So, the best way to backup apps before installing the Froyo update to a previously non-rooted Mesmerize?
App-Brain? I understand that won't necessarily save any data associated with the apps...
I used Titantium for my phone which was running Superclean ROM, with the Voodoo kernel, but now my wife (who didn't want me playing with her phone previously) wants to update to Froyo...
titanium is the best way to do it and preserve the user data.
however, if she really doesn't want her phone rooted (even though the froyo update will void the warranty, and is pre-rooted anyway ) you're stuck using appbrain.
i personally used titanium to back up all my apps and system data, and it worked great.

I used titanium backup, the free version will suffice for backups. You will have to make the backups on your phone, then reinstall Titanium Backup once you boot into froyo, in order to restore your backups again.

+1 I would get the premium mostly cause you will always use this app. Also, I have a spare sd card, and I make a mirror of the internal sd by just select all> copy> paste into external sd card. Then you have a mirror of what is on the internal card.
I used My Backup when I rooted my phone, saved it to sd, and it worked quite nice. Saved all my messages and was easy to restore. Had the option of saving data and app or just one or the other.
Did OTA update to ICS on stock B90, then rooted with vipermod. Root is confirmed. Now I'm looking to backup installed apps and user data using the Asus App Backup app. Everything sets up fine, password entered. 21 apps + data selected, file named, etc. Get message that it will take about 10 minutes to complete. Pathnames are correct, folders are present, permissions seem ok. Runs for about 10 seconds, comes back with " 0 Successful " and 21 failed. Red x's by all selected apps. Any ideas?
Ultimate goal is to backup apps and data, then do a factory reset to clear cache and data from HC, maybe even do a stock recovery to ICS then set everything back up. Trying to see if this will clear up any of the annoyances that came with ICS update.

Yeaah.....
Well I don't really have a solution but i'm certainly experiencing the same trouble u have I Did OTA update to ICS on stock, then rooted with vipermod number 1 option on the vipermod. Root is confirmed. Im trying to restore a previous backup I did and no luck error message is "Failed to restore.please try again"
I just ran a backup of 10 apps to test it on Revolver 4.0.0 Beta 1.31 ICS. Worked perfectly for me.
You can try going to Settings - Apps - App Backup - Force Close then Clear Data
Then try running the backup again.
Just for reference it's worked great for me twice on rooted ICS (stock) from rooted HC (stock). Good luck.
Where are you storing the backup, internal SD or external (microSD)? Encountered this one before until I found out that there wasn't enough space in the microSD. Suggest try to back up first on the internal SD and copy it later when it's successful. On ICS, I had done two backup and restore and all went well.

Backup path is set to internal, with a copy going to external microSD. MicroSD is 32GB and hardly anything on it, so room shouldn't be a problem. Might try without creating a copy file, and sending it over manually.
Tried that and failed again. So it would seem that it just doesn't like writing the apps and data. When I look in the Asus/App_Backup directory, it creates folders for all the apps, but then doesn't write anything to the folders. Interesting.

No....trying to create backup of apps after ICS update so I can do factory reset. I actually went ahead and did the factory reset last night, and got everything back from Amazon and Google markets, not too painful, but still would like to know what's up with the backup utility.

How? Do you mean that you fixed it BY flashing Revolver 4, or that you fixed it first, then flashed, then restored?
I'm on a B90, so not really looking for flashing ROMS right now, as nvflash doesn't work.

The same with all old backups
I have taken a backup of all my apps and data on Revolver ROM using TB, saved it on my MicroSD. Flashed Megatron , installed TB and tried restoring the apps but TB still doesn't pick them up.
I did point to the right backup folder in Preferences, but still to no avail. Flashed back Revolver and tried restoring again, but same issues. Copied the TB backup folder from the MicroSD to the TF internal SD, changed the backup folder location again in Preferences, but still TB doesn't pick up the apps and restore them.
Anyone else facing the same issues ? Need help here. Thanks
Maybe the rom you were coming from stored the apks differently like odexed or some nonsense and now megatron can't see them? Idk I'd wish I could help... bumb to find the answer
Hi gents. I am trying to restore my phone to a recent clockworkmod recovery backup but several of the latest backups won't restore the downloaded programs of the time, nor do they seem to be restoring the general Android settings. Older backups are working perfectly, however, and I can't think of any significant or unusual changes I made to the system that could stop it working properly. Also, I have been backing up and restoring the same way.
I'm using Revolutionary CWM v4.0.1.4, HTC ICS 4.0.4 (w/ older HBOOT for S-OFF), HTC Desire S.
I find this very strange, and unsettling that clockworkmod's backup may be unreliable. Has anybody experienced this?
Another thing, I have also been backing up the entire SD card data in the later backups (just copying to computer via card reader), thinking it may be best to restore backups with this data, but it seems to not make a difference whether this is done, or the data left as-is, or the card cleared. What's best practice in regard to the Android data that's put on the SD card?
My phone is up the creek. Help!?
i am having the same problem restoring CWM v4.0.1.4 backups on my galaxy s2: older backups restore perfectly and newer backups restore incompletely (some settings and SMSs, but no apps and no contacts).
i believe this is an issue with large nandroid images (containing >10,000 files) being unable to restore properly. this implies the backup itself is intact, luckily.
read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154892
to rebuild my phone i started by using unyaffs on my PC to access the files on the CWM nandroid image and restore my contacts, call logs, etc:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1370349
you can find additional file locations listed in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=969650
i then used appextractor (available in the play store) to manually restore my apps and app data from the CWM nandroid image. some needed to be redownloaded.
it's a schlepp but better than losing everything entirely.
i've read that TWRP is a more reliable way to backup and restore. i'm certainly not using CWM again.
regarding your second question, the data on your internal and external SD card is irrelevant to the function of the OS, but some apps may rely on that data. for example large apps install on the SD card.
Thanks so much for that matey. I searched and searched but hadn't come across the 10,000 files limitation. How annoying!
Anyhoo, before I saw your post I ended up restoring the latest working backup and reinstalled apps, configured things, got the device mostly up to speed.. but there were some sentimental Messages I wanted to restore. I got that unyaffs exe, the 10,000 file fix one, and managed to extract the mmssms.db just fine..
But I soon learnt it seems to be a nightmare to get it back into ICS because the SQLite db is in full-vacuum mode or some such, meaning it is cached and rewritten to help avoid fragmentation or some such. So I overwrite the mmssms.db, set permissions and ownership, reboot, and it's overwritten with the current one. Argh. I tried clearing cache. Tried running SMS backup/restore apps while the 'good' mmssms.db was in place, but they seem to look at the db cache/temp data, not the mmssms.db.
For those facing my situation and want Messages from CWM/nandroid backups in ICS, I found a great tip just posted on one of the threads N-acetyltransferase linked;

I did this yesterday using Titanium Backup for my SMS/MMS
You need to go into Preferences and check the *Migrate system data [Experimental] option
Then you go to More - Extract from nandroid backup
There it is listed as Dialer Storage

I had tried using TiBu to restore Messages from nandroid backup (no success), but Dialer Storage!? How annoying. Anyhoo it's sorted.
Then I quickly found a good alternative recovery and quickly bought the premium version of 4EXT. It's very good, but get this, it actually recovered my latest CWM recovery backup no drama, just like that! Ahh well I didn't need those hours of my life anyway. I've often thought the Desire S's codename Saga is rather apt.
In conclusion, TiBu looks damn good and 4EXT is a ripper. I'd recommend it however the Galaxy S2 support is apparently unconfirmed thus far. Maybe look into it nevertheless.
Thanks for the help dude.
Hi guys, I recently just flashed CM 12.1 w/ Android 5.1.1 on my Zenfone 2.
Before doing that, I backed up my apps+data using Titanium Backup. After flashing, I transferred back the Titanium Backup folder in the internal storage where it originally was. I then re-installed Titanium Backup. Unfortunately, there's 0 apps that can be restored according to Titanium Backup. I even checked the Storage location and it even showed my backups.
Help ASAP. TIA
Install the apps before backup. It might work.

Nevermind, just found out that my backups were corrupted. Anyways, is there anyway to restore the data of the apps instead? I dont mind re-downloading the apps again as long as I can get my data back
In the titanium backup.
One off the two zips will have you apk inside. Just open the zip and install the apk

Hi there...how did you solve the problem?
I also have the same problem...I backed everything up then flashed cyanogenmod Marshmallow 6.0.1 then after flash copied all the backup folder back to internal memory so it can be seen by Titanium backup app and still doesn't work...it doesn't see anything...although it sees the location and the files under titanium backup/preferences/Backup Settings...Backup Folder Location..but in the app I cannot see any of the apps I backed up...how can I solve the problem..please help me
i think titanium needs to be updated to the latest version. the older version somehow doesn't work and don't see the backups properly (on my stock z3c pre rooted rom). after I installed the latest version, it worked like a charm
WARNING: Titanium doesn't backup the media folder for Whatsapp nor Wechat. backup the media that you want manually before flashing. the chatlogs are backed up properly

Hi Everyone
Sorry for digging up an old topic but I have a very similar situation and almost got gray hair already
Did anyone found a solution to the issue from opening post ?
Here's what I have done (and already regret it
- I was on stock 5.1.1 android for xperia z1 compact D5503
- I have installed Kingroot to remove some bloatware applications through titanium backup.
- Then I have made a backup of all applications of my interest (sms/mms, k9-mail etc.) and copied that to a folder on external sd card.
- Then I came over idea of Pre-rooted stock roms. Performed that (downgrade to 4.4.4, root, dual recovery, instal pre-rooted rom from zip).
- Installed TiBackup, copied all backups from sd to internal memory.
- Opened TiBackup - mind blown - no apps with backups.. In Preferences - Folder backups are shown.
Any ideas? Corrupted backups? That would make me very sad
Any help much appreciated.

OK,
I have solved the riddle. So easy and obvious that I didn't notice.
When I was doing all the stuff from the post above I was using sd card reader.
So to be on the safe side - i have copied all SD card content to win10 PC.
Then when I thought I was ready - copied all to 1 folder "Stuff" and then to SD card.
What I have missed was that during that process file extensions were changed. So all *.properties were now *.properties.txt and all *.bzip were *.bzip.zip and so on.
So my problem is solved. Perhaps someone else could use it too.
Best regards
ky0q
thanks a lot .. that solve my problem
Yeh, SD card to the rescue!
