[Q] Is it safe to use VMware Workstation to connect to Zune and update to Mango? - HTC 7 Pro

Hello, I'm running Windows XP Professional x64 Edition. I found out that Zune Software doesn't run on this OS. Since I am sick of repartitioning, formatting and installing OSes, I don't want to make new partition and install new OS. So it looks like the only way to connect my phone to Zune and update to Mango is to use a VMware Workstation Virtual machine with compatible OS (WinXP 32bit for example).
Is it safe to update to Mango using a VMware Virtual machine?

RUU for Windows 7

After upgrading my pc to win 7, I have problem with flashing my device and most probably I think the problem is with non compatibility between RUU & win7 ,that's because windows give an error message and close RUU automaticaly.
the problem is with both XP_RUU and Vista_RUU .
Please help with this.
What error show?
I don't have the Windows 7 beta installed anymore, so I'm not even sure this is possible, but if you can, install and run ActiveSync in degraded mode (XP), and do the same for the RUU (run in degraded mode). That might work, or it might brick your phone. I'd say about 50% either way.
Grab a copy of vmware player. Install XP in the virtual machine. Try vmxbuilder.com for building the virtual machine. Install Active Sync 4.5 on the Vm and you are set to go. When you plug your wizard into the PC, if the VM is in the foreground the usb will be redirected to the VM instead of windows 7.
I have been using this method to flash my wizard and has never failed. Much safer than a 50/50 chance of bricking your fone

[Q] Help! Reformatted computer and can't deploy xap anymore

Hi I've just reformatted my computer and installed the following setups related to Windows Phone
1)Windows 7.1 SDK
2)Windows Developer Tools CTP
3)Zune
4)XAPdeployX v0.9
5)Microsoft Visual Studio
For some reason no matter what deployer i use it gives me an error
1)XAPdeployX doesn't even let me open it up. It gives an error "Error: Unable to start. (Object reference not set to an instance of an object.) YES i have installed CoreConInstall and vs_sdeprolightup-enu
2)Phone 7 Deployer didn't work as well giving me an error "Error Deploying to the device. It is not properly configured."
It's as if my phone is not unlocked which i am 100% sure because i could deploy XAP before i reformatted my computer
Thanks in advance for the help
Not sure why you'd deploy the dev tool CTP, or at least why you'd say it's related to WP7. It's probably not your problem, but...
Out of curiosity, what version of Windows are you running?
Win 7 64bit and its updated.
Why isn't CTP related? I thought you needed Windows Developer Tools for deployment of XAP
Nope. WP7 SDK and Zune is all you need for XAP deployment.
A full copy of Visual Studio can ease development but isn't needed. A third-party xap deployer isn't needed at all, though the official one is kind of feature-bare. The Windows dev tools (as opposed to the Windows Phone dev tools) aren't even relevant. Certainly not the CTP ones (I assume you mean the ones for the Win8 tech preview?) as those weren't even available until a few months ago. Visual Studio installs the standard Windows SDK anyhow.
I assume you're able to connect the phone to Zune and sync files, etc?

[Q] How to install Windows Phone SDK 8 on Windows 7?

I have VS2012 on Windows 7, and I don't like Windows 8 because of all the weird features.
Windows Phone SDK 7.1 installs on Win7 but doesn't support VS2012.
Windows Phone SDK 8 supports VS2012 but only installs on Win8.
Is there any workaround for this? Can I somehow make VS2012 support WP SDK 7.1 or install WP SDK 8.0 on Win 7?
*bump
Screw it I installed VS2010...
The Windows Phone SDK provides a stand-alone Visual Studio Express 2012 edition for Windows Phone or works as an add-in to Visual Studio 2012 Professional, Premium or Ultimate editions.

Can't put back OS on Dell PDA

I recently updated my Dell X51V PDA to Windows Mobile 6.1 and I wanted to go back to Windows Mobile 5.0 but the problem is that all my computers are not Win 7 and not XP so I can use the Dell rollback software to overwrite the 6.1 and load 5.0. I know when I use Win XP it works fine and it does complete the installation but when I use Win 7 it gives an error message on the computer after the PDA says handshaking with pc. Is there a way I can put WM 5.0 back to my OS and use the A12 rom?
Well I guess I had to use my moms computer that had Win XP and I did install the original OS for the PDA. Maybe the only way to do it was to use an XP system.
