First of all: Wrong section
Second: Yes you are screwed, your best bet would be to send it in for repair.

This is why you back up your efs folder before doing anything potentially dangerous.
Your IMEI is on your box.

Wrong section....fail
Return to stock....fail.
You are on a roll!

I understand the guy posting here though, he's freaking out and the Q&A section is a veritable graveyard of knowledgeable people lol. Just a bunch of us screaming help with no answers from above, sort of like Dante's Hell.

He still got his answer though

Wrong section! But yes, this is strange. Somehow my phone has same weakness. Few times I went back to rooted stock, and every time I've tried to root it, my EFS folder got wiped. I was trying to figure out which ROM did that, but it was never ROM, it was root process somehow :S...

but why do you keep rooting? All you need to do is install loader and then use pre rooted roms.

Because I wanted to try that option, to wipe completely and flash all stock rooted. I did that two times with no luck... Every time my EFS folder got wiped and rebuild :S...

if you can find from anyone an efs backup zip with his/her imei number. and search with an hex editor or something like that. and replace your imei number into the file and flash it from recovery back.
it's just a supposition.

You can't just replace IMEI, because that file is encrypted. Already tried that ...

I had that same problem when that happened to me months ago. My solution was to wipe and install the stock rom that was shipped with the phone before it would let me connect. Later versions of the stock rom do not work. If this works for you, please post it in that thread that it worked. Apparently I can't post in the Android Development section yet...

If you have lost your IMEI/ERI you a few ways you can try to get it back.
1) You can use Odin to go all the way back to ICS and then reprovision your phone. Once you're on stock ICS type *2767*3855# in your dialer. Go to part five of this guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28530394&postcount=1
Once you have service back you then use casual to root, unlock and flash custom recovery. Then before you flash any roms to go Synergy thread and download the HW backup zip to make a backup of your IMEI/ERI and put that folder away for safe keeping..ie hdd, drobpox, etc.
2) I was able to get mine back without using Odin with this method.

Check "About phone" -> "Status" -> "IMEI" if that is 0 then more than likely your screwed. Return it to complete stock and take it to Verizon and play dumb. I got a new phone when this happened to me.

Thus why verizon encrypted the bootloader in the first ****ing place!
I'll point the finger at you, at this point but I'll also add that if the **** was unlocked, they wouldn't get so many phones back from people who ****ed them up in the first place as it would be easier to fix.
Both a-d'em things is lame.

The same thing happens on ATT, Tmobile, Rogers, etc.. all which are unlocked bootloaders. Read and understand the risk before you flash. I'm on phone #2 after hosing my IMEI.

The IMEI # gets lost with absolutely zero interaction? No swapping Roms? No "hacking?" It just.. disappears? Reboot the phone and poof- it's gone? Wake up one morning and no IMEI. Dead phone - completely random? Could happen to me on my way to the grocery store kinda thing?
Cause.. it kinda sounds like a tripwire to me.
My apologies if I am wrong.

In desperate need of root and roms.

But my main issue is my comp crashed, I have a buddy with one I could use...
Now my question is, with the imei issues going on or possibilities.....if I back it up is there a way to restore the imei without comp? Will a nandroid of the stock rooted Rom restore it?
Or an I better off waiting til I have a working comp at home.
Thanks in advance.

Wait until you have everything backed up and saved safely on a computer. Better safe than sorry.
Completely missed the main question, I know I have to back that stuff up.
I want to know if I can restore lost imei from my phone, or if it has to be done from a computer.
If I can't do it on the fly then I'll wait till I get my new comp finished

You could always flash beans or synergy. Those roms are stock and have no chance of losing your imei. Only AOSP roms have it.

That is absolutely not true. Several users have lost their IMEI from flashing stock based ROMs.
Flashing pretty much anything runs you the risk of losing your IMEI.

About rooting

Hi guys,
I'm new at android, want to ask about rooting. In old days, sometimes when you bought a phone, after a month or more it can do crazy stuff(not response to user commands and etc.), then you give it to warranty service and they fix it(because the user can't do that). In nowadays, what can happen bad to android phone? The question is, should I care about warranty of my phone?
I'm using HTC Explorer. Oh, and a little of topic question, is it possible to unbrick this device, if it'll get bricked?
Thanks .

Thanks for reply, so, should I care about warranty? Or can I be sure, that nothing bad will happen?
For now this model doesn't look like having any defekts, anyway you can give it month or 2, so if something is wrong go to service and claim waranty, if not, root it.
Thanks a lot for the info(clicked that small button). Have a nice day .
Well since we can't UART, hard bricks are irreparable except embarassing yourself in service center.

What is UART? Universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter? And how to do a hard brick, throw a phone to the wall? Sorry, don't know very much terms .
Hard brick is very, I mean VERY unlikely to happen with explorer mainly because you can't s-off-it, so the wall option might just do the trick

UART just means connecting to it via serial connection. Remember the good ol' days of serial devices? Hahaha.
Okay, I've some very stupid questions, but please, answer them:
1. In rooting procedure, is it possible to somehow/somewhat do wrong and brick the device irreparably?
2. I looked at this tutorial.
- Place this Superuser.zip file somewhere in the microSD first.

How to place it here if we are in recovery mode(3 category, last step)? Can I put it there before all the procedure? Or I just don't understand correctly, after adding recovery should I boot the device, connect as USB drive and then go to fastboot mode again?
Please answer, thanks.
Put it before and just in case DON'T do factory reset from bootloader, do it either from menu, either from recovery. And don't worry nothing is irreparably

You meant when I'll need it, not in rooting procedure? Because it wasn't mentioned in the tutorial about it.
Thanks a lot for the info .
Yes, yes, I sayed that just in case, it's not necesery to do reset after rooting.
Okay, I'm going to unlock my bootloader, but when I press "Begin Unlock Bootloader", it shows text and there is "To prevent unauthorized access to your data, unlocking the bootloader will delete all personal data from your device including applications, text messages and personalized settings.". Is it possible to avoid it? I don't really want to delete all my apps and etc...
EDIT: okay, I've just backuped all apps, contacts and messages...
I've unlocked the bootloader by fully reading all instructions, but it doesn't wiped my data! When I access bootloader, it shows "*** UNLOCKED ***", so did they forgot to delete it ?
EDIT: Okay, I've rooted it. Strange, that it didn't wiped all my data, but that's good news. Thanks a lot for the info, guys !

I would reflash the Hyperdrive ROM with no theme. I've had that happen a few times when applying a theme to my ROM. if you flash the Hyperdrive ROM and it still doesn't work I'd flash a different ROM.
After flashing, (of course after full wipe) test calls and messages and contacts apps. Then if you flash a mod or theme after that. Try your phone, text and contacts again. If they do not work, then your theme has borked them.
I have tried re flashing the ROM and still nothing i wiped everything that needed to be wiped before flashing and still nothing. I didn't think a theme would make this happen. But I guess another ROM wouldn't hurt to see if it works then. Will post back after and I might need some help though if it does not work

Go to System Settings > About Phone > Status. Under IMEI there should be a 15 digit number. If it's missing or just says 0 then you lost your IMEI, which is basically your phone's network ID number. Also is your phone number correct as listed in that menu?

Assuming you didn't make a back up, you're going to have to restore it. Here's the link to a tutorial: http://droidmodderx.com/galaxys3/?page_id=79
It is pretty involved so make sure you read the instructions carefully. Are you familiar with ODIN, because the first thing you have to do is flash back to a stock rooted ROM. Use this thread for that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762204
If you don't feel comfortable doing all of it I would get somebody that does. You can easily hard brick your phone using ODIN. Also, ODIN will completely erase your internal memory. So I would make a backup of any photos/files you need before proceeding.

Yeah i have a friend that helped me use Odin but hes not on Skype and he won't be anytime soon i believe, i don't trust myself doing it alone.
The first thing I would try would be to flash the mbf1 radio.
I have had similar issues and that's the easy fix.

He is right, getting your imei back is only halfway home. Your ERI should say 5 and under mobile network is should say Verzion Wireless.
