[Q] Cannot remove phone numbers from phone app with custom rom - HTC Desire S

I have a rooted Desire S running the VoidU S 1.1a rom (which is great by the way) but I have upgraded to a Sensation and I am giving the Desire S to my dad.
I want to get rid of all of my phone numbers that are in the standard phone app (ie when you press the phone button and the list pops up behind the dialler) but I can't seem to do it.
I started with deleting everything from the contacts app, and then cleared the cache via Application Management, then cleared the cache in CWM, still no luck. Then I did a full wipe and re-installed the rom but the numbers are still there. I have read elsewhere on this forum that you need to have the stock recovery in order to do a full factory reset, is that true?
Any ideas? How risky is it to restore the factory recovery? My dad really does not want to go through all of my phone numbers in order to make a call!!

go to
settings-->application-->manage applications-->all-->contacts storage-->clear data
also remove your gmail account to not re-sync..

I don't believe that its possible to remove your google account as this asks you to perform a full factory re-set.

if he untick contacts sync from google account and clear contacts storage?

Thanks guys, in the end I cleared the data in App Mgmt from every app to do with contacts, people, phone etc and that worked. Clearing just one app wasn't enough, I had to do all of them....
Funny thing though, now I have the numbers that I do want in both the dialler app and the people app, when a new text message comes in from someone that is in the contacts/dialler already, it only shows the number and not the name...hmmm...

[Q] does android 2.2 cache your account type? app vs regular account

Been trying to get the android app chrome to phone to work on my phone. it says the it does not support google apps accounts, unless they have been transitioned over to the new system. My account has been transitioned. But chrome to phone still says it's an app account.
I tried removing chrome to phone and reinstalling it - no effect.
As i test i decided to do a full factory wipe and then add my account back to the phone and install chrome to phone, and it worked! So i'm wondering if when i added my account previously (before it was transitioned) if something on the phone is still flagging it as an app account? i tried to remove the account so i could add it back in, but it wont let me saying certain apps use the account (would be nice if it said which apps) and instead says i need to a factory wipe.
I really don't wont to do a full wipe of the phone just to install this one app.
Anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this without a full wipe?

Too many pattern attempts

My son has a Desire S which he has locked now after doing too many pattern attempts but we do not have the gmail account password (was setup purely for this phone and not used it since created) I have done a gmail recovery form but not holding my breath as account was never used so cant provide the "who emails you frequently" info etc...
Found a post on G1 forum about turning pattern lock off using ADB but he has turned off USB debugging
I know I can wipe the phone but he really dont want phone wiped as obv. will loose all his contacts and as its summer holidays wont be easy to get them back
If I flashed a rom (stock or otherwise) would it automatically wipe data? (normally only use clockwork to flash mine and know it gives option but clockwork not an option as cant get in phone) if it didnt wipe data do stock roms normally have debugging enabled? so I could then disable using ADB
or is there any other way? or will I have to bite bullet and wipe it
can't you boot into recovery using power and volume down, and aren't the contacts in sync with your gmail?
There are some methods on this link you can try
http://einartysen.se/unlock-android-phone-after-too-many-pattern-attempts/
Also how many times did you try?!! Usually it locks for a little while
It is running a stock rom unrooted so no recovery mode
Contacts are synced with gmail but no good as we cant access gmail account
Dont know how many times it was tried but lock seems permanent, has been stuck on that for hours now and even turning off/on dont clear it
oh and I have tried everything in that site already btw
lol this really bites, how old is your son? does he have a zillen and a half contacts? does he have an paid apps associated with gmail? if your answers are; under 10, no, and no. then it might just be easier to scrap and redo... :|
other then that your choices are to either remember the pin or the password to the gmail account
and did calling the phone but pressing the home button really not work? cause i really would like to know that one for future reference.
yeah you're only option now is to do a factory reset.

Did you not give gmail an alternative email in case of situations where you forgot your password? If you did then you can just request your password sent to that.
Once you get the gmail password it's just a case of factory reset, set up gmail account and gmail should have all contacts backed up.
If your son is on facebook, they have probably "stolen" all the contacts already and you can get them back from there.

that's a great idea, get your son to log into his face book and if he's used the face book application from his phone recently then his account will contain all of his contacts and their numbers

Google Sync and Contacts Crash

Hello,
I am using a Samsung Infuse running Gingerbread (2.3.6) and Ethereal's ROM v1.4. I am having a pretty major problem that I cannot seem to fix, so I will go into detail in the hopes that someone will be able to help me.
My phone will go into a complete freeze state if Google attempts to sync my contacts, requiring me to remove the battery for a reboot. I had it turned off for a brief period of time (and auto updates/background app updates are still turned off in the "Accounts and Sync" settings) but it has started to sync after each OS reboot. I can probably use my phone for a few seconds before the sync kicks in and locks my phone.
I believe my contact storage system on my phone is majorly corrupt in the worst kind of way. I come to this conclusion because I am completely unable to create new contacts, even after force closing/stopping all contact running processes. I am pretty stumped as to how/why this happened and what to do to fix it.
Can one of you awesome peeps help me out with this issue? It would be much appreciated.
Go to recovery and wipe cache and dalvic...see if that helps (shouldn't delete any apps or saved data)
If not then wipe everything and re flash your from (will delete all apps and there saved data)
If still doesnt help then go back to stock using heimdal or Odin (will delete all apps and their saves data)

Cache wiping does not work, unfortunately. I tried again as you suggested and it did not work again.
I appreciate your suggestions, but I did know these options. Every problem can be fixed through a reflash, but this is an absolute last resort and I would rather know if there was a solution to the problem itself. It is just one little application causing this mess and I would rather hate to lose all of my data.
Thanks!
Have you tried Settings - Apps - All - Contacts Force stop and then clear data?
That should wipe out any locally stored data and allow for a refresh from any accounts you have (gmail, exchange, etc.)

That did not work either, one of the first things I tried.
I ended up being able to buy myself enough time to sync my calendar, download my contacts to my SIM card, then do a factory reset after backing up my other data. Oh well =\

[Q] contact recovery after restoring

I factory reset my oppo find 7, and lost my backup that I had set up, is there anyway I can get my contacts back? I don't care about the photos and other stuff. Just need the contacts.

If you use the normal 'Phone' app to manage calls and contacts, then Google would have synced the contacts.
Just setup the previous Gmail account (Settings->Accounts) which you had used and you will get it back
I just tried that and nothing worked. I don't know why but I thought I had, had Google sync everything. Also I saw if I root this device and try out android data recovery software it might work. Do you think it will?

No I don't think it'll work. You'll get only some of the contacts back.
Because there's high possibility that the memory blocks used for that contacts db and files would have been overwritten by some current data.
Anyway, you can try. I'd recommend something like this: http://www.androidphonesoft.com/resources/recover-lost-contacts-from-android-phone.html
Yup I was talking about this lol

[FIXED] Taking time to read contacts

So I am on stock 5.1 unrooted and it takes forever to read contacts. When I go to dialer it takes probably 40-50 seconds to open up and show my last few calls or starred contacts. At times when I am getting a call it doesnt show the contact name even if I have the contact saved.
Suggestions?

Have you tried clearing cache for the Dialer app under App info and rebooting? Not sure what else to try on an unrooted phone other than a 3rd party dialer app.
Yeah I did try those things. Did not work.

Does it only happen in the Dialer app, or also in the Contacts app? These are the only things to try that I can think of:
- Wipe cache for both Dialer and Contacts apps
- [Make sure your contacts are backed up in Google first] Clear data in Contacts App and then force stop, then re-sync contacts with Google
- Boot to stock recovery and wipe system cache partition
- Factory reset phone (obviously would lose data)
Which model X 2014 do you have? Other people may have run into this using the same model.

Tried 1/2/3. No use. I don't want to factory reset yet. That's my last resort. Any other way around.
P.s. for the life of me I don't know how this ended up in the accessories section requesting MOD to shift to q&a

Needed to clear data from contact storage and not contacts. Fixed now.
