If I change my SD Card and I am going to get a new SD Card with more space, will I have to re-install those ROMs, or can I just copy-paste and have them work?

just copy and paste everything from card to card and you should be good to go..
You will need to format the new card, do a search on this topic to verify what format to use..

Hey i just got my new micro sd card whats the best way to backup everything on my old one and restore it to the new one? do i just copy paste everything? or do i have to format it in a specific way?
copy everything from the old card to a folder on your computer. Put the new card in the phone, format it from the phone, then transfer everything back.
thanks for the answer.!!
is that all you have to do ?? i am having snags getting phone to recognise the new card.... is there anything else I need to do ?
This is how I did it.just copied all files from card to card. Phone didn't have any problems recognizing new card

I have the Starburst ROM with Data2SD installed and want to replace my SD card with a faster card. Do I have to start from scratch or can I copy everything from the old card to the new card?
Not sure how this would work with the ext4 partition because Windows can't see it.
i would at least try copying everything to your pc and putting it on the new card to see if it works. No one said you have to delete ur old sd card.
and if worst comes to worst, youll just have to reflash the ROM
Not sure about the ext4 partition but when I switched SD cards I simply copied it onto my laptop and moved everything to the new one and it worked fine.

Hi folks,
I rooted my phone using the S-on / unlock bootloader with htcdev /superoneclick method. Now I want to move from the original 8 gig card to a new 32 gig card with a minimum of fuss.
Different threads say you can just copy and paste, or that you have to format your card.
Any advice?
FWIW I have some apps running on the sd card but can move them back to the phone or even delete them if necessary.
Thanks in advance for the help!
What you have read is correct!
I have also upgraded to a 16 GB card from the stock 8GB card.
Just as a precautionary measure, On your Windows PC make sure View System Files / Hidden files & folders option is set as visible.
Make sure you do everything with the card inside the Memory Card Reader.
Copy all your content from the old SD card to a folder on your PC.
Insert the new Card in the memory card reader on your computer.
Format your new SD Card.
Paste all the content of your old SD Card (that you backed up earlier in a folder) to your new SD card.
Insert the card in your phone, check for Pictures, Apps.... Enjoy!

Cool, thanks. Just to double check - what format? And did you have to reinstall anything?
Format : FAT32
No, din need to reinstall anything.
If you wish, you could transfer the apps to phone memory from your old SD Card before you begin the process.

Thanks again, that worked fine, no real problems.
I did have to reinstall Modern Combat which was a bit strange but then it remembered where I was in the game. Odd but no hassles.
That game may be a one off case. . . May be that's Y i suggested you to transfer apps from your SD Card to the Phone Memory before changing the SD Card.
Anyways, Cheers !!!
Hello,
My Desire S is running on rom BlindMIUI_v2.5.25 which I loaded June 5th of this month. Suddenly since 3 days back it is saying "Damaged SD card storage" and also saying "Format USB storage, erasing all files stored there, action cannot be reversed"
Please advise should I format SD card? Will this solve the problem. If I format then I will try to save files and then will do it and restore the file again.
What happen is that if I reboot is for few time the SD card comes again and for no reason I disappear without any notice.
Please help me if there is any solution.
Brgds
Looks like It's corrupted. A format should fix it. Connect it to your computer via a memory card reader or mount it in recovery and backup everything to your computer if possible. Then do a full format of the card (uncheck quick format in Windows). After that use the 'format sdcard' option in recovery and then copy the backed up data to the phone.

Hello sashank,
Thanks for so prompt response. See I have just inserted another SD card and now phone does not get any SD card. It says "SD card is not available". From this it seems to me it is rom problem not the SD card. Am I correct? Should I change the rom and go for a newer version which is MIUI.us-2.6.8 or just a format will do?
Please advise.

Hello darkion,
The phone is giving the option to format it. Should I do the format through phone or is there any other way to do it. Please advise me in details.
Would appreciate your help.
If your phone is giving an option to format it then use it. I find it strange that it didn't detect the other SD card too, but in any case if it's asking you to format it instead of just not detecting it then it doesn't seem like an issue with the card slot. So format it in the phone and see how it goes. Alternatively, go into recovery-wipe and format-format sdcard. I always use this for formatting my card as it works better then formatting it in the ROM itself, especially when my card gets corrupted.

You should not forget to simply clean your sd-card and the slot in your device a little bit. This might be an easy solution, you should at least try it.
Or maybe you've already done .. ?

Hello sashank,
What I did is I formatted it in the PC so as in recovery as you said in the earlier response. The phone give the option but it does not work so I could not formatted it through phone.
It seems like working now. Phone shows there is SD card and through file explorer I can go to SD cards file. But only thing is that when I go to SD card files through file explorer, it take few seconds to retrieve the SD card files which never happened before.
Thanks for all your help.
Ok, when you format it in the PC, if you're using Windows, choose a cluster size of 32k in the format window. It gives a better read and write speed, especially read speed. So the SD card shouldn't take that long to show files. In general you'll see the card is giving faster speeds, both on the phone and when transferring files from the computer.
Also there's another way to increase the read speed of the SD card in the phone, which is by setting a higher read ahead speed. If you want to know more you can search about it, but otherwise just install this app SD Speed Increase, set your read ahead speed to 2048kB and tick 'set on every boot'. You shouldn't feel any SD lags after this. This speed increase is only on the phone though, won't reflect if you're transferring files from a computer. You need to be rooted for this to work.
hi,
I have a 2gb card and there are many apps in it.I have another card in which there are some video files. So i want to ask if i un-mount my card and insert a new card then what will happen to my apps and games which are installed in sd card? there will be any problem? or i can simply change the card and after checking the files of my new card, i can put the original card back and everything will work fine?

Connect ur fone to pc and move .android_secure to the other sd card and also other folders if u want then insert the card back in the fone. And it will be better if u turn off the fone while changing sd card.
Hope this helps.
