreleased
But "what if" that is not a connector?
any theorys on what else 3 dots could do? 3 dots is pretty common for dock connectors
what if they are on both sides?
like ,for fingers, not to "slide" from hand ?

That doesn't make any sense at all. (No offense, just being brutally honest.)
The dock pin connectors belong on the other side but otherwise this is pretty much spot on.

The official teaser video showed the pins on the same side as the power button. The only thing I see that makes me doubt it is the lack of curvature on the screen.
i like it and think thats what its going to look like. we will see today and i work at a cell phone store and the nexus is in my cellbrite for like two weeks already and we get promo posters and cards and t shirts all the time before phones come out so why not and its china we all know the chinnese got the inside info on everything

What concerns me is the bottom bezel. It looks like there's a lot of black after the on-screen buttons on the bottom. Seems like a lot of wasted real-estate. In the leaked videos, it's even more apparent: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Py9TfZGie48
I think the phone is too long... =T

Colors washed?

I got my HOX yesterday to substitute my galaxy note. Loving it so far. However, the screen seems to have the colors washed away. I realize that I moved from an amoled display to a LCD, but I just want to make sure this is to be expected and I don't have a faulty unit.
This is mostly noticeable on the xda app, where the colors on the threads page seem to be very washed out compared to my galaxy note.
See third post for pictures of the screen.

I think you would need to take a picture to actually show the screen issues you are talking about. With a pic, it may still be hard to see it. Screenshots will not show any defects with the screen hardware.
:banghead:
You're right, I will upload a pic later today.
Thanks

AMOLED screens are going to be a bit cold (blueish) so when comparing a LCD screen to an AMOLED screen, the LCD screen will appear to be warmer (yellow). But now compare it to another LCD screen from another phone and see what color it looks like then.
To be honest, I prefer the color of my LCD2 screen to my Galaxy S II SAMOLED+ screen.
Thanks for the info, will compare it to another LCD screen to get some perspective.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
I think the colors are just fine. But to be sure you can take it to local at & t store and do some comparison with the display units that they have out there.
Sent from my HTC One X on Leedroid's ROM v5.0.0.
I had the Note for about 3 1/2 weeks, went back to my iPhone 4 for about 3 1/2 weeks, and then to the One X last week. I think the colors are just more accurate on the One X than what was on the Note. You're One X looks fine to me. I know you realize that the Amoled screens are all over the place with color accuracy and can really skew ones idea of what colors are supposed to look like. The colors are super oversaturated, often times the wrong hue, and everything has a blue cast to it.
If it's any comfort, I too, moved from a Samsung AMOLED screen and thought the HTC one x was experiencing issues with color. Too me, it all seems very warm and yellowish...but looks like that's pretty normal when I compare it to any other LCD.
Thank you all for your feedback. I have a record of bad luck when it comes to getting new cellphones, there is always an issue with the one I get.
This one is looking very, very solid so far. The only thing bothering me was the screen, but now I know it's supposed to be that way. I guess my mind got used to interpret blue as white due to the amoled screen of the note.
I imagine time will make it look better and better as I adapt to it.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
My screen looks exactly like yours, its somewhat warm (yellow) and I'm not a fan. The demo unit at my local store looks perfect so I'm just waiting for inventory to flush a little maybe before trying to swap.

Loled (LG OLED)

From the previews around the web, the screen looks way too blue. I wonder if LG borrowed the RGBW sub-pixel arrangement that they use for their OLED TVs? I am not a purist who lives and die by color accuracy, but it would be interesting to know how LG's OLED perform and differ compared to Samsung's AMOLED.
its not that different. Also, LCD's don't have the kind of pixel death issue and thus higher resale than OLEDs. The wallpapers look nice on the G-Flex 2: i hope someone uploads them (in full resolution) sometime soon.
For the love of everything holy, call it by its real name P-OLED.
LG didn't say anything about WRGB, and they usually boast about such things, so I assume it'll be like the original G Flex and be RGB. At least it's not pentile.

Pretty sure it is. If I get real close I can see jaggies.
is this screen(OLED) gonna burn-in like Samsung's amoled ??????
I do not know if this is true or not but I remember reading somewhere that the G Flex 2 has 4 sub-pixels per pixel instead of the usual 2 sub-pixels found on pentile arrangement. I find that hard to believe but I am throwing it out there since it is not totally outside of imagination. But you would think LG would have gone for 2560x1440 if that is the case.. you know, at least for marketing. I know that the GPU will have to work harder at higher resolution (thus higher power consumption), but my general impression is that the display itself consumes more power than GPU, especially for non-3D workloads.

There will be uneven wear amongst different sub-pixels. That is the nature of OLED tech, and every tech in general. Once you start using electronic devices they all start to wear. The question is always the matter of degree and kind, and how it is mitigated.
