Hey, I've been working on rooting my continuum with the new froyo leak. Everything seems to be working just fine and then when I try to run cwm recovery it always has the following message: E:failed to open/sdcard/update.zip (No such file or directory) E: signature verification failed Installation aborted.
I've tried starting over, renaming the zip file, deleting it from the sd card and putting it back on again, nothing seems to work and I continue getting the same message. PLEASE HELP!

Use "toggle signature verification" in CWM ?
Forever living in my Galaxy Ace using XDA App
I don't have CWM. That is what I'm trying to reboot into when the file keeps saying it doesn't exist.
I followed all of the directions exactly, but perhaps there is something that I should have done or had on my phone before attempting?

Here's what I've done. I downgraded my telus htc hero using the goldcard method, then proceeded with rooting in one click. I flashed
VillainROM 5.2 and switched my sdcard/goldcard to a regular 8gb sdcad. life was great but last night I decided to flash the VanillaEclair 1.0 JIT. wiped the flash update from sdcard and it gave me the error e: can't open /sdcard/update.zip (bad) ???
What am I doing wrong?
I've been reading everything I can find concerning this and I still don't get it. I'm way to new to android to understand more than simply following instruction on how to root and load a custom mod. This right here is way over my head!
Please Help out the noob!

i went through this a little when i made my first theme for a phone. mine was because a directory had been altered but in your case it might just be a bad download. you might try downloading it and trying again, hope this helps

[Q]how to fix E:Can't open /sdcard/*********.zip (bad)
When trying to flash any rom in the recovery it said
Install from SD card...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:Can't open /sdcard/*********.zip
(bad)
same problem,,pls could anybody have an idea how can it be fix??pls...thanks,,,cant flash any rom from sd card,,
it could either be from the download.
or if you created it yourself, its probably because its not signed. Search XDA (or google) for Android Signer.

The file is bad. try redownloading it and eg md5sum.
Hi,
i have been trying to install voodo lagfix on my galaxy s, it is running froyo. I have followed the instructions on the voodoo website to install stable 5.0 for froyo, i don't understand what odin is, (and the website says this is only for people who know what they're doing) so i downloaded the second of the 2 available for froyo. I then changed the name of the zip folder to update, and put this inside a folder called sd card on the root of the internal sd. When i do the 3 button reset i load the file but i get an error saying ths:
E:failed to open /mnt/internal_sd/update.zip No such file or directory E:signature verification failed Installation aborted voodoo
Any help would be appreciated, and sorry if this questions been here before.
Cheers.
odin is a tool used to flash the phone with - you use it with the phone in Download Mode (turn on the phone while holding volume down + home key) and you follow the instructions that come with the custom roms/kernel patches/etc to load the correct files with it
you put update.zip in the root of the internal sd card, not in the 'sd card' folder (which is the external sd card)
Thanks for the reply,
I have just tried putting the update.zip file in the root of the internal sd card but still get an error when doing the reboot.
I have just read elsewhere that it is impossible to install the lagfix on froyo without rooting it, (could someone confirm this?) It does say on the voodoo website that you don't need to flash, although this might only apply to earlier versions.
Thanks again.

Update:
Just read that it can't be done the update.zip method on froyo because of something to do with 3e, so just did it with odin in the end, was a simple painless process.
One more question though, I ran a quadrant test and got about 1400. Does this seem about right?
Cheers.

Hi there, just got a new galaxy s running FROYO. read your threads but still could not exactly get it. I have rooted my mobile with Z4root and now want to install voodoo lagfix. I have downloaded voodoo from its site the whole package and copied it in my mobile in SD folder but still can not get the voodoo installed after re booting, getting the same message E:failed to open /mnt/internal_sd/update.zip No such file or
directory E:signature verification failed Installation aborted voodoo
First can you explain how to copy the voodoo package in the ROOT OF SD?
Secondly as u wrote, ODIN is the right way. can u please guide me step by step on how to install voodoo by this method.
I would really appreciate your detailed response.
Thanks & Regards.
please i would really like to know what this voodoo does............... will it change ur stock rom or just speeds up the system.................whats the importance???????
I need some help on installing a custom recovery image to get rid of the stock one i have, but everytime try to re install the packages it just ends up saying
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted

I am having the same problem. It was not clear on the guide I read to just replace the recovery file and now when I try to flash the update file it comes up with the
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation Aborted
I want to try these files you suggest and see if it works. If it doesn't what should I do.
I hate being the stupid noob.

Now I am running Darky Rom 10.2.2 with Crysis Sensation theme and the funny thing is I am able to i am able to flash the10.2.2 zip file and the Sensation theme but nothing else..
I even was able to flash MIUI which I was using for a few days before I eventually got this same error when i went to reflash it
Anyone here have a solution to this problem because I am starting to give up
Any help would be much appreciated
Disable signature verification, and see if that works. Most likely a problem with your ROM, SD Card, or some magical obstruction making the phone not read the SD Card properly.

I disabled signature verification but still did not work...I can say it is probably a problem with my rom or sd card yet its odd that I can flash Darky Rom to 10.2.2, the key layout and a theme but nothing else...I am so confused lol
I flashed CWM recovery via Rom Manager which I read that I shouldn't of done...But I heard that I can flash back to stock then reroot my device...Any thruth to this? I just want to flash Cyanogen mod to my device, is that too much to ask lol
It's not a zip within a zip is it?

No it isn't
I know it has something to do with flashing CWM via Rom Manager because I wasn't able to flash any roms after I did that
Whenever I try to install the clockworkmod on my phone manually it says: "E: Signature Verification Failed"
I have A Samsung Galaxy Exhibit t599n.
Please reply back if you have a solution.
You can toggle this when you go into 'install zip from SD card'. If you select 'toggle signature verification' it will display 'enabled' and then select again and it will be 'disabled'. That should work. If it doesn't, don't flash that ROM, try downloading it again, check MD5 sums, check that it is a ROM for your phone, and if all are the same, have another go.

Don't you need cwm to do that?

Oh sorry! I mis read! Only have a little screen you see. Try re flashing it? Or another method? That is bizzare. Sounds like the one you are trying to flash wasn't signed when it was compiled. So yeah, try another version of CWM
