Alrighty, Krylon and I have worked out the minor details and im headed to the post office to ship him my 4G first thing tomorrow(wed) morning. Please be patient and let nature take its course. Stop trying to flash the Vibrant CWM on the 4G, it will not work. You run the risk of doin' some srs bsnz to your shiny new handset flashing a cwm or sd fix that is not made for your phone. You will all have your Custom firmware fix soon.
If you feel a compulsion to donate to Krylon or myself, go nuts, i wont stop you!

I had to take some time off bud. Personal issues came up and couldn't have done anything with the 4G in hand during that time.

Hey guys, crappy news. With whats happening in Japan im on a 45 day underway and i don't have time to send my phone off at the moment. We have to go hang by the coast and make sure nobody tries to take advantage of Japans situation. Wish my carrier group luck and if no-one has taken my place by the time i get back into Norfolk ill send my phone then.

Krylon, I know you haven't taken a look at the phone yet but Im new to the samsung world and curious about the differences from my G1. From another post I gather that the final product for installing/using CWM will involve a zip that is flashed from the standard recovery that replaces the standard recovery with CWM and then reboots? Is that what you think will end up doing to get CWM working? If so what about these phones require such a work around? I've tried doing some googleing but i get a lot of false positives in my results.

the kernel isn't a standard kernel. It uses a initramfs. which has recovery built into it. This is what makes it different.

Lets get evild a g2x!

I'm sure many of you are firmilar with evild's work on the n1, mt4g and other highend devices. I happened to flash his 3.0 rom on my wifes mt4g sand got to chatting with him. Hes interested in getting a g2x, so I told him id attempt to orchestrate a collection of funds to buy him a g2x. First things first, what will a no contract g2x cost? What is the cheapest anyone has seen one for sale off contract? Secondly, if anyone has an upgrade they are willing to donate, THAT WOULD BE PHENOMENAL! I'm good for $100 to start things off. That is why I hate xda bunch of free loading crack flashers that don't help the Dev. community just piss people off and whine for help when they get in trouble....... count me in for 20 bucks

Very good question... I can only assume so, since alot of his work is done with sense ui. I sent him a pm with the link to this thread, so as he reads through it, I'm sure he'll clarify on that.

haha yea a little part of me died when the sense roms stopped for the N1

Yea, I guess I didn't miss it all that much because I went straight from the n1 to the mt4g. So I almost immediately had evil support again lol.

have you been on the internet long? people are people. and you'll find people like that on any forum. i've seen people talking like that online since before the internet was mainstream. it's not only xda. there is no way to stop it. so just get used to it. but, i got your back on voicing your opinion as well. what xda needs is a dislike button. i've seen them on other sites. and after so many dislikes,your post gets hidden and members have to click "show" to see it.

People like you thinking it's ok to use these Roms for free without donating a dime is a FAIL!
These Devs work hard and long hrs. to make these roms for your phone to function and look better!
So a little donation wouldn't hurt for you to give!
Or better yet if you don't, don't bother commenting on it!
Don't look at it as paying for there phone, but rather an advance for work they are going to do for you!

Your idea is ingenious. I will take it up with a friend whose a mod here and see what he thinks. Not sure it will get too far but you never know.

That is a very good idea. Giving thumbs down to certain posters would warn other readers at this forum. It would also be useful against scammers who steal the Dev's work and pawn the mods as their own begging for donations. There was one on the Samsung Epic forum last year and on the Asus Transformer forum a few weeks ago.

I've been on the internet for awhile... a lot of forums and yes I know there are always negative people... I can be one of them... at times... but I hate how broad the ignorance on this site is..

G2x replacement with Gingerbread

Spoke to a rep about getting my G2x replaced yet again #4 as this thing is getting constant reboots *stuck to stock OS to see if it was true* he explained to me that the latest G2x's are updated with Gingerbread and the displays have been fixed and I did not even mention the display...
Tomorrow it will be here. Lets see if this guy did not pull it out of his ass and was being true.
Will keep this thread updated.

Tomorrow the update will be here? Yea. Sure. Honestly I don't have any issues with my phone but it would be nice to get an update.

No. I only made this thread because I told them to call me for my replacement when the G2x problems have been solved.
I got a phone call they mentioned all that ****.
I dont believe them but the fact that they called me back to tell me this 2 weeks later and so i can get my replacement is pretty bad ass.
So we will see what happens when I get the new G2x

This is right, we honestly have no idea when this is coming. I check our internal information DAILY and nothing has been updated. It comes when it does, anyone who gives you a solid date is wrong as of this moment.

Well, if you do receive a G2x with the update, you can post the files for us then.

I got to thinking last night and thought "isn't CM6 froyo based?" In a way it may be a step back version wise but a step forward for this device in another way. Just a thought I wanted to present to the folks here.

It is froyo based but it will never happen, sduvick tried and could not even get it booting it's complicated.

I gave it to my sister because her blackberry broke but i still have access to it.

I like this idea and because of it being froyo wouldn't it be a viable option step back in time to move forward anyone with the ability to do this have the cajones to step up and do this for your fellow forum dweller(s)

We'll see what you could do, I never try but kudos to you for trying. I have seen about 2 or 3 devs try this and they all failed and didn't even get it booting.

Hello everyone, I'm Indirect and while most of you have no idea who I am, I was politely asked to come help you all out for development towards downgrade / s-off on your devices. Now, as much as I would LOVE to help, I can only do so much without the actual device. I know this sounds like mooching, annoying, etc that some other "developers" do to try and gain attention but I'm sure you can see that I've made progress in just a few short hours as you can see here So I would like to now ask the community I'm trying to help if they would be willing to help me out as well and have my job be just a bit easier. I own multiple devices that I work on (Evo View 4G tablet, Nook Tablet, Nexus S 4G) and I develop for the evo shift when I can get around to it, but since I am not 18 and unemployed, I can't really go out and just throw down cash for a mytouch. Developing is essentially my career, balance that with school and my life gets hectic. So, if you read on, you will see how much I'm working towards.

New device, killed that one and since it has a void sticker broken and I'd rather not send it to HTC for moral reasons, I want to have it JTAG'd.
Well guys. I bricked 2 MT4GS while helping test s-off. Looks like I need to RMA one and JTAG the other. What do I need? Well, it cost 40$ + shipping. I know some stuff about the kernel, but not atm enough to get a custom kernel up and running. Also guys, I seriously only have 1$ to my name, pretty sure it won't be enough. Lol.

This would be fantastic - I was working with this character last night in IRC and he's got the enthusiasm necessary backed up by the knowledge we need to get in our corner of XDA.
People are complaining from time to time about the anemic development here in the MT4GS forums, well, here is a way of increasing that dev.
If people aren't interested or able in picking up the torch themselves to get involved in development, then helping someone like this get a device in their hands will help us all out.
Normally i'm not such a fan of this but this is the real deal - we get a device in his hands and we WILL see more dev around here.
Look at the progress he's already helped us make towards the S-OFF issue - we got past getting the misc.version put in place and unraveled another layer of the issue, now we are stuck on hboot being our block.
Not bad for someone without a physical device in their hands, eh? Imagine what he could help us with not having to work proxy through one of us...
