Hi everyone,
I'm a new Nexus S owner and got the i9023 Super Clear LCD version running 2.3.3. Naturally, I am disappointed that the colors are very washed out compared to my Nexus One also running 2.3.3. They are both some form of LCD technology so why do the colors on my NS look so bad compared to my NO?
I have read that the Voodoo Colors will only work on the i9020 (amoled), so is there another way for me to make the colors look more vibrant like my NO? (or like 2.3.2....but I didn't have a NS back then so I'm not sure what that is supposed to look like)
And please state if the mod requires rooting. My phone is new and not rooted so far.
Thanks in advance.
Wait Washed out colours on i9023?? Mine is on 2.3.3 and my colours are fine :O

Yes, the colors are very washed out when I compare it side by side with my Nexus One on 2.3.3

I can confirm that, colors look extremely muted in comparison to any other LCD. Still, it's better than the oversaturated fireworks of current-gen AMOLEDs.
Have you tried flashing Voodoo (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876132)? It's supposed to fix the washed out colors problem on 2.3.3, then again, maybe the color fix is for i9020s only.
Well I read in the thread that the voodoo colors won't work on a i9023, so I haven't tried it...any other suggestions?

I don't have any problems with my phones colors. I think they look good and natural. And white looks actually white, than in superAMOLED screens. With Galaxy S I had the worst kind of color temperature. So I really love these natural colors of sclcd.
Washed out colors?
The colors of my display are anything but washed out. They are realistic and easy to the eye without being dull or washed out.
No problem with colors here too. Only natural colors.
Took some time to get used to the colours. In fact they also looked like "washed out" to me also - compared to my LG E720 Display.
You will get used to it because the colours are really more natural.
Use a good screen protector! For example the Vikuiti DQC160! A bad one will really wash it out.
how do you think the screen is on the sensation as i have a desire and my friend has a incredible s and they are both very bright and colourful , i have not seen a sensation personally and the shops around by me have not got one on display to look at. how does it compare to them in brightness and colour because the pictures and videos i have seen it looks a bit washed out. thanks
screen
please can someone tell me what the quality of the screen is like or show a side by side comparison..
Hello There,
I just got some photos of my HTC Desire and my HTC Sensation side by side. Both phones are on stock Theme and full brightness so you can compare them.

Since I dont have more than 8 posts I cannot post it as a link so
screen
thank you for that, looks really good apart from viewing angles but normal straight on it looks really vibrant..
I guess it is the best photo my blade can get but I think you can get some good view of the screens
screen
how do you find it? normal usage looking straight on, does it look as vibrant and bright as the desire is on auto brightness? thanks again
I just find desire's amoled colors a bit more live than sensation, nothing more. Sensations resolution seems to give alot more sharp text though
Hi everyone,
It's my first time using a Nexus device.
I just switched from Samsung Galaxy S2.
With the samsung screen, the black is a real black whereas in the Nexus the black shows the backlight of the LCD (or however it is called now) screen so there's this white glow coming out when it supposed to be pure black screen.
I'm not referring to when the phone is off, I'm referring to when it suppose to display pure black background like when using the Daydream clock feature.
I'm not complaining, I'm just trying to understand if this is how it supposed to be
Thanks

It's normal. Use this for awhile and then go back to the s2, I have one too. You'll see how much better this screen is.
I agree that sharpness and colours are amazing on the Nexus but it's not the black colour / contrast I got used to from the S2.
I came from an S3 and I love the screen quality. I can actually see my phone in daylight.

samsung uses samoled screens, the blacks are blacker and the colors are more vivid. but, samoled screens dont show the real colors, they are much more overly saturated. oh, and black.. samoled dont light up pixels for black, thats why it seems blacker.

I could see as well with the S2
Anyway, as I was saying, I'm not complaining or anything... I just didn't know if the black I was expecting to see on the Nexus is about the same as in the S2...
Unfortunately, I must admit that the S2 presented a much deeper black and the Nexus 5 displays white glow rather than black.
IPS != AMOLED
S2 -> AMOLED. That's almost pure blacks and too saturated colours.
N5 -> IPS. In the N5's case, pretty accurate colours, but with background light, cause the tecnology is like that. You're not gonna get black blacks with IPS. The panel is quite a lot better in every other aspect though.
thanks @Molitro
I agree that besides the blacks, this screen is amazing
As others have hinted, only Oled screens can turn their pixels off complely (0nits) and that's why they can do cool things such as active notifications on the Moto X. When looked on head on the black levels of the Nexus 5 IPS screen are quite good compared to other non Oleds. Infact it out right destroys my desktop and laptop Tn displays in that regards.

i just got a new moto razr hd
the device is brand new but the display looks all yellowish
my friend also has the same phone but when kept aside it shows brighter whites whereas mine shows yellowish tint
any info u guys know why this is there ?
Screen Yellow
My phone is also well..
i have checked forums and its not a defect its because the displays are made from different manufacturers
some intentionally make warmer displays for better skin tones look
but anyone knows any app to change the hue or colors of the display
I made a screen white balance adjuster for android screens (with a few other adjustments, e.g. tint and brightness)...
Some phones are lucky enough to already have these, like the Xperia seriese, but they you have my Moto X that has a yellow tint for some reason!
If you want to give it a go, it's here.

Ha, yes, well, this app corrects it!
I have updated it to adjust the contrast as well.
I also have a Moto X and looking for a way to get rid of the yellowish tint. I tried the app but I can't find a way to make the colors colder or change the white balance. All I can do is set a tint/filter and change the strength of it. Changing color modes between tind and white balance seems to do nothing. (Version 4.0)
Is it even possible to change the yellow tint with the free version? I will not buy the paid version unless I am sure that it can do more and it's what I really need.
Also, what are the downsides and the effect on pixel longevity, battery and performance? I tried chainfire's cf.lumen (which requires root) and it has the nasty habit of applying its filters twice when switching between portrait and landscape. I guess your app does also just overlay a transparent, tinted image over the whole screen?
I really don't want to get used to a new calibration and then find out that I have to switch back to the old one because of a drawback.
my N6 has yellow tint too...but only on the bottom part...how can i adjust only the bottom part ?is there any possible way to do it ?if i adjust my whole screen with your app there will be a difference between top and bottom ..i have this stupid yellow tint on white and grey background..on grey it is soooooooooooo bad
