Just had a good scare - No Baseband! - T-Mobile LG G2x

I changed sims in my G2X and when I booted up I noticed it wasn't getting a signal. I went into status and the baseband showed as "unknown." I was thinking WTF. I have joined the ranks of borked basebands and I have done nothing bad to my phone. I calmly turned off the phone and switched to a sim from another carrier. To my relief the baseband was showing again and the phone connected to the cell network. I then turned it off again and put back the sim that had the baseband error. This time it worked and everything is back to as it should be. I have no idea why I got the no baseband error but it almost gave me a heart attack. Being in Thailand and no viable way to flash the baseband right now I would have been SOL if it had not been rectified.

thats crazy, your story kinda makes me wonder if the people that thought there phones were really borked maybe using the lg updater or doing whatever they were doing could have just took there sim out then put it back in and been fine...makes me wonder, i mean i understand u put a different sim in the phone also but maybe just the original sim had to be taken out and just put back in?

Does make you wonder. Doesn't it. Especially since some of the people said all of the sudden their baseband disappeared and was working before. It could be something as simple as the sim just wasn't making contact or the little computer in the sim got confused and had to be reset by being powered down by being removed from the device, let sit a bit and then reinserted?

I has issue oíd my baseband saying it was unknown after the LG updater and I took my simcard out and it came back after that I made a thread about it as well... this might be kinda funny that the fix was that easy if it is the case.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App

There was another thread last week where someone posted the exact same results. I'll try to find it. Baseband said Unknown so the OP powered off, removed sim card, replaced everything and powered up and baseband showed up just fine.

Right you are .. lol

Might work for some, but not all. The LG Updater destroyed my baseband, and as part of trying to fix it I got a new sim card from T-Mo but that didn't work either. Ended up sending it off to LG for repair.

Lost Cell Service

I was changing my V6 Supercharger settings yesterday when I noticed my cell service crap out. I thought it was due to me changing from build.prop to local.prop, but changing the setting back did not resolve the issue. So, I unSupercharged.. nothing. Wiped data, cache, dalvik and reinstalled Tweakstockv1.1.. nothing (via CWR). Odin'd Tweakstockv1.. nothing. Odin'd Tweakstockv1.1... nothing (left battery and SIM in while Odin'ing, like I usually do).
I tried pulling the battery and SIM card but that didn't help. I checked my Verizon account - it's active.
What in the fudgeballs just happened? Does it sound like a fried SIM?
I just Odin'd Tweakstockv1 for ****s and gigs WITHOUT the battery and SIM card installed... No cell service, but mobile data came back.
What in the balllllllls?
Flash it back to stock and bring it to Verizon store.
It may just be a bad SIM card. Take the card into the store and they should replace it for free. May want to flash back stock as recommended above prior to your visit.

You might be right with the bad sim card idea. Its always been recommended to Odin without sim card in phone.
I've stumbled across people who have needed to go into Verizon and get a new sim card.

Guess the last thing i would try before getting new sim is to flash the radios.

Can I use a coworker's SIM card to test? Or do I need a brand new one from Verizon? I'm thinking I can use another SIM card since Verizon activates via the device's IMEI?

wont work like that with Verizon. Your co-worker with have to unregister their device with that sim. Than you would have to register that sim to your phone. More hassel than your co-worker is going to want to deal with.
Ah, that's what I feared. Oh well, off to the Verizon store I go

[Q] Sim driver?

So i tried rooting my phone using debloated_deodexed_ep4d.tar.md5.
I took out the sim card during the process, even have a friends charge to test something from doing this before. I found out that some how after the flash the phones sim card slot stops working ive tried many other roms and modems to try getting it to work is anyone able to tell me why it would stop working does anyone have the working piece i need to get it to work again?
If you tried other roms, with the same result, then you need to get your phone exchanged.it isn't a dover issue if it happens with all roms.

Call verizon and get to second level of technical support. They can send something to your sim that displays "updating sim" on your screen. Not saying this will fix your issue but it worked for me on a similar situation. first thing tech guy asked was "you have 4g phone?" Than he sent the info.

i rooted my phone as soon as the first debloated rooted+voodoo came out and that installed fine but i liked having some of the features they got rid of and was a little buggy and ive tried two different debloated rooted roms they might be different but they seem to look the same and i cant do the sim update because i live in alaska where they have no "verizon" towers just leased towers or whatever from another cell leader in our area but suck for cell phone choices and only recently became price comparative. well i was hoping id get a programmer or someone that could help or someone who has an exact copy but i lost my job so i had to turn off my phone anyways better to stay local anyways. i just put my service on pause still have the unlimited package why i wanted to get root back on my phone

Phone lost signal, never returned

Not sure what happened, I all of a sudden lost the signal completely and it has not come back no matter what I do. I've reflashed, removed SIM, battery, reset default APN"s, all that good stuff.
Says that I have unidentified networks, no IP address recognized, basically acting as if I do not have a SIM, but I dont get the "no sim message".
When i took the SIM out, I noticed on the gold chip that there were 3 vertical lines running about 3/4 way across the chip, from top to bottom. It looks as if the contacts inside the slot for the SIM, made a groove into the SIM, not sure how.
Can someone verify that these lines are supposed to be on the SIM? They look too uniformed to be cause on accident.

When I went to the T-Mobile store, my sim card works in another phone...they seem to think that my IMEI was banned.
I guess T-Mobile does that to people who haven't paid their bill, they deactivate the phone. Right now I'm on wifi but I still can't use the phone, only email and internet, probably text too I haven't tried.
I guess T-Mobile will ban an IMEI

I'm going to try and get out of it, i've been going back and forth with a couple of rep's over their online chat. Confirmed the IMEI is blocked and I have to get ahold of the previous owner. The only problem is that I don't know who that person is.

No sim card error?? Any solutions??

This is not my forum, I don't have one yet, I have the bell, samsung galaxy s2 hd lte. It's a brand new device 9 days old, it started yesterday saying "no sim card inserted " I had you pull the battery and sim card then reboot, it was fine again for 12 hours now it's happened twice?? Anyone else experienced this??
Our phones are similar, bell said get a new sim, which I will tomorrow, however after a Google search this seems to be a popular error with the s2.
Thanks

Are you on the stock ROM? Are you rooted? Did you flash anything to the phone or change the ROM, Kernel, or modem? If you haven't done any of this, I would try the new SIM card. If that doesn't work, exchange the phone. If you have done something, try going back to stock and see if it resolves the issue. Alot of times it comes down to the modem / radio being mismatched to a ROM or Kernel.
im having the same problem, the way to fix it is odin flash the firmware from sammobile, buttt i cant connect my phone via usb anymore thus im stuck with this problem ;(
2 Possible Solutions(Easy Fix)
1, wait out the data outage in your area. We are on ATT and having the same exact issue and when I called 611(Customer Service) the automated answering system told me that they are currently experiencing data outages in my area. could be due to a tower/service upgrade being that 4G is coming out in more areas now.
2, call 611 and set up your phone model with the customer service rep at the technical support extension.
I would put a 3rd option... but I haven't tried flashing a new rom yet, I just got the Skyrocket as a free refurb from Insurance and I am currently on an unrooted stock GB ROM.
yes flashing to original rogers tar using odin did fix it.. but if i try other roms its broken again, so for now it looks like ill have to stay with the original firmware
If you flash the ucle2 modem in SeanZscreams post it will most likely fix the issue on each Rom you flash as long as you flash the modem after.

To check to see if its your SIM card, use a USB Adapter or microSD -> SD adapter. Back up all your files then reformat it using: https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_3/ and then put back all your stuff and try again.
try this or other plp that have this problem try this pliz an coment

The error message that said I needed to insert a valid sim card happened again today while traveling home.
The good news is I think I figured it out!
The Galaxy S4 requires a "nfc" enabled sim card!
You can't tell by looking at the tiny sim but the larger card the sim comes in has a notation of "nfc" if it's the right card.
I hung out in the Verizon store after inserting it and the drove home "an hour drive" and absolutely no errors!
And I maintained a 4g signal throughout my whole trip which was through some back country where signal is usually marginal.
This is a pretty serious problem for Verizon.
Why?
1. Because if I would have ran around in safe mode it still would have errored.
2. If I would have reformatted to factory settings... The same... All for nothing and days of configuration lost.
3. If I got another new phone, again the same.... All because I would be using my same sim card.!
I'm sure many replace the whole phone "and" sim together and when it works it's assumed the problem was the phone or software.
What a terrible headache for the customer, tech support, and verizon customer service just because people don't know the proper sim card needed for the S4!

Getting Cell Service with NO SIM! And some other guys number ! Help

I just bought a phone the guy who made no mention of the fact that it was rooted when I bought it. What is worse is he mentioned that his GF worked for Verizon, which did not seem to mean much at the time. Knowing that here is what i'm dealing with.
I was in a rush when I checked out the phone as I had to meet another person to pick one up for my wife as well. It's the sch-i575 in white 16gb. After having a minute to look at the phone it turns out he had Paranoid Android flashed and the phone was rooted. CRAP! Not what I was looking for and he was not upfront about it. The incredibly strange thing was that with NO SIMCARD the phone was getting 3g signal! I spent all night trying to unroot \ undo what he did. I managed to use ODIN to get back to the stock rom although I think it's still a rooted one since I still have the super user app. I got a sim card from verizon but since it was rooted I did not bring the phone in and when I tried to activate later it would not activate. My wife's by the way is working flawless and when I put my sim in her phone it works fine as well. I had to put the sim in my wife's phone and it activated there. Here is the crazy thing, with or with out a simcard the phone makes calls and has 3g internet only but when I make a call it uses HIS NUMBER!! I'm not sure what the hell to do, what could have he done? Any ideas? Please all help is appreciated! I did not think this was even possible for the phone to function w/o a sim. I'm worried about taking it in to Verizon because of the funkiness. Ty again for any insight...

I thought the I575 was an old slide phone. So A. your in the wrong section of the forum since this is Verizon's S3 or B. you mentioned the wrong device number? I saw phones before working and running on networks without sim-cards but that was years ago. If it is an S3, you sure it's a Verizon device? Also since you see 3g....can you browse around in the browser or make a phone call?

Yes, it's a galaxy s3 16gb in white. It looks like currently I was using the tar66 using ODIN. I'm reverting back to the bone stock one now. As far as the models go isn't the SCH-I575 the Verizon version of the S3?

Could he have flashed a custom kernel and modem or does reverting back using the stock rom cover all that ?

I just double checked and I had the I535VRLAG1 version, yours is the I535VRALF2 in the link you posted trying this now. The crazy thing is that it even says that the sim is activated with MY number! but the calls are still comming from him. I even tried wiping the device and clearing the cache. I also tried to JUST flash the modem with VRLG1.modem.tar.md5 and nothing :\. Waiting on the file from your link to download and will try that.
Is it possible that this is being caused by something on Verizon's end? The phone ( with out the SIM ) is registered to him somehow? I know this is not normal but because his GF worked for Verizon could they have done something funky?
Yeah its definitely possible its from something she did to the phone but most likely nothing from Verizon's end. Does the IMEI number under status match the IMEI number under the battery?

Yes IMEI is the same in the OS as behind the battery.
The curious thing is that on the same screen in the OS where you find the IMEI there is also a field called Network and it says " Unknown"
It also has things like:
Eri v : 5
Mobile network type : EvDo-rev.a:8
The thing I keep coming back to is how is it possible for this phone to make calls\ have data with out a sim?
Starting to really think I got cheated

Just did and the same thing happened. I went to the Verizon store and the guy there had no idea and got me in touch with tech support from the store. They were dumbfounded and flat out said that what is happening is impossible. "It's impossible to make\receive phone calls with out a sim unless they are emergency" I harped on the fact that I am making phone calls as one of their other customers and that this is a big deal. In the end since I had the insurance and extended warranty they will ship me a new phone.
